    I was making an informative video to help others and I have to keep the video family friendly due to RUclips’s guidelines or I run the risk of having my video or channel taken down. I also have to stick to my state laws or could get fined. You have to think of the other people out there who have watched this video and might not own a shotgun or live somewhere where it is unlawful to just kill wildlife. Sorry that you didn’t find the information you were looking for on this video. Have a nice day!

      I appreciate your effort , but just a quick disclaimer to cover your butt would be smart. It is illegal in most states to relocate skunks
      (as well as most other wildlife) due to disease control and other obvious reasons. Part of the reason I and other wildlife removal technicians have to maintain a special license to do this kind of work is to ensure that we are aware and up to date with the laws regarding these things.

    I certainly would never let anyone turn a skunk loose on my farm for a number of reasons. Skunks are egg eaters first and foremost. They will eat eggs of every variety of bird I have including pheasants, quail, doves, ducks, and chickens (including chickens)! I can't imagine any farmer wanting to deal with a skunk any more than you do. Why turn your problem into someone else's problem?

    They are very smart in central NC. They will reach their dexterous paws through the trap mesh wire and steal the bait. I secure half of a 12oz. drink can to the center of the trap bottom and put the trap near something that blocks access to one side. Bait with fish,peanut butter,etc. Be sure to stake the trap down. Rollover=escape. Cover the caged pest with something that keeps you from being sprayed,submerge the whole shebang in the water for 3 mins. I like skunks,am not offended by their smell,but when they raid my sweet corn,all bets are off. I have to use a low 2 strand electric fence to really keep them out. A radio in the middle of the patch will keep them at bay for a little while,but they get used to it.I believe they can learn to dance,so keep it on PBS or a talk show.Thanks for the video.

    Good video. I use a big plastic trash can and put the trap inside that. Once in the trap you just put the lid on and off you go. Also here in Missouri some company’s charge up to $800 dollars to trap a skunk. Cheapest I’ve seen is $400!

    Works amazing to put the trap in a feed bag first...just leave the entrance door out of the bag at one end....such as chicken feed bag....they even are enticed by that smell...put the bait inside such as marshmallows. ...they wander around it sniffing and find the entrance ...go in and voila.....calm and never spray....you just go pick them up and go to your release site.....

    • @w.7194
      @w.7194 5 лет назад +4

      I have trapped probably 60 skunks over the last few years with none spraying since if they can't see a threat they don't spray......put a feed bag over entire trap with just the entrance door sticking out......works perfect.....pick up the handle through the bag and carry to the drop off site.

      Aquafina...no need to worry when you mow the lawn. Skunks are not known to attack in your example. Choosing instead to hide undercover and come out when it’s safer for them. Usually at night, because they’re mostly nocturnal. In the spring when a mother skunk is extra hungry, it may come out in the day to forage but they do mostly roam at night. Forget the services that charge a fortune to trap and remove a critter for you. Do that yourself. Get a haveahart live trap suitable for a skunk and relocate or euthanize the critter yourself. Very empowering and take back control of your property!!! Home Depot has the traps. Start there...keep watching and reviewing on how to do it yourself. Save money and take control.

    Take a trap width wide and almost as long as the trap, plank of wood and wedge it into the trap about half height or less so he can't raise his tail, then take two thin metal bars and slide then through the trap sides directly above the wood on each end of the wood, so he can't push the wood up! Then tie a ten or twelve foot long clothesline rope to the top of the trap and the bottom of the door! That gives you enough room to release the latch and pull the door up and open and then to run farther away from it if he does spray! Stand behind it and pull the bottom end of the rope, raising the door! Baking soda, peroxide and dawn dish washing liquid eliminates the scent real good! Just mix them together and wipe the area clean! If skunks can't raise their tails, they might not spray because they know that they will be spraying on their tails! They hate the scent too!

I watched another video that said mothballs do not work. But I read another article that told me they do. I was planning on putting them in Old socks and then placing them around the yard. No, my dog would not go near the mothballs in the sock and try to eat them. She would be repulsed.

