LASIK, or "laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis," is the most commonly performed laser eye surgery to treat myopia, hyperopia and astigmatism. The goal of the treatment is to reshape the cornea to correct the refractive error of the eye.
The cornea is the transparent dome-shaped structure in front of the eye. The cornea refracts light and accounts for about two-thirds of the eye's total optical power. Altering the curvature of the cornea changes the way light rays enter the eye. As a result, the light rays can be focused properly onto the retina for clearer vision.
For nearsighted people, the laser is used to flatten the cornea. For farsighted people, the cornea is made steeper. For patients with astigmatism, the laser is used to smooth the irregularly-shaped cornea into a more regular shape.
The outer layer of the cornea - the epithelium - is capable of replacing itself within a few days after being damaged or removed. The deeper layer of the cornea - the stroma, on the contrary, is a permanent corneal tissue with very limited regenerative capacity. The stroma, if reshaped by a laser, will remain that way permanently.
In this procedure, a thin, circular "FLAP" is created in the surface of the cornea to gain access to the permanent corneal tissue. This can be done with a mechanical cutting tool called a microkeratome, OR, for a blade-free experience, by a femtosecond laser. An excimer laser is then used to remove some corneal tissue to reshape the cornea. Excimer laser uses cool ultraviolet light beams to vaporize microscopic amounts of tissue in a precise manner to accurately reshape the cornea. The excimer laser is computer-controlled and is programmed based on the patient’s refractive error. The flap is then laid back in place and is allowed to heal.
LASIK eye surgery is mostly painless and can be completed within minutes. Improved vision can usually be seen overnight.
PRK, or photorefractive keratectomy, was the first type of laser eye surgery for vision correction and is the predecessor to the popular LASIK procedure. In PRK, NO flap is created. Rather, the epithelial cells on the eye surface are simply removed. An excimer laser is then used to reshape the cornea just like it does in LASIK.
The vision correction outcomes of PRK surgery are comparable to those of LASIK, but the recovery period is longer. This is because the epithelium is completely removed in PRK and it takes a few days to regenerate. PRK patients also have more discomfort and haziness of vision in the first few days after the surgery. Improved vision also takes longer to achieve.
PRK does, however, offer certain advantages. Because PRK does not involve creation of a flap, which contains both epithelial and deeper stromal tissue, the entire thickness of the stroma is available for treatment. The treatment range is therefore higher. This is particularly useful for patients with high levels of myopia or for those whose cornea is too thin for LASIK. PRK is also free of flap-related complication risks.

History of my PRK (in 2021)
- day 1-day 3: PRK at 10 am, stayed only in bed with eyes closed all the time, tears, swollen eyes, foreign body sensation like grains of sand in the eye and burning pain. opening eyes was very painful. heard a lot of audio books.
- day 4: significant improvement. I was able to keep my eyes open again for several hours with breaks, vision has improved, less cloudy. I switched screens to dark mode and enlarged the text. screen work for a few minutes possible. I went to the supermarket but was super difficult to find the stuff I needed.
- day 5: screen work for 1.5 hours, 1st time washing hair, taking care not to get water in my eyes.
- day 6: screen work for 2 hours, removal of the protective lens and short check up, the right eye seems to have better vision than the left eye, 1st time running again for 1 hour.
- day 7: screen work possible for 3 hours, moderate strength training was possible with attention, low pressure and therefore little weights. the first 2 cans eye drops are empty (each has 10ml). I ordered the eye drops from amazon (6 more) so I can have one in each room and bag that I always have them around me and use them (super important for healing).
- day 8:screen work possible for 4 hours, the gray, cloudy vision is gone.
- day 9-12: screen work possible for 6 hours with normal brightness and normal text size (still blurry, double images and very exhausting to do screen work). Continue to run and do weight training moderately. Left eye seems worse than right eye, pain in left eye socket, feeling of pressure in the eye. I'm also very sensitive to light. I have the feeling that focusing takes a few milliseconds longer (looking up close from a distance and vice versa).
- day 13: check up and 1st eye test: doctor says the eyes are ok but heal a little slowly. I should take more eye drops. eye drops, eye drops, eye drops!
- day 14: wearing mascara for the first time again.
- day 35: 2st eye test 90% on both eyes!
- day 50: still very sensitive to light at night. Could wear sunglasses all the time.
- Day 77: surfing in the salty sea with lots of salty water in my eyes. was no problem for me.
- day 93: 3rd eye test says 110% each eye. not sensitive to light anymore. I only take the eye drops after getting up. doctor said that the healing is not yet complete and said that i might still be able to see a little better and richer in contrast.
Resume: I would do it again but you should be aware that it takes a long time until your eyes are healed. If you need a screen for work take at least 2 weeks off. And don’t forget to drop.

I was a candidate for both LASIK and PRK but chose the latter. LASIK's risk factors (corneal flap complications and dry eye) were a deal breaker. I highly recommend PRK...I used to wear a -6.00 in both eyes, now I'm 20/20.

I had the PRK surgery done around 2 weeks ago and I am still very sensitive to light (I have to wear sunglasses even inside the house). Hopefully it’ll go away, but I can see almost perfectly now and the surgery did not hurt at all. It hurts for the first 3 days of recovery but it’s very tolerable and I don’t regret it at all.
UPDATE (August 4 2022): it’s been 7 months since my surgery and I have a side effect from it called “dry eyes”. It strains my eyes more than usual and if I’m on my phone too much or if I force it a lot, my eyes get tired and fatigued at night. It happens almost every day and it can be exhausting and annoying. As for the eye sight, I can still see perfectly, but I have dry eyes now unfortunately. I’m going to my doctor tomorrow to get a better treatment for it.
UPDATE: (august 22) My doctor prescribed me a different medication and it’s working so far, my eyes are less dry than before and also less weak.

