I had a skunk when I was a kid. He was very playful and loved playing with me, very fun. He was also very sassy and would frequently make fake charges at me and stuff like that.
He was a fun lil guy.
Stayed at a friend’s house in the 70’s. In the middle of the night, something nibbled on my toes. It was their albino skunk. Slept in a cabinet during the day.
I used to have a pet skunk named Byron and he was an enormous cuddlebug too. He'd paw at my leg when I am sitting at my desk and wanted uppies and then he'd snug in under my t-shirt, wiggled until comfortable and he'd let out this tiny content sigh before sleeping. He was a brown and white hooded skunk.
Awwww
I had a squirrel for 14 years did every thing with me. Had him before his eye's & ears opened so I was all Pete knew.
thats just plain wonderful
Squirrels make awesome pets. So do opossums, but the poor dears have a very short life span.
I had a squirrel as a kid. Named him Stuart after Stuart Little. Only kept him domestic for about a year though, then he built a nest in the roof of the pool shed. Still came in the house pretty often. I miss the little guy.
This is the only way I would own an exotic pet! Eyes closed and all she knows! 😂
THEY CAN LIVE THAT LONG??
We had two pet skunks when I was a kid. Both were rescues. Unfortunately we lost one soon after getting her. We didn’t have them at the same time. The male is the one that we had the longest. Highly intelligent! We had a baby gate that you actually had to pinch the mechanism, lift up and then swing it out. He figured out that if he bit it and jumped back, he could open that gate. He absolutely loved to swim, but would scream if you tried to give him a bath. We lived on the lake and he was constantly trying to run for the water. If you went to put shampoo on him, he would scream as if you were murdering him. He liked to sleep under the vanity in the bathroom. Anytime us kids had somebody stay the night you could hear them scream because he would pop his little nose out from underneath the vanity and go climb into their pants down around their ankles cuddle up. He never messed with Froot Loops, but boy did he love sugar cookies! There was not a sugar cookie safe in the house. This was years and years ago and we would take him to the drive-in with us and put him on the dashboard while we watched the movie. He would just run back-and-forth trying to steal sugar cookies. We would kind of wrestle with him now and then, and it never hurt when he bit us. He loved when we rolled him over across the floor, though. I have big dogs now, so it would not be a good idea to get another skunk, but I have been thinking for the past several years about getting another one or two some day. People really don’t understand just how good of pets they can be.
❤
What the hell are sugar cookies? Are they also known as Death pills?
@@miraak8523 I know lmao... my point is cookies are already sweet... sugar cookies just sound worse!
i heard that with animals .. like dogs.. (and maybe this is true for skunks too). the running water in a bathtub bathroom is very intense auditorily. Also, the blow dryer used is too.. so people devised a way to make the environment much less noisy. like doing the bath in a place that does not have all the surfaces that bounce sound.. and also don't use the loud running water faucet. I think they just put some water in some other container that they can use to rinse off the animal.
Oh I'm sure they are.
Lilly is beautiful! What a gem!!
Such cute animals! I'm envious that you get to cuddle with that fluffy, sweet creature
human eat and pet everything weird
The inhuman has critique of humans?
Go away, poseur
We had a skunk when I was a kid back in the late 50's and 60's. I would play with her all the time. If you've never given her an egg, you are missing out. She will roll the egg over to a wall or chair leg, stand over it and hike it like a center against the wall to break it open. I used to slip Penny a hard boiled egg now and then just for fun. She would go nuts with them trying to break them open as though they were raw eggs. Everybody who came over with sandals on or bare footed had to be warned about the friend or foe skunk test. She would nip a toe then quickly back away to check their reaction. I'd tell them, "Don't react to her nip, she will never break skin, and she's waiting for a kick or a yelp to decide if she want's to have anything to do with you. A passive response will get you her attention and make a good friend." She never nipped a known toe twice, but never forgot the reaction, and ignored anyone whose reaction to her test did not please her. I would catch sand crabs on the beach and bring them up for Penny to play with and eat. They looked like an egg to her and she'd hike them up against a wall. That would light them up and they'd start running across the floor and she'd chase them down and hike 'em across the floor for fun (I guess) before settling down for a nosh at the crab's expense. She was, as is Lilly, a hoot and a very affectionate and clean little animal and very attached to all the members of our family. Now skunks as pets are illegal here---sadly. After all these years I still think of her quite fondly.
