I had it done and yeah the first day was pretty awful but I just kept taking the pain meds and sleep meds until it was the next day.... then it was only an 8/10.
I also had PRK, the worst I felt was 3/4 out of 10 but I wouldn’t say pain it was more like discomfort. I had it done March 12. I got LASIK almost five years ago, and it's honestly been a life-changer. Waking up in the morning and being able to see, traveling and not worrying I'll run out of contacts or lose my glasses, being able to swim without extremely expensive prescription googles, watching a movie or even TV and being able to see finer details... It's some of the best money I've ever spent on myself.
You do not need this. Laser eye surgery is extremely dangerous. Anyone considering it should be aware of that. Most people who have told me they have had it done, have had some kinds of problems, many of them serious and life-changing. I've had it done myself and it has ruined my life. Years on, my vision is still blurred and I am still in pain.

Lasik not only improved my vision, it improved my quality of life. Up until my surgery, I dealt with almost daily headaches behind my eyes. My mom was so freaked out by it she had an MRI done on me to make sure there wasn’t something wrong with my brain. After Lasik, NO MORE HEADACHES. My guess is my eyes were under constant strain since my vision sucked so bad, and then factor in the discomfort of contacts too. A month after the surgery, my mom actually cried when I told her I hadn’t had a single headache since.
I had daily headaches before I had LASIK, too! But I only got them when I wore my glasses. Despite getting them made out of the lightest materials available, the weight of the eyeglasses on my nose gave me very annoying headaches.
had LASEK and it hurts for like 4 days (equivalent to someone stinging one thousand needles in your eyes when you try to sleep but you get used to it on the third day). But after they take out the protective lense, it's like seeing a new word. truly grateful for this technology
I got lasik. Doctor told me to pass out as soon as I got home. I didn’t really experience pain, and I was good to return to work 2 days later. Totally worth it
Common knowledge your eyes clean itself every time you blink. Unless you suffer dry eyes or chronic dryness you or have some form of diseases in the eye, your eyes are constantly bathe in your body fluid
Stop acting stupid. You've either watched a Business Insider video in the past or Business Insider falls into a category of channel you've watched before.
same. I cut my cornea once and that hurt a lot, I can’t imagine how I would do with this. I still want to have it done though bc glasses are such a pain :(
If you are a canidate, its totally worth it. It just feels like you have an eye lash stuck in your eye for 3-4 days after the sugery, but the pain killers remedy that. Just do your research and be sure to find an opthalmologist who has plenty of experience.
It is worth it, and the sooner you can get it done the more of a return you get. I went through it this year and I was nervous as hell. They provide you Valium, they directly numb your eye. The machines can pick up on eye movements and will stop instantly if there is a change, and then continue again once it finds the correct alignment again. Your eyelids are held back with specialized surgical tape as shown in the video, and your eye is held in place by something (I couldn't see what it was, but it sets on your eye and applies a little bit of pressure) so your eye movement is mitigated. The flap procedure takes a minute or so, and then you are rotated to the main laser. This takes another minute and then your flap is replaced and you can close your eye. Each eye takes under five minutes for the whole process. I recommend having a family member or friend you can trust help with drops and food/water on the first day, but after that just don't rub your eyes or get them wet. The way they make the flap is pretty incredible. Once they replace the flap it is basically sealed as if the cut was never made. The cornea still needs to heal though, so you don't want to rub your eye or get water in it. The drops and vitamins, if they give you vitamins, help a lot too.
wow thank you , hope lots of people share their experiences, feelings and results , detailed day by day hour by hour, really apreaciate what you did ❤️
It makes me almost jealous of all the people who went through this surgery and are now living without glasses or contacts. Of course what's even more upsetting are the people with naturally good eyesight. But that's just life and ok with my glasses and contacts. If only just my other major health issues would go away, damn.
