I have a question regarding snokel fitment please. When cuttong through both outter and inner guards is the inner guard structural? Here in NZ im told that my ban wont pass a warrant of fitment if I cut through the inner guard.

Hey mate, when driving on sand, which drive mode do you choose on the 4motion dial?

Is there a chassis difference between the Transporter or Caravelle? The need is for overlanding so rear diff etc is essential.
    Any advice would be appreciated.
    Cheers!!

      Rory thanks for your message
Looks like the Caravelle is slightly longer we assume to accomodate the 9 seat capacity and that it appears to be more for moving people around in luxury.
The other thing is that the Caravelle appears to come in the tdi340 engine only and does not come with 4motion or rear diff lock
For overlanding we would recommend the transporter or California in the 4motion option with rear diff lock and hill descent
We would also go for the biggest engine you can afford and get the suspension and gvm upgrade from factory.
Remember it is an AWD and not a 4wd as such so make sure you think about where you are likely to go before taking the plunge. Feel free to call us or email for a general discussion off air and we can discuss further. Our contact details are on our website. Always happy to provide unconditional unbiased advise to help a fellow adventurer. Cheers. Alex. 👍🇦🇺

Hey mate. Thanks for your question. I have never had a VW diff out to be able to answer that question. Might best answered by your local VW mechanic but this photo i sourced might help

    Hi guys,
As a proud owner of vw crafter 2007 interested to upgrade to locked differential.
So the question is there locked differential that will fit my vw crafter 35, 2,5l 2007 80kw
Or at least to whom i could turn to with this questions.
    Thanks

Hey Elizabeth. From what we understand there is not one retrofitting rear diff locks to the crafters or transporters. That has to be done at factory. Now there is a market right there for someone like ARB to consider. Cheers. Alex.

Looking for a VW specific technical explanation, but you're only talking about general offroading and systems that basically apply to every modern 4x4 :(

Thanks for the feedback Anze. We were guided by the experts on this one. If you want any more specific information please feel free to email me your specific questions and I will get some
More info and get back to you direct. Email is contact@4motionadventures.com. Cheers. I can say that in our experience the 4motion system off road essentially throws power to the wheels that has traction and cuts power going to those wheels that don’t therefore aiding in tackling off road terrain. Cheers. Alex.

@@4motionadventures934 Thank you for response! I'd like to know, if that's a Haldex or a Thorsen system? Is that a proper mechanical locker or does it work with clutches, it makes a big difference how to use it and how much you dare loading it in certain situation depending on the system. Then further on, when the rear locker button is pressed, the locker engages, what happens with the centre diff? or does haldex engage or what happens.
      Thank you

Anze. Here is some more info for yoj.
The Thorsen system is only used in the B5 Passat 4motion, permanent 4motion amaroks and the touaregs.
The system in our transporter is a Haldex with a mechanical differential locker.
The haldex systems do not use a centre locker, they just control whether the vehicle should just be fwd or send power to one or both of the rear wheels at times when needing traction. With the locker activated, the power would be lessened or brakes at the front wheels when traction loss is detected at the front wheels.
Let me know if this answers your question or if you need more info.
      Cheers. Alex.

@@4motionadventures934 thank you. Yes you did answer. Was wondering because I got to drive the T6.1 California 4motion.
Don't forget that Phaetons also had Thorsen, I daily drive one. 😉
