  • “I will not vote Conservative at the next election.”
Despite Anthony Horowitz’s son working in Downing Street, the author says he’s more inclined to “spoil” his ballot paper than vote Tory.

Interesting interview and agree we need to change our political system. Sadly, it grated to hear Anthony describe Sunak as a "decent man" when Sunak is anything but. Remember, it was Sunak, who, when Chancellor and advised schools needed urgent attention due to aerated concrete and requested an increase in budget to repair 400 schools a year, slashed the budget from 100 to 50, then spent hardly anything on schools. Remember too, he ignored the experts and lied about it when introducing eat out to help out. Sunak did nothing to stop the VIP Lane for PPE and has written off millions due to fraud. As for being PM, Sunak is totally inept. We desperately need a General Election.

His comments on the tone of political discourse seemed to forget that the Conservatives have been setting it for 14 years and have amplified the negativity by promoting some very troubling policies with divisive rhetoric. Many policies seemed to have been to the detriment of disadvantaged groups and any more generous policies have be watered down and often cancelled.

Gay marriage being a policy of the Torys , Oh contraire. They were forced kicking and screaming after the hugely discriminatory vile section 28. Largely due to most of Europe equalising the age of consent and member states implementing equality laws in their own countries. Sunak is weak, being led by the rabid faction of his party lurching further to the extreme right and the constant picking away at progress we have made of human rights. The damage unfortunately for a lot of people has already been done.

I agree. He lost my respect half way through when he skirted the question on his voting intentions. I feel he let himself down badly in blaming politicians generally for Britain’s woes, having just explained his opinion on Brexit, and saying he’s going to spoil his ballot paper. Abrogation of responsibility and a complete inability to hold his own tribe to account for its failings and gross mishandling of things.

Every change of PM, we are reminded people voted for the party, not the person. Here you are defending the person when in fact it’s the same party that has done so much damage and so little good for the country. Blame Covid, Ukraine etc but they have had over a decade and have spent their time squabbling, squandering and dividing. It will take Labour years to sort their mess out unfortunately.

Never heard of him. Do I care what he thinks about Brexit? No. We had a free and fair referendum and the leave side won, so we left; It's called "democracy" mate. Get over it.

We know, you keep telling us. The flip side is that people are allowed to talk about it if that is what they want to do. People are also allowed to change their minds. People voted for a Tory government less than five years ago. Millions of them have since changed their mind. It's called democracy, you get over it. BTW, I couldn't give two effs what you think.

@@gio-oz8gf "Millions of them have since changed their mind." - Really? When were these "millions" asked? A country can't just hop in and out of the EU as the mood takes it. Even if a majority of the UK public wanted to rejoin - on the new terms including accepting the Euro - the UK doesn't currently meet the Copenhagen Criteria for EU Accession, so it's out of the question.

@@dogglebird4430 A recent poll put Brexit popularity at 33%. It certainly won't be a vote winner at the next GE. Most people have just lost interest in Brexit. Probably because it has not delivered one worthwhile thing for the country. Though I'll take that back if the Tories get demolished on election night. They really are up a certain creek. And one of their own making.

I think Brexit has been a success. We were told by remainers that all the big companies & banks would leave Britain, 3 million unemployed, emergency budget after we left, 50 mile lorry queues at Dover, British planes would not be able to land in EU airports, medical & food shortages in Britain none of that happened. I wouldn't mind people still harping on about the EU but they got all the problems we got even worse in some EU countries. The EU got more illegal migrants than Britain, Germany been in recession, farmers protesting across the EU & many EU countries voting in anti EU MEPs.

There ARE queues at Dover. Or sorry, not quite Dover because they have actually been moved inland but they are still there and going to get worse. And food quality, choice and longevity have definitely declined. If you want a certain brand it’s no longer guaranteed. Before we used to go shopping, buy five or six dinners and not think about when we had them. Now there’s definitely shorter dates so we have to have them before they go out of date, not necessarily when we want them. Brexit has had ZERO benefits.

      Banking has left the UK!?
Huge lorry parks and long lines of lorries and cars......much smaller now because thousands don't even bother to move in and out of the UK.
Nearly everything this chap says is...........wrong!
How does that happen.......well the Nazis were very good at it just before WW2. Now Russia is at it and the UK press is at ot.
It's brainwashing the masses........happens all the time by the rich and powerful who own the media.
Believe your eyes not what you're told.
