@@slobiden.2593 there could be many reasons why. Say you have a dreadknight with psilencer and psycannon in melee with a unit that you can take out in melee handily but why forgo all the extra shots with your dreadknight gunboat? Fall back shoot bunches of stuff charge back in AND go first and kill possibly 2 squads rather than one OR say your melee just wont be enough to what your fighting and they need to be shot as well. Happy Birthday for the One Last Blade channel! When I discovered this channel last year it immediately gave me that final push towards starting a Grey Knights army and now I'm nearing 2000pts with my - of course mainly terminator! - collection 😁 Thanks for the quality videos and your passion for the hobby, and as always: For the Emperor!
purifying ritual is one of the best secondaries in the game, I would take it against all non-psyker armies and probably even against some psyker armies.

Even though I don't play grey knights I find this kind of video really helpful. I'm still a noob at the game and my Blood Angels really yearn for a win. Following some of your tips is really eye opening, like having a plan before you build the list rather than after is something that's often missed.
Oh snap! I love Mox Boarding House! I had a Blood Angels Civil War Battle there! I honestly had no idea so much 40k community was in Seattle before I went there tbh.
My group does 3000 pt games and the last time I played, I had a full 1500 pt Deathwing army tagged with a 1500 pt Craftworld army up against a 3000 pt Necron army and it taught me a lot, that Terminators are resilient little buggers and it’s better to deep strike with units that can shoot lest I get shot off the board before my units can charge and start punching or I fail the charge roll and don’t manage any punches. Which is why my 3000 pt Grey Knigh army consists of (merely theory as I have yet to get any Grey Knights because there’s no Combat Patrol yet): Brotherhood - Silver Blades Tide of Celerity A Single Battalion Detachment, led by a Dreadknight Grandmaster (Warlord), Brother Captain and Brotherhood Librarian for more psychic shenanigans and beatstick energy with Martial Perfection and First to the Fray Troops - 4x 10 man Strike Squads with Nemesis Force Halberds and Storm Bolters for board control, damage output and general versatility 2x 5 man Brotherhood Terminator squads with Nemesis Force Swords/Falchions and an Incinerator each for Hammerhand and support against hordes. Elites - Brotherhood Apothecary to support the deepstriking Termies Fast Attack - 3x 5 man Interceptor Squads with Nemesis Daemonhammers and Storm Bolters for some nice AP in combat and speed Heavy Support - 2 Nemesis Dreadknights, once with a Heavy Incinerator, another with a Gatling Psilencer and both with a heavy Psycannon and Nemesis Greatsword again for general versatility My goals with this Onslaught of Grey Knights is to have full offensive power, board control, mobility and versatility. It should be able to take on hordes AND high toughness vehicles/characters. Thus, my three preferred secondaries in a Take and Hold game: Engage on All Fronts allows me to leverage Teleport Strike along with Teleport Assault for some easy Victory points and Deploy Scramblers. Alternatively, I might want to go for Psychic Ritual if my opponents has no way to shut down psychic spells.
@@onelastblade3913 according to the manual, they take 3-4 hours, OBVIOUSLY not taking into account the set up time. When I played the Deathwing-Craftworld alliance against the Necrons, that took about an hour and a half to set up, with terrain, models and objective markers out the wazoo. By the time shit was getting real, it was already 6pm aka late hours for the gaming venue we were in and we only managed to squeeze in 3 turns, where the Deathwing/Craftworld alliance scored 37 victory points against the Necrons’ 32, not counting 10 for fully painted armies since the Necron player had half his army just barely undercoated and the rest were grey plastic. I was almost certain my small count of Terminator models, despite the 5+ Crux Terminatus invuln, were going to get shredded by the Necron’s spiny looking gun platform and those Doom Hunter looking mofos.
I just recently jumped on the Grey Knights train, and I’ve gotta say, I’ve used @OneLastBlade ‘s videos for everything, from painting my “in-progress” GK army, to building a GK list, to watching gameplay so I can start learning their abilities, upsides, disadvantages, etc. All this to say, your videos are awesome, fun to watch, and very informative! I'd like to see a video where you talk through your learning process with your grandmaster and other HQ's with the new codex. How you first built them and how that's evolved through the games you've played. Would be really insightful and helpful on how to evaluate different abilities or relics.
