  • This weekend I'm going to be playing against Imperial Knights. Grey Knights don't typically have a lot of great anti-vehicle options. Join me as I sift through the models in my army and figure out how I'm going to win this game.

    Paladin bomb with four psycannons puts a little Purgation Squad inside your Paladin Squad. Edict Imperator would mean you could use Psychic Onslaught twice -- once in the Psychic Phase when they shoot and then move and then a second time in the Shooting Phase. Combined with the Tide of Shooty Shoot (which I know you don't like :P ) your psycannons are S9 -2AP D2. If you really want to make it stick you could also use Bring Down The Beast (in your shooting phase only) to reroll wounds or Fury of the Proven (in any phase) for +1 to shoot (to negate the penalty from moving). That's a lot of firepower for even a Knight to withstand.
    Bring Down The Beast also applies to your entire army for that entire phase so it's prettttyyyyy good.

      I don't know if you have that many Paladins, though, or if you even have that many psycannons on them even if you did have enough Paladins. If you don't, Bring Down The Beast is super good. Super super good.

    I play grey-knights all the time, and in my experience against knights in 9th you just got to play the game rather than overpower or try and table your opponent. Try and use your terrain as much as you can on the first floor as the knights wont be able to shoot then, and you can abuse astral aim + "bring down the beast" to get some insane re roll of wounds for your whole amy on that one unit all over the play. Theres alot more I want to say XD but I think it's better that you experience and enjoy new combos rather having people tell you want you should and cant do. Keep the bat reps coming.

      I think this comment is pretty spot on. The knights have limited agency due to low model counts. If you play to the mission, rack up those primary points and try to achieve your secondaries while being cagey, I think it's the better play

    Love the analysis and documenting the preparation phase before a game is a fresh idea. Although I don't think you should be list tailoring too much depending on opponents, don't want the video to devolve into "here are the units that are good against X so I'm taking all of them"

    • @onelastblade3913
      @onelastblade3913  3 года назад +1

      Thanks! For sure on your point about list tailoring. I usually don't like to do it, but I feel like Knights are a special case. I notably don't have much if any anti-vehicles tech in my usual lists. If you watch my game against Eldar, I had SUCH a hard time even handling one tank. Knights will probably be a lot more of that!

  • @cyan3293

    Edit: I've been corrected. You can't use bring down the beast in the psychic phase due to a unit needing to be able to trigger it to effect the other units. My apologies.
    A strategy I learned is if you're lucky to go first, you can start with tide of convergence, Advance your paladins to get maximum movement, cast Astral Aim, then edict imperator (spend 1 CP for psychic channeling if you need to) to allow your paladins to shoot through walls and in the psychic phase, then you can use Fury of the Proven for +1 to Hit, use Psybolt Ammunition to shoot 40 shots of S6 -1 AP (-2 AP if you use chaplain's litany invocation of focus) D2 Bolters, and then combo with Bring Down the Beast. Pretty CP costly, but it will definitely pack a punch, if not even one shot a knight.
    Loving your videos! Keep it up!

    • @onelastblade3913
      @onelastblade3913  3 года назад

      I'm definitely considering it! My only hang up there is that the bonus strength from Tide of Convergence can't be utilized (since S5 and S6 both wound Knights on 5s), and I'm always hesitant about investing so much into a strategy that I can't fully take advantage of. Do you think the extra 1 damage per shot will be worth switching out of Tide of Shadows?

    • @cyan3293
      @cyan3293 3 года назад

      @@onelastblade3913 Well here's the thing, with your build and only having 1 unit of 10 paladins, because you're shooting in the psychic phase, you can warp back into shadows after shooting. I would say it can be a risky play if you're not going first, but if you are, i would definitely consider it. Not to mention the only defense a knight would have is a 4++ from Ion shields, but even then you're averaging between 15-25 wound rolls from bring down the beast. If the knight doesnt use ion shields, it's definitely a goner, but even if it does, you can potentially gun it off with another unit, or at least bracket it down heavily.

    nice video, but i`m sorry to disappoint you (i was too). you can't do this 14:18. in 9ed, units in transport are counted with reserves and reinforcements (less than half points/ less than half amount of units) :(
    looking forward to video. good luck at the game

    • @onelastblade3913
      @onelastblade3913  3 года назад +4

      Hey Jozef! If you check out pages 281 and 282 of the Core Rulebook, you'll see that "Declare Reserves and Transports" is all handled as one step, but only units that are put into Strategic Reserves or Reinforcement units are counted towards the limit of units that can "start the battle in locations other than the battlefield." It goes on to specify that units in a Transport that is *itself* in Strategic Reserves or is a Reinforcement unit count towards that limit, but units that start the battle in a Transport that is on the battlefield do not count towards that limit. So in this instance, the Stormraven will be starting on the battlefield, and thus any units inside of the Stormraven don't count towards my Reinforcements limit.
      I always appreciate your comments! It's good to have someone fact checking me. It's how we grow better at this game.

    Why not bringing a Purifiers squad? They are cheap and have Nemesis weapons and D6 short range smite, for half the price of a Terminator. I'd suggest Crowe but the weapon is shit and only works against hordes, but maaaaaaaybe Draigo or Voldus (which is my secret weapon, casting three powers of dominus means fuckton of support: gain CPs, cast armoured resiliance on your shock units and use edict imperator for extra shooting and fall back for another charge).

      And probably some Purgation with Psycannons for long-range distraction!

    • @onelastblade3913
      @onelastblade3913  3 года назад +1

      Honestly, for a couple of reasons. First, that 1d6 smite is only 3", which means they either have to succeed at a charge and survive two rounds of combat to reach a Knight and smite it, or hope that the Knight moves close enough to them on my opponent's turn and just doesn't shoot/charge them. That, plus they are only 1 wound and die to almost anything. That new strat of theirs helps a little, but not enough. When they get bumped up to 2 wounds, though, who knows?