FOR ALL THE PEOPLE THINKING OF GETTING LASIK. But are afraid after watching the procedure,let me tell you the procedure is not as horrifying as we see in the videos.I am 27 years old, I have done Lasik last month. Although some dimness and heavyness sensation occurred for about 3days I am 100% complications free now. This is the best investment I have done in my life and if I had to do it again I would do it without any second thought. Hope it helps anyone.

I feel like PRK is generally better than Lasik. It's main downside seems to be that it takes longer to heal, but less overall damage is done and it often has better long-term outcomes. It's also better if you're someone prone to dry eyes.

Did PRK 4 days ago. Eyes are still healing but much better. The first 2 days I experienced the worst pain ever

@@maz9466 To be totally fair only the eye doctor can determinate if you are a good candidate or not for PRK, but for me TransPRK is the most favorite because is not invasive and the side effects are less then other surgeryes and at -5.00 we should be good candidates. 80+% of USA army chose PRK as a refractive error surgery so I guess that's a plus to also chose it aswell, and PRK tech is already 40+ years old and used by alot of people's because is a reliable technology and everything is know already in the 40+ years of use and research like side effects.

I've done prk two week ago, the operation is short 12-10 maybe less and focuses on cleaning eye membrane with high tech equipments and professionals. Like this comment sections says, after the operation is done and one & half hour later I started to feel some pain for 2 days(they give pain relief medicines ofc whenever I start to feel it) as well staying away from light and stay on minimum light possible or in dark room. I was much better at 3rd day, also remember to wear sunglasses to be safe from lights.
Now two weeks later I still haven't noticed significant change in my both eyes for long distances, only slightly in close distances. It take month to two months from what I heard

PRK is the best choice!!!!
I agree. With PRK, there's about a week of bad pain post-surgery while the skin regrows over your eye, and the recovery time until you get your final best vision is a lot longer than with lasik. However it avoids the deep cuts into the cornea that you get with lasik, and creating a flap (which never heals, and could potentially detach years later). I had my PRK done 20 years ago.

I was at the doctor today and I can only get the PRK because my cornea layer is to thin. I am glad to hear positive feedback and the doctor told me its going to hurt. but if I can see better after that it will be worth it. I have a high prescription i cannot see a thing without my contacts of glasses. I am afraid for the pain but in the end i know it will be worth it.

Those LASIK centers will always try to sell everyone on LASIK because the fast recovery time benefits their business' ratings, but there's a reason people who participate in the military and combat sports are told to do PRK. It's safer (no flap) and has been around long enough to gauge long term issues.

Today, she still suffers from blurred vision and has seen several specialists, but the prognoses is still uncertain. To this day, she still has vision issues and can't see as clearly as she was 'promised.' She recently crashed her car into the side of the garage when pulling in. It's that bad.

Hello Ivan, I am 33 and doctor said "you are a little late for the laser operation. You will wear reading glasses after 40". So do you think it is not problem at all?

@@mehmetyok8434 in my opinion it's better to only wear glasses when reading than needing to wear glases all the time except when reading, but i've not done any sight correction surgery