This was interesting. I find direction and focus to be the biggest factors in building a list. Constantly ask yourself why you're making a choice and frame it again the direction you want to go. It really helps minimizing those impulsive choices like "Oh! That would be fun" or "If I did this I could do that". If playing Magic taught me anything it is to keep focus on the idea. The idea paves the way for the list and game plan.
Yaaay I've been looking forward to a grey knights list vid. I got a box of paladins/ terminators (I went with the paladins, I'm so sorry) and the hexfire box and I've been slowly trying to figure out my full list, this was a great help. Keep up the good vids!!
Whilst Paladins do get a 2+ weapon skill, access to 2 Special Weapons per squad and 3 Psychic powers, they don’t get access to the Brotherhood powers, strats and warlord traits, which kick ass and provide good flavour for your Grey Knights, so unless you want to build a Purifier/Paladin list, this is really something to consider.

Congrats on one year! Really like your videos and keeps me thinking about what I should bring in my Grey knights army. I'm also happy you advocate playing what you think is cool and fluffy over "meta" Currently love a fluffy "Honoured Knights" list with 10 paladins, 10 purifiers, 2 ven dreads, kaldor and castellan crowe.
Congratulations on 1 full year. Hope many more to come. I need to get back into playing. Finding time this time of year has always been a challenge. Love the gamestore/bar concept.
Congrats on getting to your 1st year. Before the new codex dropped your channel was pretty much the only one using GK's in 9th regularly so that was an instant sub from me. I like your approach on list making. I think I use battlescribe to heavily and dont really absorb the codex as I'm barely looking at it. So will definitely be trying your method. Sometimes its good to go back to basics (ie pen and paper!)
Congratulations on the Anniversary! Yeah, that Grey Knight book... Honestly, I kinda want to procrastinate getting into it because I simultaneously have to understand the Thousand Sons book and both of them have a lot going on.
Well done and happy channel birthday. I would love to learn to paint from you sometime. I live on the east side of Washington. I have family over there and have gotten back into hobby after a few challenges.
Really making me want to buy some Terminators now. I started in 8th and built what I have of Grey Knights back before I really understood the rules so I followed online recommendations. So out of the 15 models I assembled only two have force swords.
I too didn't like how stalky our strike team really looked so for the longest time, I had strike team on my shelf collecting dust, then I got the indomitus box, then that was collecting dust. So I decided to convert them to truescale. I kept the from the abdoman down to give them hight, and you know what! They are better, they are slightly shorter than the primaris but I am fine with that.
Battle scribe doesn’t let you change the melee weapon of Strike Squad Justicars despite being allowed! It’s definitely a weird UI as a very new, but experienced gamer, player
I was going to choose orks for my first army comp. But after seeing how theyre being played in this edition, i really dont see them being fun, you know the fact that everything just ends up dying in the 2nd-4th round if you survive the 3rd On the other hand i played a couple rounds for my friends space-marines, and i really liked using the terminator squad he had
for thousand sons i have a Sorceror with Atherstride so he moves 9 as if he has fly. And then he can perform a psychic action and still cast. And he has a spell to move himself OR a spell to limit the shooting range of any enemy unit. Also everyone in the army (that isnt ahriman) can teleport themselves or someone else. I really like Psy Interogation and all the warpcraft secondaries
My favorite combo is to take a min squad of Paladins or Terminators (prefer Paladins due to 2+ WS), give them all hammers, and place into the teleportarium. At the end of my movement bottom of 1 or top of 2 bring them in. Give them Haloed in Soulfire, Armored Resilience psychic power, and True Silver Armor. Granted this costs a fair amount of CP but you get a squad of Paladins 9" away that are -1 to hit in shooting and melee, 1+ armor save 5+ invuln, and can only be wounded on 4+. Very hard to kill and very potent even if only 2 make it into melee via charge.
