They said I was dehydrated that's why vertigo kicked in.

There is a small crystal that gets dislodged that tells your brain your head is tilting or moving. This little crystal is present in every human being but when it gets dislodged it moves via fluid to an area it is not suppose to be. The epley maneuver is a set of positions to put your head in to put the crystal back in place through momentum gained in the fluid of the ear by using gravitational force by tilting the head in a certain manner via the epley maneuver.
I did it and it did go away and also a little fluid actually exited the ear so I expected my feeling to be caused by a build up of fluid in the ear. I had a perforated ear drum and from time to time it will ring and apparently will build fluid causing the vertigo. The ear drum busted from a viral infection that after it popped my equilibrium was thrown off and started draining cerebral fluid (not good and sort of gross). I would be sitting and fluid would just pour out of the ear, I could also blow air through it by holding my nose which is a sure sign of a busted ear drum.

Jesse;Same here. You might want to get tested for Meniere's Syndrome which is different than BPPV. I have Secondary Endolymphatic Hydrops which is similar to Menieres and I have to watch I consume to avoid the lighheadness or flaoty feeling that you describe. You will need to start reading, a I did, to figure out what it going won with you. You might want to start with an ENT specialist and move forward from there.

@bubblebear83 I've used wax earplugs for over 8 years and I've had the dizziness symptoms too. I also have pain in the ear, no doctor has ever agreed that it's caused by earplugs use, they are actually pointing to neck and jaw muscle tension. Go figure!

I thought the same thing. I get so dizzy I drop to the floor just to avoid falling. I cant even crawl without tipping over let alone manage to get somewhere to be able to do this. I did find something that helps for me though.
My episodes are pretty intense, so within 60 seconds I get nausea and vomiting. I feel like Im tumbling in the dryer.
Ive had five episodes in the last two months, but since Ive been pulling on my ear, they dont get to the point of nausea and the dizziness goes away fairly quickly, especially compared to just waiting for it to pass.
As soon as I feel one start, I pull my earlobe out and forward parallel to my face. Then give it about 10 to 15 good tugs in quick succession. The dizziness fades in about 20 seconds or so (it feels like a long 20 seconds though) I keep my eyes closed while I do this to focus on whether or not I feel like Im moving. Open them occasionally to see if my vision matches how I feel. I stay seated until those two things match up. A stationary feeling and normal optics. Afterwards I feel a bit floaty but that usually goes away in about 30 minutes. If it doesn't, I take a nap and I'm 100% when I wake up.
Im not a doctor so... I wouldn't take it as legit medical advice. Im just assuming the ear tugging is enough to jostle my inner ear to level me out.
But if you give it a shot, best case... It helps and thats awesome. Worst case, you waste a few seconds tugging on your ears.
Its been a simple life saver for me though.

I experienced Vertigo for the first time (I am now 68yo) about a month ago. It was a terrifying experience, which
I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy. It only lasted about 15 seconds, but felt like a lot longer. I sat on the bed for
four hours, unable to move. Since then I've had three more attacks, not quite so bad, but bad enough. I am now
doing various exercises to try to prevent it happening again, or at least make the recovery quicker.
After an attack it can take me two or three days to fully recover.

I had an attack of BPPV a couple of years ago - I was going to my doctor for something else and while I was there I suddenly started feeling really dizzy and I had uncontrollable vomiting- my doctor was very, very alarmed and so were her technicians. I also could not stand or walk without assistant. So my doctor would NOT let me drive home so she called the local hospital and they sent an ambulance. I was in ER for about 5 hours - since nothing showed up on all the scans, blood tests, and xrays they were very dismissive with me when they released me. I went to see my rheumatologist several days later and he had the exact same attack as I had and he told me I had BPPV.

Thanks! I had this last week for 3 days after 10km intensive running. Went running yesterday again and it was back. Did my research and I think it's BPPV. I was at the doctor last week and pointed to my head and said "somehow I have the impression something is wrong inside my head on the left." I'm starting to understand what now! I did the Epley manoevre to the left, bit of speculation, became very dizzy and waited till it stopped (saw this in another video of yours!) and noticed a major improvement immediately. Somehow I think the vertical movement of my running triggers it. I found this research study related to that: _Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo after intense physical activity: a report of nine cases_
Next week I have a CT scan of my head in the hospital.
( P.S. A sister from my church send me messages last week telling me that she woke up in the night and the Holy Spirit told her to tell me my problem were the crystals in my ear.. I didn't look into it at that time, but now I think she might have been right. )