I just had it done and everything went well. It's kind of sketchy at first not gonna lie. When they set you up they numb your eyes with drops, and you have an option of having an Adavan to help you relax. I took it myself just to help with it all.
So, they get you set up, and I think the most nerve-racking part of it all is when they do the whole cut the flap thing you lose your vision temporarily, to me this was the worst part/thought of it all. I have kids, so in my mind was never being able to see them again and all your other normal every day things. So that sketched me tf out. However, this is normal but everyone handles it differently. They give you stress balls to hold onto, I don't think mine turned back into a ball afterwards lol. Personally myself I'm someone who can overthink and that can lead to anxiety and I can stress myself out from it. However, I'll repeat it again, this part is NORMAL.
So they tape one eye shut with medical tape then the other the tape open then insert the clamp thing to keep your eye open. They get you to stare at there little green dot then they will go about putting the device over your eye thats super weird. Its like an eye vacuum, this is tje part that makes you temporaily lose your vision and as they go along they are constantly lubricating your eyes for obvious reasons, and as you vision blacks out, then goes into multiple shades of gray, then pitch black you see these random dots of color, then more liquid hits your eyes and then all of a sudden you can see normal light temporarily, then continues on they move you to the laser. Which is going to now correct your vision. All of a sudden you just hear a bunch of zapping noises and the very noticeable smell of dead bugs, if anyone here has killed some bugs, flies, or mosquitoes with an electric bug zapper. Well that is the smell lol. Then after the laser is done they move you back to the other spot and reverse everything they just did. Then the other eye and repeat. Tbh it's about 5-8 minutes an eye and then once finished on both they take the tape off your eyes and you can open your eyes.
Well if anyone here has ever opened your eyes underwater it's like that. They'll bring you aside and use that light thing and their magnifying glass to smoothen out the flap and your on your way.
The first bit of it was just weird, I didn't live close so stayed at a hotel. Honestly the best thing for me after that was the darkest room possible, everything was super bright and I already knew better than to even bother looking around or stressing my eyes out. They gave me 4 different types of drops.
1) a disinfectant drop (prevent infection)
2) an eye steroid drops (speed the healing/function)
3) systane hydrate drops (eye lubricant)
4) *if needed* eye numbing drops.
They were quite detailed about what you needed when and how many/often included on a piece of paper with the chart.
So after about 3-4 hours post surgery I noticed a mirror in the hotel room which would be parallel with the bathroom. And I swear after every hour that I had to wake up/get up to put these drops in that counter sink in the mirror got CLEARER and CLEARER every single time I put drops in. Roughly 4-8 hours your eyes tend to hurt/burn a bit so I used the numbing drops once then. Never had to again.
So the following day I had a check up before I was allowed to go home, and they would test my eyes. They weren't 100% right away which was normal. They noticed my left eye was a little inflamed and just readjusted my drop chart to follow for the next few days. And I was on my way home.
So we're a little over 2 weeks since having the lasik done. I've seen my personal eye Dr down home for me twice, 1 was for the check up sooner because it would have originally been 2 weeks after surgery and I wanted a check up 1 week directly after surgery. Patience is a virtue, I'm impatient at times and I found I would stress my eyes out by trying to compare eye to eye or how good they were before to now etc. Honestly guys, relax, take your time, rest your eyes for a solid 5-7 days. Keep up with your drops, and again be patient. I found polarized sunglasses were my favorite with going outside when it's bright and sunny. For the first 5 days I basically did bare minimum, threw on some podcasts and chucked the headphones in and threw a shirt over my head and eyes with my sunglasses on, had the A/C and just listened to those to pass time. It was probably the best thing I could've ever done for my eyes. Just made them feel good, again a darker room is best, avoid bright lights and reflections.
I had 1 scary moment, and this actually happened exactly 2 weeks after my surgery and luckily I had an eye appt that day. I went about 11-12 days/nights with wearing sunglasses on in bed and sleeping on my back. I prefer sleeping on my side personally and hate sleeping on my back but I tried my best for as long as I could. So yeah, I slept on my side and normally wake up throughout the night with dry eyes anyway so I'd throw some drops in my eyes throughout the night and go back asleep. Well some nights are better and worse than others and sometimes my eyes feel like raisins. Anyway, I woke up the morning of day 14, 2 weeks after surgery. And I couldn't see clear out of my right eye. Freaked my tf out. I thought the worse, I slept on my right side, and eyes were dry as could be. I thought I moved the flap on my eye and screwed up my vision cause my right eye was better than my left. It was like I didn't have my glasses, didn't have my contacts in, and woke up without having lasik done. Well my heart sank. Come to find out it was due to having an extremely dry eye. Had nothing to do with the flap, yet needing an extra bit of drops throughout the day and this systane moisturizing gel at night before bed and in the morning to help fix it. So still continuing with that today and onward for the next little bit but my vision came back later that same day I saw the Dr. Once again, stressed myself out over it lol.
So quick summary of it all, bright lights streak, which is normal for the first 2-3 months, my right eye is 20/20 and left is like a 20/50 or something atm. My eyes are still healing so I have to keep that in mind. And to the people who are going to do this in the future, DO NOT mess around with the chart. That will 100% be your vision afterwards so DO NOT push that aside, PERFECT your vision and TELL THEM. This is YOUR vision so get that chart and crispy clean and sharp as you can. Ask for a break if you need to for a moment for your eyes. Get them to turn on/off the lights if you need to focus better on that chart. Be 100% with them and yourself. And btw it's about 3-4hrs when you get in the clinic. They go over a bunch of eye tests, measurements, and scans. So be prepared, 100% worth it guys, my eyes are dry but it will clear up. Waking up in the middle of the night is a true blessing, and in the morning is still super weird and an extremely nice perk to life I didn't know existed until this. At night I still feel like I have to take contacts out cause it's weird after 17 years of contacts lol. I needed to make a 2nd appointment because apparently I wore contacts too long and needed 14 days with glasses which put my surgery a month in total behind. So if you have glasses give them a solid 2-3 weeks before your proclaimed surgery date and DO NOT wear your contacts during that time. And 1 last and final thing, even tho I was stressing tf out during the whole surgery thing, if I do need a enhancement done to my left in the future to make it perfect I am 100% doing it, and it should be included for you guys as it is for me so it would be free.
I had an amazing clinic and I would 100% recommend, they will take care of you and you are in good hands! You will not go blind as there are many many variables to becoming blind than what they are doing. You guys will be fine!

For anyone who has had glasses their entire life this would be so much more beneficial. I'm used to contacts so I've always had my fully peripheral vision. This would be so beyond life changing for someone who is used to only the peripheral vision of what glasses offers. With my short time with glasses, I don't know how you guys do it. But lasik is great! :)

PRK experience (18 y/o):
4.8.2023: Had PRK yesterday (aug 3 2023), procedure was painless for the most part, first few hours went really nice, barely any pain. After a while my eyes started to water a lot and the pain was really intense. But, as long as you take the eye drops, pain killers and all the medication needed it’s progressively getting better. Managed to sleep for a few hours, woke up with pain and took the medication. Went to a quick check up today and everything was fine. Currently my eyes are still puffy and watery but that’s a part of the healing process.

It'll get better just remember to be patient, the first few nights were definitely a Rollercoaster for me.
As the months go by your vision will get better and better until it stabilize. Speaking from experience.

@@sarahyy.yy_3 my vision is good, its not 20/20 because i had really bad vision with eye problems. But I had a dramatic vision improvement after my eyes stabilized. I was not able to see the whites in my eyes before the surgery while brushing my teeth in front of the mirror to give you an example
I get glares at night with lights, it's like strings of light not to dramatic that will impact how you see at night while driving but I believe that's with all laser surgery. The halo I think it was when I first got it but I don't see those now. I drive at night no problem but like said people I spoke to notice a difference between day time driving and night time driving. In all one of the best decision I made in my life. I personally had to do PRK because of complications I have with my eyes. But no regrets I love it

Eye surgeons will not do LASIK on people with corneas that are too thin. I know. I had PRK done back in 2012 instead of LASIK. They told me up front about the pain from PRK after surgery. I followed all post operative instructions and had no issues. You still do need reading glasses after surgery. But my far away vision is still 20/20.