      RYAN RÄHM Personal experience with exactly this test. The skunk tends to not go into a tight trap. Choosing instead to reach in from the exterior with its paws. Scratching for and dragging the bait to the edge of the hard to access trap. Then it simply enjoys all the bait that way...and walks away in a “fuck you” fashion. Best bet is make it easily accessible and comfortable for the skunk to enter and be trapped. Then do your choice of next options (drown/poison inject/carbon monoxide exposure/ relocation etc).

      @@mrgoggles1963 I've caught skunk in a Havahart 1084 with a 7×7" opening. I disguised the trap with bush clippings and put a rock on it to weight it down & make it look more natural. Putting dirt/leaves on the trap bottom also makes it look less obtrusive. Skunks can squeeze into tiny openings that would shock people. I watched one squeeze through a 3" gap under a neighbor's garage door. They were squeezing through a small space under my porch lattice last year. The right presentation & bait will do the trick. You gotta place the bait correctly too. Ive used the 1084 and never had the bait stolen like you're suggesting.

    Bird food is a skunks second favorite bait next to grubs. Spray ammonia on the ground inside the shed to keep the little monsters out. They don't like the smell but you have to keep it fresh. Use a havahart skunk trap. They can't raise their tail in a skunk trap . When removing a skunk some states require that you kill them. I recommend that you kill them. My ex brother in law is a farmer and he kills them with a shotgun if he sees one. They carry rabies. You don't want them around. Especially during mating season. Stinks really bad.

      Probably digging for grubs. Trapping them can be hard when they are grubbing since it can be pretty much all they want. There are good grub baits online to catch them with if that's the situation. Otherwise, bread with peanut butter, mini marshmallows, bacon, fried chicken, canned catfood, & sardines or other canned fish will all work. They love oily, smelly stuff.

      Ewa Lehr. Nope 👎 When a skunk causes property damage or kills livestock of any type, the skunk must die. Man is supreme being over a stinky skunk. Killing a skunk that damages property or kills chickens etc, is fair and required. I pay property tax for my place and a skunk is not a welcomed guest. This is usually why most people choose to just kill the little nuisance critters. Illegal or otherwise. They seem to know to not come around here, because I don’t see them on my property. Neighbours a farm over have lots though. They keep killing them and others keep coming. I say the skunks will eventually lose the game there and stop coming. If they don’t, well...the game continues.

    Indiana it is against the law to a relocate to a different county in which the animal was caught. The state actually recommends you put the animal down. The reason for this is so you don't spread diseases around from area to area, causing more harm than good. Put long ropes on the corners of your tarp. Pull the tarp over the trap slowly from a distance. I have never had one spray doing it like that.

      Always one bleeding heart out there willing to take their misery to someone else. Shoot them. Asphyxiate them with co2 from exhaust pipe. Put them under a tarp. seal it off and give them the old hose pipe treatment. Animal control trappers trap them and leave them in the trap without water and let them just die. That is what the worthless skunk trapper did that came to my house. He didn't catch my skunk but he had someone elses in the back of his trunk. Don't pay a trapper to catch your skunk they don't come back enough to check the bait. You are better off to buy a skunk trap put some peanut butter, cat food or fish in there. Good luck. May the smell not be with you.

    • @mrgoggles1963
      @mrgoggles1963 4 года назад

      Rabies is contained in the animal’s brain, so shooting them in the head in an attempt to kill them before they spray is a dangerous proposition. This is due to the possibility of contact with the ejecta that emanates from a blown out skull. Also, the blood often carries dangerous infectious diseases and that is also a problem. A better and safer way is to live trap and inject the skunk with acetone and it dies in seconds. Paralysed and unable to spray because of it. Skunk poles are available for purchase and acetone is super cheap from any hardware store. Home made puncture poles are easily made and certainly cost effective. Be certain to dispose of the dead skunk in a safe and humane manor...don’t just throw it in your garbage can. You can figure out a better way, I’m sure.
