i 100% agree. i'm sick to death of generic medieval high-fantasy; especially because it just reinforces how many aesthetic and cultural touchpoints there are in history to reference in fantasy, but people just want to rehash chainmail and princesses the same way for the 9999th time. FF is at its best when they flex their uniqueness in setting, art style, and direction, and it's been sad to watch it follow the lifeless trajectory of the games industry as a whole, going from gorgeous, sprawling, unique worlds like 7, 8, and 9, to a boring, generic fantasy narrative with boring, generic world, and boring, generic AAA graphics.
@@999a0s Final Fantasy 14 has done wonders of bringing back that FF vibe that seemed lost after the PS1 era. I started playing it just because of all the references to the other mainline games and to share with friends that were already playing, but then found myself completely absorbed by the game world and plot, it has arguably the best setting and plot development so far in the series (everything ends up being VERY coherent and cohesive, all the character motivations, their development, their actions and consequences thereof, are extremely well written, big moments truly feel emotional and give you a sense that your character and NPC friends - your party, essentially, from a story perspective - are having increasingly meaningful impact on the world, plus there's so many well-thought plot twists its absurd), on par with masterpieces like the PS1 games (for some in the community. For me, it's even better!). There's even a version of Ivalice in-game (as a region of a larger world), which is surprisingly respectful of the lore that is taken from FF Tactics and FF12.
The setting is also so different, like, remove the plot point surrounding Lucavis, and all you get is a succession war for power between two political forces, and a clergy that manipulated them. It is very grounded in reality, in comparison to other entries in the series. The "closest" plots we got to reality in the main games were environmental activism with 7 and mercenaries in 8. And we all know it's not what the games plots were about in the end. The point being : if you're going for a very different kind of story, you have to have a very reflective musical style for it. Hence a new composer
@@Anaklusmos42That being said, and i precise that i very much agree with all your previous point, im pretty sure Nobuo have the necessary talent to put up to the task. One of the greatest settings in any videogame, Matsuno's worldbuilding and storytelling, Akihiko Yoshida's art, and of course, Sakimoto's music. Everything comes together so well to create this incredible world, wish Square could go back to Ivalice
I was looking back not long ago and realised that all of the Ivalice Alliance games came out around 2006-9 and we've never been back since. War of the Lions was also in that period, it's astonishing how well that era of games have aged in the general discourse of Square Enix as well!
You want to know why ivalice is the best world of any final fantasy? Because the music express exactly the vibe of the world. Even there are great Nobuo Uematsu Final fantasy tracks (like FF 7 aerith or tifa´s song, bombing mission, prelude or the main theme), the overall music of this games are more coherent from start to finish
The esper battle song is a banger, it’s not included here but check it out, it’s not a fast song but it’s relentless and captures the spectacle perfectly
Vagrant Story will always be a masterpiece to me, loved every moment. Man I miss being a kid playing these old games 😢 still playing FF12 at the moment, haven't completed it yet. Very similar to Vagrant Story
I'd love to see a true sequel to Vagrant Story as it's easily one of my top 10 video games of all time. But it's highly unlikely given that VS apparently sold very poorly despite the game's generally positive reviews when it was first released. Which is sad as the world of VS is so dang atmospheric and intriguing, with its awesome localization, comic book style cut scenes, and twisting narrative.
Because these games are very old, few people know about them, few people remember about them, especially about Vagrant Story. By the way, does anyone else remember the Light Crusader? There's a great soundtrack too.

Ivalice is my favorite setting by far. The art direction along with the music makes me feel at home and at peace, such a comfortable, nostalgic place. The subtle technology use and society structure of the world are awesome too.
This is still the most incredible music I've ever heard... The composition of this music with the art is so heartwarming to my soul. Thank you so much for making this.
Vagrant Story as I remember was a pretty difficult game, I'm currently doing a playthrough of FFT currently and hopefully I'll keep the momentum into Vagrant Story. Just need to wrap up all the tavern errands, finish leveling up a couple unique characters, and want to take a crack at some of the Rendezvous missions for some of the exclusive loot and I'll have wrapped that up.

"I Give You My Word" is a woefully underappreciated track. .....Actually I think it'd be more appropriate to point out that Hitoshi Sakimoto is a woefully underappreciated composer! I mean, yes, he really sticks to his safe-zone (comprised of fast flutes and fast strings, or intense horns) more than he should, but he truly has composed some woefully intense pieces of music, 'Antipyretic' being arguably the most emotionally-charged Boss Theme (so to speak) of the entire FF trademark!