She actually would probably never have sprayed you if she still had her glands. I've had several Skunks that still had their scent glands over the years, and never had an incident. They "threaten" to spray as part of their play. As with all animals, play is typically a rehearsal for vital life skills that they need to survive.
She’s ADORABLE ❣️❣️❣️
I really enjoyed your “presentation “. Factual and funny. Thank you for sharing.
So cute! I love that you whispered, so she wouldn’t hear you call her fat!😂
Don't believe that bite part . We had a skunk 50 plus years ago when i was a kid . Baby loved to sleep with me and my dad came and picked her up . She didn't like it and bit through his thumb. He was just trying to give her breakfast.
My cousin’s Maine Coon cat recently bit his thumb down to the bone. Skunks do have some teeth for causing damage, but I’d say they’re no more likely to bite than a dog or a cat.
Does ds fun e st Xi ll have a skunk odor in her fur
Does her fur still smell like skunk
@@lynnemclaud8112 it depends on if they have the scent glands removed. If they remove them it can never be free. It will always be a pet than . Ours did not have gland removed. And only occasionally did we smell the scent. It usually meant we had to give it a bath .
Better dad than you right. lol 😉
Thank you for sharing! I want a skunk, but my partner says, "NO!".
WHY DO I WANT TO HAVE A SKUNK NOW
I thoroughly enjoyed his video. He gave such interesting information and kept me entertained ❤️
She is not husky she is a curvy little lady 😭
Thanks for posting & sharing your journey. Adorable! Both of you.
Now I want a skunk. Lily is adorable.
🤣 and smell nice when stressed
We had a wild baby skunk brought to us at about 5 weeks she lived just over 8 yrs. Ours was never descended and she never sprayed. We got the mock spray where she would turn and look over her shoulder and fluff up her tail. Skunks look before shooting. Ours loved sweet potato and carrots so much her white turned pinkish orange. They also stomp their feet too. I miss my Bella.
_I'd love to have a skunk! I've always thought they were cute. Had no idea they were so nice & not mean. Lily's adorable & her Daddy is, too!_
🦨🤍🖤🦨🖤🤍🦨
what? Dogs and cats eat stuff other than boring dry kibble. Come on man. My dog loves carrots and cauliflower and broccoli, not so much a fan of spinach. My cat used to love ice cream. Seems like you are playing favorites here with skunky-poo
Once had a Doberman that would go completely goofy for cabbage !
"Don't make me bring Lily in here!"
lol next level threat.
I kept rats and think one of the most common questions was do they carry diseases and yeah but they can't transmit them unless you eat them "They're very clean animals it's people who are dirty." Joeseph Carter The Minkman.
Very informative. Thanks.
My mother told me she had a pet shunk in Massachusetts when she was girl in the 1920s......Later she had coat trimmed with skunk fur, which was apparently a very chic thing at one time.
Wow she is super cool. I saw my Mom catch a wild skunk one time like it was nothing. A skunk had strolled into our camp and my mom walked over and picked it up by the tail and held it out with it hanging straight down. They can't spray unless their tail is up. She walked it out of camp set it on the ground and strolled back to the fire. All of us kids were in shock like "Mom, that was a skunk. Are you crazy?". She said she had caught dozens of skunks and had them for pets when she was a kid. Not de-scented though so they lived outside. She did ask if we noticed that she was holding it out away from her. Which we did then she said that was a hard learned lesson early in her skunk catching days. I guess one got ahold of her and ripped her up.
I have 14 yr old cat , a tuxedo . She does a lot of the same things that your skunk does . Similar foods etc . I taught her sit on my shoulder when she was young . She also walks on a leach . More over so when she knows she is walking home . She also goes swimming in the hottest part of the summer . She will swim almost 20 meters and sometimes sits in the water afterword to stay cool during the hottest part of the summer .
