Wow, I'm only a few minutes in and have to say this is the best (geeking out level) review I've seen so far (and I'm continually F5'ing the TW thread). Great details, close-ups, descriptions and 'quirks and features'. Thank you!
I have been looking at the different options for the back of a pickup. You have hit upon what I think is the best combination. A decked system or DIY version, and a wedge top camper like the Pacific X1. One of the biggest drawbacks seems to be having ot go to the bathroom at night. Overall, for 2 people, how is this system working out for you long term? How do yall get up to use the bathroom at night? Seems like a wrestling match to get out of the top, or am I overthinking this?
The solution has worked well. I added the ladder attachment from GFC and this made it easier for the wife to exit when she needed without removing a panel. You could add one on each side for both. I generally don't go out, but when I do I jump down and out the back.
Absolutely, with 170mm front travel. You just have to angle it slightly on the way in. The GFC nI had is better here, but it does work on the Super Pacific.
I'm on the founders list still waiting for mine! I have the decked system also. I will be switching from my gell to lithium once I get it.I have all the material ready just waiting for my X1. You are right the guys at Super Pacific are great people. Congratulations on your x1
Great review…. Have you and your wife tried sleeping with heads to the wedge end of the camper? My wife has arthritis and it would be hard for her to do an 180 to get down for a potty break. How wide is the sleeping area? Thanks Jeff
It is not comfortable to sleep toward the wedge end. This could be fixed if you slide the mattress towards the rear of the vehicle and cover the exit to the truck bed. I would suggest instead installing a ladder and going out the side of the tent so you don't have all that manuevering. The drop down from the camper to the bed is a long one for anyone under 5'10. You will be installing a step anywayg in the bed, then crawling over the tailgate to exit. My wife much prefers the ladder. The sleeping area is not quiet a double at 52", it is a bit small. On a Tundra it is a shame they don't utilize the space better and have an XL upper platform. We fit, buit it is not super roomy. I am 5'8 she is 5'2 for reference. GFC has them beat in sleeping space for sure if you are comparing.
I’m interested in this same setup for my silverado (SP switchback + decked system). Curious to know, are you able to fork mount mountain bikes inside the camper on top of the decked system?
I am able to fork mount 1 bike. This is where the GFC definitely worked better. The SP opening is a little tricky and means the bike has to be maneuvered in to the shell with a decked system on. The GFC having a large opening I easily slid both bikes in.
Some people are just haters in this comment section. Everything I’ve looked at so far, I’d choose the super pacific over other options too if I were in the market. I will pay more for some of the details, but mostly, I’d have a 2 hour drive to Portland instead of a 13 hour drive to MT. That alone is worth the price difference for me personally. The lack of bars in the way of the side windows is also a really nice part of this design imo. Hooray for all the options out there and the fact that we all get to spend our money how we choose
Curious what the big advantages to having the back window are? Im thinking having my contents not seen is a security benefit. For backing into camp space I could just open door to see, even all the doors.
Seeing the vehicles coming up on you and the gear attached to the back, like bikes, etc. I do not use it for backing up. I agree on security and went without the window in the GFC I had, that was how I learned I wanted one.
Do you know if this camper option can accommodate the propane Dickerson Heater? I am looking to save money on systems…As Such…Does this camper offer wiring to an electrical system / battery, that can be charged by the truck engine? I am thinking of basing an electrical system around a Jackery 1000/1500, and using my truck battery/solar to keep it topped off. (The Jackery has its own solar panels that I think I could ground mount.). I like that the Jackery can be mobile and removed from its mount in the camper. Also, do you have any sort of water heating system in mind for washing dishes and outside showers? Thanks and sorry for all the questions. Everything I am reading and watching seems to point to the Super Pacific option.
The built-in wiring channels are there to wire in items you want. There is no pre-built plug-in, but there is a great loom system and panel options. I use the joolca solution for hot water and it is awesome. I hope this helps.
Excellent video, especially adding the measurements. Curious if you use the side access doors for grabbing gear, or just use them for light and ventilation? To me it looks quite awkward with the height.
