"When we started our isolation, I found myself out of sorts (like most of us surely did). My energy was very low. I had poured so much of myself into preparing for Coachella, and suddenly... nothing.
Like everyone else, I was stunned and a little shell-shocked. I decided to return to an orchestral commission, but I found that my fucus was also whacked from everything turning upside down.
Weirdly, as I struggled through those first few weeks, an old tune I had written decades ago began running through my mind. I didn't know why, but it didn't go away. Eventually I decided not to resist and laid down tracks, just for the simple pleasaure. It's really almost like a nursery rhyme. Maybe under all that stress that's why it came back to me, and just the act of recording it was really calming for my brain.
I decide finally to share it with everyone. It's silly and simple. Playing everything and singing live to my backing tracks. This things is funky! This is NOT my new single or for a new album that I'm working on. Just a little something that was fun to record and relaxed me, and maybe it will do the same for you? Totally home-made! Daughter @malielfman shot it on her iPhone, and home Jon Mann Krieger (my Danny and Buddy Show collaborator) edited it. Hope you like it!

Sort of sounds like a broken / relic version of the original, fitting given it's a rendition of a song he wrote literally like 40 years ago. I'm in love with this.

I love that he performed this, not only because we all love his music, but because he usually has bad things to say about his own music, especially with Oingo Boingo. Now he's actually happily playing one of his songs and warming up to it. I'm glad he's looking back with more fondness.
Alice Hes never said bad actually about Oingo Boingo, just that a music video he was in that he didn’t have creative control over was “stupid” but it got taken way out of context , also he hates thinking of the past. But its true he sadly avoids talking about the band much recent years so its great to see him feel at home with it like you say!

@@OingoBoingoTapes I was referring to a Q&A he had where an audience member mentioned Oingo Boingo being his favorite band and Danny said something along the lines of "Why?" while cringing. I'm sure he doesn't hate it, but he has a "yikes" reaction like we all do to the past (ex to our childhood/teen photos)

I wanted to write that the music of Oingo Boingo is the best thing that has ever happened in my life, and it is a great luck that I, a 15 - year - old girl from the wilderness of Russia, heard it. Danny's music has helped me through hard times and keeps me moving on. There are no words to describe how I feel when I listen to this incredible music. I just want to say "thank you" to everyone who has something to do with Oingo Boingo. That is all.
Please Danny........Coachella is pushed to October.....It's a sign.......I beg of you, get the boys back together for one more Dia De Los Muertos. Show the youngsters that only know Jack Skellington that you fronted one hell of band also.
It wouldn't matter where it was in the world, if Boingo got back together for one concert I'd find a way to make it there. I was fortunate enough to grow up in So Cal and be a teenager in the '80s. I'll always be grateful for that. Boingo forever!

If Boingo was to ever perform again I will be there. Growing up in Orange County it was the highlight of my year catching you for Dia De Los Muertos at the Irvine Amphitheatre every year!

It took me about ten seconds and way back in the deep recesses of ancient memory it suddenly clicked: Of course. The Dr Demento Show. It's been about 42 years since I've heard it, but that was a song he used to play on his show from KMET 94.7 on Sundays. Oingo Boingo is oddly one of my most inspirational bands. Not only some of the songs still hold up (Like Imposter and Only a Lad) but in a world of heavy metal and rock, Elfman and his men... did this.
Green Tees yeah very true even the rev from avenged sevenfold started a band called pinky smooth that’s very elfman influenced and that one record they made is probably my top 3 of all time.
YES!!! Oingo Boingo's use of percussion and horns, and the bright-yet-dark melodies were exactly what some of us kids were craving--Danny filled a tremendous need for us 'quirkier' kids :)
I always imagined his house to be cluttered with artifacts and dimly lit, but I was glad to see it is a bright place where he’ll sing for his daughter so she can make a video just to make her happy. Hauntingly beautiful voice!

@@Woodsmoke22 Its like they were able to film an actual fever dream; The black and white version is the way to go. I know that Richard wanted to get the film colorized at some point so the color version is what his original intent is, but the black and white version is just so much more surreal than the color version its more separated from reality and alien making the experience that much greater. It almost makes it feel like something out of the early 1900s at times rather than the 70s
Richard Elfman is a great film director! Shrunken Heads is great too. Jenna Elfman is the luckiest woman to be married into that family.

I love Danny's singing voice. I grew up in Southern California in the 80s and Oingo Boingo was one of my favorite bands. This is a real treat here....I wish they could get together just one more time.