This guy is a famous speedrunner, on twitch, he goes by Palmer. I had no idea he had a pet skunk. :O
I have always thought skunks were adorable, and wanted one as a pet. I know they’re smart and just the cutest things. Thank you for posting this. And I think I want to go with a skunk rescue if possible, though, instead of a breeder. They are wild animals, but if they can’t be in the wild, I would definitely love to have one!
Every domestic animal started as a wild animal. Skunks are in no danger of extinction or anything. I think it's fine. You want a pet skunk, pet possum, pet raccoon, as long as you know what you're getting into and you're OK with it, I see it as no different than a pet mouse or rat. They're all rodents except the raccoon, who may as well be a rodent. Raccoons are going to outlast us and survive the apocalypse. Skunks probably will too :)
A family member had one that got out and turned all the faucets on in the house when they were out w the kids.
Super smart locks recommended 👌
@@SoBayK80lmao amazing
I love skunks so much they are so cute
Thanks for all of the info! She is so darn adorable!! I would love to have a skunk.
My cat tries to put his butt in my face every chance he gets. 😂
Lmao I hear you there 😂
Careful about who you tell about the bites. Some states will come straight to you and take her, put her down and test her for rabies. I've heard some horror stories with people losing their pet skunk because a of a nip on the finger. Skunks have the highest mortality rate from rabies then any other animal.
u would be a true warrior if your skunk didn’t have the surgery and u just endured the spray lol
She's ADORABLE! Sounds like a fun time with her - fascinating!
DONT FEED MYSTERY PELLETS TO ANY ANIMAL….I don’t care what anyone says…it’s NOT healthy for any animal.
We love skunks! We had them hang out in our yard when we lived in Santa Cruz, CA, and they were never a problem for us. We learned that Great Horned Owls will eat skunks... so keep Lily safe!!
My brother had a skunk. After several months I asked him what the sunk was like.
"Well," he replied, "he ain't much for brains but he's hell for cute."
How about the odor of her poo and urine? My possums had the exact same add a human. Nothing like a cat litter box! My possums lived 5,6 years. Easy pet! I'd want it to sleep me as well.
Lovely little girl, but why would you not treat your dogs and cats as well? Make their food as well...fresh chicken, lean beef, baby carrots, cucumber, soft boiled eggs...for the dogs of course...
Enjoyed this video so much
I fed skunks the first day I moved to the rural area. I like them around because they keep people away. I worked 7 days a week, away from home, so skunks were my solution. People are more afraid of a skunk than most dogs.
They do get fat, I had one as broad as she was long. I make microwave bread for them. But, they also eat up the garden.
I believe my compost piles also draw them to my place.
I scuff my feet and they run away, except for one little fellow, he started to run away, gave it a second thought and came back at me.
Thank goodness I was in the kitchen door, so slammed it shut and saved myself.
He was no bigger than my fist, he is 2yearss old now and still feisty, others never had his disposition. He'll probably get me one day ,as I'm 8I and can't move that fast.
Laws can be very different: In Germany we don't need a licence at all, but descenting a skunk is strictly forbidden as it is considered animal cruelty. Nevertheless, they are somewhat accepted as pets and as I learnt from a local owner, they really do spray very rarely when they grow up around humans. As kittens they sometimes do it because they don't realise how much they stink, but usually after the first two weeks they have learned that spraying is no fun. They hate their own stink more than we do. A local breeder told me that of the 100 or so skunks he has raised, only two have sprayed after the first month and they mostly did it to each other and never to the breeder. Still, they often proudly display their warning signs when they are upset or sometimes just because they are playful.
To my own surprise, skunks have never made it into the german wilerness because of.... Snakes! Believe it or not, the few snakes in Germany, most of which are not even venomous, are incredibly good at killing skunks - because the most common, the grass snakes - are spraying a stinky secret themselves and simply don't care about stink. We often have grass snakes taking a sun bath next to our swimming pool, they are as harmless as it gets, as I kid I often just played with them, with me ending up stinky and bitten all over but I had fun.