Thank you. I do access gear through the side doors often. Yes, it is a little awkward, but it is a lifted vehicle and getting things from the bed is odd. I jump on the tire, grab what I need and keep on trucking. At 5'8", I have this issue anyway, so someone over 6 feet likely has less of this challenge, lol!!
There are side doors on both sides of the tent, as well as the rear opening, you can use a ladder system to go in the tent through any of the three, although either side works better. The best ladder system I have found is from CVT tents or Go Fast Campers, I use GFC. If you are in the tent and want it to be harder to get in, then use no ladder and close and lock all the outside components, you can open them from inside so no worries there. You can ask more questions if this did not help.
I am averaging about 10mpg now. The camper really didn't change it much, the lift on the other hand really lowered it. If it were stock I am sure the camper would have mattered. I love my Tundra, but if I were to start over it would be a dodge diesel.
Thank you for a great vid!! The X1 is awesome!! Looking forward to how your build out is going to be. Really giving AT Overland some great competition. I figured the AT Summit or Atlas was the leader, until now. Am I incorrect that in raising the floor level with the deck system that having a Goosegear style frig on a slider with the pull out stove slider underneath would be negated? Are those awning brackets on the passenger side of the x1?
Semper Fi. It is great and with little issue. My only assessment is people over 5'10" might feel cramped due to the entry panels taking space from the sleeping area, but that might be individual issue, not bigger issue.
Once the options are added and you add the entire electrical solution they would be very similar, it comes down to what you want built in and what you want to add.
@@LoamRoamer I just paid for my GFC $6,800 with front/rear window option. Looks like this starts at $12,000. $5,200 difference. Electrical system is just some built in plugs and cable routing right?
@@Chops00 Currently, you would be about 9k with cost, options, and installation. Also, the GFC gen 2 has an even lesser weight when open than before, only 75lbs. So I could not have my solar on the camper with the amount I do. I love the GFC also and the owner. I spoke to him many times before I bought my Gen 1. Both are excellent companies, owners, and products. I chose the X1 for my reasons and do not discount anyone for the one they choose. There are so many options now. It is crazy. Also, I bought mine as a founders edition for 7k with all you see. The cost increases are tough, but so many things we buy are more expensive than a year ago.
It does well. I did get a small amount in the truck bed area, but heck, the tailgate is not sealed either so hard to say. It was pretty dust-free for 20 miles on a gravel road!
@@LoamRoamer I was thinking it’s sealed better than the tailgate. I haven’t found a good solution to seal mine off. Foam weatherstripping helped a little. I’m thinking I may need external magnetic strips to seal the outside gaps too
Looks really nicely made and sturdy, but the styling and fitting to the truck could be a lot better. But if you don’t care about that it appears to be very functional!
I called Super Pacific today to ask some questions about my order and the gap between the Tundra roof and camper for roof rack fitment. They told me the profile has been lowered by 2.5" (which I prefer) Tundra X1. The truck pics and new diagram sketches they sent me looks slick.
Sorry man good looking. But GFC has it beat..Side doors.Water runs back on you when open.GFC V2 not..Good camper for 4 to 5k less $$ GFC is the winner.Track system is inferior to GFC V2.I see alot of water problems..Only thing thats nicer is the Exped..Back window is smaller too.GFC winner.
Well, with the price increases coming for the v2 they will be a lot closer, and everyone who says 4-5k less does not consider the immense work to build an electrical chase system. I know because I priced this on my V1 GFC. Also, I love the GFC as well, and the owner. Both companies and products are pretty awesome. The water rolling back is not a reality, I know I use mine in the rain. And I m unsure what you mean by the rail system. if you mean how it mounts to the truck, I agree, GFC is better, if you mean attaching accessories, not a chance. The proprietary GFC stuff is not ner as good as the t-track that you can get the bolts at any rack shop in the country to add stuff.

I am unsure about the goose gear fitment. The measurements in the video may help with that. Yes, the brackets are on the passenger side.
How high is it? Will it fit in a garage?
It fits in the 5 panel high garage, but the tundra is lofted so standard garage is a no go.
Awesome. Are you running the XL hitch or the regular on your alta rack to clear the tailgate in the tundra?
The XL. It works awesome.
Sweet setup with the X1 and Expedition One Dual Swing Arm. Did you go with the Airlift 5000 for your airbags?
