Congratulations Barrry, me and brazilians liked your video for your good willingness, sympathy and detailed descriptions about these candies. I come from another video, where some americans taste brazilian candies without no ideia about nothing, thinking Brazil is a spanish-speaker country, no quality samples, too much nausea or preconception. You are like an open mind guy and also cool, respectful... people recognized that. Nice video, best regards, from Brazil.
The choquito wasn't supposed to look like that. Whenever chocolate melts and get back to it's original shape, it usually leaves suggar crystals outside, which gives it that white appearance.
Omg, I could never have that many brazilian candies at once.. You are very brave! I'm a Brazilian vlogger and just found out about your channel! Very good job.
Very Nice channel! Thanks so much for love our sweets!
I didnt read all the comments, but in any case, I will try to explain the cheese that the people have told you. The Romeo and Juliet usually takes one kind of "goiabada" that is softer than the one you have tasted, so your dont need to bite like that. And the cheese, the one we call "queijo de Minas" is soft too, and tastes more like light cream cheese, but even with less flavor than that. It would be like a mild, kinda salty yoghurt. It dont have the strong taste that you probably experienced and it melts in your mouth.
I don't know about the other parts of Brazil, but in São Paulo, we eat goiabada with a unsalted cheese we like to call queijo mineiro, or queijo branco. So there's no fight, the tastes don't compete, they work together beautifully!
Here in Brazil we have a "ritual" when it comes to Tortuguita. If you don't eat the head, arms and legs first, you aren't trustworthy. Just because you did that, i'm gonna like and subscribe! haha
omg, I am Brazilian and I am so happy you made a video like this talking about Brazil and our food and I like so much of you you're so happy every time
That video was really nice to watch! I'm Brazilian and it's funny to see an American's reaction to our food... I've always watched Brazilian's reaction to other countries' food, not the other way around and I really had some fun now... Thumbs up!!!
"ç" actually has the "s" sound.. so: paçoca = passoca, moça = mossa, "sensação" = senssasaum, not "cow" hahaha, ect. And "pé de moleque" really means boy's foot. Hahah About the wrapper on "sonho de valsa" it's because we have many types of this sweet, like "serenata de amor" (google it), but the wrapper isn't glued, the only one glued is sonho de valsa, and this changed recently, so.. OMG, I'd never realized those sweets only exist here, and I can't imagine a world without most of them :D You MUST also taste brigadeiro and pão de queijo!
OMG! I loved this video. BTW, those cheese crispies are not supposed to be eaten with the guava. Romeo and Juliet are guava and a very specific brazilian cheese, wich is very soft. Or you can change and eat the guava candy with cream cheese. Amazing video!!!! Congrats from Brazil.
Barry Lewis Can I just try to explain how do you say "paçoca"? 'Cause I was laughing so hard watching the video my mom thought I was going crazy. It's like "pah-soh-ka" (or "pah-ssoh-kah", don't how to explain better). The same goes for "moça". The "Ç" has the sound s in "sound" ;) Anyway, great video! I'm from the same place as Beatriz (Bahia) and I can assure you: you've had the time of your life! Best treats ever! : D
probably you would find something funny also seeing someone speaking your language fluently kkk, we aren't criticizing, darling, just comments, we think this is cool and funny, I for exemple felt privileged kkk (im sorry if i say something wrong, english isnt my official language)
+Chandler Frantz Brazilian people are not as critical as some ''gringos'' are sometimes. When a person say something wrong in portuguese we amused, and try to teach the right way to pronunciate or write it. We don't criticize a person who doesn't have our language as their native language like you are doing.
Barry Lewis Loved your videos, expressions, dancing, honesty and how you make tasting other country's food fun! The Biscoito de Polvilho, like Ana said, has NO cheese on the original version, BUT the version that Beatriz send you had a big "QUEIJO" written on it, so it means that indeed is cheese flavored! Polvilho is made of Manioc, which is a Brazilian root - kindda like a potato and the main native-brazilian's food (and because of it's unique taste it's actually used to make "VEGAN cheese-like" tastes in food). A lot of the sweets that you ate are supposed to be eatten in veeeerry small peaces after meals. All the sugar covers are probably a culture thing because we produce and sell sugar all over the world since forever! Unfortunately you missed out a lot of traditional brazilian middle afternoon food because most of them are cooked by grandmothers everyday and not suitable for plane travels! ( like pão-de-queijo, brigadeiro). Fortunatly, Brasil still have a lot of eating fresh-prepared meals culture - even in the crazinest that our modern way of life demands of us. A fun thing would be to send you the ingredients and the recipe and you upload the making and the eating! The Romeo actually should be a very white and light version of cheese (that we have traditionally around here) and not the yellow one that you tasted the guava-sweet with. In Brazil you'll find lighter cheeses mostly - probably because it's so hot you dont want to eat a dutch strong kind of cheese! All the sweets that Beatriz send you were everycorner kindda sweets, very popular and cheap to buy ( except perhaps the Talento one). Sonho de Valsa, for example, can be bought at U$0,25 cents a unit. You would love to came to Brazil if you really enjoy eating a lot of fruit! Maybe the thing that i miss the MOST when i went to Europe and USA is that is SO hard you find good tasting fruit ( most taste like styrofoam and impossible to find fresh-squizzed fruit juice ( especially in the USA). Love to see more from you! Bye!
Barry Lewis Haha, there's no cheese on it (unless it says clearly artificial cheese flavor on the package)... Biscoito de Polvilho is just a Cassava starch cookies. It must me extremely crunchy and while you eat it it must make a mess all over the place with its powder. If not it's old and disgusting.
