I am definitely in the 1% that thinks your fabric scheme here was absolutely brilliant. I LOVE the orange stripes with the crazy fishy mermaid wonderland. It makes all my obnoxious adorable dress dreams come true.
It would basically be constructing 15 different collars or yokes - those are the frequently misplaced pieces! I usually use them as extra tissue for making alterations to patterns or repairing tears. It's too confusing for me to have extra pieces laying about.
Great outfit! I am in love with the tokyo milk fabrics. Here‘s an idea: How about making a surreal 18th century dress with your other tokyo milk fabric? I think a baroque dress with octopi on it would be so much fun.
The fabric choice was amazing! Also, does anyone else love the sound the scissors make when cutting the fabric and moving over the work surface, or am I just weird? lol
Is it weird that I love the sound when you’re cutting the fabric? Something about how the scissors sound is really satisfying to me lol The dress looks gorgeous on you and I love your fabric choice
Omg a romper adaptation would be so cute with lovely cuffs on the shorts and pockets as low as possible whilst still being flattering; maybe on the side of the leg.
My fabric piles are in tubs. Otherwise, they'll tumble over. 💕🤗 I made this sundress/jumper in the 1980s in navy blue with a plaid band. Totally messed up matching the plaid seams. (Best for church where you're less likely to throw your arms up.) Love your videos. Thank you.
I feel like I can justify infinite amounts of fabric if it is organized in bins and drawers...but when it starts spilling out onto the floor and into piles it becomes a problem.
The fact that you have the imagination and creative vision for pairing the fish fabric with the orange stripes and that it TOTALLY WORKED in the end result is very admirable to me. I would never have pictured those two together and yet they totally worked and you had that vision all along. The blue of those fish is really pretty and quite a unique shade. You made a really great dress. You are really building a marvellous mid century style wardrobe! xx
I just love this dress. If you didn't point out the "flaws" most of us wouldn't even notice them. Please, don't be so hard on yourself - you're a sewing rock-star! 😍⭐️
I would just stop and stare if I saw that dress on someone when I was say, running errands. Then I’d make a point of telling her that it was an amazing outfit! Wow. I loved it, utterly and completely. It’s just gorgeous.
I really enjoyed this video, I actually really liked the quiet during the sped-up portions, just listening to the scissors and machine... probably weird, but it was very peaceful and interesting to watch. The dress looks amazing too!
Angela i freakin love the patterns u selected... yes usually 90% of the time these 2 patterns/ colors would not fit together... but w/ that said they do complement each other well... I think it’s a great quirky combination... and ur wearing it so who cares what those 90% of people think... I love ur channel... and ur voice is so soothing... I Like to watch b4 I go to sleep... 💜🖤💜🍁
That fabric is GLORIOUS. Also, you can make regular buttons behave like shank buttons by sewing them on with a nail between them and the fabric to give space, and then removing the nail and winding the thread a few times around the thread between button and fabric for support.
Design is nailed. Textile knowledge is a work in progress beyond your years. The one suggestion stems from a very public lecture delivered by a professor teaching clothing construction to me as a college junior. Put thread shanks on your buttons. It will give the button a little height and keep it from pulling in the buttonhole. It is also the difference between homemade and custom. AND your work is definitely custom. Love your creativity. Nannette
this is so damn cute! I've been sewing my trans friend who just recently came out as a woman some new clothes and I'm getting so much inspiration from your videos. She loves vintage fashion. I'm by no means a pro at sewing so your tips have helped
I really appreciate the helpful tips that you give during your process. I never would have thought of your pinning trick in order to get a perfectly lined up print!
I’m glad you paired it with the striped blouse. The pockets looked out of place. I thought they were amazing and am glad you kept them. I was going to suggest the striped fabric as a piping on the straps to bring the pattern more into the design, but the blouse looks perfect with it. Please make something amazing with the octopus fabric. When I saw that I thought of a 50-ish romper for the beach. Please add a second wildcard fabric as well. I love this look so much.
So cute. Go for vibrant prints, especially when you are young! It's fun to wear and it's fun to see....especially when there's so much dark and monochromatic clothing out there. The eye craves colour!
I really enjoyed the fabric, and even more after you pointed out the mermaids. When you first tried it on after sewing, I thought it was too long, but then you mentioned how you needed to hem it, and the final length was perfect. It looked lovely over the striped shirt, but I would love to see you wearing it as a sundress, and maybe with a cute sweater or shrug as well.
I had the same thought. You could do 2 applications of the dark blue fish where they should be on the bust area to make it symmetrical. I love this dress. And I also feel inspired to move on with my project - a blouse sewn entirely by hand (as I don't have a sewing machine where I live now). Thank you for posting Angela :)
I absolutely adore the fabric combination, and I love how you fussy cut out the pieces! I've been sewing for almost 50 years, but you have taught me some really interesting ways to create! And like someone else said earlier, You be You! ❤❤❤
The octopus fabric reminds me of a sun suit my grandmother wore on her honeymoon cruise in the early 50s. It was an attached halter top/shorts outfit with a complimenting short swing coat/beach coverup with 3/4sleeves. The halter didn’t tie, it buttoned on on the left front of the bodice with a large statement button.
I have to say, I love your obnoxious fabric choices! They’re always beautiful and very interesting. I’m always interested in seeing what you’re up to and you never disappoint. 😊 That fabric is awesome and I love it with the orange! And thanks for the tips on matching prints, that’s something I need to work on. 💕💕
I embrace the obnoxious choice aesthetically. I believe strongly in the Diana Vreeland school of thought about taste & style. Always great to blow a big breath of cleansing, crazy, bracing fresh air into one’s style. And with your artistic eye it’s a success! Just brilliant.
Maybe I'm used to just having progress updates through videos, but something about the style and editing in this was really entertaining and enjoyable. I will watch hours of your videos but this one I was watching intently and entertained by the whole time. Also this dress is making me less resistant to pattern mixing because WOW
I had no idea that there is a Tokyo Milk fabric. I am familiar with their fragrances and body care and loved their packaging. So glad they have extended it to fabric! Love your fabric choice!
I like the sound of the scissors when you speed up video. And at first I did not like your choice of fabric combination but when done it looks really nice with the shirt that matches pockets. I like it!
I would love to see you style this dress with a 60s or 70s twist it gave me soooo much inspiration and seeing you in looks like that for you would be a fun journey
I love watching you throw together a dress. It's so fun to listen to what your saying but I have no idea what it means. Lol I know biased tape and a few others. I'd love be for you to make something again that you designed. Those are so special
Just started watching, and clicked "pause" to say right away that I DO love the combination of fabrics. I have no idea what your dress will look like at the end of this video but I already know I will love the pockets enormously :D Now, ready to click "play" again ;)
I really enjoyed the extra tidbits and tips throughout this video! I always enjoy watching your content, but this time I feel like I also learned more about garment construction, which is awesome. And I want that dress, it's just the cutest.
I would truly like to see a dress from the octopus fabric, think it would be fantastic. I have quite a few 40's 50's, 60's patterns, may I send them to you? (free)
Just came across your videos. Lots of good info on sewing vintage patterns. I am self taught so I take any hints and tips I can find...lol! Love your fabric choices...this is where I always have problems...picking out the correct fabrics. Thank you for sharing your talent.
You have inspired me to get into sewing and I love watching your videos while doing my nightly hand sewing! I’m always so excited when you post a new video, especially something 40s or 50s inspired.
The dress came out cute even with the striped fabric. In my unnecessary opinion it might be more flattering with rounded puffed out or triangular bottoms to the pockets, or if the stripes were diagonal flaring outward. In saying that, your decisions made a wonderfully unique piece. You did a fantastic job as usual! The fish fabric is absolutely stunning! I would love to see it made into a 3/4 sleeve blazer with black lapels and cuffs(with embroidered fish over the cuff button holes).
Very fun and quirky dress. The patterns are fun and outlandish together but they work! However, my favorite detail was your Dr Who shirt. Nice to know there is another Whovian out there.
absolutely love the dress. It is really darling on you. It is really out there, but with your figure and personality, you can carry that wild print off!!!
I adore your obnoxious fabric choices. life is to short to be understated.
Haha, true
I am definitely in the 1% that thinks your fabric scheme here was absolutely brilliant. I LOVE the orange stripes with the crazy fishy mermaid wonderland. It makes all my obnoxious adorable dress dreams come true.
i think it would be very interesting and fun if you saved all the bonus pieces you get with patterns and combined them into a frankeindress
that would be awesome
Great tutorial!! Love the outfit, you look fabulous!
Oooh I love the idea of this!! Or even just fabric scraps etc.. Love this!!!
It would basically be constructing 15 different collars or yokes - those are the frequently misplaced pieces! I usually use them as extra tissue for making alterations to patterns or repairing tears. It's too confusing for me to have extra pieces laying about.
@@AngelaCostumery We'd still watch it doll. Would probably watch you sewing sacks to be fair!! Lol 😂 x
Great outfit! I am in love with the tokyo milk fabrics. Here‘s an idea: How about making a surreal 18th century dress with your other tokyo milk fabric? I think a baroque dress with octopi on it would be so much fun.
Ooh, that would be gorgeous!
Oh, that would be absolute fabulous. I love a good crossover piece where the fabric is just not at all traditional.
The fabric choice was amazing! Also, does anyone else love the sound the scissors make when cutting the fabric and moving over the work surface, or am I just weird? lol
Nope, I love it, too! Almost as much as feeling the fabric, LOL..
I love it too. I also love the sound of scissors on wrapping paper.
Me too 😂
If you are weird, well so am I. I love the sound as it means I've started a new project.
I'd love if she did an ASMR fabric cutting/beading/embroidery video
Is it weird that I love the sound when you’re cutting the fabric? Something about how the scissors sound is really satisfying to me lol
The dress looks gorgeous on you and I love your fabric choice