I've had my first vertigo in my late 20s, after an accident that traumatised my back neck. Almost all vertigo crisis I've had since then happened after I did something that tired very much my shoulders and back neck. It got much worse after spending 8 months in bed in my last pregnancy though and 1,5 year ago, at 6 months post partum, I had a crisis that took like 5-6 months to fully recover... If I wasn't very careful, one wrong move triggered it again. Since then I cannot bent my head down to my right, or I get instant vertigo for some seconds. Which is what I accidentally did yesterday morning, but it lasted longer and I fell on the floor and I've been with nausea since then. Hoping it will not last for months again, since I cannot relax and take my time as a mom of three to recover. 😢

2:05 this is a very VERY important point. You get the vertigo (intense dizziness for some seconds) but then the balance is affected for a while longer. Thanks for this. This is exactly what is happening to me. Felt the trigger while changing position on bed, two days on a row when I was just about to wake up, and had the vertigo for less than a minute but then the walking is a bit funny for some minutes. After that I can function normally.

Spinning CAN LAST more than a couple of minutes! The "afterglow" can make me feel fuzzy, out-of-it,lightheaded for hours or days. Until I learned Epley, spinning went on for a full day or more. Horrible feeling. Disabling. Takes away confidence to drive,or go out at all. I needed to hold onto the wall just to go to and from the bathroom. It recurs less frequently now, but I know Epley. In the beginning, spinning recurred every week or 2 and left me DRAINED.

Even though I worked in an ENT office years ago and had often recorded the diagnosis of BPPV on a patient's bill, or scheduled an appt for dizziness, I never really knew what this was like until it happened to me. It had been about 10 yrs since that job, but I did recall the diagnosis, so I looked it up on the internet and did the Epley maneuver myself. I was lucky enough that it worked, though I had spent a few dizzy days before I had thought of trying it. Months later, I had an incident when I stretched my neck up one evening, just stretching, I could feel the vertigo begin immediately. Now, I keep this possibility in mind most of the time.

Then it took over 30 seconds and the room was spinning like 100 revolutions per minute and accelerating! Sweat was pouring from my face and then vomiting. The exercises for BPPV are good for a couple of weeks, but remember that you need to find out the underlying cause of the diziness. For me, it was vitamin D deficiency. I get vertigo about once every 6 months or so. I do the Epley maneuver for a few days and the vertigo diminishes and goes away. The sooner I do the maneuver after my first symptoms the shorter the duration of vertigo is. The first time I had vertigo(11 years ago) my dr. gave me antibiotics with little effect. An accupressurist cured me after 2 sessions. For me, vertigo is recurrent and I am always wary of it. I don't know if I have 'vertigo' or not...but out of the blue and w/o notice, BAM!! everything starts going "woo woo woo' in my head, things go black, I feel like I'm going to puke, I'm instantly dizzy, feel like I'm gonna faint, and I absolutely MUST lie down IMMEDIATELY or I KNOW I'm gonna hit the floor if I don't lay down somewhere. It's a terrible feeling. I just have to lay down and push thru those scary symptoms til eventually they subside. Generally, even tho I may be in the middle of making dinner or something like that, I will finally fall asleep for about an hour and wake up (THANK GOD!) feeling ok. Weird, huh?? It's very perplexing.... VERY scary, and VERY uncomfortable.....to say the least!!

Same! Just out of no where, i feel like Im a sock in the dryer. Everything spins violently, within 30 seconds i start to get the sweats and nausia and vomiting. Last time, my body actually jerked back like it does the when a roller coaster takes off. I couldnt even crawl without tipping over it was so bad. Laying down helps a bit but as soon as I move or sit up..more vomiting. When the worst of the spinning stopped, i felt like I could just pass out, so i would take a nap whwrever I was laying at the time. The floatiness would last all day until I woke up the next morning. It was really intense.
I found that tugging on my ears helps. Ive had five episodes this year but none got to the vomit point since ive started doing this. Typically, the dizziness subsides fairly quickly (within 30 seconds). I feel a bit floaty for a little while after, but that goes away if its not gone within an hour I just take a little nap if I can and when I wake up, I'm 100%.
As soon as it starts, I take my earlobe, pull it out and forward. Keep it fairly close to my face, and give it 10 to 15 good firm tugs in quick succession (try it on both ears if youre not sure which one is causing the problem).
Im not a doctor, so I wouldnt consider this as legit medical advice. but i figure maybe the ear tugs help jostle the inner ear and help me level out again? Either way, its been a life saver for me. If you give it a shot, just dont pull hard enough to hurt youself but firm enough to let those floaty ear particles know whos boss.
Some people get worse dizziness than others, but if its that bad its worth a shot in a pinch.
I hope it helps if you try it.