U r cool, man ;D Thanks for don't mess with our food and do a good video. Nice work, I appreciate that. Hugs from Brasil. Just a little tip for u, when u going to read this letter Ç u read like an S. haha like Passoca (paçoca) All good for for u bro.
Oh boy! hahahah At least half aren't that "good", hahahah I mean: quality wise. Unfortunately, Brazilian candies (with chocolate) lack quality in general. (Cocada and Goiabada are amazing!) Chokito was "white" 'cause fat bloom, the fat migrated to the surface. Temperature variations causes it.
It is very good that you guys liked so much our snacks from here, some of them are made of our typical fruits, and we feel glad with this well and energy made critic!
These snacks are so common to me that I didn't even realise how stereotypical they are: a turtle-shaped chocolate snack, a chocolate bar named after a football player... I'm not saying it's a bad thing in any way though. It's just funny to see from a foreigner point of view how these snacks scream the stereotypes of Brazil so loudly. I'm not gonna pretend I'm an expert in Brazilian snacks (I haven't even heard of some of these), but I think the Romeo & Juliet thing isn't made with any kind of cheese, but rather Minas Cheese, a Brazilian type of Cheese. And from those snacks you had, my favourite ones are Passatempo, Tortuguita, Sonho de Valsa and Biscoito de Polvilho. Great video
Bananhinas are sooooo goooood. I was on Brazil for my bastions two years ago and I brought home with me 4 bags of those candies because I loved them so much
Barry Lewis I have to say that you tried the guava candy with the wrong cheese! the cheese is called "queijo branco" here in brazil, it's sort of a white clored cheese that tastes a lot different than usual yellow cheese
In the US we aren't very slab-happy (but a good piece of Milwaukee fudge or a New Orleans praline is something to SAVOR), and to be completely honest, sugary slabs of things are my favorite. The closest thing I can get texturally on a daily basis is a Clif Bar. This pretty much made me foodgasm.
Just an advice. Everytime you see a "Ç", a letter "C" with a mark under it you should read with an "S" sound. Imagine there is an S and read "Passoca" or "Sensasaum". ;)
The cheese of Romeo and Juliet is a brazilian cheese called Queijo Minas. In my opinião is the only cheese that taste good with goiabada. I really enjoyed watching this video. The way you pronounce some things were really funny. You definitely should taste other brazilian snacks. There are so many good of them around here.
Vai ver as guloseimas Americanas, acho q a nossa é fichinha... u.u
I know that this video is a little old, but I had to say one thing. I am really happy about how you "respect" a different culture. I am brazilian and all videos of people trying food from outside their own country, they simply act like its some weird thrash stuff.. And I am really happy with the way you act. Nice video!
Man! You did the ritual! Eating the head, arms, "legs" and the tail first than the rest, is part of a common "ritual" that everybody here in Brazil does when eating Tortuguita! That was amazing.
***** No, just the "curado" Minas' cheese is hard. The "frescal" Minas' cheese is reaaally soft and wet! And that's the one we eat with the Guava candy in Minas Gerais!
oooh no, wrong cheese with the goiabada. sorry for that, mate hahah the right one, just for information, should be the one from Minas Gerais (quite of a distinguished kind of cheese)
Loved this video! Besides being sooooo funny, you clearly strip off from any prejudice when tasting our candy, nor do you have any misconception about our culture (such as assuming we speak Spanish 😒). Congratulations!
Great video, Barry! As a brazillian, I would like to thank you for all your kindness when speaking about us and our "popular treats". And FYI, the Chokito shouldn't look like that way. It should look like a chocolate brown. I guess it got exposed to the sun heat, for example, and may have gotten that "faded" color you showed us on the video. But I figure it tasted great, and that's what counts! All the best for you.
Congratulations Barrry, me and brazilians liked your video for your good willingness, sympathy and detailed descriptions about these candies.
I was on Brazil for my bastions two years ago and I brought home with me 4 bags of those candies because I loved them so much
Man, you made the Tortuguita's ritual! First the head, then the legs and for last the body! You ate it in the right way! HAHAHA
I absolutely LOVE guava!
Cool! I had a guava drink recently which was nice
Oh, and also, the chocolate on the Chokito bloomed. It's not unsafe, just slightly old.
Grace Sophia yeah it probably took so long to get to him :( looks awful but I'm sure it still tastes amazing.
You should try to eat an Acarajé. It's a african-brazilian food, really popular on the state of Bahia.
Only that I love to see Americans trying / pronounce the Portuguese?
EvilSecrete SpySpider Nossa, brother. Vc escreveu errado em ambos idiomas.
Pacoca 😂😂😂😂😂
Just an advice. Everytime you see a "Ç", a letter "C" with a mark under it you should read with an "S" sound. Imagine there is an S and read "Passoca" or "Sensasaum". ;)
I love your description about our treats!
Regards from Sao Paulo, Brazil!
kkkkkkkkkkk amei!!!!!!!!!! I loved it Barry!! Love from Brazil
:)
sense a cow, rachei o bico!
Mooooo sense a cow
The cheese of Romeo and Juliet is a brazilian cheese called Queijo Minas. In my opinião is the only cheese that taste good with goiabada.
I really enjoyed watching this video. The way you pronounce some things were really funny. You definitely should taste other brazilian snacks. There are so many good of them around here.
Good info thanks
Congrats man first person to decently react to our Brazilian food without too much drama. You earned my like and subscription! :)
He did the Tortuguita Ritual ! kkkkk ' *-*
hahahaha, someone need to teach him the sound of "ç" hahahaha, great vid
When I watch this kind of videos I realize that we (brazilians) eat a lot of sugar! OMG!
That's really sad :(
It's not good for anyone's health

