I would buy a pattern or written instructions to make this dress. Outstanding design!! Please pitch this to McCalls. It would work for a modern dress if shortened. Love it!!
In the past few months I have viewed tons of historic remakes and wondered why? With this dress I totally get it. This dress is absolutely stunning. Great job!
So lovely, especially the sleeve ruffles and bust gathers. It makes me think of Autumn & Apples & Pumpkins & Pies. Just a very Fall sort of vibe. As does the fabric for the other dress.
The neckline looks darling on you! Something about the dresses of the 1840s is just so fun and playful to me. It's one of my favorite eras and it was so nice to see you doing historical costumes again. I'm excited to see the sister dress! Lovely video as always dear!
14:58 girl I really feel that, I recall at least 3 projects I've abandoned BECAUSE the petty frustration of not getting it perfect the first time. It's a hard thing to overcome, but please take the time to be proud of yourself with what you've accomplished and even being able to fix it no matter how long it takes! Til the next vid, love your work.
I knit and I totally get the frustration. When something goes wrong sometimes you just have to walk away for a bit. The last pair of socks I made, I had one whole sock done and the second one half done when I tried the WIP on... and realized I had used the wrong cast on and the cuff was significantly tighter and the whole thing needed to be ripped back completely. I still haven’t picked that sucker back up and it’s been months. Still mad, lol.
I know the frustration. I know crochet isn't as complicated as knitting and it's much easier I'm comparison, but, I have undone, twice, large sections of this blanket I'm working on. I tried at first to make a giant swirl. And though it worked that blanket would not lay flat for the life of me and was severely warped. So I undid all of it and made smaller swirled granny squares. The blanket has a swirled over lapping theme to it. After I joined all the squares, I did a somewhat thin boarder. I then tried to do a petal stitch as the rest of the boarder so I could make the boarder bigger. But the petals didn't match the swirled over lapping theme and it caused, all the corners to warp in a bowl shape no matter how many stitches I added to each corner to make it flat. I had done a significant amount of petals before I undid all my work and chose a simple African stitch that matches the theme WAY better and is helping to build the size of the blanket like I wanted.
The best thing about your videos is that you are honest about the less fun parts but you are still very passionate and it shows. That makes your videos very pleasant to watch ^^
So happy that you ar back to historical costumes! Not that I dislike the "modern" stuff, but a) they are clothes I am quite familiar with and I understand how to construct them, so I don't learn as much and b) you too seem very happy to sew some floor-lenght ruffly dresses, and a happy Angela is always more enjoyable
The fabrics are beautiful! And holy gathering! I totally understand about being discouraged, it can kill your sewing-flow! Glad you worked through it and got it done :)
Ignoring the color this is so on point my style . . . I realy want to make one similar too, but I am a total beginner so I have to do some other things first
Thank you for sharing that you get frustrated sometimes! You make everything look so easy, that it's good to know that even you run into issues and have to work through them. Thank you for sharing, and what a beautiful dress!!
Little roadblocks can take the wind out of my sails, too. Amazing details and design and sewing! I'm so enjoying your videos and I've learned a lot watching your process. Thank you so much! You're awesome, young lady! 💜💛💚💙💜💛💚💙
Angela, you are just so good at what you do, so much creativity and vision. Love your work and never give up, just take deep breath when frustrated, frustration will do no good, just be kind to yourself. Take care.
That dress is really pretty and it fullfilled your intentions nicely. I could see this transformed into a very feminine modest bridal design with delicate cottons and embroidered lace. It is so soft and such a pretty shape.
I look forward to your videos more than anyone else I fallow. I love watching your videos so much. I even research your videos and never can watch them enough
I tend to get really excited whenever you make something in warm colors because they are always in one of my favorite colors. I really love the material that you used for this dress. The overall color, pattern, and shape of the dress has a sort of playful but mature feeling, and I dig it. I'm looking forward to the next one.
So incredibly proud of what you are doing. You're such an inspiration for someone like me who is passionate about historical fashion and is trying to make a career out of sewing. Your content is amazing and so are your creations. I'm also thankful that you are open and honest about your struggles and road blocks with your projects.
That fabric and that design is so beautiful together. I have loved many of the dresses that you have made, but this dress is so outstandingly pleasing to me. Wonderful job!
Wow, the dress in the thumbnail is beautiful! Both are lovely. I can't wait to see them finished! I'm so impressed that you can draft a matching dress just by looking at photos of one.
I love how this turned out! I recently purchased 2 of your McCall patterns and I cannot wait, to get started on them, especially the corset! I’m a bit intimidated by the process, but thankfully, I have a ton of old bed sheets, to be used for my mockups. Thank you, Angela, for sharing your beautiful outfits with us!
I thoroughly enjoyed watching the construction process of this period piece. My favorite part was the sleeves. I loved the sleeve detail because it is so feminine and I cannot wait to see how the sleeves move and appear while you wear the garment. The creativity you express is so awe inspiring. I felt like this garment really clicked for you, if that makes sense. Given the stress you mention you have been experiencing I think this project must have felt like a mini vacation for you. :) Keep going! You are doing phenomenal, incredible things. I will look forward to Part 2. Thank you.
