Great work guys! I'm sure you know but you can get a smaller sheet metal brake for really cheap. 1 more thing I've found is if you are bending without a brake, scoring the back of the bend with a blade or cutoff wheel (lightly) helps it bend more "crisp". Solid work!
Looks awesome! One thing that might help is to weld in about 2" sections and cool the welds and the nearby heat affected area around the weld with compressed air. Definitely more time consuming but well worth it so nothing warps. Did that a lot when I used to work on hot rods.
We were actually doing small sections 1-2in sections, not the compressed air though that sounds like a good idea. The amount the panel warps was the only complaint I had with this project!
For stuff like this on some of the builds we've done instead of using a whole thing of dynamat, we will cut it into strips and make an X. Makes a huge difference. Another cool thing that we have done is use the method of flocking.
On the brush aluminum look it comes out better when ever u hand sand it one direction in my opinion. Also u might want to try polishing or clear coating. If u bevel ur pieces u can avoid less grinding. Great video keep up the good work God bless
They may not be perfect, but that’s how you learn. You will notice all the imperfections but people who weren’t there when it was made will never see them all. The panels are still cool custom and very trick, and that’s what they will see. For the future, the solution is to use a thicker gauge panel and to attach the cup holder and armrests from the back side with weld tabs or screws as you prefer.
question on the solid works software. I have access to the whole solidworks package but I will only intend on using the software to design pieces like you have, roll cages or whatever. My question is, which of the solidworks sofwares should I install? *I've never used any CAD software so any tips on what software to use would be appreciated. Thanks.
The only thing I would have changed is add some bead roll within the flat panel area of the panel. It would have prevented the warping, or at least limit it.
@@cencoast_7.340 just the edge, not the centre of the panel, even the door panel he took off had pleats in the "fabric" where he should have bead rolled it, from front to rear
@@WingsWorldChannel oh yeah I spent years trying different machines to you and get aluminum the stick together in about a year ago I finally found a machine I was happy with and it's nice to be able to do everything from my own radiators to panels and more. Paying somebody else to do it was expensive at an average of $100 an hour
4K definately a better set up. You could use a drain hole in the drink mount as water/dust etc will get in there. as you have an arm rest shouldn't it have some way of grabbing it like the original unless you are going to use a strap to pull the door shut, apart from this a good job. When seam welding you will get warpage no matter what matierial you are welding better to do stich=tch welding .
Thank you! The cup holder has a drain port, however if I ever need to I can pull the cup holder out and clean it. I never used the arm rest to close the doors before, I usually just pull on the door handle.
Looks great! But I don't think I'd consider aluminum welding, bead rolling, and CAD "ordinary tools" lol
Yeah, click bait
Definitely want to see more solidworks videos👍🏻
Definitely would love to learn and see more solid works...great video guys.
Heck yah! Jerry's looking good!!
Keep recording in 4k for sure. Keep up the great work.
Do more things to the vw I'm getting one and you guys put alot of detail into your videos and it helps alot

I have never thought about that, I will give it a try!
Wings World For sure...also, since the panels are painted you can Bondo the imperfections
That method will cause cracks.
Mark Jones Been doing it for many years with zero cracks. Not sure how you are doing it.
@@cencoast_7.340 I fab aircraft parts. In a structural application, scoring aluminum weakens that area.
Good job.

You finna hide the stash under the cup holders 👀👀👀
Aluminum is a pain! Cheers for getting at it. They look awesome installed.
Suh dudes...hope all is well, haven't seen a new video in a while, great work as always.
Thinking about running these. How do they sound? Feel like it would be terrible for a sound system.
Oh yeah and I always keep some Dynamat on hand in case I'm pulling door panels, carpet, headliner etc. May as well do it up!

Definitely just need a few pieces here and there. Have done it completely solid vs. pieces and it works almost the same.

What program is that??
I’m working with a program called sharp3d for the iPad Pro it’s pretty sweet more solidworks stuff.

clean
What happened to the bug?

He did bead roll it, right...

Why didn't you bolt them on that way the panel wouldn't have warped they look pretty good for the first time
Panels look good. Aluminum can be a pain sometimes.
Definitely is a learning curve, not a fan of warping.
