Too funny, I literally just hopped onto this video to comment cause I was thinking how on cloud 9 Browns fans must be. First playoff game in 18 years and you're handing the team that's been crushing your division forever their ass, big-time. Awesome for you guys!
Watching the news right now while making dinner (West Coast) our sports guy said the Browns were "destroying" the Steelers. Fingers are crossed for Uncle Larry and friends.........
Honestly I tune in mainly for the viewer comments section! The opening jams are always cool and often inspired (especially the ones without the looper, I find), but the lessons are wayyyy above me :-D
Love this little sweet spot to be and hang out with uncle Larry. :) you’re so genuine and down to earth Tom. I totally respect you’re playing, knowledge and love of the guitar and great music. I have a feeling your channel is going to explode this year, we are listening bro, I mean really listening. Love your stories, they really hit home, I love the honest approach you have in your videos. You’re one of a kind man. Keep keeping it real, learning so much from you and I haven’t even picked up my guitar while watching your videos yet, I just love absorbing it all. Keep em coming! Enjoy your day of football and family! Cheers!
I have been binge watching from show # 1. This time on the big screen with my guitar cranked. Its like having someone to jam with who really knows how to play. Thanks Tom
Been a sad week for me. My cousin, Chad, passed away last Sunday. He was a drummer. We were just talking the week before about getting into the studio together. Watching you play guitar in the beginning got me inspired to get back at it. Thx Uncle Larry
Hey Tom, Thank you for all you have done for the guitar playing community! You are the best and thank you for introducing guitar house of Tulsa to us who have never been to Oklahoma. I just got myself a 57 VOS les Paul junior from the boys and I cannot be happier! Keep up the videos and go browns!!!
As far as being replaced on a track, sometimes you play something so good it is axed. If you suddenly pop out with something brilliant that stands out, then you go back to a lackluster performance or song, it can kill a track or someone's ego. It is like a movie with okay writing and okay actors. Then suddenly some cameo by a huge talent comes in and just nails it. Then you get let down when you go back to the regular cast. You weren't judging as harshly until your expectations were raised. This is one of many ways it could happen but something to remember when you KNOW you nailed it. When everyone knows you nailed it. Then something more mundane replaces it. -ToneTalk brought me here. Love the channel. Subbed.
Uncle Larry - you inspire me to play every time I watch one of your videos. I’ve been playing for just over 2 years and have learned so much from you. You are a true gold mine of life experience and music and incredibly generous for sharing with us homeskoolers. This video moved me from a boy in the area of bending to an adolescent. Haha. Hoping to become a man of bending in the near future. Thanks again. Cheers from Salem, Oregon
I completely connect with your tone and soul brother. Thank you for sharing your gift. I am the same age as you and just discovered you. God gave me a gift of guitar as well but alcohol consumed most of my life until recently. I however was very non functional and a black out. I’ll keep soaking up the love brother.❤
Helloooooooo Cleveland! Hey, Tom! From one of the Class in KC, can't wait for Sunday. Its going to be a great game. Man, I've been watching Homeskoolin' all year and can't thank you enough for what you're doing. You've been a bright light in a very dark year. Each jam out of your garage is medicine for the brain! I can't wait to hear the TTW record, too. Here's to a great year for you and your family. Looking forward to more great stuff. Cheers and thanks! Bill in KC
Hi Tom, I've been watching your videos now for about 8 months and have never replied to any of them so I thought that it was long over due. Just wanted to let you know what a joy it is to listen to you play, take in your advise on so many aspects of playing, and hear you talk about your view points of everything under the sun. I love the fact they you do your videos out of the garage....perfect! On this video you mention speaking with Dean DeLeo. I've always thought that this guy is such a powerhouse guitar player and I don't see as many accolades bestowed upon him as I think he deserves. Anyway.....thank you for all of the fantastic videos that you have put together! Big fan in Pennsylvania, Jim
“You have to let go, you have to detach, and just be an iron man and play what you think is right. If they replace it, fuck them”. I laughed so hard at work, they asked if I was ok. Great words of advice. Another of the many quotes of yours I love are, “I don’t have a secret weapon, but it’s a weapon I use secretly”. Hope I didn’t mess up that last quote and can’t remember which episode it’s from. Please don’t ever stop making Homeskoolin’ Uncle Larry, it’s one of the bright spots I have in theses dark days as a Nurse.