I am rewatching this video in January 2020, and I find it very interesting how many new patterns have similar sleeves to this dress now!! 😍 I love this dress!!! 🥰
That dress is so beautiful and cute! I would love a pattern for that!! And I'm really glad you've got to do something you really enjoy again. It's always nice to see people follow their passions
Absolutely beautiful! And I completely understand the frustration of getting half way through a project and having to quick rig a solution. Arms are the trickiest for me as well. Sometimes I power through and fix my mistakes and other times I get so frustrated that I have to put the project aside and take time to "breathe" lol. Your videos are an immense inspiration!
I fell in love with the original dress on the Met website a couple weeks ago and kept going back to look at it on my 1850s Ladies Pinterest album, so it's really neat to find this video and watch you put it together! Awesome job with the dress and making the videos--you squeeze so much in!
I can relate to being put off when I have an obstacle in my sewing or when attempting to adjust a pattern. Often I will just abandon the whole thing. Great that you worked through it, I am inspired :) Love the result!
Love your work and the dresses and accsesories, you always chose the best. My mother use to made dresses too in the 80s and I learn with her the basics not the big stuff now I wish how to do it. You are young and you are doing a great job, keep going. I saw in the back that you have Avon calendar prints, I use to have it then I lost them, they are beautiful.
I’m laying in bed, it’s almost 1 a.m. , and I want to stand and applaud your craftsmanship on this lovely dress! ...but my cats laying on me and I’m super comfy. So! I am mentally standing...👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼😍😸🤷🏻♀️♥️
who are the 14 people who said they don't like it... idk! loved the dress and the video! so glad you got to do something that you truly enjoy! it is important to do that from time to time :)
I love this dress. If I were to remake this for myself, I’d use a plain fabric without a design and as for the color, I’m not quite sure yet. Non the less, beautiful design.
The fabrics had really nice colours and the dress is REALLY nice! Hand soeing makes a difference in how the garment flows, so maybe that is why the sleeves felt different? Great job! The neatness of it all is gag-worthy! I don't have the hand clap emoji but that times a million for the hand stiching eleganza of this dress! Category is... 1840's realness! Good luck with Mc Call's!
I have had a similar problem with my dress form and the way I fixed it was to put one of my old bras on it and pad it out. That way you can have the bust rise starting a bit lower
I crochet and I've actually been putting off this Afghan that I'm working on because I just needed a break. But Just like you said once you stop it's hard to start again. But your video helped I'll work on it some more. Thanks and good luck. Also I think a light blue or yellow dress would look great with your coloring. Please consider trying a dress with these colors. Just a suggestion but room for thought. I really like the dress. Thanks for the video😊
Beautyfull!!! Seriously I love the dress so much, easy I make the skirt Chanel long soft fashion petticoat and finish. Wear to dinner , theater or cocktail.
I love your videos! They are helping me work up to making my first historical costume hopefully in time for rennfaire! On a completely unrelated note: girl! Close your browser tabs, oh my goodness I've never seen so many!
This orange dress is the one I want to sew and wear someday. I love how it came together. I hope you are able to have it made into a pattern. I will buy it. I already have my eye on several patterns of yours that are new this year. Can you do a Q&A video where you explain how you’ve advance in your sewing and pattern making experience? I would love to design some vintage inspired clothing for children and mothers and I’m not sure how to get into drafting and draping.
Great video and beautiful dress! I'm really drawn to this one! You have done some abso stunning ones but for some reason this calls to me, with no petticoats! Can't wait to see the pics! 😀
Sometimes it's nice to unwind and make something you KNOW you can and should make, even if it's somewhat "boring" or whatever. It can be more relaxing than more intense projects that require certain precision.
I think I you made the bodice from a light blue cotton or something it could totally pass as a modern day crop top! I love this dress it’s really beautiful
If you shortened this to about knee length and had it in a plain colour instead of print it would be soo wearable... I could totally see any of my aunts or friends wearing this in navy/cream/gold to an event or party... just wish I had the skills to make it myself lol 😊❤
1840s isn't usually my favorite however I am completely in love with this dress, I know you said you wanted this one to be just for fun, but if you were feeling up to it you should totally pitch it to McCall's, it's so beautiful
Amazing sewing! The dress turned out quite well. Would an original dress of this design be made of a printed fabric? I think that was the original idea of calico, maybe? The pattern was printed on and not woven in to the base cotton.
Gorgeous dress! :D as always I love watching/listening to your videos! I always learn minor sewing things I never knew about or learned and it helps me a lot. Keep at it!
You always create such beautiful dresses! I wish I could sew as well as you do! Keep up the amazing work, and always take the fun breaks if you need to like you did in this case! :)
I would buy a pattern or written instructions to make this dress. Outstanding design!! Please pitch this to McCalls. It would work for a modern dress if shortened. Love it!!
Totally agree!!
I'm in! This would look so pretty at a mid calf length. I would so buy that pattern!
I was going to say it felt, like with a few alterations it would be cool as a modern piece as well.
spatch1000
Does she get any revenue or named credit on the patterns they accept from her?
spatch1000 same!
In the past few months I have viewed tons of historic remakes and wondered why? With this dress I totally get it. This dress is absolutely stunning. Great job!

