I had a skunk when I was a kid. He was very playful and loved playing with me, very fun. He was also very sassy and would frequently make fake charges at me and stuff like that.

Stayed at a friend’s house in the 70’s. In the middle of the night, something nibbled on my toes. It was their albino skunk. Slept in a cabinet during the day.

I used to have a pet skunk named Byron and he was an enormous cuddlebug too. He'd paw at my leg when I am sitting at my desk and wanted uppies and then he'd snug in under my t-shirt, wiggled until comfortable and he'd let out this tiny content sigh before sleeping. He was a brown and white hooded skunk.

We had two pet skunks when I was a kid. Both were rescues. Unfortunately we lost one soon after getting her. We didn’t have them at the same time. The male is the one that we had the longest. Highly intelligent! We had a baby gate that you actually had to pinch the mechanism, lift up and then swing it out. He figured out that if he bit it and jumped back, he could open that gate. He absolutely loved to swim, but would scream if you tried to give him a bath. We lived on the lake and he was constantly trying to run for the water. If you went to put shampoo on him, he would scream as if you were murdering him. He liked to sleep under the vanity in the bathroom. Anytime us kids had somebody stay the night you could hear them scream because he would pop his little nose out from underneath the vanity and go climb into their pants down around their ankles cuddle up. He never messed with Froot Loops, but boy did he love sugar cookies! There was not a sugar cookie safe in the house. This was years and years ago and we would take him to the drive-in with us and put him on the dashboard while we watched the movie. He would just run back-and-forth trying to steal sugar cookies. We would kind of wrestle with him now and then, and it never hurt when he bit us. He loved when we rolled him over across the floor, though. I have big dogs now, so it would not be a good idea to get another skunk, but I have been thinking for the past several years about getting another one or two some day. People really don’t understand just how good of pets they can be.

i heard that with animals .. like dogs.. (and maybe this is true for skunks too). the running water in a bathtub bathroom is very intense auditorily. Also, the blow dryer used is too.. so people devised a way to make the environment much less noisy. like doing the bath in a place that does not have all the surfaces that bounce sound.. and also don't use the loud running water faucet. I think they just put some water in some other container that they can use to rinse off the animal.

We had a skunk when I was a kid back in the late 50's and 60's. I would play with her all the time. If you've never given her an egg, you are missing out. She will roll the egg over to a wall or chair leg, stand over it and hike it like a center against the wall to break it open. I used to slip Penny a hard boiled egg now and then just for fun. She would go nuts with them trying to break them open as though they were raw eggs. Everybody who came over with sandals on or bare footed had to be warned about the friend or foe skunk test. She would nip a toe then quickly back away to check their reaction. I'd tell them, "Don't react to her nip, she will never break skin, and she's waiting for a kick or a yelp to decide if she want's to have anything to do with you. A passive response will get you her attention and make a good friend." She never nipped a known toe twice, but never forgot the reaction, and ignored anyone whose reaction to her test did not please her. I would catch sand crabs on the beach and bring them up for Penny to play with and eat. They looked like an egg to her and she'd hike them up against a wall. That would light them up and they'd start running across the floor and she'd chase them down and hike 'em across the floor for fun (I guess) before settling down for a nosh at the crab's expense. She was, as is Lilly, a hoot and a very affectionate and clean little animal and very attached to all the members of our family. Now skunks as pets are illegal here---sadly. After all these years I still think of her quite fondly.

She actually would probably never have sprayed you if she still had her glands. I've had several Skunks that still had their scent glands over the years, and never had an incident. They "threaten" to spray as part of their play. As with all animals, play is typically a rehearsal for vital life skills that they need to survive.

Wow she is super cool. I saw my Mom catch a wild skunk one time like it was nothing. A skunk had strolled into our camp and my mom walked over and picked it up by the tail and held it out with it hanging straight down. They can't spray unless their tail is up. She walked it out of camp set it on the ground and strolled back to the fire. All of us kids were in shock like "Mom, that was a skunk. Are you crazy?". She said she had caught dozens of skunks and had them for pets when she was a kid. Not de-scented though so they lived outside. She did ask if we noticed that she was holding it out away from her. Which we did then she said that was a hard learned lesson early in her skunk catching days. I guess one got ahold of her and ripped her up.