That lesson about the shoulder of the pick is the most valuable guitar lesson I’ve ever had. Ive practice hours on my alternate picking and it never quite got clean Until now. Thanks man
Hey Tom, thanks for sharing your personal experiences. I've been playing guitar, bass, keyboard, and singing for 51 years. I was in a few bands, but realized everyone wanted a copycat sound, so I stopped doing bands. I love to play, but gotta be me. I appreciate what you do because it takes a certain kind of person to be a real session man. I've played and sang in front of 20,000 people for a summer jam 40 years ago and had a blast, but after the show I sold all the equipment to the band because I couldn't be me, they wanted a certain image. It's funny how sometimes you get what you want and realize it's not what you thought. I know exactly what you mean when you play a sweet lick and it gets replaced. You know it's a perfect fit, but they were looking for a different sound. Props to you man, I definitely take it personal. Lol
Thank you Tom for making these videos, you -unknowingly- provide me the assurance that whatever I play when I'm alone in my room can be as good/significant as what you hear on the radio/internet. Making music because it's the only thing that makes sense. Appreciate your work all the way from Egypt!
Hey Tom, a parcel arrived for me yesterday, a cool Home Schooling t-shirt! A Christmas present from my lovely wife. She had been tracking it nervously since November. It went from Tulsa to a military compound in Frankfurt Germany, then back to New York, then down to Jamaica then back across to London finally up to Manchester yesterday. Take comfort Tommy, even if no one else is touring the world your (very comfy!) t-shirts are!
Tom, Thank you for more sensei guitar teachings!, Bending seems so elementary and you do it all the time self-consciously, I don't even know that I'm doing some of the things I do. Thank you for taking us back and showing us the finer points! Hey something unrelated..how's the the Impala doing? Did they do the rear main seal, the oil pan and the valve cover gaskets? Old cars are so cool, but man do they need an overhaul after some decades. Take care , and keep on playin'!
Hey Tom, back in the 80’s I met Tommy Tedesco and ever since, he has been what I thought a Session Man was like. Until now. He was a great technical player. He could read any kind of chart put in front of him and could deliver whatever type of music the producer needed - even beyond guitar. Need a banjo? He had one - it was tuned like a guitar. Mandolin? Lute? Bouzouki? Same thing, all tuned like a guitar. And he got paid extra for whatever additional instruments he played. But you, Little Tommy, are cut from a different cloth. If TT was a technician, you are an artist. Yes you have the chops, but it seems like you play from the heart. Musician first, right? And the way you talk about your studio brethren, it seems like many others deliver the same. Now is it a Nashville vs LA thing, or is it the evolution of the state of guitar, or is it purely personal style? Whatever it is, it’s a pleasure to hear. And many thanks for the Skoolin’.
Hey Tom, another great video. My coach keeps telling me , repetition works. He tells me Some of the best coaches in history use it relentlessly. Don’t worry about repeating yourself he tells me, that’s thinking of me, my clients want me to repeat it to them. Plus, there’s research shows that that we only retain less than 10% of what we listen to. It goes up to 20% if you take notes... keep the repetition coming. 😄For me, I actually appreciate it ( also, I only discovered your channel a month or 2 ago. Lol) Totally Awesome chords in the intro man. Love those obscure notes. Blew me away. I love it when the artist goes in a totally unpredictable direction and you’re like thinking I’m not sure about this and then boom, makes it sounds so good. Great stuff. Can’t imagine how that can sting when they use something else on a part you felt really good about. Ouch. I can kinda relate. That’s the way things go sometimes. Things work out best for those who make the best of the way things work out.
Hey Uncle Larry, I grew up in Meadville PA, a town deeply divided as the Browns and Steelers were about 2 hours away in either direction. I've always been a Steelers fan, but have to say that I'm happy your Browns are finally coming back. I hope the dismal years are behind you guys. Good luck tomorrow. It's good to see the rivalry back on equal footing. Enjoy your RRock and enjoy da football youz guyz. Have a great weekend.