Saw Boingo several times at SDSU back in the day
I remember many shows at the sports arena, a New years Eve show, damm near ran 3hours. The Mexico show. Santa Cruz, Great America, Irvine Meadows,91x playing the San Diego shows again right after they were over. Jed the fish and KROQ playing live shows from the Whisky in LA. I've seen many bands live. Boingo was the best live band ever. Even better than the Best Farmers, another kick ass live band.
@@laughteraddict1003 Me too! A friend and I had front row center seats at the aztec bowl. Danny shook my hand. And the best memory of all...after the encore he asked the audience for a song request. I yelled out "Violent Love!" And he friggin' heard me and played it! It was unreal

@@laughteraddict1003 Too cool. I bought those seats just 3 days before the concert at the sdsu ticket office. The ticket lady asked "do you want these front row center seats?". We chuckled, "yeah right". She said, "no really, someone's credit card charge didn't go thru and those 2 seats are available." So we bought them but didn't believe it could be true. At the show, the escort walked us all the way down to front/center. omg...the stars had aligned for us for some reason.
But as you know, no one sits for a concert like that once it gets started, so we were inundated with the crowd within seconds, but held our ground for the whole show. LOL

One of my earliest "New Wave" albums was Oingo Boingo's EP. I got it after hearing a Milwaukee Garage band perform "Ain't This The Life" (1980). I moved to L.A. a year later and saw Danny at a gas station. He was so humble! But, I tell you what. I'll never FORGET that smile and those eyes. AND Their concerts were so much fun with all the insanity going on.
BTW: My favorite O.B. song is "Cinderella Undercover". I still play it on repeat from time to time. :)

Danny Elfman, thank you! Just turned 55 yesterday. I told my daughter that at my funeral my request is to play Dead Man’s Party and Good-Bye Good-Bye... Oingo Boingo forever my favorite band of all time. 10+ concerts at multiple venues around So Cal, back in the day.

I keep coming back to this video whenever I feel stressed or unsure of myself. There's something about Danny's voice that has some kind of crazy healing magic to my system, I wish I could take it with me everywhere I go whenever I feel down.

I have been Boingo since 1980 when I received a BAM California Music Magazine and 78 record from my aunt in California, one of my greatest memories was seeing them at the old Liberty Bell race track in Philadephia PA where the performers where, The Specials, The GO GO's, Oingo Boingo and The Police great show and one other time at the Spectrum in Philadephia PA I even had Boingo put on my New Jersey license plate this performance MADE MY DAY ! Thank you so much I would love to see a reunion tour but I guess that is alot to ask, but there is nothing wrong with being Boingo ! Danny you thank you for all the great music and great times ! only a lad !
Coachella is your best best to see the front man. He randomly did a Boingo tune at a music score show. I'll be posting more videos of Oingo Boingo Former Members (the band without it's founder) with lead guitar player Steve Bartek who does orchestration with composer Danny on film scores... so who knows, maybe someday a segway will present itself... they all live and play in LA

Fantastic!! What a great song! One of my best memories was seeing Danny and Oingo Boingo in Oregon. Front row seats, I touched his shoe, we wondered around after the venue, found the after party, was invited in and got autographs from every band member. I actually got two from Danny, one on a napkin and one on my shirt. One of the best nights of my life. ❤️

Danny I am your biggest fan in the world. I was a huge fan of Tim Burton when I was younger so it was only natural I discovered you. I was a big fan of your soundtracks like the nightmare before Christmas and Edward scissorhands. I later gained a large appreciation for Oingo Boingo who are my favourite band ever. My favourite songs are Private life and Just another day. Thankyou for bringing me so much happiness in life.

This virus has hit us all like a sledgehammer. I don't think anyone has not been affected by this. I've been a fan of Danny's since 1982 when this song first came out. (I was even at Oingo Boingo's infamous 1987 Dallas Longhorn Ballroom concert.) I have to agree this situation has left us feeling like we're running on a treadmill for a near-impossible goal. However, it can't last forever.
Long ago, in a land called California, I was fortunate to see this wunderkind and his friends play on a stage. It was a beautiful night. ✨

Haven't gotten a live Boingo fix since Austin, maybe 1990 or so. Fun show. We started the mosh pit and Danny started laughing mid song. The sorority girls weren't happy to be displaced by the punks.

The first time I ever heard of Danny Elfman or Oingo Boingo was watching them on "Thicke Of The Night" hosted by Allen Thicke. I bought "Only A Lad" the next day and have been a fan forever. Thanks for all the great music over the years. Stuck in North Dakota growing up, I never got to see you live. Hopefully someday!