Fluffy and fun is the way to go. I've never been a power player, going for the best lists.. i paint and (one day) play with the things i think look cool. Like babycarriers, terminators, interceptors! And even though they usually very bad.. i just got to get a land raider or two in the future. Keep up the good work
Lol, I came here to see what I needed to buy to make a good Grey Knights list. I have no Grey Nights models. It was still a very informative video to watch though.
I know you said not to build a list based on a combo but here’s a silly paladin thing to make them indestructible objective squatters. 5 paladins, one with stave (for emergency use of apocs sanctuary doesn’t go off) rest with swords. Apoc has two builds, but both put unyielding anvil on them. If your running them in something other than preservers you then want to put a noble death on them for even more obsec. (Though there are tons of gifts you can cram on them if you don’t want that) but on preservers that 3inch aura increase is NOICE. The paladins will cast armored resilience on themselves and the apoc with do sanctuary, though paladins can flex into hammerhand or purifying flame (try out which one you like the starting on, but dont forgot you can swap them for a CP) with tide of shadows that’s a 2+++ with a 4+ invul and a 6up feel no pain. Oh and true silver armor too :), feel free to through some special weapons on top!
For relics it’s sort of tough. But something that makes the apothecary tankier (Kantu vambrance) is probably not bad. You can put Steve of supremacy on the paragon if you want because I think making perils way more likely is fun as heck!
Your channel is kind of what cemented the idea of picking grey knights as my first army. Congrats on the sponsorship! Also for deathwatch legs, why not just see if you can buy a bundle of the legs from a bits shop or ebay?
I know I’m late; but if you’re like me, that first point is actually moot. I don’t build/paint models UNTIL I Have a list going. That way I’m not painting/building something I have NO use for. I’m an OK builder bit an awful painter, so I always try and focus my efforts into a final product. Like my MTG lists, I find what I need before I do anything else.
Love the vids dude, I really like some of the models you have especially the kitbashed redemptor/dreadknight. I was curious what bits you used for the Apothecary? Safe travels!
new GK player here! did my first few 2k point games, had some issues. Trying to force a paladin main list but that's not going great. I figure the point difference between the terminators and the paladins makes the paladins worth it with the extra attacks and better WS.
When the pandemic completely subsides, I think I will make a trip up north to Mox. My FLGS is Terracrux in Tacoma. I agree with the painted thing. I can't say I have always played with everything completely painted, but I will only field units that are at least partly painting with first coat or more of paint. And when I do have enough points of completely painted stuff, I field that instead of potentially better units. With a few years of pretty much only the painting part of the hobby, I can easily field a completely painted my new unit refreshed Black Legion, Genestealer Cult and Primaris army. Though, none of those collections are completely painted (like 85% done). Hopefully by the end of the year, I'll get at least one faction collection completely done. I almost agree with Grey Terminators being the coolest unit in 40k. It is definitely a Terminator unit, but I think you'll find Chaos Terminators slightly cooler than the Grey Knight version. I finally reached owning 30 of them, and I plan to use all of them next time Abbadon (who is a very rare sight in my army lists) is in my army.
Just played a birthday list today! It was supposed to be fuffy and fun, but holy shit I may have just discovered a meta! **Battallion** 1 Sniper Assassin 1 Grand Master Dreadknight 1 Castellen Crowe 1 Lord Kaldor Dreigo ** 3 5-man terminators ** 1 nemesis dreadknight **outrider** 1 Grand Master Dreadknight 3 5 man interceptors!
@@onelastblade3913 at the bottom at round 3 I had over 53 points, my apponant had 22. He was playing imp guard, and so he was able to shoot off some dreadknights turn 1, I think at the end I only had 1 bracketed dreadknight left. BUT they created such a heavy wall that my infantry was able to score hella points! Round one I just jumped my interceptors up onto the mid-field, and they were soon followed by my terminators, and they just blessed the mid-field sites scoring me points! (I also had a grand master shoot off a leman russ with just his heavy psycannon haha!) If it wasn't for the fact that we had to stop early, I was relatively confident that I could have scored max points!
