  • We share some information on how to safely drive your VW 4motion camper-van on the beach. Of course the same principals would apply to any off road van that has an AWD or 4WD system.

    Best addition to my van was fitting an onboard ARB compressor, absolutely fantastic. I have 2 x 5M hoses so can reach not only every wheel on the van but also the caravan tyres too. Great video by the way 😊

      Nick. Great idea. We also have an onboard compressor with two outlets under each front seats. We also carry the bushranger just in case the onboard one dies. Thanks for your comment and feedback. Love the length of the hoses as well. Cheers. Alex

    Reminds me of my time in Australia in 1998, I had a Mazda E2000 with 1/4 million km on it and I drove many a corrugated road and did try a beach a couple of times, got stuck 1 time, now back in uk watching your vids and wishing 👍🏻

      @@Kewlus hey mate. Check out the project lift kit imported by skyline campers at Gosford. Call Jordon and tell him I sent you. This kit allows up to 4inch of lift. I tested it when we had their lwb van and loved it. That would be my choice and I have not heard any bad reviews from customers who have them when I do our courses. We use seikel on ours but it came with the van. I would also recommend the engine and gearbox protection plate. Hope this helps. Cheers.

      @@4motionadventures934 thank you. I’ll give him a call in the next week or so. Can’t wait to do some beach driving. I’m going to document my whole van build on a new channel I’m going to set up. I’ll be mentioning you lots and those who I’ll be using. My main channel is about boxing DIY (30k subs) with tons of projects, so this will have lots of van DIY projects. I think this will be my next major passion!!!

      Thanks Brian. We love it too. We are waiting to see what Vw do with future production of 4motion. They have stopped production to Australia. Hopefully the new t7 has 4motion or better still a centre diff lock and low range otherwise I see a shift here in oz to the hi ace with a 300 Prado conversion of rear diff lock set up as seen by frontline camper here in OZ. Or of course the 2nd is still a great tourer for most conditions other than sand !!!! Cheers. Alex

    • @brianjensen6350

      I haven't seen the latest HiAce but if the past generations are anything to go buy there is no comparison in comfort and build quality to the VW. I have been looking at dual cab utes for a while but nothing gets close to the space in the back as a van carrying 4 people and a large dog.

      Have had good results at slower speeds… 1st and 2nd gear.. in soft WA sand leaving the traction control on. The 4motion system seems to deal with sand better than some other systems. The diff lock then provides another level of traction if needed.

    Alex do you engage the diff lock or not? Can you explain your thoughts as to your decision on this please?

    • @4motionadventures934
      @4motionadventures934  Год назад +3

      Mark. I don’t engage the rear diff lock on the beach. The reason for this is that I want the wheel to turn independently of each other rather than being locked together via the axle to assist create better momentum. I only use the rear diff lock on off road difficult terrain like deep rutts or rocks.

      @@4motionadventures934 another question Alex, what gears do you drive in when in the fluffy sand? Manual low gear Hi revs or Auto. I assume that your van has the DSG box.

    • @4motionadventures934
      @4motionadventures934  Год назад +2

      Hey Mark. Definitely recommend driving using the manual gear selections. Driving in D will cause overheating and eventually the vehicle will shut down. Keep an eye on your engine oil temp. The normal range is between 90 and 120. If it exceeds 120 stop and let things cool down. Of course switch off the traction control system as well

    • @4motionadventures934

      Juliet. Thanks for your message. We run 225/65/17 Kuhmo road venture at51. Generally we run on about 17 psi on the sand but that also depends on how soft it is. Never lower than 15psi. Cheers Alex
