I had a skunk when I was a kid. He was very playful and loved playing with me, very fun. He was also very sassy and would frequently make fake charges at me and stuff like that. He was a fun lil guy.
Stayed at a friend’s house in the 70’s. In the middle of the night, something nibbled on my toes. It was their albino skunk. Slept in a cabinet during the day.
I had a squirrel as a kid. Named him Stuart after Stuart Little. Only kept him domestic for about a year though, then he built a nest in the roof of the pool shed. Still came in the house pretty often. I miss the little guy.
I used to have a pet skunk named Byron and he was an enormous cuddlebug too. He'd paw at my leg when I am sitting at my desk and wanted uppies and then he'd snug in under my t-shirt, wiggled until comfortable and he'd let out this tiny content sigh before sleeping. He was a brown and white hooded skunk.
She actually would probably never have sprayed you if she still had her glands. I've had several Skunks that still had their scent glands over the years, and never had an incident. They "threaten" to spray as part of their play. As with all animals, play is typically a rehearsal for vital life skills that they need to survive.
Yup..tucking head cozies..thats a skunk! My wild buddy Flower climbed onto me sleeping on my lounge chair, first physical contact was snuggling into my shoulder & waking me up..I started petting her thinking was neighborhood cat! Elevated my heart rate!😂Then we were gooood🥰❤️🦨

We had a skunk when I was a kid back in the late 50's and 60's. I would play with her all the time. If you've never given her an egg, you are missing out. She will roll the egg over to a wall or chair leg, stand over it and hike it like a center against the wall to break it open. I used to slip Penny a hard boiled egg now and then just for fun. She would go nuts with them trying to break them open as though they were raw eggs. Everybody who came over with sandals on or bare footed had to be warned about the friend or foe skunk test. She would nip a toe then quickly back away to check their reaction. I'd tell them, "Don't react to her nip, she will never break skin, and she's waiting for a kick or a yelp to decide if she want's to have anything to do with you. A passive response will get you her attention and make a good friend." She never nipped a known toe twice, but never forgot the reaction, and ignored anyone whose reaction to her test did not please her. I would catch sand crabs on the beach and bring them up for Penny to play with and eat. They looked like an egg to her and she'd hike them up against a wall. That would light them up and they'd start running across the floor and she'd chase them down and hike 'em across the floor for fun (I guess) before settling down for a nosh at the crab's expense. She was, as is Lilly, a hoot and a very affectionate and clean little animal and very attached to all the members of our family. Now skunks as pets are illegal here---sadly. After all these years I still think of her quite fondly.
We had two pet skunks when I was a kid. Both were rescues. Unfortunately we lost one soon after getting her. We didn’t have them at the same time. The male is the one that we had the longest. Highly intelligent! We had a baby gate that you actually had to pinch the mechanism, lift up and then swing it out. He figured out that if he bit it and jumped back, he could open that gate. He absolutely loved to swim, but would scream if you tried to give him a bath. We lived on the lake and he was constantly trying to run for the water. If you went to put shampoo on him, he would scream as if you were murdering him. He liked to sleep under the vanity in the bathroom. Anytime us kids had somebody stay the night you could hear them scream because he would pop his little nose out from underneath the vanity and go climb into their pants down around their ankles cuddle up. He never messed with Froot Loops, but boy did he love sugar cookies! There was not a sugar cookie safe in the house. This was years and years ago and we would take him to the drive-in with us and put him on the dashboard while we watched the movie. He would just run back-and-forth trying to steal sugar cookies. We would kind of wrestle with him now and then, and it never hurt when he bit us. He loved when we rolled him over across the floor, though. I have big dogs now, so it would not be a good idea to get another skunk, but I have been thinking for the past several years about getting another one or two some day. People really don’t understand just how good of pets they can be.
i heard that with animals .. like dogs.. (and maybe this is true for skunks too). the running water in a bathtub bathroom is very intense auditorily. Also, the blow dryer used is too.. so people devised a way to make the environment much less noisy. like doing the bath in a place that does not have all the surfaces that bounce sound.. and also don't use the loud running water faucet. I think they just put some water in some other container that they can use to rinse off the animal.
When i was a kid we went to the smoky mountains sleeping in an rv park/tent park so on in a pop up camper. Sitting outside roasting the mellows and about 12 of them just showed up all at once. We gave them some of what we had at the time, they were straight begging. Adults said go ahead we dont want them angry at us,lol. But,even after we didnt have anything to give them. They stayed around some of them just to be petted and just kept coming back and standing by the chair to be pet. Not all of them prob 4 or 5. Even after that a few just stayed laying on the ground near awhile,it was wild.
That's how a skunk found me when I was homeless last year, he was eating my cats food and I woke up. Startled me at first but skunks are very docile. Just be quiet and they won't spray at least that's been my experience. 😂 I miss that little guy
We love skunks! We had them hang out in our yard when we lived in Santa Cruz, CA, and they were never a problem for us. We learned that Great Horned Owls will eat skunks... so keep Lily safe!!
We had a wild baby skunk brought to us at about 5 weeks she lived just over 8 yrs. Ours was never descended and she never sprayed. We got the mock spray where she would turn and look over her shoulder and fluff up her tail. Skunks look before shooting. Ours loved sweet potato and carrots so much her white turned pinkish orange. They also stomp their feet too. I miss my Bella.

I have always thought skunks were adorable, and wanted one as a pet. I know they’re smart and just the cutest things. Thank you for posting this. And I think I want to go with a skunk rescue if possible, though, instead of a breeder. They are wild animals, but if they can’t be in the wild, I would definitely love to have one!
Every domestic animal started as a wild animal. Skunks are in no danger of extinction or anything. I think it's fine. You want a pet skunk, pet possum, pet raccoon, as long as you know what you're getting into and you're OK with it, I see it as no different than a pet mouse or rat. They're all rodents except the raccoon, who may as well be a rodent. Raccoons are going to outlast us and survive the apocalypse. Skunks probably will too :)

Used to have a skunk that would visit me in my backyard, she would come up and sit on my foot and that meant she wanted me to lift her up to my lap, never was sprayed but she did the stompy dance whenever she was mad I was out of treats for her
My brother had a skunk. After several months I asked him what the sunk was like.
"Well," he replied, "he ain't much for brains but he's hell for cute."
Ahhh loved this video mate. Lilly is a little character ❤