About the smell, the european pole cat can spray a stink which smells very similiar but only for around 30-50cm. But they also use it to mark their territory which basically means they walk around their territory and stink up the place every week or two. If you live near a forest you have the smell pretty much always around you. And yes, we have several pole cats in the woods next to our garden and it pretty much stinks the whole year a bit like skunk. You get used to it.
When i was a kid we went to the smoky mountains sleeping in an rv park/tent park so on in a pop up camper. Sitting outside roasting the mellows and about 12 of them just showed up all at once. We gave them some of what we had at the time, they were straight begging. Adults said go ahead we dont want them angry at us,lol. But,even after we didnt have anything to give them. They stayed around some of them just to be petted and just kept coming back and standing by the chair to be pet. Not all of them prob 4 or 5. Even after that a few just stayed laying on the ground near awhile,it was wild.
I have had skunks in my backyard and was never sprayed by them. They are very quiet animals but don't provoke them.
The thing I wonder, how to find a vet that can (and accept to) perform the operation?
Used to have a skunk that would visit me in my backyard, she would come up and sit on my foot and that meant she wanted me to lift her up to my lap, never was sprayed but she did the stompy dance whenever she was mad I was out of treats for her
Yup..tucking head cozies..thats a skunk! My wild buddy Flower climbed onto me sleeping on my lounge chair, first physical contact was snuggling into my shoulder & waking me up..I started petting her thinking was neighborhood cat!
Elevated my heart rate!😂Then we were gooood🥰❤️🦨
I have to hear more. You are the 2nd person I've seen say a wild skunk climbed up on them to sleep outside, lol. This is fascinating.
@@angelmartin7310 Skunks are really high-strung as their active, they have a high metabolism..then, just like ferrets, Kapoof...nightie-nite.. they just drop sleep.
Skunks are really easy going, so if they are acclimated to your presence, scent, and routine and deem you non-threatening..there's a benefit to cuddling up to who is WARM and DETERS PREDATORS!
So, it makes sense.
I know one person who came home nights, who pet the "cat" one night to suddenly get surprised by the realization.."🥰...🦨...😬"
Lol..
Lilly is so beautiful. 🦨❤
IMO dog owners that feed their dogs just kibble are doing their dogs a disservice...for what, time, convinience and cost? Research has shown that long lived dogs are those that have been fed a variety of food.
As a kid growing up in Florida we had all kinds of different pets my parents kept similar licenses to the local zoo so we could have just about anything but we never had a skunk and always wanted one
I am the exception to the rule when it comes to skunks 🦨. My dog once found a litter of baby skunks under a large piece of cardboard outside and I thought the baby skunks were adorable. They didn’t have an odor yet. We left them so the Mother would care for them. Lily is adorable 💕🌈🙏Thanks for sharing her story 🦨
turns out it's legal to have a skunk in the UK although it's illegal to descent them, but i have no sense of smell, so all good 🤣🤣
I take issue with being told that I could meet your skunk. I have been patiently waiting for a year and have yet to shake her hand or kiss her most perfectest face. 🥰
I have 3 fur babies SNOOPY . SCOOTER. AND SAMMY. plus one Rabbit . Scooter and Snoopy mainly keep to them selves. Sammy he is separated from the 2 older skunks . All 3 have their likes and dislikes . Snoopy likes scramble eggs so does Sammy . Plus vegetables. Carrots etc... Scooter does not like eggs some veggies yes . Like fruits grapes apples and all 3 like fresh cooked meat . Ground beef and turkey meat all mixed in with veggies . The 2 older boys like their water with ice cubes . At times I gotta limit Sammy on his drinking water .. they get a bath once a week . . Now about the biting . Scooter is black n white he would bite alot and boy did it hurt . . Every time after his bath he gets rewarded for being a good boy. He gets strawberry flavor sugar free wafers. He will wabble he weighs around 40 to 50 pds Snoopy is brown and white he is a bluff lol he grunts and squeals at times but it's all bluff because I get a hold of him. He cubbles up to me gives me hugs .as I baby talk to him he would always escape his fenced in spot and get under the recliners climbed the fence . .. Sammy he is own little fella his fenced in kennel is open during the say because all he does is come out looks for me then goes back to his bed feeling safe I guess yeah he will go from his bed to his liter box drink of water and to bed . Sammy is our younger baby. He plays with Pepper our Rabbit . I trained pepper to. Bring me her ball or let's play ball. She also gets a bath it's kinda tricky to catch her at times but once I get her calmed down she gives in . As I give her a bath she will. Keep looking up to me as I pour warm water on her back plus baby talk her tell her she is pretty and that mama loves her also . I get reactions when I go buy their meals or liter when I mention skunks I Get excuse me did you say Skunks ? I say yes 3 of them then I show them pictures etc... they asked where did you get them from ? I tell them . RUBY FUR FARM HERE IN IOWA . Some states don't allow domestic animals as pets . But hey they will give so much love to whom ever . They are a one owner pet though . They will bond to one person or maybe 2 . My husband and I. But mostly with me . They know the word NO . Go potty . And night night . And love you babies . They all get attention of love . Now they do require your time . Skunks as pets is not for everyone .think and do your research before you get one . Many people do not do the research and say they are so cute . Yes they are but like any other animal they got that wild side still . Some people set them free with that skunk would not be able to survive nor protect it self. Some send them to another fur farm. Where they die. Because not enough attention given . So think about it .. other then that to me they are easy to care for. God's creation is so amazing even in the smallest little bodies
Lily is adorable.😊
I attended a skunk show few years ago - was shocked at all the different colors. Most people had them in baby pens.
Youre right, it is smart! That skunk is smarter than you!! It didnt buy a razer kraken rgb headset.
They will dig up a yellow jacket's nest and eat the larvae.
I always wondered how they don't get stung in the face.
and it feels ok with you ethically? she was a wild animal. let nature be nature
Stop taking a wild animal operate on it to use it as a pet your such a bad person
Oh I'm not surprised how smart skunks can be.
Yes you just made me want one hahaha. She’s adorable ❤
This guy is a really good trader named Professor Palmer
I had a buddy who had a pet skunk years ago,,,very cool pet, who had the runof the house....one day his dad is workign in the basement when this skunk comes up to him....he went to push it aside with his foot and send it back upstairs...when he found out that it was NOT his kid's descented pet skunk.
Sounds like a cat with a white stripe! thats a good thing :D
That's so cute man, how she eating 😂😂
The main reason I don't want a skunk is that there are no vets in town that could take care of one.
I live in a state that wont allow skunks as pets and I would love one for sure
I live in the Netherlands and we don't have wild Skunks or racoons, i'm jealous, those animals are awesome
Haha the booty scoots, great vid
This guy has kids?He looks 20 years old.I thought he was living with his parents!
31, I just look young and only have the one kid 😆
Amazing cool skunk 🦨
RUclips channels need to stop making think people owning wild animals is a good idea and people need to stop getting pets they're not gonna take care of.
Shelters are swelling with unwanted pets cus the unnameable event ended so they werent needed by their selfish owners anymore. Ppl suck.
I wish I could say you're overreacting, but I do also agree entirely with what you said. I don't think most people should even own the dogs they do.
She is absolutely darling!!!!! 🥰🥰
My skunk is verrrrry picky. Only wants dog food, meal worms, and almonds. He doesn't want anything else.
My skunk is very clean. After every meal, he cleans himself for 30 minutes, if you spray him with water, then he stops what he is doing and cleans himself. But of course, he hates baths.
When people ask me if that is a skunk, I tell them "NO", it is a cat. Then you see them thinking. """""""""""""
My skunk is very possessive with my wife. She is the only one that can hold him.
My skunk became picky as he got older. He loved chicken, yogurt and different veggies. Great pet. Just passed away two weeks ago at 8 1/2 years old
Wait, he has kids old enough to TALK? He looks and sounds seventeen! 😮 I was expecting him to say something like he brought Lily into school for show and tell.