It's hilarious how the programmers sneaked that line emphasis in. I found it odd until I learned much later how Japanese programmers are worked like dogs finishing a game with low compensation.
My heart beats in Ivalice as the wind rustles across the Mandalia Plains, and my tears fall as rain in the Lenalian Plateau for a woman who stood up against injustice until her final breath.
Only 20 songs from FFT? I could swear there are many more, upwards of 40, if I remember correctly. Glad to see it in the mix, regardless. Thanks for this video!
Vagrant Story is by far one of my favorite games of all times, the setting, the story, the characters, the ambience, the magic effects! Everything is so good. I own hard copy and digital copy on every platform. It's just so good, I still play it from time to time. I don't know why but that game just can keep me for hours and hours, the workshops are so nice, the only thing I wish it had more is visible armor differences and more gems and grips.
That first bit of art...I can't help but be reminded of FF14's Ivalice raids, which were based around a theater troupe writing a play about the Zodiac Braves.
A little less than 100 years after FFXII, there was a terrible cataclysm that killed off many non-human races. The War of the Lions takes place about 1300 years after FFXII. Best as I can calculate, Vagrant Story takes place "several hundred years" after the War of the Lions, and with Mullenkamp's birthdate possibly just before FFXII, I place Vagrant Story roughly 1600-2000 years after FFXII. Personally I lean towards the upper end of that, around 1900 years.
WHAT!? VAGRANT STORY IS PART OF IVALICE!? EDIT: That "Church Unreleased" piece for FFT makes me wonder what they would've played that for. Perhaps there was a script ending in which Ramza actually does die before becoming the hero.
More than likely it would have been used in place of Pray, the track in the beginning in that church. Could have also just been a rejected level or something.
Yes and no. Vagrant story wasn’t initially meant to be part of Ivalice explicitly. There were a few small FFT references in VS. A small mention of Delita (not by name but by his exploits), and a quote from Arazlam. However, it was never supposed to be a concrete tie in. FF12 changed that though by incorporating a lot of Vagrant Story lore into the setting essentially placing VS in Ivalice. Theoretically, the setting of VS exists northwest of Rabanstre on the western coast of the northern continent, west of the empire’s main city.
@@SchlossRitter It’s honestly all just speculation since they don’t have any concrete whereabouts for Lea Monde or the exact time post FFT that Vagrant Story is supposed to take place. The only thing we know is that Lea Monde was by the sea on the western part of some continent, that it had existed for 4000 years, and that Vagrant Story takes place at least 400 years after FFT (FFT is roughly 1200 years after FF12). So it’s very likely Lea Monde was already an ancient city even in the “ancient times” of FF12. A parallel universe version of everything related to FFT, FF12, and Vagrant Story also exists in FF14. Some things concretely like Rabanstre while others mentioned in some in game lore text. I forgot where but they mention Ashley and Lea Monde. By parallel universe I mean Basch and Gabaranth are father and son in FF14 instead of brothers, that type of thing.
The Ivalice is the best Final Fantasy world/setting for me

I swear one day I just want to go to an event and meet all the final fantasy game fans out there and pick your brains and learn from you all
Never played vagrant story. Worth trying?
I love Tactics, a game I always go back and play every few years. Hope to finally finish Vagrant Story, it's a game I often put down way too early.
I love the first bit of art in this playlist, it's got so much going on and it's fun to just look at all the details.
L I T T L E M O N E Y
Oh god, that music at the beginning instantly brought this moment back.
It's hilarious how the programmers sneaked that line emphasis in. I found it odd until I learned much later how Japanese programmers are worked like dogs finishing a game with low compensation.
The best no nose having people I know
Bro. Hitoshi Sakimoto nailed it
Square Soft was great developer. Square enix is utter garbage developer. Should of never merged the companies.
My heart beats in Ivalice as the wind rustles across the Mandalia Plains, and my tears fall as rain in the Lenalian Plateau for a woman who stood up against injustice until her final breath.
So sad that Square didn't invest more on this setting. Ivalice is the richest thing they've ever made.
This is making me want to replay XII
A journey through Ivalice yet it's missing FFTA. What a shame.
I need that first image for my wallpaper.
Don’t forget ffxi! It’s apart of the ivalice universe to! :)
It may have been quite a journey from here... but I haven't forgotten the friends I made, or the stories they kept. Ivalice remains in my heart still.
Just imagine... Final Fantasy Tactics remake, using HD-2D graphics like Triangle Strategy and Octopath... 😘
Maybe one day
Chapel is one of my favorite pieces of FF music ever. What I wouldn't give to hear it orchestrated with a real organ!
世界観が良過ぎる
This playlist eases my mind, tnx.
Thank you, that's exactly what I was hoping for :)
Same
Love the Wyvern Battle theme from Vagrant Story.
I'm so happy RUclips exists and I hardly have to go digging to be transported like this. Nice and easy.
More like a musical journey through my childhood
Where did you find these FFXII songs? They have slightly different arrangements/mastering than the PSX version. Is that from the Remaster maybe?
Yes, they are from the Zodiac Age Remaster of the game
Just remember you can beat Wiegraf....it is just a lot of planning and strategy. Love his character!!!
Man Square Enix is taking Down OST videos from their games, Did you you backup this compilation?
oh I had no idea but no worries, I have a backup :)
where'd you get that wallpaper for FF tactics?
'The War of the Lions' was instant nostalgia
best ff world
Wish SE make more Ivalice settings game in the future :(
Only 20 songs from FFT? I could swear there are many more, upwards of 40, if I remember correctly. Glad to see it in the mix, regardless. Thanks for this video!
44:44 The best song ever

Vagrant Story is by far one of my favorite games of all times, the setting, the story, the characters, the ambience, the magic effects! Everything is so good. I own hard copy and digital copy on every platform. It's just so good, I still play it from time to time. I don't know why but that game just can keep me for hours and hours, the workshops are so nice, the only thing I wish it had more is visible armor differences and more gems and grips.
agreed, don't understand why SE won't remaster it and do a sequel like the game left us
1:30:30 Fran is bringing the cake, I see.
That first bit of art...I can't help but be reminded of FF14's Ivalice raids, which were based around a theater troupe writing a play about the Zodiac Braves.
The music sounds so mysterious, and I enjoy it.
Personally I lean towards the upper end of that, around 1900 years.
if you want a perfect game, get FF12. Played it through 3 times already...got platinum...where are such great games nowadays???
never played it yet
it’s that great?
@@xxJing iirc that would be the same general area where Basch and his family are from, before their nation was absorbed into the Archadian Empire