I got my tests done and was considered a good candidate for lasik. I have very high prescription glasses. My doctors still talked me out of the surgery. told me that it wasn't worth the risk. said that I'd be moving from one form of a physical handicap to another and probably will have to be forever in touch with eye doctors if stuff went wrong. If you can get away with glasses or contacts, nothing is worth the risk.
Not to scare anyone because I think this is rare but my dad did laser eye surgery and it just made it worse cuz something went wrong, his eyesight is now so bad he can’t wear glasses or contacts because none is strong enough. On the other hand his girlfriend did the surgery and it worked👍
You have to put eye drops in your eyes unless you want that expensive eye laser I have to put eye drops all you have to do is get your friend or mom lay on their lap look somewhere else when they put the eye drops you have to close your eyes for five minutes when your eyes are closed you have to wiggle them to get the eye drops to work more and your done! It seems scary but it doesn't hurt at all I have atleast taken 20 or 30 eye drops my entire life
there actually not that bad i was also scared, once i had pink eye and i hate to take eye drops every day two drops for each eye and in the morning, afternoon, and night. I was scared for the first two days then i got used to it
Thanks Michelle! Your video has helped me to feel less anxiety about getting eye surgery. I understand now that it isn't always easy afterwards but I shouldn't panic if full recovery takes some time. Some people seem to recover more quickly than others. Thanks Tech insider.
I got this done a week ago, been reading about different experiences and honestly I'm surprised by how a lot of people describe severe pain/discomfort/sight fluctuation. My eyes felt a bit dry and light-sensitive for the first few hours, but then it was like nothing even happened, and my vision was 100% immediately. So I guess for anyone considering this, take into consideration that the recovery is very different for each person.
@@_BMJ_ I had a surgery kind of like lasik but different so I assume the pain would about the same. I have a cornea disease called kerotoconus which causes the cornea to thin and become disformed so I had to have a surgery called crosslinking where they burn a whole into the cornea with alcohol and fill it in with a vitamin solution and cook it with a UV light for 30 minutes. As far as for the pain it really depends on the person. For my first eye the pain was fine and was only bad for a few hours but for my second one it lasted a few days. Ask your doctor for Valium and you can take half a one for anxiety if you have any before but I just saved it for aftrr the surgery to help me sleep and take a large dose of melatonin so you can sleep through the worst part after the surgery.
Pros of wearing glasses: - would look cute in certain style - looks slightly intelligent - protects your eyes from dust (protected me from hydrochloric acid once) Cons: - eating hot food is a pain - accidentally sitting on your glasses - forgot that you currently wear glass so you tried to search for it while wearing it - getting out of an air conditioned car is a pain - glasses slides down your nose when its oily - not suitable for all outfits (rarely seen anyone wearing a ball gown with glasses smh) - u gotta change it every few years cuz u get blinder every time - gotta wear it to the bathroom (bcus im that blind) - you cant lie down on lateral side while wearing glasses - you *will* be called a nerd - cant wear cool sunglasses unless u have a custom made prescription on it - u have to bring your glasses even in swimming pool - u cant do extreme activites while wearing glasses so u gotta do it while not seeing anything - have to do daily maintenance of keeping it clean
I got the same surgery. Definitely one of the best things Ive done for myself. Pain was pretty bad first few days. Funniest memory of the healing process was trying to play video games and getting frustrated when i couldnt push my glasses up to see better 😂
Awesome walk-through! Very descriptive, my experience was less painful, and I was questioning whether the medical contacts were still there after the first day
You should be looked after for the first hours after every surgery, since you will get some kind of anesthetic in most cases...my kid went to get sthg to eat with me after one and she said she had a ball bc I was still out of it af! ^^

