- How to mount a monitor to the DJI Ronin S in the best way. This is the cleanest and most minimalistic way to mount a monitor to the Ronin S. Using the Polar Pro Monitor for the DJI Ronin-S is perfect because it's made of solid metal and even has 3 1/4 20 thread mount holes for accessories like a light or microphone. The SmallRig monitor mount that swivels combined with the DF Digital foto spider mounting ring is another great rig. You can mount the SmallHd Focus or Atomos Ninja V to the Ronin S with either of these setups.

Who is Chadwin Smith? I am an aspiring cinematographer. I love creating videos and showing others how to light and shoot better videos! I also review tech and gear. Based in Arizona, USA - Кино
took me hours to find what you said at 3:46 into this video. thank you for actually saying what you're using by name and not just showing it.
Fransico Isreal hey, glad I could help you find the parts you needed! I try to make it simple and leave the links below when I can. 👍🏻👍🏻
The second way looks SO MUCH BETTER.
frostybe3r yeah, it’s definitely super clean
@@chadwin Not that I can get my damn Ronin to balance...
@@chadwinDo you think that would that work with the Dual Handle Grip?
Alan Hamilton if you center mount the monitor and use dual grips, it would definitely work!
j.,.
Thanks for showing us these tips. I wasn't sure if my monitor (ikan) would flip but after some searching through the menus, I found out how to flip. My monitor doesn't have a side mount so this will do nicely.
awesome, glad you found a way to make it work for your ikan monitor!
Thank you for this video! Exactly what I was looking for. Just bought the Ninja and couldn't have asked for a better video. Thank you for doing this!
That wireless transmitter is huge
Mr. Varhansen 😂 it’s a little big but does the job well.
Tilt arm works wonders. I have the 180 tilt with 360 rotation, works amazing with a monitor.
Max Soto yes. It really is one of my favorite mounts! I haven’t tried the 360
rotation version yet, is it pretty stable and doesn’t spin randomly?
@@chadwin I have the Andycine monitor mount. A cheaper version of the smallrig. Some people say it gets loose. I encountered that but you just have to tighten it the right amount with an allen hex key. And now I have no issues with it loosening. :)

Max Soto very cool. Thanks for sharing that! Andycine makes some great stuff for the price.
Great info! Thank you! I’m so excited to try this out.
Whoa! Thanks for the vid!
I cant figure out which tilt mount to use. I can only find the Smallrig tilt mount with hot shoe (2431) or a tilt&swivel (2904).
thanks so much for helping me out!
hmmm did you check this one out yet? SmallRig Monitor Mount geni.us/MonitorMount that's what I used in the video
Great Review
Brian Totten thank you 👍🏻
Hey buddy, when I connect the monitor cable and record cable from the ronin to the camera I get no signal to the monitor but when I take the usb c cable out of the ronin I get the signal back to the monitor.
trying to find this answer
@@KK47.. Hi there, do you guys already have a solution for this problem?
@@chrisgunnink3920 yes. He camera comes with two cords that look alike. Try the other cable
Hi guys,
What is solution about this problem? ;( i've sony a7iii and Dji Ronin SC
Hey, absolutely love this video but alot of these links are no longer available or being sold. Do you happen to have any update to this?
Will the digitalfoto mount work with the DJI RS3 mini?
Thanks for the video!
Thanks for the tip, great video! but 100 dollars for a bracket.... just a bit overkill....
Word of warning! The setup with the monitor central over the grip doesn't work if you're using a Shinobi, the Ninja V's battery is off center and doesn't block the joystick, the Shinobi's battery is central and blocks it...
Yeah, the off centered Ninja V definitely helps. However, I've actually used this setup with the SmallHD Focus, which has a centered battery and it doesn't get in way of the joystick too much: as long as I use a smaller NPF battery and keep the screen tilted up enough.
@@chadwin Yeah totally, as long as its titled up you can get to it, I'm going to try and find something that can push it out a bit.
Lloyd Aygun yeah, let me know what you come up with, that would be interesting!
@@aygie did you ever find something to push it out?
@@andrewelliott8747 No what I ended up doing was getting the SmallRig 2222 handle as it has stacks of mounting points plus working two handed makes things a lot easier with a heavier rig.
