  • We wanted to share our Easy FRP Panel Installation. We don't install Fiberglass Reinforced Plastic often - we generally don't like it. That being said, we like doing things well, and we believe in durability. We're building out an all-electric taproom for a craft brewery and needed something durable for the commercial kitchen and at the back bar. The health department required either tile, stainless steel, or FRP. Our clients opted for FRP.
We installed 5 sheets or black FRP the previous week and it was a mess. The glue that our supply house gave us was runny and a total mess. We dialed in our materials and came up with a pretty foolproof system. We went ahead and posted the links to the materials we used. We got everything from either Lowes or Amazon.
We had our Festool track saw + vacuum set up - that's how we made our cuts. We posted a couple links to helpful cutting videos below!
We had a TON of outlets to detail around, as well as irregular corners. Let us know what you think!

We used our tracksaw - it was perfect. If you don’t have one, you can score and snap!

It would be nice to see how you cut the length of the board

We used our festool track saw, which was a breeze. You can score and snap, though, or probably use a circle saw with the depth set really low and FRP on foam. Make sure to wear goggles and a mask!

I'm thinking about using FRP on the edge of the shower. Would that be ok? It wouldn't be hit by the water directly, it would just be covering up the sheetrock that was removed.

I am building a bathroom in my repair shop. Can you tell me if FRP would be suitable for this? My main concern is the ability to spray the bathroom with soap, and use a hose to rinse. Concentrating on the sink and toilet, but also if there is any dirt on the walls. Thanks

I'm always a fan of a cheap tile with redgard and cement board behind it for high traffic environments that are gonna be hosed down.
      .
That being said, you can make FRP work! I'd try to use full sheets wherever possible and avoid seams in areas where you're planning to hose down. Really be conscientious about caulking all the seams, corners, tops, and bottoms! If there's water pooling on the floor after you rinse, take extra care at the base. Maybe a pvc 1x3 would be better than the flexible base moulding.

Thank you. I am planning on using cement board first, then covering with FRP. Yes I will caulk all seams. I will look into 1x3 pvc.@@GreenBuildingNetwork

Whats the difference between the .6 and .9 thickness panel? Is one as easy to cut holes as the other?

We’ve never specified either, tbh. I’d imagine the only difference is .3 though. With power tools, I’d imagine the difference is negligible