Just done my blade Lasik last week No PAIN or PRESSURE during whole surgery But yes after surgery you will feel pressure, itchy, sore eyes. You might not even be able to open your eyes after surgery. All you need is good sleep to calm these issues. Procedure - Whole procedure takes around 40-45 minutes of your time of which 25-30 minutes goes for preparation of your eyes ( numbing and clearing eyes) Main surgery is of just 15 minutes. Mine went pretty well and without nervous as the staff was friendly. What to do after Lasik - Intense eye care No screen time for 2 days Sleep as much as you can Use black Goggles Use white goggle after 2 days of surgery If possible sleep with glasses on to prevent eyes from touching. What not to do - Touch eyes Watching tv mobile right after surgery What you will feel - Blury vision Halo Rainbow in white light Sensitivity to sunlight ( None of this happened to me at least) Overall good results. Happy with surgery.!

The problem with lasek Is that its useless if you do It before turning 26 because they external layer of the Eye would Just grow back to its deformed state
@@Creatorsan Generally every medical procedure has a expiry period - for example my tooth implant has 10 years. After that it is just depending upon how good u take care of it, the longer it lasts.
Excellent video on PRK. You described the process very well. PRK was approved in 1995 and I had both my eyes done with PRK at 30 and then 90 days after FDA approval (at that time they would only do one at a time.) My surgeon was involved in the pre-approval testing of the procedure. The only variance from your experience was that on my first eye, the surgical bandage contact popped out of my eye at 10pm that evening. At 11pm, the surgeon game me the option of going in and he would come in with the necessary surgical staff to take care of it. I decided to tough-it-out until 7am the next morning by taking a couple big doses (at his direction) of Codeine, and keeping my eyes shut until a new bandage contact was applied. I should have probably gone in at 11pm... it was the most painful evening of my entire life. BUT at about 3 weeks my eyes suddenly stabilized and I tested at 20/25. The best, even with corrective lenses, that I managed to get BEFORE PRK was 20/50. Without corrective lenses I was 20/200. The most striking memory I have of the whole ordeal was walking around my house and seeing crisp edges on EVERYTHING. I had never in my life seen such detail. Fast forward to today (5/28/2022), I still test at 20/25 or 20/30. I don't wear any corrective lenses... this vision is perfect to me. The only variance that I had from your procedure was that I had frequent issues with nystagmus (rapid twitching of the eyeball when attempting to focus on an object), so the surgeon had to literally clamp each eye and as an aid, left my other eye uncovered to help me focus on an object to prevent movement. The downside to this is I got to watch the smoke rise from my other eyeball as the laser did its thing! Again, great video!!

@@lavstarz Prior to surgery I was very nearsighted. I could see crystal clear everything up to about an inch or closer to my eye. After the surgery, that focal point immediately moved to about a foot from my face. Anything closer took effort.... but suddenly everything far away was MUCH clearer. I'm thinking that I may need a 'touch up' because my ability to read further away is getting just a tiny bit worse. Not bothersome, but I have noticed. Also... one of the side effects of PRK way back then was somewhat of a starburst effect with lights in the dark. That has improved for me over time... but I am curious to find out if currently technology has improved to the point of eliminating that.
I got ICLs implanted half a year ago. The nearsightedness is completely gone - but the operation left me with -0.5 diopters of astigmatism in my left eye, which reduces my visual acuity to 20/13 vision. At least the right eye tuned out okay. Got 20/10 vision without glasses on that one.

I am 74 years old and had lasik surgery a year ago. Would I do it again? Absolutely. My procedure was absolutely painless. I never would have thought that eye surgery would be painless, but it was! There was some discomfort around the small surgical area around the eye but unless I bumped the area with my hand I felt no discomfort. There was some "matting" in the eye in the morning after I woke up but that cleared up after 3 days. I continued using the prescribed drops for 10 days to prevent any infection from setting in. Other than that.....no hassles. I lost my near vision but was told about this before surgery so I already had purchased reading glasses. After postponing surgery for 2 years and losing the ability to drive at night this surgery gave my world back to me. Finally to those of you who need this surgery and are frightened about someone poking in your eyes do not fret as this procedure is 99% painless.
LASIK FOR ME WAS THE LIFE CHANGING DECISION My surgery went really good my vision was approx 100% clear within 2 -3 hrs of lasik surgery even the pain after lasik was very minimal it was just irritation and redness and the pain was gone within 3hrs of lasik after 3-4 hrs there wasn't any irritation or redness or pain . My vision became perfect !! All praise to God ❤🎊
Apparently there's 5 layers of safety security protecting the machine from acting up. Not sure if that's really the right number, but it's probably true, considering how much it costs and what it's for.
I had been looking forward to getting some form of laser eye surgery for just about my whole life. I started wearing glasses when I was around 8. In my mid 20s my glasses prescription finally stopped changing so I went to get assessed for laser and was told that my corneas are too thin so I’m ineligible for any type of laser eye surgery (not enough material to shave away/reshape). Devastated. Destined to be around a -6.5 script and spend way too much money on new glasses and contact lenses forever 😭
I started around that age to wear glasses and now im in my early 30s and my vission is somewhat stable enough for me to get an eye surgery but the problem is that my cornea is not only thin it is also uneven to the point that if my eyes get dry enough ... well lets just say the pain directly wake me up and blur my vision for almost the whole and make it insanly light sensible ( it feel like something is getting pulled out from my eye constantly ). I see my doctor once a year for check up and the scars that it had created as not worsen and gave me directive to follow to make sure they dont get dry. Once most of the scars are healed i will be able to do the first surgery to correct my cornea ( since trying to do it rn is too dangerous ) and after that i will be able to get the surgery for my vision.
Are you not even eligible for ICL (Implantable Collamer Lens)? This surgery is an alternative to lasik that doesn't alter/reshape the cornea. It's also recommended to people who has dry eyes.
@@miirasaika6437 I was offered something along those lines but the ophthalmologist essentially tried to talk me out of it (significantly emphasised the risks and things that have gone wrong in previous patients as opposed to speaking about the benefits) which was rather off-putting
@@gorechotuma not weird. Genetically my corneas are thin (same issue runs in my family) which means there’s not enough tissue to shave away and reshape to correct my vision. In fact shaving away anything would pose a danger to my eye because it’s just too thin.
They have a device that props your eyes open so that it's impossible to blink. I had no side effects afterwards. You'll be a little sensitive to light though for a couple of days but I figure thats normal. I just had to rest for hours and hours cuz your vision doesnt come in completely til like 12 hours after. So you wont really want to be doing anything anyways to trigger a headache or something since things are still blurry. Some people do experience migraine/headache the day of though. I pretty much just napped the whole day to make the healing part easier on myself.