Played the Lansing GT last weekend only loss my Grey Knights was to the 1st place winner. Placed pretty high 1st time i have been to a tournament since 5th.
hey man.... first up love the channel and happy birthday I don't get enough time to watch all the batreps but I always take time to listen to your opinions on the army/game/rules...QQ though.. warding staves.. where are you getting the +1 to the invuln from.. it's not in the weapon profile and I know it was there last edition but I don't see it this time round.
Love the video and your thought process is super clean. Have you noticed that the Stormraven Gunship by default comes with a Twin Assault Cannon however it costs 10 points to include whereas the Twin Heavy Plasma Cannon is not default and has no entry in the points listing page?
Thank you for spelling all of this out. Have you ever ran a GK/IK army together? It's really neat and makes your opponents REALLY demonstrate how good they are at threat management
I won a game today vs death knights purely from the secondary for killing demons, but man it was a tough game otherwise besides dread knights everything we have is flat 2 dmg, vs deathguard that means 1 damage. Good game though.
Uuuuh, so... i have this terrible gm in dreadknight meme build the i adore... give him teleporter, gate, the teleport relic, first to the fray and optionally daemon slayer, also take a techmarine with aether conduit, finally run them in the 1st brotherhood... good luck keeping up with this lad. He: deepstrikes, cam gate of infinity out or back into the enemy, teleport when shot, and you can do what i call the, speed repair, 2cp to teleport chute him into your backline next to your techmarine to repair the lad and just gate him right back in... now pair it with marked for death, the 1st specific power and finally, the +1 to damage spell. I know this is expensive and quite the meme... but oh god he is the most teleporty and annoying unit to face. Highly recommend, super fun.
Hey, hi, how did You make your Grand Master's Force Sword? Looks kitbashed I think, wider and shorter than regular ones, but I love it, want to get similar effect
Awesome video! Subbed. I´m starting with 40K, and I love Grey Knights. You can imagine how much I liked this video. I like great and heavy troops like you (come from Age of Sigmar, where my Stormcast army is full of Paladins), so I´m having this problem (grey knights are old and small marine scale), but this is not a problem with Terminators, ¿right?. Very soon I hope GW make new line for this army, (Primaris scale (love this models!!), but for now ¿what do you think I have to do? I bought Voldus! (Yesterday), but it´s the only model I have for now xD Well... Thanks for the awesome video, and sorry for my english!.
Waiting another month or so befor I go for the codex itself in case they start doing some silly nerfs that requires me to fill my precious pretty book with sticky notes
How do you feel about brotherhood champions? They are cheap point wise, can perform your psychic actions and is a great candidate for the relic storm bolter. I like him with the prescient brotherhood warlord trait to cheaply generate cp.
Question related to shooting rules and allocating shots. Here’s my question regarding allocating shots. If a weapon has 5 attacks and 2 damage each and you’re targeting a unit with 6 models. Is the maximum amount of guys you can kill 5?
Also, if you are shooting 1 weapon with 12 attacks, gattling psylencer, all of those attacks must go to the same unit. But a 2nd weapon or model in the unit can shoot a different model.
As someone not really into painting and doesn’t have a lot of money I mostly play Kill Team using the Grey Knights, is there any tip list you have for Kill Team that’s different than the base game
I don't-- I think any hope of that came and went with the new Codex. Which isn't the worst thing in the world. Our Terminators are some of the best kits that GW produces.
I don't. Any chance of that happening came and went with the Codex. Our models are here to stay for a while! And I think that's fine, honestly. In the lore, Grey Knights are about as advanced as Space Marines can get. We're already incorruptible, we already have the best gear in the Imperium. There's no reason for Cawl and Guilliman to expend resources on making us Primaris when we're already the cream of the crop.
@@onelastblade3913 You know what that puts it in a great light, makes me feel alot better about it, plus why would I want primaris when I have 35 terminators alone!
Don't forget, teleporter units have a 1 CP stratagem to fallback, shoot, and charge.
Put it on dreadknights is hilariously good fun. Definitely worth the 10 points
Why would you want to fall back, shoot then also charge?
The first two make sense. The third doesn’t.
