    I had LASIK done! I recommend it 20/10.
    Your doctor would tell you which surgery you are a candidate for based on most things explained in this video.
    They also numb your eyes with two drops in each eye that burn like crazy for about a minute, then they use something that looks like an Apple Pencil in your eye and that measures the cornea thickness.
    I had the tests done twice before the surgery just so your surgeon really does make a safe and sound decision on which one is best for you, then they tell you if they are able to correct your vision to 20/20.
    My surgery was quick, about 15 min and I would do it again if I had to because seeing without glasses is unparalleled, not even contacts get you this kind of viewing sharpness.
    Not gonna lie, you get a little bit of anxiety during the procedure because there’s a lot of light and it really does bother when undergoing surgery, I was struggling to keep my eyes open and that stressed me a bit, but you need to go with a clear mind and pay close attention to the surgeon’s instructions, do every single thing they say and you will be fine.
    I’d recommend taking some calming tea beforehand, don’t take anything that will make you drowsy, you can eat perfectly normal before and after surgery, which is awesome.
    If you get surgery early in the morning like I did, you’d better ask your surgeon or PCP to prescribe you some drugs to put you to sleep, then after the surgery sleep as much as you can, full dark room and your vision will heal perfectly well. Also, don’t skip your eye drops, they’ll ask you to put them on both eyes almost every hour, I had to set up alarms to wake up, put them on and go back to sleep.
    Wear your eye protectors for as long as your doctor mandates, don’t get water or soap near your eyes. Your doctor will tell you that you can’t wash your hair in like a week, but I couldn’t stand that, so I bought a snorkel 🤿 waterproof mask and took showers as usual.
    Just make sure you clean your mask very well with a dry towel before removing your mask and you will be great.
    I would not recommend using swimming glasses (the regular ones) cause of the suction they create in the eye sockets and could give you raccoon eyes, but the scuba mask was great in my experience and sealed everything perfectly from my mid forehead, nose and the upper part of my cheekbones, meaning that they don’t touch anywhere near your eyes.
    ***This is my experience only, always consult with your doctor***

    Just got SMILE done yesterday. Surgery isn't painful whatsoever. After the surgery, your vision is cloudy and it will feel like you have an eyelash or something else in your eye, so it's an annoying feeling but nothing painful. The second day, my vision is already so much better. Not completely 20/20 yet, but pretty damn close. No pain or burning in the eyes whatsoever. They'll feel ever so slightly dry, but a few artificial tears and you're good.

      I work in ophthalmology, not a doctor by any means, but most common surgery is Lasik, if your corneas are too thin or if you work in a job where you could jeopardize the healing process of Lasik (sense they are creating a flap on your cornea) then they would do PRK.

    How duriable is the eye after SMILE? With LASIK and traumatic hit or pressure can induce the flap coming loose hence why many service members opted for PRK.

    • @MDanielClark
      @MDanielClark 7 месяцев назад +1

      I remember PRK was suggested to me in the Air Force for this reason - they didn’t approve of the innate structural weakness of lasik (which I doubt is a risk for most people unless you expect contact to the eye). SMILE apparently preserves more of the cornea than either other procedure, and if available it’s what I would be getting through the service. There’s no flap to come loose.

      @@4kttrollgoat38 it's just a method that is reaching some other part of the eye or something like that. I am not a doctor, but when I got tested for eye surgery eligibility, since I told my doctor, that I am also into combat sports, the answer is only PRK. It's also cool for patients with thin cornea.
      If you get LASIK for instance, a punch around your eye could lead to serious consequences, affecting EVEN the healed eye. With PRK, you can take as much punch as you want 💪🏻😎
      If you're a combat athlete, you will bear the longer or maybe more uncomfortable healing process of PRK.

      I hope you have done the research thoroughly - If you have any doubts delay.
      I look at SMILE & LASIK in this way, it's like taking a scouring pad and scrubbing a precision high definition lens to polish it - you end up with scratches or in laser surgery cases halos & star bursts with loss of depth of vision in your night vision. So if you drive a car your vision acuity may well be compromised. Please be warned.

      Do your research please! - consult as many specialists as you can as all surgeons are not equally talented/skilled/informed. In my experience I consulted 3 corneal specialists before an ophthalmologist correctly diagnosed a pterygium and referred me to a 4th specialist who surgically treated the issue and advised me to wait (3 years) before considering LASIK - I took away a medical hard copy volume that explained LASIK in full (although a dated copy from his library the information was relevant). In that time the contours of the eyes change and readings/scans or measurements can be affected - and finally when you do undergo any scan procedures make sure that their equipment is calibrated to confirm accurate findings. Be warned and informed.

    Can dry eye be permanent and incurable?

    • @oseasviewer7108
      @oseasviewer7108 11 месяцев назад

      It is long term and can take years to resolve - keep a supply of preservative free eye lubricant in disposable phials and 'water' your eyes frequently (3 times a day) - maintain hand hygiene and a supply of tissues to guard against infection.
      For me it took 10-12 years to resolve. Consider taking vitamin supplements to aid healing - do the reading I cannot recommend any in particular because everyone responds differently. And try and maintain good nutrition (eliminate junk food).
      Alcohol consumption/smoking will frustrate the problem.
      Finally, protect your eyes (eyewear with UV protection and complete wraparound when outdoors) and always wear eye protection if you are painting or engaging in any manual work.
      Good luck.

    I had SMILE in 2019. It has ruined my eyes. I cannot open my eyes beyond a crack, I have constant pain due to corneal neuragia, chronic devastating dry eyes, poorly healed corneal nerves, filamentary keratitis, recurrant erosions, poor uncorrectable vision and more dependance on glasses than before. I have been housebound and unable to work or drive for the past 3 years fighting suicidal thoughts every day. This appalling industry is unregulated and unethical surgeons like Rex should be banned from operating on healthy eyes. Please research into Dr Morris Waxler and his advice before letting surgeons loose on your precious eyes. BTW this surgery was the type that caused Jessica Starr to take her life. RIP.