I had lasik done 3 years ago. I did not feel any pain even after the anesthetic drop wore off. I felt pain only when applying one of the eye drops (I think the antibiotic one). Other than that, I did not feel any discomfort. Also, my vision became clear right after the procedure.
I just graduated and have to join a company as a software developer on july 2nd week.

@@saitej4750 I dont know about this. For me it costed 60k for -3 power and 180 cylinder in both eyes. You have to get a checkup first then doctor will check and sugest you which type of surgery is better. for me doctor sugested PRK. You can get it more explained from doctor like what are dif types and what is the procedure they do, what will they do to your eyes etc. Ask all your questions in the checkup and then only go for surgery.
i would only advice people with high prescription glasses to go for lasik or prk. if you have low levels of Myopia or Astigmatism in my opinion its not worth it.

Things get blurry at arm's length or further. I can hardly read anything at ARM'S LENGTH. My eyesight started depleting in 2012. I was hoping to have 20/20 vision by the year 2020, for obvious reasons. I've tried eye exercises for about two years, now. I don't see much improvement. This seems to be the only way to return to normal and live my life without needing a crutch to see normally. I would choose PRK surgery because the flap can create issues such as distortion of vision and discomfort. With tissue removed from beneath the flap, the flap is then too loose for the smaller space. Think of it this way: You originally owned a queen size mattress. The bedsheet fit it perfectly. You then decided to purchase a smaller sized mattress. You try putting on the queen size bedsheet, but now it wrinkles and moves. That is what you put your eye through when you choose LASIK. I would say PRK is the best bet. The outermost layer can regenerate. The part that cannot regenerate is partially removed in both procedures, but with LASIK, more of that permanent tissue is removed. Therefore, it is far more difficult to correct any mistakes after the first procedure. PRK may take longer to heal, and it may have more discomfort, but in the long run, it seems to be worth it.
flap is then too loose for the smaller space.... this is not true. Flap will have perfect space to fit. PRK epithelium healing is a complex process and so more danger is there.
Absolutely weirdest feeling ever. No pain. Totally worth it!
If people knew well about the risks of having a flap (which never completely heals), no one would ever choose Lasik over PRK. Yes, Lasik gives you a fast recovery and almost immediate vision correction, while PRK will give you a recovery of 30 to 60 days in which your vision will be blurry/dirty. But PRK heals completely and absolutely free of the horrible risks of having a permanent flap after Lasik. Just look for videos on damaged flaps and you'll see what I mean. Go PRK, always.

You just need to really take care of your eyes during the next 2 months after the surgery (no smoking, no exposure to wind/dust, not touching/sobbing/scratching your eyes, apply all the medication that your doctor prescribes and avoid using anesthetic drops, as those can interfere with how cleanly it heals).
I did Lasik. I can't see the "unhealed" flaps though. 🤔 Nor do I have any discomfort because of the flap? I just have eye dryness issue which the doctors duly informed me of before the procedure. I just went ahead with LASIK because I was too scared to have PRK.

I had PRK yesterday. Guys, the procedure was ABSOLUTELY painless. The only discomfort I felt was about two hours after the surgery when the numbing drops wore off. It was a uncomfortable feeling similar to having something in your eye. I went to bed last night and when I woke up this morning I felt absolutely no pain or discomfort at all. My vision has gone from a -5.5 to seeing almost perfectly overnight. There is a slight blur effect, but that is temporary and will clear up once my eyes finish healing. All in all, I’m so thankful I did this.

I just finished checking up on my eyes .. they are totally fine.. I just have to keep moisturizing them with the eye drops the doctor gave me .. I have totally no pain in my eyes but I am not viewing things very clearly to drive however it's clear enough to carry on anything else.. gradually I'll have a sight 6/6 after 3~4 weeks from today!
Lasik "complications" such as over or undercorrection, which can be adjusted again... or extended dry eyes which typically go away... is about 0.3% of Lasik. You have to get tested for it to see if your a candidate... but the risks of minor comps are very low. Their have been people die on an operating tables for very basic surgeries.
Make sure you properly research side effects first. I had Lasik 13 years ago with Optimax in Bristol and I have dry eyes requiring drops several times a day and this didn't start for several years after lasik. This means that I cannot wear contacts at all as my eyes have deteriorated (back to -1.5 myopia so need specs to drive etc) some days I need to get drops in my eyes before I can fully open them in the morning. Your eyes are healthy right now but they may not be after these guys have cut your corneas and zapped them. The nerves get damaged reducing your ability to make lubrication and you can be left in long term pain.
That was technology from 13 years ago. Lasers are much more advanced now.
Thousands of people are still having their eyes and lives ruined each year by laser eye surgery. It doesn't matter how supposedly advanced the lasers are, these ops are extremely invasive to delicate biological tissue. If it goes wrong, there is NO CURE !

Just got my FEMTO LASIK done last week in Pakistan in under USD400. My vision is 6x6, and I never felt this much better without glasses. Now, planespotting and stargazing are my hobbies again.
Oh, and my procedure was completely painless. It's not a single pain. The first 3 hours post-op were hell. But after the initial 24 hrs, I am a new angel with cool vision. Got my 2nd postoperative eye checkup done yesterday, doctor was very happy with the healing. I don't wear any sunglasses and work almost 10 hours infront of the screen. I can compare these 2 methods since I had it done few days ago in one go. Right eye is lasik and the left one is prk.
I would definitelly recommend lasik since the healing is very fast, almost doesnt hurt and you can see improvement the next day.
I had prk because of eye injury and this method definitelly hurts a lot more during the next few days of healing. Like you have a piece of glass stuck in your eye all the time. You are given some pain meds, but you can still feel plenty.
In the end the doctor should recommend proper method for you, but given the option...go for lasik.
But what about long term vision results and side effects?
Scarlett H PRK is actually recommended more due to its longevity. I was told that I probably won’t have to do a retouch after 20 years. With LASIK people will definitely need to retouch.