More over so when she knows she is walking home . She also goes swimming in the hottest part of the summer . She will swim almost 20 meters and sometimes sits in the water afterword to stay cool during the hottest part of the summer .

Every domestic animal started as a wild animal. Skunks are in no danger of extinction or anything. I think it's fine. You want a pet skunk, pet possum, pet raccoon, as long as you know what you're getting into and you're OK with it, I see it as no different than a pet mouse or rat. They're all rodents except the raccoon, who may as well be a rodent. Raccoons are going to outlast us and survive the apocalypse. Skunks probably will too :)

    Enjoyed this video so much
I fed skunks the first day I moved to the rural area. I like them around because they keep people away. I worked 7 days a week, away from home, so skunks were my solution. People are more afraid of a skunk than most dogs.
They do get fat, I had one as broad as she was long. I make microwave bread for them. But, they also eat up the garden.
I believe my compost piles also draw them to my place.
I scuff my feet and they run away, except for one little fellow, he started to run away, gave it a second thought and came back at me.
Thank goodness I was in the kitchen door, so slammed it shut and saved myself.
He was no bigger than my fist, he is 2yearss old now and still feisty, others never had his disposition. He'll probably get me one day ,as I'm 8I and can't move that fast.

Laws can be very different: In Germany we don't need a licence at all, but descenting a skunk is strictly forbidden as it is considered animal cruelty. Nevertheless, they are somewhat accepted as pets and as I learnt from a local owner, they really do spray very rarely when they grow up around humans. As kittens they sometimes do it because they don't realise how much they stink, but usually after the first two weeks they have learned that spraying is no fun. They hate their own stink more than we do. A local breeder told me that of the 100 or so skunks he has raised, only two have sprayed after the first month and they mostly did it to each other and never to the breeder. Still, they often proudly display their warning signs when they are upset or sometimes just because they are playful.
To my own surprise, skunks have never made it into the german wilerness because of.... Snakes! Believe it or not, the few snakes in Germany, most of which are not even venomous, are incredibly good at killing skunks - because the most common, the grass snakes - are spraying a stinky secret themselves and simply don't care about stink. We often have grass snakes taking a sun bath next to our swimming pool, they are as harmless as it gets, as I kid I often just played with them, with me ending up stinky and bitten all over but I had fun.
About the smell, the european pole cat can spray a stink which smells very similiar but only for around 30-50cm. But they also use it to mark their territory which basically means they walk around their territory and stink up the place every week or two. If you live near a forest you have the smell pretty much always around you. And yes, we have several pole cats in the woods next to our garden and it pretty much stinks the whole year a bit like skunk. You get used to it.

We gave them some of what we had at the time, they were straight begging. Adults said go ahead we dont want them angry at us,lol. But,even after we didnt have anything to give them. They stayed around some of them just to be petted and just kept coming back and standing by the chair to be pet. Not all of them prob 4 or 5. Even after that a few just stayed laying on the ground near awhile,it was wild.

I have 3 fur babies SNOOPY . SCOOTER. AND SAMMY. plus one Rabbit . Scooter and Snoopy mainly keep to them selves. Sammy he is separated from the 2 older skunks . All 3 have their likes and dislikes . Snoopy likes scramble eggs so does Sammy . Plus vegetables. Carrots etc... Scooter does not like eggs some veggies yes . Like fruits grapes apples and all 3 like fresh cooked meat . Ground beef and turkey meat all mixed in with veggies . The 2 older boys like their water with ice cubes . At times I gotta limit Sammy on his drinking water .. they get a bath once a week . . Now about the biting . Scooter is black n white he would bite alot and boy did it hurt . . Every time after his bath he gets rewarded for being a good boy. He gets strawberry flavor sugar free wafers. He will wabble he weighs around 40 to 50 pds Snoopy is brown and white he is a bluff lol he grunts and squeals at times but it's all bluff because I get a hold of him. He cubbles up to me gives me hugs .as I baby talk to him he would always escape his fenced in spot and get under the recliners climbed the fence . .. Sammy he is own little fella his fenced in kennel is open during the say because all he does is come out looks for me then goes back to his bed feeling safe I guess yeah he will go from his bed to his liter box drink of water and to bed . Sammy is our younger baby. He plays with Pepper our Rabbit . I trained pepper to. Bring me her ball or let's play ball. She also gets a bath it's kinda tricky to catch her at times but once I get her calmed down she gives in . As I give her a bath she will. Keep looking up to me as I pour warm water on her back plus baby talk her tell her she is pretty and that mama loves her also . I get reactions when I go buy their meals or liter when I mention skunks I Get excuse me did you say Skunks ? I say yes 3 of them then I show them pictures etc... they asked where did you get them from ? I tell them . RUBY FUR FARM HERE IN IOWA . Some states don't allow domestic animals as pets . But hey they will give so much love to whom ever . They are a one owner pet though . They will bond to one person or maybe 2 . My husband and I. But mostly with me . They know the word NO . Go potty . And night night . And love you babies . They all get attention of love . Now they do require your time . Skunks as pets is not for everyone .think and do your research before you get one . Many people do not do the research and say they are so cute . Yes they are but like any other animal they got that wild side still . Some people set them free with that skunk would not be able to survive nor protect it self. Some send them to another fur farm. Where they die. Because not enough attention given . So think about it .. other then that to me they are easy to care for. God's creation is so amazing even in the smallest little bodies