I remember back in 2nd grade of elementary school, the special education teacher pulled me out of the classroom and told me I needed glasses. She and the school informed my parents and I got my first pair. I have changed glasses several times since then (About 1 every 1-3 years) and my eye sight has worsened every year.
That's nice to hear !!!
This is months later but this is so sweet your mom seems great
Probably you had a severe astigmatism. That's the cause for headaches.
I had daily headaches before I had LASIK, too! But I only got them when I wore my glasses. Despite getting them made out of the lightest materials available, the weight of the eyeglasses on my nose gave me very annoying headaches.
This happened to my mom. Would your eyes burn too.

same. I cut my cornea once and that hurt a lot, I can’t imagine how I would do with this. I still want to have it done though bc glasses are such a pain :(
That's what the valium was for
Trust the Science
Same, I panic when I gotta use eye drops.
wow thank you , hope lots of people share their experiences, feelings and results , detailed day by day hour by hour, really apreaciate what you did ❤️
It makes me almost jealous of all the people who went through this surgery and are now living without glasses or contacts.
Don't worry everything is for our good even the health issues we just need to be patient and just thank God.

- gotta wear it to the bathroom (bcus im that blind)
- you cant lie down on lateral side while wearing glasses
- you *will* be called a nerd
- cant wear cool sunglasses unless u have a custom made prescription on it
- u have to bring your glasses even in swimming pool
- u cant do extreme activites while wearing glasses so u gotta do it while not seeing anything
- have to do daily maintenance of keeping it clean

No PAIN or PRESSURE during whole surgery
But yes after surgery you will feel pressure, itchy, sore eyes. You might not even be able to open your eyes after surgery.
All you need is good sleep to calm these issues.
Procedure -
Whole procedure takes around 40-45 minutes of your time of which 25-30 minutes goes for preparation of your eyes ( numbing and clearing eyes)
Main surgery is of just 15 minutes.
Mine went pretty well and without nervous as the staff was friendly.
What to do after Lasik -
Intense eye care
No screen time for 2 days
Sleep as much as you can
Use black Goggles
Use white goggle after 2 days of surgery
If possible sleep with glasses on to prevent eyes from touching.
What not to do -
Touch eyes
Watching tv mobile right after surgery
What you will feel -
Blury vision
Halo
Rainbow in white light
Sensitivity to sunlight
( None of this happened to me at least)

How old are you? Do you wear glasses for reading now?
@@lavstarz I am now 60. I do not need glasses to read.... yet. I can still pass the DMV eye test.... but I have a feeling I will go get a touch-up sometime in the next couple of years. Would I do it all over again? YES!
@@wintercoder6687 thank you, very valuable feedback! Why do you think you will need a touch-up? For farsightedness or nearsightedness?

That's great! Well I heard that after around 10 years the eyesight gets less clear and after maybe 15 you'll have to go back to wearing specs, not sure if it's true, but glad yours went well!

Been 5 years for me. Best decision of my life too
Bro..i have -6.0 vision...but how much it is really safe...i want laser but fear bcoz of hearing various myths.Gosh!!
As someone who's had Lasik its genuinely amazing. I was pretty hesitant too but i would definitely recommend it.
Whats a good age to have lasik?
Not until something went wrong that your doctor can't explain and you'll have super dry eyes for the rest of your life.

LASIK FOR ME WAS THE LIFE CHANGING DECISION
My surgery went really good my vision was approx 100% clear within 2 -3 hrs of lasik surgery even the pain after lasik was very minimal it was just irritation and redness and the pain was gone within 3hrs of lasik
after 3-4 hrs there wasn't any irritation or redness or pain . My vision became perfect !!
All praise to God ❤🎊

Okay wait why im confused
starry moon he's referring to the year 2020.
That’s so weird! My prescription was about -7 in one eye and -7,5 in another and I was eligible..
@@gorechotuma not weird. Genetically my corneas are thin (same issue runs in my family) which means there’s not enough tissue to shave away and reshape to correct my vision. In fact shaving away anything would pose a danger to my eye because it’s just too thin.
I did Relex. 100% vision on the second day. Best spur-of-the-moment decision of my life yet.