Same. I love the machine sounds too wish more youtubers kept the machine sounds on instead of music over it
@@cocodakilla
Same. I love all the sewing sounds.
I think it would be cool to adapt this pattern into a romper. Maybe the the octopus fabric?
SpunkyGirlPaperCo - Megan Cornelius I love that idea so I second this lol
Omg a romper adaptation would be so cute with lovely cuffs on the shorts and pockets as low as possible whilst still being flattering; maybe on the side of the leg.
Meagan Wallace THAT WOULD BE ADORABLE!!!
When you said "if you have a pile of fabric you have too much fabric" I felt called out lol. I have several piles of fabric.
I have spent most of this weekend trying to put my piles of fabric away somewhere.
Thank you.
@@SarahBent most of my fabric is on shelves but im running out of room lol. I don't sew as fast as i buy lol
I feel like I can justify infinite amounts of fabric if it is organized in bins and drawers...but when it starts spilling out onto the floor and into piles it becomes a problem.
@@AngelaCostumery me too! I recently gave up a dresser drawer to random fabric so that it could be put away.
I never understood ASMR until this video. There is something so satisfying about the sound of scissors cutting fabric 7:03
It would be lovely if you made a pair of "the pants" out of the octopus fabric. It would probably go with every blouse or cardigan.
Yes, I would love to see that as well.
The fact that you have the imagination and creative vision for pairing the fish fabric with the orange stripes and that it TOTALLY WORKED in the end result is very admirable to me. Would I have paired these fabrics? Definetly no!
Do I like it? Definetly yes!!!
Haha, so true and so relatable.