Well the Browns kicked some ass tonight. Congratulations to you and the guy I saw walking down the street here in a Browns T shirt today! I’m sure that there are a lot of Browns fans that are having a great Sunday night.
Love Dan Huff’s work whether as a guitarist, singer, producer, writer - all of it. Great guy who will be a great guest. Starting to hear your licks in the tracks you laid down over your career. It’s so cool how much music you influenced through the years. Never would have known had you not decided to open class.
FOOTBALL!! Go Browns, Go Titans!! Love those chords Larry...Suspended Slash Chords.... Keep playing like a man Uncle Larry. California Loves you Little Tommy B
Uncle Larry, Wanted to offer a thank you for spreading the word about the Nobels ODR-1. My wife bought one of these for me for Christmas this year, and all I can say is I'm a believer with a fever.. Its on my board and there it shall remain. peace.
I'm so grateful for what you talked about in an earlier video on playing melodies. I'm terrible at learning licks but I'm so much better at creating my own ideas and I feel like I've been given permission to just play me, because that just feels like the right thing to do...Thanks Tom!
hey Tom. Gool luck with the "football". (I'm from Belgium, I can't comprehend your use of that term). That intro was bangin' as hell ! Thank you for the whole series, it's been awesome so far ! No pressure ! Also, you're wrong about beers ;) (did I mention I'm from Belgium ?)
Hey Tom I needed something to change my attitude about the last few days of confusion & ignorance we’ve all had so thanks for the calmness I get from your content so hope you & your family have good times ahead thanks again
"Lady Antebellum" is no longer "Lady Antebellum". Due to the PC pressure, they changed their name to "Lady A". I'm sure Little Tommy already knows this, was probably just a slip of the tongue. Love your vids! Keep up the great work!
Thanks again for your continued inspiration! I had another "Unlce Lar" breakthrough moment when I was playing yesterday and it was wonderful. My only slight glimmer of hope for todays gridiron contest is the old adage "on any given Sunday..." so Go Bears!
1.) Definitely have gone crazy trying to fill my SG need, lately In hopes of finding one this good. 2.) wow. Need to see the GOAT Uncle Dann show up. Much love, mate!
Thanks for your comments on bending in tune and how session guys sometimes have to play on bad songs. I had a job once where the music was awful and I was asked to re-cut a band’s guitarist’s solos- same parts, but just bending in tune. Hardest job I ever had! So bad, I asked for no credits in the liner notes...does that make me a complete turd? Haha- thanks for the fantastic show!
Thanks for the nutritious injection of sanity! The other Uncle Larry (Larry Carlton) taught me to bend in tune via Guitar Player magazine. Thanks for the free lessons. You Rock young man! We’ve all been cut from something. It sucks, but it’s an unfortunate part of the recording game. The other side of that is that it literally kills me to have to cut a friend’s part from a recording because I know it doesn’t fit or I’ve found a better part.
I worked in a studio in the 80’s starting as a tape op. Roger Chapman was in with Mike Vernon producing and Alvin Lee came in for the day to play on i think six tracks for the album. Id seen Woodstock and was in awe for the whole day. I think they used about 1 minute on the album. Brutal . Great show thanks from the UK
Love your show. Been here since the beginning. I’m sure you remember going into a bar and getting a case of 64 poney bottles of rock! We did that all the time at Penn State at a place called the Rat Skellar. Oh and one more thing! Go Steelers!
Nice name check for Bob Gatewood at about 13.00. It was through him that I found you. Your production/guitar playing on his last two albums was both tasteful and inventive.
'If they replace it - fuck them.' Words of wisdom. Thank you for this all-important lesson of detachment. Learning to check your ego is a lifelong task. You just made that task easier. 🙏👍
Hey, Tom, your stories about being replaced reminded me of a situation years ago (mid 1990's). I was a hockey coach, and one of my players was a freshman at Michigan and was out-performing a senior on the team who Michigan was promoting for the Hobey Baker Award (the Heisman for college hockey). TV announcers during games started to promote my former player as the star of the team. Suddenly, my former player went from the first line to the fourth line! He got replaced! In the end it was okay. He won two National Championships at Michigan, one as the Captain of the team.