Vai ver as guloseimas Americanas, acho q a nossa é fichinha... u.u
I know that this video is a little old, but I had to say one thing. I am really happy about how you "respect" a different culture. I am brazilian and all videos of people trying food from outside their own country, they simply act like its some weird thrash stuff.. And I am really happy with the way you act. Nice video!
Esse cara é bem animadão! Hahahah e fez o ritual da tortuguita direitinho 👍👍👍
No guarána Antartica?
No brazillian treats is complete without the Guarana antartica!!!
+Eliot, the Owl What about dolly my man?
Tojogandochapado That too!
And it lacks Rapadura too.
+Eliot, the Owl, Dollynho is our little friend...
+Eliot, the Owl Dolly Guaraná the better,Dolly guaraná the brazilian sabor

It's funny how you were saying that "Sensação" was sensational saying that sensação means sensational haha

Man! You did the ritual! Eating the head, arms, "legs" and the tail first than the rest, is part of a common "ritual" that everybody here in Brazil does when eating Tortuguita! That was amazing.
it's funny when he pronounces the ''Ç'' sound... :)
Tehee~ To make a good Romeo and Juliet, you gotta combine it with a fresh white cheese.
YOU CANT EAT TORTUGUITA LIKE THIS!!! NONO NONONONO YOU HAVE TO EAT FIRST THE HEAD AND THE LEGS
gomastic he did
That's true! hahaahha It's like a ritual. Head first, then the legs, and finnaly the body hahaha
True! LOL
your romeo and juliet was all wrong. You need to have it with white cheese... from minas. It´totally different.
Oh no!
Barry Lewis (Paçoca) this letter "Ç" (Cecidilha) has same sound "S". It would be like "Pasoca".
***** No, just the "curado" Minas' cheese is hard. The "frescal" Minas' cheese is reaaally soft and wet! And that's the one we eat with the Guava candy in Minas Gerais!
Hyotheangel And not that kind of guabo too.
I'm brazilian and I don't like most of these, but you made me wanna taste them once again. OMG.
Sense a cow 😂 😂 😂 you're actually supposed to pronounce the "ç" with a "ss" sound!
Muchhh love from Brazil
Sorry about that my English clumsiness
you should try our beers...hehehe

Aquelas cervejas de posto sem nome uheuheuheuhe
oooh no, wrong cheese with the goiabada. sorry for that, mate hahah the right one, just for information, should be the one from Minas Gerais (quite of a distinguished kind of cheese)
Loved this video! Besides being sooooo funny, you clearly strip off from any prejudice when tasting our candy, nor do you have any misconception about our culture (such as assuming we speak Spanish 😒). Congratulations!

Sim, o queijo minas deixa bem melhor!!
Barry I'm like you ! I could eat melted cheese anyday of the week, on its own no thanks not even grated ! I'm not alone !!
I'm the same
Great video, Barry!