Lily is too adorable!!! God bless her and her family!
What a great guy. So good that there are people who show the worth of the infamous creatures.
"She would pee, and poo, and eat, and everything in that same spot, wouldnt move" --> "Yeah I remember getting an Xbox360 and Halo 3..."
Thank you
I’ve always wanted a pet skunk, I’ve had possums and they were potty trained in a kitty litter box. My possums loved crunching on yucky snails.
I would call my skunk Chanel, but I will never get one. My neighbor helped a wild skunk that had stuck her head in a jar.
She approached the skunk talking gently to her saying I will help you but dont spray me. At first the skunk went away, then she came close and let the lady held the jar and she pulled her head out. She didn't spray her benefactor, and got on her way. Thank you for your interesting presentation. Lily is very cute and amazing.
Awesome!
Thank you for informing us about skunks as pets.
Im convinced yall will make anything a pet .
Well, I THOUGHT I wanted a possum but now....!
He takes such nice care of her -- so attentive. They're relationship is very sweet.

Did he actual NOTICE That sthe poor skunk was LITERALLY A WILD ANIMAL??? I worry for that animal's welfare if he didnt get why he had to go THROUGH all that trouble. The aninal wasnt meant for domestication so you could have a new toy.
I love a great rescue story. But not for someone's needs.. or for sh1ts and giggles.
You and your family are good people! It's awesome to see people who love animals and are willing to take the time and energy to care for them properly and love them! We have wild Skunks in the back yard which we feed and they're so cute - especially the babies! Thanks for showing us how it's done!
I found a baby skunk separated from its mother and brought it home. Its fur was softer than a kitten’s. In Texas you can’t have skunks as pets 😢. Was so disappointed. I fed it some turkey and released back into the wild after a few hours.
So beautiful! Envy you.
I encountered a couple of short videos on RUclips with wild skunks in them (there are no skunks in my country) and I immediately noticed that they make an overall cat-like impression, and at that point I knew there would be videos about pet skunks and this is the first one I've watched.
I finally have the last spot in my animals top-3 taken! It goes:
1) cats
2) foxes
3) skunks
for know... maybe I'll grow even fonder of these little guys
I have 11week old skunk it's illegal to get them descented here in UK... I absolutely love my little skunk gizmo xx
Can we conclude from this that Skunk People are special people?
Not as special as you, man.
Please STOP feeding your dogs kibble...that's sad. Dogs like fresh food, too, just balance it right, been doing it for years
Jesus Christ is the Master Creator of all; Romans 10:9-10 from the Bible: “That if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart man believes to righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made to salvation.”

So glad I clicked. :) Loved your share. Lily is Adorable.
We live on farm with out buildings, near pond ,woods and we live with all kinds of wild animals. Skunks come out at dawn, usually, , for cat food, banana s, carrots, marshmallows whatever... Like you said, they all have there preferences and personalities.
One night, my cat pushed the unclenched kitchen door opened , followed by a 4 month old Mr. Or Missy skunk. it went straight to cats food plate. Lol. They are used to my voice I guess, because, I chatted her up through her noum noums and after her fill, I opened the door and off he or she , went to whence it came.
The 4 cats and I, KNOW who is boss too. Your both adorable... blessings..
They definitely need bug protein.
Possums are great too.
yup! she eats turkey/chicken and other low fat protein options for about 20% of her diet as well. they just edited it out
@@CaryPalmerrI bet she likes dog or cat kibble like the raccoons I feed in my alley.
What was Lily eating? It looked like a hot pepper, but supposedly skunks are repelled by hot peppers. As mammals, one would expect by default they would be sensitive to the heat from the capsicum--unlike birds.
Sugar gliders are the best pets. I've had a raccoon, squirel, alligator, skunk, lizards, snakes, fish, cat, dog, salamanders, insects, white tale deer, owl, hawk, eagle, beaver, and a few others species.
But hands down, the best pets are sugar gliders.
I've known several skunks through friends who had them. They are cooler than cats but do have an odor like a Ferret...