Cannot wait for Trip the Witch! Also, Tom, I had my local gear store restring and set up my Squier Classic 60’s Vibe Stratocaster to as low as the string could go. Playing like butta!
Guys....its 28-0 browns right now in the FIRST QUARTER!!!!!
Crazy game. Go Browns!
35-16.Corners gotta start disrupting the routes or Ben is going to wipe out that deficit. Go Browns!
Steelers wimped out on that 4th and 1 and just paid for it. Go Browns!
So good
Thank you dude
We need to get Tommy over to England to hang with you guys when all of this finally winds down.
One day you guys will be in the same room. I feel it!
Already told Anderton's they have to interview him, too. He can do the rounds!
@@glennwhitlock1272 Please don’t. Tom is better than that.
Love the fact you chat to your kids in the videos. No annoyance just "Hey buddy what's up?" Gold
This is one of my favorite things about this show. He seems like a down to earth dude that's as good of a dad as he is a guitar player.
Man oh man that intro was cooking with gas and then you switched it to a sweet charcoal slow cook.
indeed
There are a lot of non-guitar playing people who really ought to be tuning into this channel just for the life lessons
Honestly I tune in mainly for the viewer comments section! The opening jams are always cool and often inspired (especially the ones without the looper, I find), but the lessons are wayyyy above me :-D
Finally the Man Is Back !!!! Saturday is saved!!
We all get replaced. Profound words of wisdom that we all can use. In all aspects of life
Re: Detachment
Leonard Cohen: "The less there was of me, the happier I got."
Please drop that "BUK just fucks around" album........ Love these little passages. Get someone to mash them into a vid..... Golden!
My relatives were asking me over the holidays if I was going to college or not. I told them I’m “homeskoolin’”
Best reply ever!
You can "homeskool" from college!
Never bored Tom. You are so blessed to have the talent and drive to fulfill what you knew you always wanted

The old "Hot Tub Success" metric. Classic.
You've earned yours.
Been a sad week for me. My cousin, Chad, passed away last Sunday. He was a drummer. We were just talking the week before about getting into the studio together. Watching you play guitar in the beginning got me inspired to get back at it. Thx Uncle Larry
@Pauly Walnutz thx Pauly. I appreciate it.
Hey Tom, please know that during these crazy times, we count on and appreciate the show. Thank you!!!
Maaaan. That intro was flawless. Beautiful work, Uncle Larry.
Never heard a bass player referred to as "the most sane of all of us." Just struck me as funny. Thanks for your work, Tom... :)
Gorgeous and poignant playing, Man. Reminds me of Blow By Blow.
“If they replace it, f*** them”. Love it. Great advice T. 👍
...."to pluck a string is human to bend a note divine"
Hey Tom,

Such an inspiring player Tom!! Also, I love the fact that there’s a Pete Cornish P-1 just laying in that misc box behind you😅
My sister married an NFL player. Jamal Johnson. I just play guitar in my bedroom while the games are on tv. Never got into the football
I used to love football played in school but know I have no desire to watch it and its been that way since 2,000 is. Play some guitar brother!

If everyone had a job that didn't feel like work society would probably fall apart; remember what a luxury that is. Great video.
Thanks...why do you think that “society would probably fall apart if everyone had a job that didnt feel like work”?
The Ironman mentality, I learned it on my first Nashville gig. I appreciate you Tom 🤘🏻
Uncle Larry rep’n the Browns! Love the hoodie. Great show. Keep them coming, please!
Thanks for doing all these uncle larry. Have brought a lot of knowledge and joy to me over the last year.
Nice to see you Tom!
We all need some sanity right now.
PEACE from Southwest Michigan!

Hey Tom, speaking of Dann Huff, what are your thoughts on using chorus? Do you ever use it on recordings?
Wonderful tune, made my day...
So good to see you back brotha! Thanks for the sweet sweet notes 🤘😜🤘
Cannot wait for Trip the Witch! Also, Tom, I had my local gear store restring and set up my Squier Classic 60’s Vibe Stratocaster to as low as the string could go. Playing like butta!
Amazing as always man!! Good luck for the game tomorrow