I’m glad I did Epi-Lasik before I knew all that in detail. It’s been a month since I did it, my doctor said that I had a thin cornea so I needed vitamins to be inserted within (so I got the extra-epi lasik surgery). I recently got a follow up appointment and apparently it’s going fine. My vision is 6/6 but sometimes it isn’t that clear, apparently I need another month for complete recovery and clarity.
Right, SIDE EFFECTS: pain in the first two days (not during the surgery but afterwards). Excessive care in the first week (must lubricate it every single hour/avoid sunlight/ phone-tv-laptop or any screen usage/stay away from dusty environments/ avoid working out or performing what adds pressure/make sure the shampoo doesnt get into your eyes/ take a week off work and just stay home and aid it full time). Blurriness in the first two weeks. And dry eyes but this reduces over time.
As for now, I’m comfortable and glad that I did it, I lubricate my eyes every few hours but I’m back to my normal life. It is not as scary as I used to think, I was terrified yet I made a brave choice. One of the BEST DECISIONS I MADE IN MY LIFE no joke.

kel chenc it’s been 3+ months and all is great! I see clearly, and all is painless of course. Except for a continuous condition of dryness. I don’t lubricate it as much as I used to, but I still do so several times a day, especially after I wake up in the morning. Dryness is a natural side effect of the surgery, but it’s truthful to mention that I had slight dry eyes before the surgery.
In my last follow up appointment my doctor said my cornea has regained its strength thanks to the vitamins added during the procedure, I paid an extra pretty penny for such results.

kel chenc it’s better than the first month of course (I used to lubricate my eyes every single hour!) but now I do when I need to. Ever since I started turning the AC nowadays cause it’s summer, and they got drier. Somehow the AC dries the air too. So I’d say I lubricate them 6-10 times a day. It seems much but I’ve grown accustomed to do it that it just happens automatically.

I've read enough, this technology is at best in its infancy and the methods to correct mistakes or issues that develop over years are to limited for my tastes. I will simply not do it.

I did prk, pain after 2 days but after that no pain, and vision is progressively clearer day after day. The end result is so much better than eye glasses. It is 100% safe, especially prk much safer than LASIK.
My advice, go for prk, pain after 2 days and needs weeks-months for full vision but you will win your entire life

Laser doesn't "correct" anything, it destroys tissue. Eyeglasses correct your vision through refraction. Lasik burns away pieces of your eyeball to create refraction within your body flesh, so it can leave you with corneal neuralgia due to burning away your nerves. That doesn't sound like "correction" to me, it sounds like plastic surgery. Get a nose job and boob implants while you're at it!

The risk of lasik is not worth it to me. It's risky enough to work on your only set of eyes and when I did it I did PRK because I'd get over the initial inconvenience pretty quick.
At the place i did, prk was more expensive than lasik.
Why anyone would get Lasik over Lasek or PRK is beyond me. It is far superior and has less potential long term side effects. No flap that never heals, and way less trauma to the eye. Had PRK and it was painless just took a couple days to see normal. A couple days of bad sight for less side effects and a uncut cornea, I will take that any day.
I'm looking into both and prk definitely sounds like the better deal. Temporary pain for guaranteed results.

Not true. PRK patients are at a higher risk of developing postoperative corneal haze due to the removal and healing process of the epithelium. (The Bowman's layer of the eye is permanently destroyed in PRK.) The procedure has many advantages over LASIK but there is no one "clearly better" procedure for every patient.

Just did my prk 3 days ago, procedure took around 10-15mins and i could immediately see the change in my vision quality after the surgery. Eyes aren't paining at all but sometimes they are watery and itchy but thats bcoz of the healing process. I had myopia of -7.5 on both eyes.

I just had lasik. Slept it off the first day. You feel nothing during the procedure. Its almost like being in a vr simulator where they just tell you to look at the dot and things get to work. Weird but neat.
Now I dont need to have my glasses on to drive, watch tv, lay in bed.. etc. Its great.

I've had prk and indeed the recovery period is long but it is flaps free, probably safer because it is done to the outer layers of the cornea... the first night i could not sleep from pain

If you are going to do refractive surgery, do PRK and do one eye at a time. Possible complications of LASIK are much higher and more severe than PRK. LASIK problems can occur years later, very unlikely with PRK. The rare PRK patients who developed corneal ectasia and corneal neuralgia had abnormal topography and or thin corneas and should never have had PRK in the first place. You must be thoroughly screened before under going refractive surgery. The limits for rejection need to be re-evaluated to lessen the severe problems that are occurring.
My doctor recommended and so we chose PRK because I had thin corneas. Lasik is absolutely not recommended for thin corneas.

I had PRK 2018. It was hell on wheels for the first 2-5 day- after that it gets better and it’s the best thing I ever did for my astigmatism!! It was so worth it!

@@anmol6956 that’s normal blurry vision for the first 3-6 months, because your eye sight is trying to focus and balance. Give it 6 months after that you’ll see improvement a lot better. You will have a lot of dry eyes so you’ll need gel tears to keep them moist. Also sensitivity to the sun is normal, will go away.

