We hooked the smoke machine up to my 07 wrx tonight at work and I had smoke coming from that same area. We pulled the intercooler and smoked it as well with no leaks. We can't seem to see any holes in any hoses or anything. The coupler from the throttle body to the intercooler isn't in the best of shape but still no cracks or holes. I put it all back together and plan to hit it again in the morning to see if maybe a clamp wasn't letting something seal all the way.
That is a pretty cool tool. Thanks for the MAF explanation. Sidebar: I asked about the milled cube a while back I wanted to make sure it didn't get lost in the mail.
i just bought a 2007 wrx and i think i have a boost leak too. sounds like a high pitch air release on highway speeds but i just thought it was my aftermarket hks bov just like the one in your video. better use your method to check for a leak.
How do you tell the difference between a boost leak and a misfire? My 07 wrx won't hit full boost stalls / studders around 4.5k to 5k... won't hit full boost.
My 06 wrx would hit boost sometimes and other times it would studder. Got error code for misfire. Replaced spark plugs and misfire codes went away but engine still studdering. Replaced fuel filter and pump and that did the trick. So my fuel pump was basically dying at 190k miles lol.
@@abc_u_hater have you tried cleaning your MAF sensor? It's $10 for the spray cleaner. I actually tried that and then replaced my MAF with a known working one from a buddy to rule out a bad MAF sensor. You could also have a knowledrable shop test fuel pressure to confirm fuel pump is good or not before replacing it.
Question for ya. I’ve got a 2002 WRX with a full TBE (catless). Sometimes I can hit 15lbs and will hold that but sometimes it will go up to 20, back down to 10, up to 15, then back down to 10. It will do that throughout the pull. Is this a boost leak or is it some kind of overboost?
That is most likely due to the exhaust flowing better than stock. The turbo spools faster, jumps to 20psi and the boost controller slams shut dropping to 10 psi and then re regulating to 15 which is the stock setting.
MorFab Industries Thats what I was thinking as well yesterday actually. Thanks for the info! Any ideas on how I can fix this? Do I get a different wastegate? I don’t have a whole lot of knowledge about these cars, I’m new to the scene
@@jakeselvius6502 hey man this is probably way too late but in subies you have to tune pre much everytime u add a mod lol. A full TBE (downpipe + catback) is actually a stage 2 tune, you can either get a protune or get a Cobb AP and run the OTS tune or else you’ll blow ur motor running rich becsuse it’s too free flowing for your stock tune
@@keithfeiden1133 found out mine was just a cracked downpipe right at the turbo but I found the tool anyway www.google.com/aclk?sa=L&ai=DChcSEwjbps23k_rxAhVuam8EHdp3BuoYABAdGgJqZg&ae=2&sig=AOD64_0CkgBHWR3ipMcYsvI_AwblesXvaA&ctype=5&q=&ved=2ahUKEwiAh8S3k_rxAhWXQs0KHQw7A4kQwg96BAgBEDU&dct=1&adurl=
If you dont have a smoke machine just use your vape since all subie owners vape anyways 😂 lmao jk great video i hope this is my problem and nothing more serious.

I'm wanting to smoke test it but this is my 1st Subaru and want to start buying equipment. Oh, Is it one unit or is it a compressor as well as a smoke machine Thanks

The owner of this car is the typical Wrx dude that doesn’t know what the hell he’s doing, blows the engine and then blames Subaru…just take a look at that intercooler just all loose, missing a freaking pcv hose and not only that, he’s running a cheap atmospheric blow of valve instead of the stock bpv without changing to speed density first. He must’ve blow the engine by know for sure.
I just want to know, how a real mechanic had such manicured fingernails 🤣🤣🤣. Stop, pause the video and see the big guy has perfect nails. Come on RUclips, Really
Very good to know man, thanks for explaining everything to people who dont know as much as you, I appreciate it thanks

Plastic bag on vacuum side of intake

Easy peasy.
Thanks for the info. You made my day

Boost restrictor pill in vacuum t off wastegate may be missing. People change the vacuum lines and it gets tossed.
What's the plugging tool called?