@@slobiden.2593 there could be many reasons why. Say you have a dreadknight with psilencer and psycannon in melee with a unit that you can take out in melee handily but why forgo all the extra shots with your dreadknight gunboat? Battle scribe doesn’t let you change the melee weapon of Strike Squad Justicars despite being allowed! It’s definitely a weird UI as a very new, but experienced gamer, player
It's not the best for new folks. An absolutely helpful tool, but not intuitive.
I was going to choose orks for my first army comp. But after seeing how theyre being played in this edition, i really dont see them being fun, you know the fact that everything just ends up dying in the 2nd-4th round if you survive the 3rd
On the other hand i played a couple rounds for my friends space-marines, and i really liked using the terminator squad he had
Terminators are rad as hell.
for thousand sons i have a Sorceror with Atherstride so he moves 9 as if he has fly.
How about making a boarding actions list for Grey Knights?? Now I've found your channel I'm hooked :)
Check out my latest video!
Thanks for watching!
I didn’t know where else to put this but this video felt like a good place.
Unfortunately Paladins can't get the 5+ FNP from Preservers, because Paladins are Honoured Knights! Otherwise this all sounds rad!
@@onelastblade3913 oh right! Well that just makes me feel less bad about running them in non preservers lol :P
Woo Mox!
Your channel is kind of what cemented the idea of picking grey knights as my first army. Congrats on the sponsorship! Also for deathwatch legs, why not just see if you can buy a bundle of the legs from a bits shop or ebay?
I have tried and they are very rare! People seem to seldom leave the legs untouched in their kits.
You know, that's totally fair! So many people get so locked into their listbuilding that they never paint, though.
@@onelastblade3913 yeah I never really have time to paint, so to me it’s important to only paint what I’ll use TBH.
@@denteater3498 Makes a lot of sense!
Love the vids dude, I really like some of the models you have especially the kitbashed redemptor/dreadknight. I was curious what bits you used for the Apothecary? Safe travels!
The Apothecary used a replacement body from Kromlech. "Prime Legionnaires," if I remember correctly.
new GK player here! did my first few 2k point games, had some issues. Trying to force a paladin main list but that's not going great. I figure the point difference between the terminators and the paladins makes the paladins worth it with the extra attacks and better WS.
15:48 when you're Thousand Sons and use 1 CP to deny a spell on a 3d6 XD
>:(
@@onelastblade3913 mwuahahaha
The Chaos Terminators are a cool kit, not gonna lie.
Just played a birthday list today! It was supposed to be fuffy and fun, but holy shit I may have just discovered a meta!
**Battallion**
1 Sniper Assassin
1 Grand Master Dreadknight
1 Castellen Crowe
1 Lord Kaldor Dreigo
**
3 5-man terminators
**
1 nemesis dreadknight
**outrider**
1 Grand Master Dreadknight
3 5 man interceptors!
Tell me about how that list did!
(I also had a grand master shoot off a leman russ with just his heavy psycannon haha!)
If it wasn't for the fact that we had to stop early, I was relatively confident that I could have scored max points!
Grey Knights need some new models! I remember when these came out over a decade ago xD
Check out the stratagem ZONE OF WARDING. It gives a Terminator unit a 4++ invul for the shooting phase.
@@onelastblade3913 aaah it’s a strat now is it… I see… cheers dude 🤙
Love the video and your thought process is super clean. Have you noticed that the Stormraven Gunship by default comes with a Twin Assault Cannon however it costs 10 points to include whereas the Twin Heavy Plasma Cannon is not default and has no entry in the points listing page?
Good find!
Thank you for spelling all of this out.
Have you ever ran a GK/IK army together? It's really neat and makes your opponents REALLY demonstrate how good they are at threat management
I have! I used to do it all the time in early 8th. Might try it again soon, honestly.
The nameplates on the leaders is a super cool idea, did you 3d print those?
I get them from Versatile Terrain! Check them out!
I won a game today vs death knights purely from the secondary for killing demons, but man it was a tough game otherwise besides dread knights everything we have is flat 2 dmg, vs deathguard that means 1 damage. Good game though.