I got PRK done 6 days ago. So far so good. I didn't have terrible vision (about -2,75) but I don't tolerate contacts. I wanted to be able to jog, swim, dance without being half blind. The surgery was on a Friday at noon and I was functional by Monday (I've been working from home though). The PRK contacts are getting removed tomorrow and I can't wait, however, I do tolerate them well (they have a high oxygen transmissibility).

my dad did prk and he was around 83 and he only wore dark glasses for a few days and made me feel like an old man. He drove without glasses and I did, his health plan covered it that's why he did it.he never had any problems I know a couple of family members that did prk and no problems but one person I know that did LASIK has issues years later, I don't think its a good idea to cut any part of your eye. The laser should do the job right.

I had a bad flap on one eye and then months later PRK on the other. This video is accurate for what I when thru. If I could do it again, I would use PRK. They can’t do PRK on both eyes however on the same day because of the healing time. You would be functionally blind for a while if they did both at once.

Quick notes eyes are still 20/15 on both, I see better at night, no issue with close up vision, cost me 4,800 because I went to a specialist. Been 3 years so yeah. Highly recommend it. I'll try to answer anyone else questions. I also have a video I might most of the surgery. It was does mostly by automation.

Looking forward to getting either one of these 2 laser eye surgeries when I reach 18 yrs old. I've been wearing glasses for my myopia since I was like 7 or 8. They said it could be because of my genes. Im 14 now and my nearsightedness is -14 D on my left eye and -14.25 D on my right eye. Both eyes have -2 D of astigmatism.
During my annual eye exam last year (2021), it was -14 on the left eye and -13.75 on the right. Im so relieved that 2 weeks ago, I had another annual eye exam and the doctors said that my right eye only increased by -0.5 and that my left eye's prescription didnt change.
They said I had to be 18 years old snd have stable prescription before undergoing lasik or something like that. I hope my eye grade doesnt fluctuate or increase in the next 3 years so I can finally get them fixed!🙏

Prk is better and safer option than Lasik.
All these videos "forget" to mention that Lasik or PRK, it doesn't matter - you are still getting presbyopia if you live long enough so your eyesight will always worsen because that's just life. Don't be naive and think just because you get this surgery (and if goes off without a single hitch and you aren't one of the unlucky people who get complications) that your eyesight will remain nice and sharp forever.
That is, of course, true, but consider this:
If your eyes are corrected and later in life you get presbyopia, you just need reading glasses. 5 bucks or something, and you're done.
But if you don't, and have a fairly 'complicated' prescription, like me, -4.75 / 3.25 cyl, you'd need *expensive* varifocals, that you'd also need to get used to. The cost of laser surgery basically nullifies itself with 1 or 2 pairs of varifocals.
I had Lasik corrective eye 👁️ surgery done in the year 2014, which was the best decision I made. I had to wear plastic google glasses for a few days and it felt like I had sand in my eyes. However, I could see a lot clearer within the first day of the procedure.

Why u don't choose prk?
Been in contacts for 30+ yrs for near-sightedness (20/400 vision, wore -4.5 rx). I never wore them all that responsibly and have had several corneal ulcers through the years, so I finally decided to get lasik. Unfortunately, because of the corneal scarring from the ulcers I have to have prk rather than the traditional lasik.
Because of my age (49), I'm starting to lose my close up vision. When I have my contacts in, I can't see good close up. If I don't have contacts in, my close up vision is amazing. My doc said that I will permanently lose the closeup vision that I have (without contacts in) when I get the prk procedure and I'll definitely need reader glasses... He said my close vision may even get worse than it is now.
But he said he can do multi-focal lasik adjustments on the eyes so that one eye can see better close up and one eye sees better far away. Has anyone else had multi-focal prk done? Is prk painful enough that you need oral painkillers? Like on a post-op pain scale of 1 - 10, how bad would you rate the first few days? I feel like my eyes can tolerate a lot since they've been out through a lot of abuse over the last 30 years of corneal ulcers, bacterial infections, corneal abrasions, etc. Dry eyes is just a normal thing for me. But, hearing that I'll have to lay in bed for first 3 - 4 days with my eyes closed the entire time, then dealing with weeks or months of light sensitivity, months of dry eyes... That has me questioning this whole thing.
I appreciate all the patient experiences and opinions I've read on here. It's helping me make a more informed decision!

If you have a big trouble seeing and you are young this comment for you. I used to think Vilma from scooby was a joke when she couldn't find her glass when it fell right by her. By the age of 25 i was just like that. I literally had to put my face as close as i can to see the white in my eyes in the bathroom mirror. It made me real depressed cause i had thick glasses after they were thinned contacts that were thick as heck and i still had trouble seeing especially at night. I asked my eye doctor about getting lasik and his colleague who was there that day who specialized in lasik reviewed my chart and said to be honest you would still need to wear glasses it would not be a big improvement and seeing you got a lot going on i wouldn't recommend it and both of them really sat and rereviewed my charts. Mind you i been seeing him because of complications since 9th grade.
I feel into deeper depression because im 25 and my eye sight is comparable to a 90 year old. My quality of life was horrible and the second the sun goes down driving becomes dangerous for me. So i did my own research and found out about PRK. Literally the first doctor office i found, looked over everything did their test and they too said lasik would not be a good for me because of what i got going on with my eyes but the doctor did say PRK would benefit me the best....to sum it up BEST FUCKING CHOICE I MADE. the healing process is no joke though. I didn't take the corticosteroid pain reliever because it would slow down the healing process but i had others they gave me. I was out for 2 weeks. It took a few months for my vision to really adjust but it was like the first time seeing in my life...even grass looked different.

