The Boss ES-8 or ES-5 would give you similar control, and the MS-3 would provide a hybrid approach. The primary question, cost aside, is this: are you very particular about your effects, like different fuzz circuits and phaser stages, or do you just want to try different sounds?
Sounds great.... This is a good move by Boss, a small, powerful and cheap unit is what was missing from them - fractal and QC are beyond the budget / needs of many players. I have the GX100 and like the extra foot switches. Anyone who feels these lack numbers of amps of say Line 6 (do we need 200 amps?), do what I did put a tonex one in the loop - endless amps.. the Bluetooth module allows you to stream music / backing tracks as well through the unit.
Thanks for this, I definitely agree on the fractal and QC comments. Most people don’t realize a lot of guitar players don’t need things for live/recording use. Some people like myself just like to casually play. And spending close to 2 grand for a lot of features that I won’t even use just to have a studio reference sound is really disappointing. Gonna consider picking this up for the effects into my amp and headphones.
@@Sonny2299 they sound great in my opinion… many players use boss pedals even top pros, so not sure why the GX range are overlooked for Helix / QC / Fractal. My only comment would be (depending on your own needs) is consider the GX100 too if looking at GX10, identical unit but with 8 foot switches not 3, pros and cons to both obviously (but not a huge difference in price).
I switch off my amp mods on my core! I set it up to be used with my actual amp :) I have seen players who tweak all the time! can't make up their minds what sounds they want or need!! to me thats a headache! I stay focused on what I like the most and stick to it
I have the big brother of this one and I love it. Got it as a multi effect to use with my amps and it works amazing for that including using the send to do a WDW setup. Turns out it’s great as a modeler too. For those of you looking to get one or already have one or are new to it there are a couple of things to help make it sound and feel better, first setting up the input level for your guitars and playing style. I find it more important to setup for my playing style over what guitar I’m using but your mileage might be there and you have 10 levels you can save. Then your output settings for if your going to an amps input or return or line level with a few options for that and a +/-pad. Next when using the amp models that 3 way gain level switch can make a big difference, for some amps I like pushing the gain on a lower setting and other things to that effect. And lastly if you’re going into an amp some of the more creative effects can be finicky like the Terra echo which I surprisingly love. It gets a high pitched digital artifact noise that I don’t get with the amp models in the unit, an eq and the tone knob can help there. That and the regular modeler thing of setting up the global eq to take a little of both the low and high end
I also have a GX100, you hit the nail on the head, especially the global eq. Prior my last digital multi was the GT8 and I just couldn't get excited about it. It was serviceable playing with others but alone the drives just weren't there for me. The GX100 actually sounds good, and changed my mind about multi effect modelers.

I agree about that being the smart way to set up the basic presets. They're not hiding the tone under a wall of effects. I know what effects I like for certain things; I don't need some marketing dept. nerd's idea of showing off every bell and whistle at once to impress me. With each of the presets I immediately thought, "yes, I can work with that." So I'm already genuinely interested in the thing before I go wading through all the features and whatnot.
heel down on the exp pedal on my GT1000 has been programmed to do such for years! Though not by factory preset. Boss finally caught up with their users who've already been doing this.
@@BOSSinfoglobal Well well now that you respond to this. As a gx100 user and being part of a Facebook group owners of gx100 we need often updates, adding more amps not the X types, I mean other legends amps. More pedals. You need to fix some errors with the IRS and the new firmware, when update some IRS gets muted and we have to turn off the unit and on again. And a lot of other stuff that I cant remember that people says of problems with the 2.0 update.
@@gaboasis21 was it promised to you that you will recieve more amps, more pedals when you've purchased gx100? Bugs fixes are understandable, but you can't just say Boss bad because it's not giving you things it didn't promise when bought their product.
@BOSSinfoglobal as a GX100 user, updates I'd like to see - more clean Fender style amps, harmonic tremolo, maybe a slight re-working of the processing so that we don't run out of processing power so quickly, an octave block that does octave up, if you really wanted to pull out in the big guns - the Smooth delay setting from the DD20, reverse reverb. The GX100 is a great piece of kit but there's so big gaps in what it provides compared to other similar modellers x
Imagine this with the Friedman IR-J/IR-X/IR/D in the effects loop acting as the amp block... that'd be a killer hybrid solution with all those lush Boss effects.
Would it be a good idea to buy this just to run in my combo tube amp? Wanting to get into pedals seriously and this seems like the cheaper option. Also headphones + iPad recording is legendary to me.
My suspicion is that, since John Connearn is a Neural DSP endorsee, they might have said he can't appear on reviews for other multieffect brands anymore? That's just me speculating.
Very good option, although the problem is that Boss does not make periodic updates, in the time since the Gx100 has only had one real update, I used the Boss GT100 before, and although the GX100 is a good unit, it is still a must in In comparison, effects such as Laser Beam, Wave Synth, and above all being able to automatically change the bank up and bank down function are missing, when switching to manual mode, as was done in the GT100.
great videos as always! thank you. But it would be amazing if you could use a different guitar , maybe something with active pickups and show us heavy sounds too 🤘
The modelers are pretty good. Its come down to good modern cabinets too match. I still like a low watt tube amp. I play in my living room, for fun, but i write songs, and have a friend with a studio. I need something like this, for easy, versatile studio recording. I think.
