  • In this video I go over the basics of making a Grey Knights battle roster in Warhammer 40,000 9th edition. My lists lean heavily on narrative, but are still powerful.

    A great breakdown. While I want to make clear I think Terminators will still be the slightly better option for Troops in 9th Edition (Especially with Obsec), I do think the 2W Strike Squads will also be a very viable option in army lists as well since they are essentially almost half the point cost of a Terminator Squads and lighter and quicker on their feet; same with Interceptors. We'll have more confirmation once the new Codex releases, which can't arrive soon enough.

    This was actually really helpful and entertaining to watch, thank you. I haven’t fully committed myself to the table part of the hobby, more into painting the models at the moment and currently doing some Grey Knight conversions. Using the Allarus Custodes terminators as my base for these GKs and since those are some pretty pricy bois, I kinda was to make good use of the three of them I have so far. I wanted to ask what do you recommend I make these three models as just in case I get into the actual game I would already have three good-looking GK models ready to go. Since they will look a little different I wanted to make these three models into HQs. One can definitely be my Grand Master, but the other two? Maybe a Chap? Librarian? Techie? Wacha think?

    • @onelastblade3913
      @onelastblade3913  3 года назад +1

      You couldn't go wrong making those Allarus Terminators into Paladins! Paladins are our Elite infantry, being beefier and killier than our Troops Terminators. In the lore, they are the greatest warriors in our chapter, excelling in combat and dedicated to protecting the Grand Masters. They also come in a minimum unit of three! Using Allarus Terminators would definitely make them look the part.

    • @rwyot767
      @rwyot767 3 года назад

      @@onelastblade3913 Exactly! I brushed up on the lore and loved every word of it. I had the same idea, making them into Paladins but initially thinking Paladin-squads are in 5s 😳 didn’t think they were a minimum of 3! So that’s good. And i have a 3-man Eradicators whom I see as a possible Purifier Squad???
      P.S For fluff reasons, do you recommend equipping these Paladins with nemesis force swords instead of Halberds/Hammers/ Axes? Cause they’re technically just a bunch of Champions, the one class that drops everything else just to master the sword right?
      Same goes for the Purifiers, I know about their Psy-fire-cannon thing but they also equip other weapons right? Like Crowe? (Even if he might be a bad example just cause he is stuck with a demonic sword and probably doesn’t have much of any other choice for a weapon).

  • @ericwolf9664
    @ericwolf9664 3 года назад +2

    The lack of terminator squad options in fast attack and heavy support options I always find awkward. That said purifiers with a 3 up invulnerability save with the strat could be interesting whenever they get the 2w update. Also greetings from Diemos the delivery servitor will be arriving shortly.

    • @onelastblade3913
      @onelastblade3913  3 года назад

      Fast Attack Terminators would be really interesting! What do you think they would look like? Terminators with Interceptor packs?

    • @ericwolf9664
      @ericwolf9664 3 года назад +1

      @@onelastblade3913 that would be likeliest way gw would implement it. Though most most people shoot down jet packs even though we have hover tanks and fly boys with miniguns in the primaris range. What I would really like them to be would probably ending up costing more points wise than paladins unless there were almost strictly assault which would be very unfluffy of GK.

    It's really cool seeing list building with narrative consideration! I struggle with page 13 of the codex a lot, with it naming all the "canon" grandmasters and brother-captains of all 8 brotherhoods, so seeing you go all out with Simandus gives me confidence in crafting my own brotherhood lore!
    Also! How do you feel about Assassins? Especially with the Agent of the Imperium rule letting an Inquisitor or Assassin per detachment not take up a slot, and not break army rules, I think they can really add something to lists. I also always plan around two detachments since I want at least 4 HQ slots in any given list for Dominus power redundancy, so getting to take both really gives me the feeling of being an army that's part of the larger Inquisition.

    • @onelastblade3913
      @onelastblade3913  3 года назад +1

      I know what you mean about page 13. I tell myself that that chart is simply a snapshot in time. Perhaps my games and my lore take place a century or two before what's noted in the codex, or maybe after! Warhammer lore is so fluid and encompassing that anything is possible.
      Sometimes I bring a Vindicare Assassin in my games! She consistently disappoints me, however. I think the model is good, but she always misses her first shot. It might be that I only face fairly elite armies--I bet against Guard or Genestealers she would tear through HQs.

      I bring along my Inquisitor quite often, and the 7th is known for long standing cooperation with the Ordo Malleus. • @onelastblade3913
      @onelastblade3913  3 года назад +4

      He was a fun one. He's the typical GK Terminator kit, mostly, but I threw on the Custodes cape and sword and an icon from the Space Marines Tac Squad box. The trickiest part was finding a GK left arm that didn't have a storm bolter attached -- obviously his storm bolter is in the sentinel blade, right? Fortunately, the Nemesis Dreadknight has the perfect arm. I just had to trim the controller out of his hand.
      Rules-wise, I usually run the sentinel blade as the Blade of the Forsworn from Ritual of the Damned. For my narrative, it is Grand Master Simandus' personal weapon, the Blade of Doom Mons.

    22:30 Question: the wording in the codex for the Ancients aura is:
    "...models from friendly Grey Knights infantry units that are within 6" of any sacred banner when they fight can make 1 additional attack that phase."
    Wouldn`t that mean that only the models that are within 6" are getting the extra attack, not the entire unit? That can be quite difficult to make work i feel like. Or is there an FAQ`d version of this rule that i don`t know?

    • @onelastblade3913
      @onelastblade3913  3 года назад +1

      Very good question! So the key thing to parse from the Ancient's ability is that it is saying models from friendly Grey Knights *units* that are within 6" of any sacred banner get the bonus. So if a unit is within 6", then any models in that unit get an extra attack. Because it just says "within" and not "wholly within," only one model has to be within the range of the Ancient's aura for the whole unit to benefit. Make sense?

      You can just paint them up with swords or halberds, and keep them as a cheap back objective holder. They arent totally useless