If you have healthy eyes , Lasik.
If you have things going on, don't risk damaging your eyes and do PRK. Pains a bitch, longer healing time but less things going on to get your vision correct as the video showed and yes DRY EYES is factor but im 30 now and i don't get dry eyes as much as i used too plus i use blink geltears they are great.
I did PRK 2 years ago, the best choice I've made, it doesn't hurt at all and the healing doesn't hurt at all. Everything jus felt normal and my vision got better and can see clearly than with my glasses.

As for mom she did the normal Lasik but at a good hospital but her eyes still fell dry from time to time not alot and the healing is more longer
But as for me I did the PRK and compared to my parents I didn't feel pain at all. I did it at Bangkok Hospital so it's Abit expensive but not that much better safe than sorry plus that time it was kinda new so few hospitals had it. And I like the option where I can do a second time if it still feels blurry but everything till now still I can see clear but I do play games on screen alot so if my eyes go bad again I can still do PRK but if Lasik or knife u can't do it again only once. So I recommend PRK since it will heal faster less risk and it's the newest technology for eyes but of course any surgery that has to do with eyes or anything important u have to make sure ur doctor is good like a reputable hospital should show a folder/portfolio of before after review and pictures of the patients who did PRK bc my hospital did that.
But it's ur choice but as for me I recommend the PRK.

@@kelchenc8199 they just laser and then make a 3mm or 5mm incision can't rmb and then suck out the stuff that need to be sucked out after laser then done, no opening flaps so its an easy and fast healing process and ops.

My experience with PRK was that it was an awful result to start with, but the vision gradually kept improving for more than a year after the operation. That was 20 years ago. The vision (especially in dim light) isn't as good as I used to get with contacts, but it's still better than 20/20 and good enough for driving and doing all my normal activities. My main issue is that, since reaching my 50s, I find myself having to use reading glasses to read fine print. In my case I didn't have much choice about having the surgery, because after more than 10 years of using contacts, I developed a severe intolerance to them. It was either eye surgery or go back to wearing glasses.
I believe that almost everyone who's 50y.o and higher gonna experience the need to wear glasses. That's the human body.

This is absolutely normal, PRK takes time to see 100% however within a few days you can see well enough to go out (its blurry like having -1 or -0.5 degrees which goes to zero in 3-4 weeks). The reason is that with PRK the cornea is totally zapped and is gradually rebuilt again by your organism while with Lasik its opened and glued together. The advantage of PRK is that the cornea which is rebuilt from scratch is more solid so if you get a hit in your eye you don't have the risk of falling off like with lasik

I'm on my day 5 of prk, now i can driver without problem, i never had any light sensation, i had a big double vision on day 2, it was gone on day 3.
On day 2-3 i had a pain that i never experienced in my life, i mean i couldn't even sleep i only slept 2 hours first day and 3 hours second day the pain was unsupportable for me. From day 1 at night to day 4 at night i couldn't even open my eyes, did you see when someone cut onion next to you and your eyes starts to close automatically? i was like that for 4 days i couldn't even open them for 4 seconds, anyway now i feel great :)

I got PRK and sure it hurt like hell on my way home when the medicine wore off but i was playing xbox the first day just to pass the time lol I didnt get to drive for 4 days but I had no choice but to start driving because of work. You will see hazy like ceram wrap on your eyes. Well worth it tho. I can go swiming without glasses and I dont have to worry about contacts and I can wear sunglasses now.

I had PRK . Now Six months and twenty days have passed, and I still suffer from symptoms. The dry eye has subsided, but when riding a bicycle it returns especially at night you wake up with a red eyes feel sand on them and sometimes Needles, and sometimes it comes back, but it lessened from the beginning. Also, the dry eye affected my eyelid and made it look frightening and protruding... I am sensitive to light, especially sunlight I also suffer from glare and tiredness in the eyes, especially when looking a lot to a distance .. I feel that my eyes are heavy and I want to rest, a very disturbing feeling .. My vision has become very good and I do not use glasses today, but these symptoms made me regret having the operation and sometimes I feel that it will stay with me forever This is what affects my psyche, and I say why I did not know why I did it .. I wear sunglasses outside .. I advise everyone if the glasses do not really bother you, then keep them. I do not think that you waste 6 months of your life suffering in order to fix something and then suffer all that time😢 and i am not ok yet . I went to eye doctor he said my cornia are perfect and the test after surgery was very good he said but this symptoms going to make me loose my mind very annoying .

Another problem is feeling lost in the afternoon, sunset, or sunrise outside, especially without sunglasses. You feel psychologically stressed, that you are in a strange place, and that you are distracted. This is a very strange and annoying feeling. My friend also suffers from the same feeling. We hope that these symptoms will go away, otherwise this will be the worst decision we have made in our lives if they continue. As for my lower eyelid, which made me lose my mind at one point and made me suspect that I was suffering from bulging or that one eye was more prominent than the other. I had thyroid tests and an MRI, but all were good. I think the dry eye was affecting the lower eyelid and making it look down. Now I don't know, stop looking at it and think it's a little improvement. Now my friend also felt that one of his eyes was more prominent than the other. It is confusing and makes you doubt whether there is a problem with my eyes or whether it has always been like this, something annoying. Also, using artificial tears for a period of time causes irritation and itching of the eyelid over time

Lasik is not painful at all. Could see clearly the same night. Never felt any pain. not during the procedure nor after.