I love this dress so much! The gathered bodice is probably my favorite part; it has such nice texture
Oh, that is harsh! I'd be terrible and just get more yarn and throw the bad sock away.
DScritchy Just frog it and the start over. You’ll feel so much better.
I'm yet to master it but a lot of people knit both socks at once. A lot of people saying it's great because they come out the same at the same time
My grandma's a knitting wiz and she puts both socks on the needle at once so she's done with both at the same time--might be worth trying!
The best thing about your videos is that you are honest about the less fun parts but you are still very passionate and it shows. That makes your videos very pleasant to watch ^^

Beautiful. I would wear that as a date night dress. So unique compared to what is being worn now adays. Love the bodice
Ignoring the color this is so on point my style . . . I realy want to make one similar too, but I am a total beginner so I have to do some other things first
I imagine your work occupies a large portion of your home... Sewing room, wardrobe room, personal bedroom, dressing and makeup area. WOW!

I know you made this dress for your own use, but I would love to see it as a McCall's pattern. Please consider pitching it.
Kirsten Paff I second that I would love to see it too
Angela just recently released a pattern through McCalls for a dress inspired by this one, so now you CAN get it! 😃

The sleeves & the bodice shirring are so charming! Can't wait to see the worn photos & the 1830's dress. 〰💙
Angela’s perfect diction of the word “booty” just made my day

take one of your bras and place and pad it in place on the mannequin you can make a cloth sleeve a zip on and cover the body to smooth it over
Such a lovely dress! Great job, looking forward to seeing it’s ‘sister’ being finished.

Such a beautiful dress. I love sewing and "trying" to make stuff. I'm not nearly as good at it as most sewers. But I still love it.
That dress is so beautiful and cute! I would love a pattern for that!! And I'm really glad you've got to do something you really enjoy again. It's always nice to see people follow their passions
Beautiful dress and beautifully made. It looks so good with the piping added.

I watch these before bed and it’s always relaxing listening to you speak. 💜
You are amazing! I love not only your creativity and ability, but your problem solving. Well done!
So glad you did this dress. I love to see how you create beautiful dresses.
A dress like that in a weekend! I am in awe of your skills!

