4 years ago... I came across your story in Japan, on a television program! I'm in Australia now and I cannot believe I am seeing a followup video! Nothing stands in the way of friendships... not language, not distance.
I love this story, because it couldn't get any more human than this. It has funny moments, sentimental ones, excitement and a sense of wonder. It shows that on a profound level every human being wants to connect to the other, regardless of race or their different cultures. It also shows that anything can happen and life never stops surprising you. It's one of the best stories out there!

For some reason, Chinese like taking pictures with foreigners regardless of who you are (as long as you look different in some way I think). I'm 6ft 2 / brown...We went to multiple places and in rural areas, had mid-aged women taking photos...and couples taking photos next to me and then in Shanghai, this guy stops me and wanted to take a photo - Generally, the older Chinese who probably have not travelled out of China (I'm guessing?) tend to do that. They're very happy people - China is a lot of fun (if you don't get involved in the politics/government stuff and stick to experiences with normal people and not merchants in China)
The last part really got me. That feeling you have after a long trip of being in a new place with so many different experiences and new amazing people you meet on the way. The beautiful memories you made that changed your life forever. You just want it to keep going 😭😭
That's why you should never regret any events in your life, good or bad. You call him lucky, right? But the story starts with his phone being stolen. But Sāi Wēng simply asked, “How could we know it is not a bad thing for me?” One day, his son went out for a ride with the new horse. He was violently thrown from the horse and broke his leg. The neighbors once again expressed their condolences to Sāi Wēng, but Sāi Wēng simply said, “How could we know it is not a good thing for me?” One year later, the Emperor’s army arrived at the village to recruit all able-bodied men to fight in the war. Because of his injury, Sāi Wēng’s son could not go off to war and was spared from certain death.

Yeah I’m Chinese and my partner from a German exchange program told me the exact same thing, after his visit to another school. And I was like “oh well... um... it’s what happens here in China” 😅 there isn’t that many white people in most of China and some people just have the mindset that “foreign people” usually look gorgeous, that’s all.
I think it will go on like this. Some guy stole it from the Restaurant, sold it in the blackmarket. Phone got shipped to China. And his brother probably bought it from some reseller back home.
I always find myself coming back to this because its just a nice wholesome story that gets my spirits up. I wish Buzzfeed went back to this kind of content.
"i feel like britney spears!" later GODAMN MEETS BRITNEY SPEARS holy thanks for basically 800 likes, thats crazy SO GUYS WE DID IT, WE HIT 1K LIKES (pyrocynical joke btw)
The Chinese people use social media in the way it was meant to... use it to bring people together. Western societies use it in its worst incarnation: cutting themselves off, bullying, hacking, etc. This shows the stark contrast in cultures but also the similarities in people and personal experiences. When we share our lives, we find that we are more similar than different- We all enjoy food, love our families and friends, find the same situations funny or heartbreaking; we all share similar struggles as well. If we would all take this story and see that every single life is a series of tiny decisions that brought us to the people we love the most, and to the place we are in life then we could see, at least in part, that the beautiful tapestry that is our shared lives is made up of individual threads that are each as important as the whole.

Such an overused meme it becomes comedy gold
I went to China with my school and everywhere we went we go asked for photos and people swarmed us with cameras and it was so mental omg. we aren't even famous or anything but I think it was just because we were basically just a group of 40 white british 15 year olds. a very crazy experience to say the least...
I had a similar experience in Romania.
I think it's beautiful to see different cultures experience each other for the first time.
itsmaisyjane Most tourists to Chinese hotspots are from parts of China that have hardly ever seen a white person, so yeah it’s a big deal for them.
I was there with my school a teacher and his class took pictures with me.

So how did Brother Orange's cousin get the phone?
The guy who stole it probs gave it to him for cash
He probably got sold it for quite cheap. Used phone stores generally means stolen phone store. Whether the owner knows, or not.
so his cousin were bought back then in the US?
I think it will go on like this. Some guy stole it from the Restaurant, sold it in the blackmarket. Phone got shipped to China. And his brother probably bought it from some reseller back home.
sounds like a crazy coincidence, especially that he is a buzzfeed employee
I usually hate buzzfeed, but this is incredible

The Chinese people use social media in the way it was meant to... use it to bring people together. Western societies use it in its worst incarnation: cutting themselves off, bullying, hacking, etc. This shows the stark contrast in cultures but also the similarities in people and personal experiences. When we share our lives, we find that we are more similar than different- We all enjoy food, love our families and friends, find the same situations funny or heartbreaking; we all share similar struggles as well. If we would all take this story and see that every single life is a series of tiny decisions that brought us to the people we love the most, and to the place we are in life then we could see, at least in part, that the beautiful tapestry that is our shared lives is made up of individual threads that are each as important as the whole.
nice sentiment but asians bully each other horribly through the internet too. "antis" and "netizens" bring fear to the heart of asian celebrities lol
What Aleks said, and the Chinese government also uses social media to spy on its citizens even more boldly than our government here.
"We all enjoy food " im sorry but that is hilarious
Umm. Chinese people do those bad stuff too...
China mainland has Facebook, Instagram and all that banned too