Nice
SRIKANTA ROUT thanks man!
U wel com sir
Can the DF DIGITALFOTO Spider-S Monitor Mount Mounting be attached to the ronin sc
?
I'm looking for a monitor that is ravin eye compatible. I don't want to have wires going from my monitor to the gimbal.
I have that exact same set up as the last one and with a 10 inch monitor. Smallrig rule
That's awesome! And with a big 10" monitor too! You don't find that it gets in the way at all?
@@chadwin Ohh it does, if I need to use the joystick. However, for what Ive been doing lately, I havent had the need to. I should get a smaller monitor to tho but the wish list is a mile long you knw :-D
Ohh one more thing, regarding battery, you can add a "Dummy - Battery Mount Plate Power Charger" to the Ronin and from there charge both the monitor and the camera with one battery mounted to the side of the Ronin. thats how Ive done it anyway. Its pretty neat! :-).
Thomas Windfeld yeah, a smaller monitor would definitely solve the joystick problem-but if it’s working for now-I’m sure it’s fine! And I’ll have to check out that battery solution. I’ve thought about using v-mounts but am mostly worried about the extra weight on my arms.
@@chadwin www.ebay.com/itm/Battery-Mount-Plate-Power-Charger-NP-F970-to-NP-FW50-Fr-Sony-NEX7-A5100-A7S-D009/162558438366?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649
Nice video, however the Ninja is not "V" it is called Ninja 5. The V is a roman numeral for 5. I know it's confusing, but that is what ATOMOS decided to use (NINJA-V is Ninja 5).
Neil Seiffer you’re 100% correct! I just choose to say “V” anyways cause I like the sound of it better than “5” 😂
wowww 🤦♂️ I'm sure he knows that (no offense)
Thanks dude! This is the video I've been waiting for since no one explains how to mount in the center. Question for you: Would the DF Digitalfoto Spider 5 mount you mention also be able to be used with the 2 handlebars that smallrig offers? It is possible to have 2 handbars and monitors set up at the same time?
Cliff Fennell great, glad you finally found what you were looking for! You could probably mount handles on each side since there are threads on both sides. I’d also check out the SmallRig Mounting ring cause I’ve definitely seen people mount dual grips on that. And yes, you could get a monitor on there too with the grips
@@chadwin awesome thanks again!
Hi nice video, please suggest can I mount feelworld monitor with second option along with DJI dual handle?
Alok Joshi yes, you should be able to do that. Just be aware that if you center mount the monitor, the back NPF battery may hit your hand when using the joystick
Also, don't forget install a piano, 40" tv and two brick.😂
I was actually thinking a keytar...haha!
Really cool setup. I just wish you filmed it a little brighter. With nearly every component jet black, it is hard to see.
What about 360 mode? Wouldn’t the cables get twisted if I go into 360 mode with the Ronin S? Is there a wireless monitor out there somewhere?
yeah, the cable will definitely get all twisted up in 360 mode! you could run one of the wireless transmitters the DJI makes for sure.
dude i have one question did we can connect mobile phone as a monitor ? if we can do how do ?
Thanks Chad for this video! Question for you, with set-up # 2, if you still need to mount a shotgun mic, would you just mount it to top of camera?
Rex Ryan Productions yeah, thanks for watching! For that setup, if I needed a shotgun mic, I would probably use a small short articulating arm, attach it to the ring and then put the mic on the end. I don’t like using arms, but if you’ve gotta! I don’t ever put a mic on a camera when using a Gimbal cause it’s difficult to balance and gets in the way too much when doing tilts and low mode
@@chadwin You're the man! Many thanks :)
HI
is this cable connected to the ninja V tested and does it not give any problems during the working day?
could you tell me the name?
it is important to have a soft cable with the right length.
Thank you
Will the clamp work for the DJI RS3?
Sadly no. But they make new mount rings now for the RS3 from a few companies
Is it any other monitor I can mount to the back like you did the last set up ??
Can I use the 7 inch small hd focus monitor on this setup?
polar pro mount isnt available anywhere
Just wonder why dedicated external camera monitors/recorders have ports on the right side while cameras have inputs/outputs on the left?