That is a truly hideous fabric in the best possible way.
"...make sure things on the interior line up too..." *stabs tack into mermaid head in question* 😆
Life is too boring without color. I love it! The pattern would look awesome as a jumpsuit with sort of wide legs
That fabric is GLORIOUS.
Also, you can make regular buttons behave like shank buttons by sewing them on with a nail between them and the fabric to give space, and then removing the nail and winding the thread a few times around the thread between button and fabric for support.
Point of order. You can NEVER have too much fabric. 😊. Love the dress, so quirky.

I actually love this fabric, also the sound of the sissors cutting the fabric is soooo soothing to me. 😊

I don't think the fabric is obnoxious - I LOVE this beautiful bright fabric that makes me feel happy just looking at it.
I really appreciate the helpful tips that you give during your process. I never would have thought of your pinning trick in order to get a perfectly lined up print!
Octopus pants! The combo with the striped shirt is gold. Super fun!
Super cute. I love the subtle orange in the top of the dress and that the skirt is mostly fuchsia. Adds even more visual interest.
I’m glad you paired it with the striped blouse. The pockets looked out of place. I thought they were amazing and am glad you kept them. I like the tips for joining the printed patterns, and the sharing of the pitfalls not following the step for the whole garment.
I really enjoyed the fabric, and even more after you pointed out the mermaids. If it still bothers you, you could make a small applique of the fish over the right side of the bodice

You are so talented young lady. Your parents are very proud of you.
You are so inspiring. I don't even sew but I can watch you sew for hours! (And cook, and upholster :))
Well I just love this quirky little dress. Love the fabric choice, everything about it. The dress looked so you!
I loved it so much.
I think a cute romper out the octopus print would be so fun for a spring outfit
Gorgeous! That octopus pattern would make a very cute and quirky wide leg jumpsuit....
You look ready to go to a country fair. I love this dress.
I like your color choices. I especially like the added blouse--it immediately makes the eye balance out the design. Well done!

I love the pockets with the shirt companion
Very fun and quirky dress. The patterns are fun and outlandish together but they work! However, my favorite detail was your Dr Who shirt. Nice to know there is another Whovian out there.
I love that fabric. The color palette alone is enough to call it a winner but the design is fabulous. I agree the kaleidoscope effect is fantastic
Love the fabric and style. Feeling very motivated to get sewing after seeing this. Thank you...
This combo is gold. Love it.
This fabric is great and I'm really looking forward to the octopus one.
Oh my GAWD that fabric! It's delightfully bizarre and cheery, and I LOVE it.
absolutely love the dress. It is really darling on you. It is really out there, but with your figure and personality, you can carry that wild print off!!!
I love the way you mix fabrics.
I think your choice of fabric is lovely.
Thanks for your sharing.
My favorite pattern and dress. I also love the pockets and the stripes with the fish and mermaid. Subscribed!
A Doctor Who shirt!! Yay for that and I LOVE the fabric and the reasons you give us for choosing it 😄
I'm also impressed with how you cut the skirt! Thank you for teaching us that 😊
Now I can see it. It looks lovely on you as always my dear!
COOL! Thank you for the pattern matching lesson
I also love the soft music.
whimsical fabric and I like your doctor who shirt
Angela that dress is lovely and I like the pockets!
Love the print. And the octopus print!
this dress is so designer looking and classic. it's fantastic and makes you look fabulously eccentric and tasteful!
I really like that dress and the fabric you used. Please make more videos like this one!
Those pockets are godly!
I love your pockets. What a unique dress
I LOVE the fabrics you used, and the dress turned out beautiful and it looks great on you
Oooo! Neptune and the mermaid from Tokyo milk!
