+Triumphcarnut I love your comment. *already dead*. Romans 6:23 kjv for the wages of sin is death but the gift of God is eternal life. We are born into the wages of sin so therefore we are dead and then resurected to having eternal life to those who are saved. I mentioned that while preaching the other day

This is a great arrangement. Most of the renditions out there are in a major key. The minor key here adds to the solemnity and reverence. I would love to know where I can find this version so that we can do it in my choir.

I am an ELCA Lutheran from South Carolina. I play the piano and organ. Today (February 21, Lent 2), I filled in at a local Lutheran Church. I played this as the Closing Hymn. However, it was to the tune, MARTYRDOM, composed by Hugh Wilson. It is #337 in Evangelical Lutheran Worship.

@Jambeeno ONLY THE Jews considered it a cult because it was new and out of there normal standards or conditions of serving God. But Jesus came to pass the Law of Grace and Mercy. Many of Jesus's prophesies have already come to past which proves his existence even after his death.

This is lovely - the music and the singers. I am not familiar with the tune. Per comment of another member I ordered Great Songs of the Church, but was disappointed to find the hymn there is the traditional Martyrdom tune, not this one. I would like to know how to find the music to this tune.

@sadeswaggsitout this is untrue. It might help to check out the definition of "cult" at the Merriam-Webster dictionary.
Christianity currently is and historically was a cult in many distinct senses of the word. Romans thought it was a cult, Zoroastrian Persians thought it was a cult, early Muslim Arabs and Persians thought it was a cult, various Scandinavians, Eastern Europeans and Western Asians thought it was a cult... because it WAS a cult. It was a new, unorthodox religion.

@checkitall1 whether Christianity was new at the dawn of Islam has nothing to do with whether Muslims thought Christians cultists who were better off assimilated or culturally marginalized. Check your ad hominem tendencies before posting more comments.

@lordgracie Actually, Christians do not worship a demonic god. We worship the true God. You also seem to mix up Satan and the Living God that we worship. They are actually different. Also, it is not fair to say that Christians make 'ancient' sacrifices. The sacrifice was made on the cross, a long time ago, once and for all. I encourage you to look into these things more carefully. Read the prophesies and the gospels. I would love to reason with you. God bless.

@jangaley We'd disagree about the meaning of the word "apparently." ;)
Christian tribulations aren't unique; history overflows with accounts of religious persecution. Christianity is certainly the largest religion; if you want to argue that ubiquity evinces worthiness, you're free to. However, I don't think just because ideas are tenacious it means that they're worthy.

Israel is a nation, a people-culture-heritage. Nations endure even if states come and go. Think of Poland, which disappeared off the map as a state more than once, or of Palestine, which never existed as an independent state but as a national identity. Israel is a TINY sliver of land, 1/7 the size of Florida. It should be noted that the Arabs who claim ownership to the land, they themselves have 22 countries which are about 640 times the size of Israel.

So a radical Jew was brutally executed circa 30 CE, therefore you have a chance at eternity in heaven? And the symbol of your group is the hideous torture device upon which he died? How horribly macabre.
fwiw I'm an atheist and I found this hauntingly beautiful; they're very good vocalists! If the lyrics didn't strike me as monumentally silly I'd get a lot more out of it.