Im getting lasik in my right eye only so i can have good enough vision for the military. If i end up with dry eye down the road its something i'm willing to accept to follow my dreams

Had lasik probably over 10 years ago. While it has corrected my myopia, it has made my eyes extremely dry and night vision sucks balls. Haziness, stars and glaring at night. Because i'm in front of the computer a lot my eyesight has over time become bad again... albeit not as bad as initially, but still bad.
Then a few years early was struck by a ball, dislocated the retina and needed and operation once again.. this time they put a stupid silicone band around my entire eye, which makes it myopic because of the squeeze. I ask an eye doctor if they could remove it, and they said they can't... like wtf my retina has healed right?
Research suggests that you could correct myopia naturally by doing eye exercises, sunlight and looking into the distance as often as you can.
If you can somehow fit this into your schedule then this is better than this natural method is better than surgery in the long run.

I did Lasik. I was scared like you. Ever since I saw the Final Destination movie scene, the sheer idea of getting the treatment haunted me for a long time. Finally, 2 years ago, I got the blade-less Lasik surgery - since it's "blade-less", I was brave enough to undergo the surgery. During the operation, the doctor and nurses could feel that I was super terrified lol. My mouth dried and the heart was beating so fast as they clipped my eyes wide open, and brought down the laser machine an inch away from my face. But trust me, I didn't feel a thing! I could see my eyes' epithelial layer is now cut by the laser light and being opened by the doctors. I could see the laser light being aimed on my cut-open eyes. I still remember the moment the laser light finished doing the surgery! My eyes were no longer blurry! That happiness overwhelmed the fear lol. The surgery was pretty quick too, just took around 10-ish minutes for both of the eyes. The only downside I can say is eye dryness and slightly blurred vision for 12 months. Not everyone will have this issue. PRK is the best method if you have dry eye issue. But the surgery uses blade instead of laser cut. My brother did it as the shape of his cornea was not suitable for Lasik. He said he didn't feel any pain during the blade cut. But it took him a month to fully recover. I could see his eyes were reddish for the whole month. I recovered over-night as I got Lasik but the dryness and blurred vision was present for the whole freaking year (again this is only for those who have pre-existing eye dryness issue).

@@violet7963 Haha don't worry, your doctor will use a tool to retract your eyelid which will prevent your eyes from closing accidentally. You can't even blink. In order to prevent your eyes from drying out (since it's kept open), they'd keep pouring a tear-like solution via a tube which will be very soothing. If you opt for laser cut, you will only see a red laser light doing its thing in the surgery lol. No pain at all. And, all this happens in 5-10 minutes for each eye! Just do research and find the best doctor in your area who has done several LASIK surgeries before. You will be good!
I did PRK week ago and its really uncomfortable 💔 just after 6 days im starting to feel good and the pain is manageable . I can’t look at the lights for too long and the sun is to painful for my eyes . Plus ! After 5 days the doctor took my contact lens out in the morning and i went home to sleep , after 2 hours of nap I woke up to the most pain i ever felt !! I went to the emergency in the same clinic and they told me that I scratched my cornea and the doctor put contact lens in my right eye and told me to wait 2-3 days 💔 i’m starting to regret this surgery

I had -11 in both eyes. After manual surgery, (not laser) I see really perfectly. I see short distance perfectly without additional correction, and perfect vision for street distances. I was terrified too, it the outcome could not be better. It is perfect.

I tell you something. When you decide to have an eye surgery don't look up on RUclips videos. You will definitely cancel it. I did the PRK 7 years ago. Btw your doctor will decide what surgery is best for you after your pre exams. Seriously you feel nothing. I hope some of you should reconsider on doing the surgery. It will change your life. First time I drove after my fully recovery I literally realize that I have 3 mirrors in my car and I can use them without turning my head left, right, up. Much safer than with glasses or contacts.

What do ppl suggest for me? I did a lot of research. I'm just worried something might go wrong. Can vision get worse or develop another problem? I have always had 20/20 vision until I was like 18/19 my right eye was like 20/40. And when i turned 20 i started getting discomfort in my right eye. I thought at 1st its because i looked at the eclipse w no special glasses and in my junior year i studied w the lights off cuz my roommate turned the lights off at 10pm to be on her phone (she was mean 🙊). Anyways so i think that caused eyestrain and it might have increased my degree a little bit because pain started my junior year. And for the past 2 years it has been consistent. I have myopia from my grandma. So my left eye is perfect and my right eye is -1.5. I had glasses made with my left eye just clear glass but i can't wear them because I cant see thru them properly. It looks like 3D glasses to me when I look thru them. So i just wear contacts. But i can only wear the daily contacts cuz the monthly 1s were too thick for my eye so they hurt and they didnt fit in my eye. But other then dealing w the pain of having contacts especially when studying/traveling, i also have pain in my eye when i look w my pereferal vision. It feels like its been "dislocated" or whatever and I so i always have ro rub my eye to relieve some of the pain. I trully don't understand this problem. Like i can try and deal w the expenses of contacts and remembering to wear them.... But I dont understand why i have this pain. I really just miss having perfect vision. Im just not used to this and in general im sensitive to things like my teeth, skin, eyes.... So going thru this sucks but im dealing w the pain. But my question is with everything that I have mentioned, would having these surgeries fix this or is there an underlying problem? My cousin is also my age and developed the same thing around the same age as me (not earlier like my sisters) but she doesnt get any pain and she can see thru glasses just fine. But she only wears them when studying when her eyes get tired. Her doctor told her that she cant see 70/60% with her right eye but she forgot the degree of her glasses.

Your eye power is not that worst -1.5 is nothing compare to people having -6 or -8 or more .. the reason behind the pain and the sensitive eyes of you is something else u need to check up your eyes with doc ..

I know theres a reason behind the pain that hasnt anything to do with the eye power but I did go see a doctor and he did a check up and said nothing was wrong. But I dont really believe that cuz i have that pain only in the eye that I need a contact in, not the other 1.