Laying down for a nap usually brings it on. I get up dizzy and it lasts about an hour. Tilting my head back, looking on grocery shelves can bring it on, but not always. I had BPPV before, but it seemed more intense and shorter lasting. This time it's more mild and sporadic, and dragging on longer. I checked my blood pressure. As usual, it's excellent. Next up my ENT said no you have a Vestibular Migraine. prescribed me Venlafaxine ER 37.5m (a anti-depressant). Take this for 2 weeks and you'll be fine. I take one at 10am. By noon the vertigo is 80% gone. Cool. At 2am the next morning I wake up with a blinding headache. Since I don't get headaches and I had read if you take this medicine you might want to monitor your blood pressure. So I take my blood pressure. It's 196/101. Yep off to the emergency room we go.

And then I’ll spend days feel like I’m “on the verge” of vertigo or dizziness…if that makes sense? A couple of months ago I’m at the dentist getting a root canal and something about the combination of the drill vibrations and being tilted way back (back top tooth) set it off. I began violently dropping and had to stop them till it ended. Gonna try implementing these exercises and tests to see if anything happens. Thanks for trying to help us sufferers!

It's so difficult to find doctors who take vertigo seriously. If it takes months to get in to see a dizziness doctor, that's ridiculous when one has debilitating vertigo! I had a physical therapist who did the Epley maneuver just once and my vertigo was gone. She moved away and I cannot find one doctor or therapist in downtown Chicago who can do this for me! This is nuts. Will medical professionals please treat vertigo seriously!?!

Surprisingly, not all GP's recognize BPPV. Once it is diagnozed, though, the Epley manoevre does work. Some physicians are specially trained to do it, which is ideal; but it can be done at home with someone's help, as long as they do it properly.

I have been dizzy since April 2019. saw 2 dr. one said it's the flu. i have asked for mri and ct scans but nope.. blood and urine are fine. finally saw HeadSugeon & ENT had hearing test, normal, he had me sit in chair like at dentist. tilted me back i said i'm dizzy... he sat me up, held my head and shook my head back and forth 20 times. put a scope up right nostril. had mr watch his finger etc.. then says i do not have BPPV because mt eyes don;t flutter.. i asked what else could it be. he said he didn't know, go see a doctor. this came on suddenly in april. i have had to stop my life because it prevents me from doing things, like going to the cemetery where my parents are. even travelling in my jpower wheelchair makes me dizzy, reaching up, leaning down, as soon as i lay down or stand up and just holding onto my walker to go to the toilet, my head spins. when i am still, i'm ok. i have a grandchild on the way in november and i want to be able to hold her. my grandson is 4 and he misses me playing with him. please, can someone help me?? my GP's office is not wheelchair accessible and going to walk in clinic drs is not helping. please?? anyone??

The first time I had Vertigo is when I had Dilantin Toxicity & it was pretty bad! It was because I had lost 87 lbs which took a year to lose weight. Anyway, that stopped because I was on the right dosage. Now I start getting Vertigo because I tend to pick the inside of my ears a lot, nervous habit. I know there are crystals in our ears. I am on a 25mg medicine of Meclizine, not the chewables but the real thing. I was on the chewables but they didn't do much for me. I just recently started the real Meclizine & it will take time to work. I have to take 3 pills, 3 times a day. This morning, I couldn't finish my cereal, I was nauseated. It's either my Fibromyalgia or my Vertigo, maybe both.

I've had 2 serious bouts and I get it mildly when I gently look up to unlock my big shed but no real problems. 20mins ago I placed my back against my fence to support me, just in case. I looked up to see the Swallows nesting under the apex of my roof. That was enough. I staggered. Back into my house sweating a dizzy. My eye condition means no upper vision so my head is tilted backwards far more in order to see stuff. Usually the little bit of vision I have is used to look at the ground to keep my balance. I'm ok now. Jock.