I have the Boss GX100. It is the best piece of gear you can get at that price point. I use it in conjunction with an Eventide H90. Low latency, great feel, Boss Quality effects.
This will be a really nice upgrade from the GT-1 for a lot of people. For me, I don't really use expression pedals, and I already have a GT-1000Core, with plans to buy a second GT-1000Core. What I'm looking for, though, is whatever is going to replace the GT-1000Core. Will it be the GT-1100Core? The GT-2000Core? Although I'm very happy with the GT-1000Core, the fact is that Roland's BMC chipset is getting a bit long in the tooth, even though it still competes very favorably with newer competitor units, and we're due for the next generation of Roland custom DSP. I don't really need the touchscreen, but I do need the increased power of the GT-1000 compared to the GX-100. I am really very well satisfied with Boss' AIRD amps and the fact that using a Boss multifx unit gives me access to Boss' stellar proprietary effects that everyone else can only emulate.
I'd be interested to see what its like in a live scenario and also with bass. as a bass player looking to get into multi effects this does throw a spanner in the works lol. cant decide between the boss multifxs or line 6 stomp xl
12:00 Lee, i couldn’t agree more, it’s 2024 and BOSS is still using 2010 displays, i love the GX line, it’s just the outdated display that’s throwing me off
True! But I'd pay the $100 premium for better software, future support, and to lower my consumption of Chinese goods. Chinese brands are not well known for their software support. Barring any political bias, Chinese brands are perfectly good. They deliver usable multi-fx pedals at rock bottom prices which just means more options for the masses.

And that optional Bluetooth® Audio MIDI Dual Adaptor can be used you to edit sounds and stream audio from an iOS or Android mobile device. Nice, but I don't understand why earphones through Bluetooth seems not be an option. Why, because AFAIK, it's year 2024 now and I have been using BT earphones for years now with for example phone and TV set.
Nice demo guys.😂 Curious on thoughts, taking an amp emulator through an regular amp, you can't be getting the intended emulation? Example, plugging this into an AC15 and trying to emulate a tweed, what do you end up with?
I didn't like a month and a half going back and forth between the gx100 and the gt1000core because the form factor of the core was what I wanted, but I also wanted the expeession pedal and ease of use of the gx100. I've had it for like a month and now I've got to sell it because this is literally what I needed 😅

Wow. Sounds good right outta the box. Impressive unit. Looks like they’ll sell lots of these
This might be boss's best multi effects offering
Just played my fender Pro junior with a couple of pedals and enjoyed it more than my boss processor. Seems like the least you have the more you do!
Haha that's the thing...the boys would rather play with the toys than play the guitar and the music business know it.....take their money.
Loved my GX-100. Boss is super underrated when it comes to amp modeling
i have two questions: 1 can this work as a midi controller for other plugins on my pc? 2 does it have an app or other control software? thx!
That TV Jones Starwood is my favorite Tele neck pickup.
heel down on the exp pedal on my GT1000 has been programmed to do such for years! Though not by factory preset. Boss finally caught up with their users who've already been doing this.
I like the Boss effects, but they don’t update their products often enough. However, if they came out with a GX1000 core I might be tempted.
What updates would you expect to see? It's got everything you need from day one... 😜
@@BOSSinfoglobal
Well well now that you respond to this.
@@donlonger maybe you need to re learn to read... who the hell said that Boss are bad, did i say they promise something?
@BOSSinfoglobal as a GX100 user, updates I'd like to see - more clean Fender style amps, harmonic tremolo, maybe a slight re-working of the processing so that we don't run out of processing power so quickly, an octave block that does octave up, if you really wanted to pull out in the big guns - the Smooth delay setting from the DD20, reverse reverb. The GX100 is a great piece of kit but there's so big gaps in what it provides compared to other similar modellers x
Seeing all the stuff boss has added to the modelleres that came out in the last years makes me really anticipate the GT1000 successor!!!!!
I'm a Boss fanboy, and this definitely is something that I'd be interested in!
Where is Digital John ?💪👍
My suspicion is that, since John Connearn is a Neural DSP endorsee, they might have said he can't appear on reviews for other multieffect brands anymore? That's just me speculating.
Any chance there’ll be a bass demo?
Very good option, although the problem is that Boss does not make periodic updates, in the time since the Gx100 has only had one real update, I used the Boss GT100 before, and although the GX100 is a good unit, it is still a must in In comparison, effects such as Laser Beam, Wave Synth, and above all being able to automatically change the bank up and bank down function are missing, when switching to manual mode, as was done in the GT100.
Looks fantastic, thanks guys
great videos as always!
I think.