Well done! I'm having trouble figuring out Death Guard. Playing them again in a week or so, though!
I absolutely love the idea of shunting him back to the Techmarine for repairs and then teleporting him away again with Gate. Stealing this!
@@onelastblade3913 steal all ya want, ill be happy if i see even a part of my absolutely shitty strat used in a battle report!
Hey, hi, how did You make your Grand Master's Force Sword? Looks kitbashed I think, wider and shorter than regular ones, but I love it, want to get similar effect
It is a Sentinel Blade from the Custodian Guard kit!
(Yesterday), but it´s the only model I have for now xD
Well... Thanks for the awesome video, and sorry for my english!.
Thanks so much for the support!
What's the story of Simmandis? Kit bash? I feel like I need him in my life while I start a GK army.
Have you ever tryed out a Knight as fire support for your Grey Knights? Its fun!
Especially a Knight Castellan. (:
You know, that's actually super appealing now that Tides aren't as make-or-break as they were in 8th Edition.
The name plates are so cool, I’m a new 40k player and was wondering where to get them from or if they come with the models?
You get them from Versatile Terrain! A wonderful little company. Check them out.
Waiting another month or so befor I go for the codex itself in case they start doing some silly nerfs that requires me to fill my precious pretty book with sticky notes
We've already had our FAQ, so I think the nerf window has closed.
@@onelastblade3913 I guess your right!
Hey, I'm getting into Warhammer especially Grey knights where did you buy all your models. I can only find strike squads and combat patrols.
That's almost all there is! Plus a box of Terminators. All our units can be built from that kit!
Looking at getting back into Warhammer 40k and I like the lore of the grey knights, is the codex still relevant or is there another version?
The Codex I talk about here is the most recent version! It's the only book you need.
How do you feel about brotherhood champions? They are cheap point wise, can perform your psychic actions and is a great candidate for the relic storm bolter. I like him with the prescient brotherhood warlord trait to cheaply generate cp.
I wish they had more of a place, honestly. There's not much they can do that other HQs can't do better. His biggest strength is that he's cheap.
Question related to shooting rules and allocating shots. Here’s my question regarding allocating shots. If a weapon has 5 attacks and 2 damage each and you’re targeting a unit with 6 models. Is the maximum amount of guys you can kill 5?
Yes
Also, if you are shooting 1 weapon with 12 attacks, gattling psylencer, all of those attacks must go to the same unit. But a 2nd weapon or model in the unit can shoot a different model.
yeah so whats a good way for Thousand Sons to deal with Dreadknights...? Asking for a friend...
Honestly, that mortal wound output is what does the trick. Our 5+ FNP against mortals isn't as reliable as most people think.
@@onelastblade3913 yeah it should just drop the total damage by 66%. Still well enough to kill a single dread each phase.
As someone not really into painting and doesn’t have a lot of money I mostly play Kill Team using the Grey Knights, is there any tip list you have for Kill Team that’s different than the base game
I actually haven't played much Kill Team!
You sound like the guy from Pod Save America
My wife loves that show, so I will take that as a compliment!
you are one of the most handsome warhammers players I have ever seen.
Nailed it! Haha, thank you!
Why do I live in Russia? This gaming bar looks awesome!!!
You've thunder claws ? I guess your using them as falchions right ?
Precisely.
Also! I am 150% behind you on your opinion of strike marines! Get outta here with that squat shit!!!
Do you think new GK models are on the way?
I don't-- I think any hope of that came and went with the new Codex. Which isn't the worst thing in the world. Our Terminators are some of the best kits that GW produces.
Kind of sad that it WAS errata'd so fast after it launched though.
Happens. But at least all of our rules are in here! No splatbooks!
Do you think grey knights will get primaris or true scaled, and which one do you think would fit them more lore wise?
Are dual falchions an option still on terminators?
They are! But they're not very good. You get an additional attack, but the tradeoff is one less Strength, AP, and Damage. It's not a great trade.
Hey how did you get the names done on your characters? thasts a cool idea.
maybe a lazy question, but where did you get the nameplates from? STL file? let me know :)