I had lasik 3 or 4 years ago. One of the best things I ever did. It really does take 15 minutes and you really appreciate the results afterwards.
Howdo you keep ur eyes open it hurts doesn't it. Im terrified to do it.
Do you feel any minor side effects?
My lasik hasn't even came back
They have a device that props your eyes open so that it's impossible to blink.
I see you everywhereeeee
Woooow, just woooow! I want to get this done but I'm scared that my eye sight will get worse after the surgery being that my vision is absolutely terrible right now. This is amazing. Thank you for your story!
I had lasik eye surgery last July at age 19 and I could see perfectly the next morning. I honestly didn’t feel anything during the procedure. It’s the best thing I’ve ever paid for.
2000 years ago, the God that loves you pu His Son on a Cross to save you from HELL. you see, something named sin is the need for a place called HELL. sin is anything wrong that we do against a Holy God. Everything wrong like lying, (have you ever lied before), stealing, blaspheming God name (aka OMG, saying It without regard of God's Holiness. Have you ever cheated on something before? Hatred, Malice, Envy. Have you ever hated someone before? Have you ever hated someone before? Have you ever envied someone before? This is death. Sin. Going before the throne of a Holy God on Judgement Day ay the end of our lives, we will be judged for all the sin we have committed. If there is any sin the person will be sent to HELL. now this is The Good News: Jesus Christ died in your place, in the place of sinners. I don’t have glasses and this is very fascinating
I remember back in 2nd grade of elementary school, the special education teacher pulled me out of the classroom and told me I needed glasses. She and the school informed my parents and I got my first pair. I have changed glasses several times since then (About 1 every 1-3 years) and my eye sight has worsened every year. I think it has been about a few years now since I have seen myself in the mirror without glasses on (When I take them off, I have to put my face right in front of the mirror and nose about 1cm away to be able to makeout my face). The first time I got contacts was amazing. It was like a whole new world compared to glasses. Driving is different, the way I see people is different, the lighting is different. But still, its a filter nonethless. Treasure your eyes. They are the only pair you will ever have :)

@@SaiTama-kf7lw hahaha
@@deancaleb1741 the procedure did not hurt. They give u eye drops before that help to numb your eye. If anything you might feel some slight pressure. For some people after the procedure it might feel like you have soap in your eyes for a short time. I was one of them. I would do it again! I was not even sedated...there was a miscommunication and I did not receive the paper to pick up the vallium from my pharmacy..soo I literally sat there on edge. It was still worth it.
3:55 Nursing student here! It's _always_ easier to manage a smaller amount of pain and keep it at that level than to try to bring down a 10/10 pain rating to a more manageable level (that might still hurt, but at least it's tolerable and not a 10!)
Eyes are one of the fastest recovering organs in the human body. My dad was a few of the first to test out laser eye surgery in a certain company that now covers a good amount of lasik surgery in america, I forgot what company they were called. My dad experienced no pain, just a little irritation but his eye healed in less than a day and got the other one done. Hers took a little bit longer due to them doing a different procedure from the lack of moisture. He's now close to 50 and his eyes are still well. Hoping to get mine done sometime near the future
It depends on your pain tolerance for post surgery and your body's healing process

@@zuhasajid900 Please, please think very seriously about this. Laser eye surgery is extremely dangerous. Anyone considering it should be aware of that.
I've had it done myself and it has ruined my life. Years on, my vision is still blurred and I am still in pain.
Most people who have told me they have had it done, have had some kinds of problems, many of them serious and life-changing. The employees of these companies are usually on commission and commonly lie to you.
Getting eye surgery was the best decision I ever made! Yes, it was painful and the healing was long, but it was sooooo worth it! I went from having 7 in far-sightedness to 20/20 vision.
The only part that kinda hurt for me was the creation of the flap, Idk if the eye drops didn't fully numb my eye or if it was all mental or what but i did feel that part and it was like a sharp pain in my eye lid not even my eye, but it was brief. As for the healing, it only took me 4 hours to see clearly, a day or two for the dry eyes to go away, and after a week i was done with the eye drops and didn't have any discomfort.
Thanks Michelle and everyone else involved in this video. I want to get laser eye surgery in the near future and this video was perfect in what to expect in the surgery and the recovery period.