RUclips channels need to stop making think people owning wild animals is a good idea and people need to stop getting pets they're not gonna take care of.
Shelters are swelling with unwanted pets cus the unnameable event ended so they werent needed by their selfish owners anymore. Ppl suck.

My skunk is verrrrry picky. Only wants dog food, meal worms, and almonds. He doesn't want anything else.
My skunk is very clean. After every meal, he cleans himself for 30 minutes, if you spray him with water, then he stops what he is doing and cleans himself. But of course, he hates baths.
When people ask me if that is a skunk, I tell them "NO", it is a cat. Then you see them thinking. """""""""""""
My skunk is very possessive with my wife. She is the only one that can hold him.

I would call my skunk Chanel, but I will never get one. My neighbor helped a wild skunk that had stuck her head in a jar.
She approached the skunk talking gently to her saying I will help you but dont spray me. At first the skunk went away, then she came close and let the lady held the jar and she pulled her head out. She didn't spray her benefactor, and got on her way. Thank you for your interesting presentation. Lily is very cute and amazing.

Did he actual NOTICE That sthe poor skunk was LITERALLY A WILD ANIMAL??? I worry for that animal's welfare if he didnt get why he had to go THROUGH all that trouble. The aninal wasnt meant for domestication so you could have a new toy.
I love a great rescue story. But not for someone's needs.. or for sh1ts and giggles.

I found a baby skunk separated from its mother and brought it home. Its fur was softer than a kitten’s. In Texas you can’t have skunks as pets 😢. Was so disappointed. I fed it some turkey and released back into the wild after a few hours.

I encountered a couple of short videos on RUclips with wild skunks in them (there are no skunks in my country) and I immediately noticed that they make an overall cat-like impression, and at that point I knew there would be videos about pet skunks and this is the first one I've watched.
I finally have the last spot in my animals top-3 taken! It goes:
    1) cats
    2) foxes
    3) skunks
for know... maybe I'll grow even fonder of these little guys

Jesus Christ is the Master Creator of all; Romans 10:9-10 from the Bible: “That if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart man believes to righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made to salvation.”

9.22. Here s the Icon you need Gary ! Shows us how you ReAlllly feel about your sweet Lily. :) I Almost didn t click , because your face looked so.. . ..disappointed .
So glad I clicked. :) Loved your share. Lily is Adorable.
We live on farm with out buildings, near pond ,woods and we live with all kinds of wild animals. Skunks come out at dawn, usually, , for cat food, banana s, carrots, marshmallows whatever... Like you said, they all have there preferences and personalities.
One night, my cat pushed the unclenched kitchen door opened , followed by a 4 month old Mr. Or Missy skunk. it went straight to cats food plate. Lol. They are used to my voice I guess, because, I chatted her up through her noum noums and after her fill, I opened the door and off he or she , went to whence it came.
The 4 cats and I, KNOW who is boss too. Your both adorable... blessings..

What was Lily eating? It looked like a hot pepper, but supposedly skunks are repelled by hot peppers. As mammals, one would expect by default they would be sensitive to the heat from the capsicum--unlike birds.

Sugar gliders are the best pets. I've had a raccoon, squirel, alligator, skunk, lizards, snakes, fish, cat, dog, salamanders, insects, white tale deer, owl, hawk, eagle, beaver, and a few others species.
But hands down, the best pets are sugar gliders.
