Liquid Metal it, takes care of all throttle issues. Mine use to hover at 50-60c idle, now it sits at 30-40c, benchmarks use to hit 100 all the time, now it does around 80c under full load. Well worth the upgrade.

Im watching this on an old thinkpad x230 (i5 3320m) and it cost me $150 a year ago..
I see nothing here to justify spending $1500 on this as an upgrade to mine.
That kind of money can get you the upper-tier laptops and pcs these days that absolutely blow this out of the water in every regard.
Lenovo can contact me when they're selling this at a reasonable price... about $350...lol

That’s the thing with these. First, they go to companies, and then they become attractive machines on the 2nd hand market. Getting one of these new as a consumer makes less sense. My X301 is still holding up well.

It's extremely lightweight and stuffs away in baggage very easily with a long battery life. I spent most of my days in a Linux terminal and will run Fedora on it (when I get it next week), so perhaps we all have different needs. Looking forward to getting away from a Mac and into something a bit more customizable, as well as closer to what I build on for work (CentOS).

laptops nowadays are just to expensive. I bought a Samsung laptop with a i5 3320m with 4gb ram from ebay 3 years ago for $90 and it has never given me a problem. All i did was upgrade the HDD it came with with a SSD from Micro Center for about $20 and it is extremely fast. boot is about 6 secs and all programs open instantly. I can run several chrome tabs without the laptop lagging on me. I dont play video games so gaming is not an issue for me but for $90 and $20 SSD I am very satisfied. Spending hundreds and hundreds of dollars on laptops just doesn't make sense.

The P1 is the best in the Thinkpad line for Enterprise.....it has all
the things missing in the x1 carbon including a better thermal solution
of two fans, updatable, with no complaints spected with a i5 and FHD
screen. Battery life is always a problem with any thin and light with
high specs. Zeon users should consider the docking solution for maximum
    power output.
Software does limit full capability unless you have it plugged in which
is sensible. Have not tried it with Enterprise oios or linux yet.
Several updates to firmware have given the battery a longer time
envelope. Probably the best you can get in this category at this time..
The biggest chritisium on lenovo is that they will not factory install
third party software for visually impaired employees. Unless the
chineese start to fit in with the EU and UK markets on disability, they
will continue to loose market share in Europe. Interested if in the
future if you could spec linux and AMD.

I love my X1 Carbon 4th gen but I'm holding off until they offer something with an AMD CPU in it. I feel like an Ultrabook would benefit greatly from the Vega GPU in the AMD APUs. After lugging around a 3-4lbs laptop for years I will only buy Ultrabooks now and thanks for Lenovo's awesome quality, value, and support I'll be sticking with Lenovo going forward (prior to my X1 all of my laptops since high school were HP which I always liked, but Lenovo is just above and beyond).

  • @arigato7788
    @arigato7788 5 лет назад +4

No, it definitely is overpriced by a wide margin considering its dated and limited hardware, as well as its inconsistent performance on sustained loads. At such a price point you'd expect a more recent CPU, even if it's only an i5 (which outperform i7s from the previous gen anyway), paired with a discreet GPU. Soldered RAM is a bummer as well.
It only has decent i/o and that sleek look going for it.

Idk if you already chose a laptop, but I too am in the same position and from all my research the gen 7 is better. In terms of performance the gen 8 because it had the newer generation processor but I believe that’s it which in my opinion is very negligible considering it’s just a year newer processor. Everything else is the same. It’s like buying a 2019 Honda Accord vs a 2020. Same exact car just the gen 7 will cost you less money.

    For only 256GB SSD
    DDR3 ram, only 1080p,
    tell him he's dreamin'...
Much better off going with a cheaper vastly more capable y540. Sure it's gonna be a little heavier, but if portability/size/weight was a concern you would buy a UMPC.

Don't forget build quality, Thinkpad are built like tanks. These are meant to last. Also, It's important to note how much RAM you get for the price. And finally, 1400-1500 might be the listing price, but that's not the price for which you will buy them. They are almost always on sale, hence much cheaper.