Could you put monitor so it has inputs on the same side as camera? and maybe flip the screen upsidedown inside monitor as you can do in mobile phones?
I don't own monitor, that's why I'm asking..
Nice Cat yes, you can actually easily flip the Ninja V or SmallHD. I often mount them upside down and then they flip automatically in the software or I can go in and change it myself. You can also easily mount the monitor on either side of the Ronin.
@@chadwin Thanks!
Will this setup work with a 7 inch monitor?
how about low mode or underslung mode?
Makes it harder to see the screen of course, but you can tilt or flip it around if needed
sueper good video dude, Ive been debating how I want it to be setup too because I want it all centered. Right now I have the smallrig side bracket that attachs to that monitor holder that holds myninja v , its ok but I think ill like the Collar method better because its all centered ect, I already own that monitor mount too. Only downside imo is it might be hard to see it during underslung shots? Im apick up one soon
Jason Lindquist yeah. Having it all centered is so nice and it looks so clean and simplistic. I’d recommend getting the SmallRig mount that rotates in full 360 then, cause when you go underslung mode you can quickly flip it around. It sounds like you already have most of the parts you need.
Chadwin Smith ya I jus need the collar I think can you link me the other part that rotates or is it in the description ?
Jason Lindquist you know what, I was just looking and I don’t think the rotating SmallRig part would work actually for mounting. I’ll look for other options, but for now may have to use the non swivel version.
@@chadwin www.adorama.com/srbse2294.html?
you don't think this would work?
@@derusevideo1967 Did you ever try that swivel version of the monitor mount for underslung shots? Thanks!
will this fit the new dji RS3?
Thanks for making this video! :) Would I be able to use the smallrig ring mount instead of the df digital one?
TAMCAM MEDIA yes, you definitely can use the SmallRig version and use any 5” monitor with it. Doesn’t have to be the SmallHD or Atomos
@@chadwin Perfect. Thank you!
Great video! Will that specific HDMI cable work with the panasonic GH5?
Anthony Wright the GH5 has a full size HMDI out, so it just depend on what your monitor input takes. If it takes micro hmdi, yes. If not, you’ll need a full size to full size hdmi cable
@@chadwin The monitor I use is the Ninja V
Anthony Wright gotcha. You’ll need both sides full size HDMI then.
Maybe a silly question but why does no one use a small rig cage with monitor on top , then mount / balance that ?
- if you’re doing normal type camera moves and not going low or vortex mode etc.
honestly, it's really difficult to balance the camera because it becomes very top heavy and awkward with a monitor on top. it's possible, but I wouldn't recommend it even if your gimbal can handle the weight.
@@chadwin thanks yeah I get that . Maybe once we get super slim & light OLED monitors it will be possible
Can you share a name/code of the medium NPF battery which you using with second way?
Well the second way what monitors can you use for that ??
where is the link to order?
All the gear links are right in the description. If there’s one specifically you’re looking for, lemme know!
Thank you, been looking for hours for the piece and mounting setup you used at 3:46, could I use the second setup with a Freeworld Lut7 monitor?
TWON PRODUCTIONS yes you could definitely use the setup with those monitors, but just be aware that if the battery is centered on your monitor, it may hit your finger when on the thumb stick. It works much better with an offset battery like the Ninja V has
Hello Mate, nice video just a quick question for you does your monitor works when you plug in the mcc cable to both camera and ronin? When I do so my monitor just turns black and as soon as I plug it off it turns back on. Which means I can not access my focus wheel and I have my monitor setup which is really annoying. Did you have the same pb?
GS Remi I have heard a couple other people have the same issue. Unfortunately it’s a limitation of using the MCC cable and hdmi. I haven’t seen a workaround yet
will this work with a Shogun?
the shogun will probably be too big and in the way honestly.
So that thin little HDMI, what kind of resolution does it max out at? I bought the NinjaV so I could shoot 10 bit 422 ALLI, I want the ronin s, but what the hell kind of cable am I gonna need?
Would the Small Rig mount fit into the Ronin S case, or would you have to remove it?
Aaron DeWitt unfortunately no...you have to take it off. Heck you can’t even put the Ronin s back in its case once it’s been balanced, very annoying. Haha
Can you please tell me which swivel small rig mount you used? Link?
