Describes my exact problems with the car. No major mods just an intake and bpv. No codes recently but after a few days, p0420 came up. Definitely time for a catless downpipe :) Thanks for the info

I think this is exactly what's wrong with my 2017 Forester XT (FA20 DIT).
When the Subaru dealerships' technical manager took the car for a test drive today, after all the research I've done into the issue in recent months as it's gotten progressively worse, I told him my gut said it was the cat causing loss of boost.
He could certainly feel the lack of power, especially up hill, and my boost gauge barely crept over 1.5 psi under heavy load.
Will call them tomorrow to insist they check both cats.

didn't help, but opened my eyes on an issue I didn't think would be that common. How efficient is that 2nd cat in turning bad gasses into not as bad gasses? Are all of the lean/rich/efficiency parameters measured after the first cat? I see the sensor before the 2nd cat, but no sensor after the 2nd cat. Is it just hanging out? I guess this is what prompts people to buy a test pipe and remove some restriction

Thank god I went catless lol and luckily where I live there is no inspection because no way i would ever pass! 😬I also have a Cobb cat back exhaust set up as well.

Hey thanks for this! I noticed you were able to separate that flange between the cats without removing the primary cat heatshield. Any tricks for getting a grip on those bolts without removing the shield? My shield’s clamp bolt is really rusted and I am having a trouble getting a grip on it, would be nice to not have to remove it.

Just bought a 2016 STi and it has all these symptoms. No check engine light, loss of power and only making 2.3psi of boost. The dealer I bought the car from just replaced the turbo and it's still has the issue. They are adamant there is no boost leak, but before I took the car back to them I could hear a rattling/pinging sound coming from the exhaust, which was not loose so I think this might be the issue, the cat destroyed itself and I was probably hearing that rattling around inside the exhaust..

Did that end up being the issue? I just bought a 16 STI and it’s starting to make a pinging sound. Almost been smelling more exhaust in the cabin with the heat/AC on.

Yea it was the catalytic converter. I replaced it with an aftermarket catted downpipe and it fixed the lack of boost issue, but now I have a constant p0420 code that my tuner can't delete because of Cobbs green speed update.

2 psi is insane I'm stuck down at 7psi from 17psi and can't figure out the problem my coworker said the ecu could've turned it down when it started hitting 110 degrees but it was only 90idh earlier and same issue

      @andrewo8356 4 месяца назад

Did you end up figuring out the issue? Mine went from 18 psi to about 14 psi and I’m not sure why the boost is dropping over time.

About how much does parts and labor cost for that issue

I have a stock 2017 Wrx and im only getting around 12 psi when i should be around 18 psi. I took it to the shop and they replaced my turbo with a brand new stock turbo and im still not hitting the correct amount of boost. There's also no codes that pop up for under boosting. The shop said that I need to get the car tuned. I'm not convinced to get the car tuned just to make stock power. Any thoughts?

I've also put brand new oem spark plugs. The only mod on the car is a catback exhaust.

Could this be happening to a 2013 as well? I’m now making 7psi from 16psi stutters after like 4-5k rpms and slight misfire?

@@tomlarsen6146there is a coupler inside of the intercooler to throttle body hose that ended up being shredded. Ordered a new all silicon one from mishimoto works great

Same here in my 09, even replaced with a lower mileage oem turbo. Been driving low boost (3psi max) for 2 years now and I’ve been hesitant to try my invidia DP due to Cali laws 😢.

Take off the tune. Cobb Tunes tend to ruin engines and cats, as well as the cheap filters and cobb intakes.

This video showcases the sti style downpipe failures. Impreza has different style cat. But yes they can fail in similar fashion.

Laugh my fucking ass off when my cat on My 2010 STI plugged up it gave me ring land failure on a brand new motor

Ring land failure can cause the cat to fail too.