Thank you so much for these informative videos. I was in a car accident, got whiplash. About 3 months later, I came home from grocery store, got dizzy, layed down, thought I was food poisoned. I had the most violent episodes of vomiting and dry heaves, along with, cold sweating, chills, shortness of breath. I was basically motionless for the next 24-36 hours, on the floor. It took another 2 days to recover. I have been diagnosed with Bppv on the right side. I have not been able to complete the entire exam more than once, without the same thing happening again, although the episodes are shorter now, since I have been checked twice. Today was my 3rd exam, symptoms lasted 6 hours. I am weak, as I did fast, I am 73 yrs old, very active, good shape.
Am I experiencing normal reactions to the treatment? I am doing stretching exercises for the neck. It appears that the symptoms are less severe and with shorter duration. Not a pleasant thing to go through, I wonder if I am having anxiety attacks? My plan is to continue with therapy.

I read that anxiety dizziness is often misdiagnosed as bppv. When I had a couple of episodes which happened when I was in bed, out of the blue. I don’t recall being able to tell if it was a specific ear. I got out of bed felt dizzy for about a minute or 2, but not enough to make me nauseous or vomit, nothing like that. Felt off for rest of the day. Doc said it was bppv, but obviously not severe. I have also had some imbalance issues when I get up in the middle of the night. I got very stressed after this, and ended up with more minor lightheaded/dizzy issues some which seemed like a mild case of bppv and some which seemed brought on by stress, one was an episode were if I looked up to the right I felt a bit dizzy. It also varied in the length of time of seconds to hours, again, not enough to make me vomit. And also has happened lying down, siting and standing with barely any head movement at all? So my mind was thinking anxiety because dizziness can change. I thought perhaps in some instances it was mimicking bppv? Can bppv come on just sitting still or moving your head slightly down? I tried this manoeuvre but nothing happened..I am very confused as to whether I have bppv or not. I don’t know if it can be brought on by stress, (my doc said it’s not related), or do I just have dizziness from anxiety and it’s affecting my vestibular system? Or both! Stress and bppv because I was so stressed about being dizzy in the first place! I didn’t recognise it as anxiety related when it first happened out of the blue, as it was very different from anything I had had in the past. I don’t know if I have bppv or my anxiety has shifted and I just happened to wake up with it. My doc has refused to send me to ENT.
So I still don’t know. It all very frustrating. I want answers so I know how to move forward. Living life everyday thinking I am going to go dizzy is really affecting me. Even if there has been months since the last one:( thanks for your videos:)

I have had this in the past, and one time , my chiropractor at the time, did some maneuvers and while I hated it, it did help.
Now , for the past 2 weeks, have been experiencing a spectacularly severe bout of it, but what is really bad, is I also have very bad gastritis with it. I swear, both things, began at the same time. I did see a doc , who put me on Prilosec and I am off Motrin , coffee, dairy, etc.......(NSAIDS no doubt caused my gastritis as I take enormous amounts for my RA and OA) He made no comment regarding my dizziness. My sister, a nurse keeps pointing out that it should not be a symptom of GI issues. I told her I know it shouldn't, but it is. It is gradually better with Prilosec and careful eating. But the other night I had a few pieces of pineapple and woke in middle of the night with room spinning so much it was like being onboard ship with 40 foot waves.. No kidding. And then , I threw up , belched etc, took some Mylanta and laid down, it subsided. It is crazy and I can't find anyone with info about why I am experiencing dizziness with gastritis.
I look at it this way, when I AM car sick or seasick, I have both symptoms, so maybe my body reacts to upset stomach this way? Any thoughts on it?

    • @gretahoostal8565
      @gretahoostal8565 4 года назад

I think it sounds like maybe you’re allergic to pineapple! Possibly something else too. My daughter has FPIES, a food allergy. I have given her only 1 new food at at time, waiting for possible allergic reactions. I 1st gave her baby oatmeal at breakfast when she was 8 mos. old. Then she woke up in the middle of the night & threw up an immense amt. She seemed OK after that, but the next morning had lots of diarrhea, & was writhing around & crying. It didn’t stop for 2 wks. Later I found out it was FPIES & that the allergic reaction happens when the food gets to some point in the intestines, reason for the delay. (She also threw up immense amts of bile from having had rye toast at about age 2. And had several days of diarrhea a few times from undetected trace amts of the grains.) 1 possible symptom of FPIES is dizziness from shock (but fortunately hers hasn’t been quite bad enough so far to result in shock). Maybe you have something similar that happens to adults instead of children.
Already I’m very prone to motion-sickness, from anything wavier than a ferry on a lake/bay in good weather & from any rides that spin around. This vertigo for me has been the same as motion sickness, so when it’s been bad, I’ve taken Dramamine.

I one time had it and took pepto as I also had acid issues. The dizziness would go whenever I had just taken it but come back when the med stopped being affective. So it must have some to do with it. But last couple years it has been starting in middle of night.