Great video. Do you think the second option will work equally as well with the Ronin SC?
Apologies. Saw the comment below. I'll go check compatibility...
Any update on this? Haven’t been able to find if the Ronin S & SC have similar neck dimension.
to bad there was not a lower power plug in on the ronin to power the monitor.
Hey have you have any problems when you hook up the DJI to your camera so you can control the record button on the camera and have your monitor hook up to
hood2hoodrec I haven’t been able to get remote start/stop recording to work with any of my camera and the Ronin S actually. All the ways I’ve tried haven’t worked for some reason....sorry
Does the #2 option swivel at all?
Tricklarock nope. Option #2 doesn’t swivel, only Tilts up and down. Personally I hate things on a swivel cause they usually swivel and move when I don’t want them to
I couldn't find that DF Spider S Mount you used for the 2nd setup. Can I just order a Smallrig clamp for Ronin-S to achieve same result? Thanks
Never mind bro, went with da Polar Pro ;)
Can you control the REC with Gimbal and use a Monitor in the same time?
yes, you should be able to do that since it uses different ports.
Hi can we use these set up with small rig wooden handle?
Alok Joshi yeah, you could add a wooden handle to the side of the gimbal for sure
@@chadwin Thanks
Does the 360 mode work with the cables or does that cause issues?
Unrelated question: I’ve been using the Ninja V for my RUclips videos for a while now but I’ve noticed that it has been eating the memory on the Samsung SSD that I use when I store the files recorded using the Ninja V. I always shoot Sony a73 on an SD card 4K video and I’ve never noticed disk space going so fast as when I started using the Ninja V. Is there a setting I might be missing here?
Family of Tech well, anytime you record externally via the Ninja V it takes up a lot more space. I usually record in Pro Res light if I can cause it takes the least space. Are you also recording to your SD card internally on the a7iii though? Cause that would be redundant and take up twice the space.
Chadwin Smith would it take more space on the angelbird SSD as well? Even though one is recording on the SSD and the other internally? Sometimes I record in both because I get concerned I might loose footage if the Ninja doesn’t record or malfunctions or the cable gets loose or something.
Family of Tech the camera has a completely different codec and compression than the Atomos. So the Atomos is always going to take more space because it’s not as compressed as the internal camera recording. I think it’s smart to record dual for safety purposes, but once you know you have it backed up, I’d delete the redundant footage so it doesn’t waste hard drive space
Can i use 2nd setup for ronin rsc2?
hey man, one question.. is that mount ring compatible with the ronin SC? or would it be bigger?
Awlux I haven’t actually tried it yet. I’d just look at the product description to see if they have any the also fit the ronin SC
Chadwin, where did you get the long focus smallhd micro hdmi to micro hdmi?
here's a 3ft micro to micro HDMI cable you can get directly from SmallHD. store.smallhd.com/store/focus-accessories/FOCUS-HDMI-Micro-3ft-Cable
Hi Smith, this mounting ring work with the Ronin RS2? Thanks in advance.
no. its only made for original ronin but i believe they've made new ones for RS2
What wireless transmitter do you use? 3:00
I'm using the Hollyland Cosmo 600. Works fantastic! ruclips.net/video/jo1yBZ8b_TU/видео.html
What about mounting a monitor to a glidecam. What accecceries do I need.
Many Thanks
That's a good question. It all depends on the camera, and where you want to mount the monitor exactly. I'd probably try to mount the monitor low and directly behind the camera so you can see it easy and it's not on top of the camera which makes it hard to balance. If you have a cage and the smallrig monitor mount, you could easily do this.
Any idea if this works with ronin Sc?
Shane Kirby I believe the top portion of it is the same size so it should fit. BUT I’d check the website listing first to see if they’ve updated it to show compatibility for the SC.
Any update on this? 🤔😁 This looks like the perfect mounting solution but 5 months later and still no word if it fits Ronin SC!
hi
with the gimbal do you let the video camera stabilize?
Yes. I have IBIS and lens stabilization on if the lens has it. I've never had any issues using all of them together.
Will this method work on the DJI RS2?
I think it will work fine, because RS2 has the same side mounting areas. Make sure you read compatibility section of the gear you're buying to be sure.