Meaning: Boss Gt1000 core 2, with this touchscreen UI, will be coming soon👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Sure?
@ just hopin thats what it means😂
I have the Boss GX100. It is the best piece of gear you can get at that price point. I use it in conjunction with an Eventide H90. Low latency, great feel, Boss Quality effects.
Did not expect to see that old Blockbusters sampling rave tune on Andertons! Blast from the past.
Lee calling Pete a "Div" was hilarious. Haven't heard that for years! "Oi, ya divvy!"
Need this smaller, without the expression pedal, like an HX stomp or the GT1000Core, to have the preamp/power amp stage between my pedals.
Yikes! This sounds and looks amazing 😻
Well done. I would have thought Digital John would be here!
Why do I think of Hale and Pace whenever you're together 😄😄
I'd be interested to see what its like in a live scenario and also with bass. as a bass player looking to get into multi effects this does throw a spanner in the works lol. cant decide between the boss multifxs or line 6 stomp xl
What guitar is Pete using? Is that a signature guitar of his?
The Valveton gp-200 which I believe you tested a while back, has a send/return on it. And is a bit cheaper actually
the valeton gp 200 (and 200 lt i think) also have effect loops
Finally, a pedal for us GT-1 users who want IRs and an effects loop!
12:00 Lee, i couldn’t agree more, it’s 2024 and BOSS is still using 2010 displays, i love the GX line, it’s just the outdated display that’s throwing me off
I’m extremely happy with my GX100 but if I couldn’t have afforded it I would definitely have gone for this now!!!
Great video. I think the extra 200$ is worth it for GX100. 2 years in, love it more every day
Gx-10, I have the GX-100, love it. Hopefully the the next GT-1000 has more of the design of the GX-100, simplicity with even more power.
Kemper had it for years and years (volume pedal and tuner)!! Love the vid guys, love the energy.
The Sonicake matribox 2 pro is $299 and it has touchscreen and XLR outputs as well
But the reliability of BOSS is hard to beat.
awesome vid guys :) eating my lunch watching Lee and Pete.....Pete "I love knobs" ...me...spraying my lunch over my keyboard PMSL :P nice to see Boss still in the playground......who else would like to hear a comparison with this and the old individual pedals most guitarists cut their teeth on , like a DD3 ect?
Love Pete’s guitar. Signature Chapman. Very nice
Sounds really good! For sale Boss GT-1, perfect condition. 🙃
Same!
I just sold the biggest pedalboard money can buy on which was a psu, a cry baby, a tuner, seven boss pedals and a looper and who knows how many cables and I bought three of these and I have change. Yeah baby.
So, with this linked to a FRFR speaker, why do I need a Katana? Then, I'd need to decide between this, an IR200 and ME90.
Boss - a legend as usual. I know, it would make a short video :)
Awesome! will get one!
I wonder what studio monitors were used. I do not know what monitors to choose to it.
Wish I always had Pete's energy. My guy is always on a high 😂
New camera? You guys look CRISP
Nice demo guys.😂
Curious on thoughts, taking an amp emulator through an regular amp, you can't be getting the intended emulation?
Example, plugging this into an AC15 and trying to emulate a tweed, what do you end up with?
I just saw them announce this on IG 😂
We are glad someone sees it!
I didn't like a month and a half going back and forth between the gx100 and the gt1000core because the form factor of the core was what I wanted, but I also wanted the expeession pedal and ease of use of the gx100. I've had it for like a month and now I've got to sell it because this is literally what I needed 😅
"6 at once, that sounds like a good party" 😂😂😂. These guys are great. I wish we could see a bit more of the afterjoke hahah. Saludos de España.
Pd: mmm these Boss GX-* devices always sound like "meh" to my ears in the videos. But I never had one, so I can be totally wrong.
6 at once is the definition of sexagon 8:25
@@EvanKenobi 🤟🤣🤟
sounds great... like all modern modelers / profilers do. what a time to be alive... be careful not to get stuck in presets and forget playing. Be it fractal, boss, kemper, neuralDSP, line6... u can make work with all of them at reasonable volume. buy what catches your eye... in the end you have should want to use it. cant go wrong with any nowadays. Cheers
Divvy duo does digital devices! 😂Only kidding guys, I really enjoy you're work!!!
You should have shown the knob-mode by touching the hamburger menu on the top righthand side. That makes it even more easyer to edit effects.
Very nice- I really regret selling my GX-100 however
The hardware for the GT1000 is excellent. Boss just need to continue updating the software. It definitely needs an acoustic amplifier simulator like the one in the Katana gen 2 which is excellent and a couple of really good synth lead sounds!
It has the transparent amp and the acoustic resonance from the BOSS Acoustic Singer amps.
@@AAr0nM Yes I know but it doesn't sound the same when you put an acoustic guitar into it. Better still would be the acoustic sound patch from the synth that makes an electric guitar sound just like an electro acoustic.
The NUX-MG30 has a send and return, but the screen is not tactile, It's also very affordable! Hello from Canada!