I'm so impressed with your skills. What books and resources did you use to learn to sew and especially drape?
Congrats on pushing through and tackling the shoulders. In your ‘worn photos’ the fit of the neckline and shoulders is smashing!
You are so adorable and so talented for someone so young. You do absolutely beautiful work
Love, love 💘LOVE the short ruffley sleeved dress. Excellent work as usual!!!
This was really nice! I love how I understand better now the different steps because I learning to sew my clothes. It's fascinating!
I like to see what colors of zippers other people pull out of the multi-pack for their test pieces. For me, bright orange is the first to go.
Neon green
The dress looks absolutely gorgeous. I can't wait to see the second one.
I’m laying in bed, it’s almost 1 a.m. , and I want to stand and applaud your craftsmanship on this lovely dress! ...but my cats laying on me and I’m super comfy. So!

I made this same dress in an irradescent blue/green/purple taffetta. My first time to roushe!
I have had a similar problem with my dress form and the way I fixed it was to put one of my old bras on it and pad it out. That way you can have the bust rise starting a bit lower
I’m just learning how to sew and this really inspired me. By the way, I love the fabrics and your a really great drawer!
That fabric looks better quality than a simple quilting cotton. I like it and the dress. So pretty.
Don't push yourself too hard! I always enjoy your videos but if you need a break, we can handle it! 💕
Thanks for your inspiration on sizeing it down to a doll sized smoked 1850's dress which I really wanted to do for quite some time!
I crochet and I've actually been putting off this Afghan that I'm working on because I just needed a break. But Just like you said once you stop it's hard to start again. Beautyfull!!!
Seriously I love the dress so much, easy I make the skirt Chanel long soft fashion petticoat and finish. Wear to dinner , theater or cocktail.
Spot on with the larger hooks I think. Have you ever used small buttons? They were also popular in the time period.
I really like the color and the bodice. You did a nice job. This is the style I was hoping you would choose!
I love your videos! They are helping me work up to making my first historical costume hopefully in time for rennfaire!
On a completely unrelated note: girl! Close your browser tabs, oh my goodness I've never seen so many!
Oh Angela. I love it so much! Someday I'll be brave enough to try to copy you! ❤️
this is such an amazing dress! and it inspired me to work through a problem i’m facing with a dress that i’m working on at the moment, so thank you!
This dress is gorgeous, and it looks perfect on you.
I love this dress! I really enjoy the vlog style project updates. They're fun to watch 🙂

I'm really drawn to this one! You have done some abso stunning ones but for some reason this calls to me, with no petticoats! Can't wait to see the pics! 😀
Thank you for taking the time to do this, Angela! I love seeing this era! And I DEFF need you to do another pattern collab for the 1830’s one! ;)
Sometimes it's nice to unwind and make something you KNOW you can and should make, even if it's somewhat "boring" or whatever. It can be more relaxing than more intense projects that require certain precision.
By far this was one of my most favorite!!!💕💕💕
Beautiful dress! One of my favorites among your video collection.
I love this dress. The sleeves are darling 🤗! I’m headed over to part 2 now.
I literally watched you make it and I'm still stunned you made that. Gorge!
I think I you made the bodice from a light blue cotton or something it could totally pass as a modern day crop top! I love this dress it’s really beautiful
That dress is just so pretty. Great choice.
Hey! I ade that dress with the roushing in the front and the double ruffled sleeves! first time to rouche!
Angela you are so talented, you do an amazing job
Woot woot! naked and afraid all day!!! Love that show! Shows like that and 60 days in are great to watch while hand sewing
Amazing!! Your videos are always super relaxing so I love to watch them when I’m winding down for bed :)
glad to see the weekly progress logs again...missed them :)
That dress is stunningly beautiful!
Love your tutorials! Beautiful work and very detailed. Wish you would make more tutorials on your hats.
I love this dress. Excellent work. You inspire me.
Keep at it!
this is beautiful. please release this with MCcalls
It looks stunning! So great that you pulled through! Love your dress.
ooh, that bodice would be SO cute just as a top.
SO cute.
Love the shirt. Brings back memories.
You always create such beautiful dresses! I wish I could sew as well as you do! Keep up the amazing work, and always take the fun breaks if you need to like you did in this case! :)
This dress looks amazing! I'd totally wear that day to day =D
