🧐How to fix a spring loaded pop up waste plug in a hand basin or bath tub, Mayfair Plumbing Adelaide

  • Over the past 15 to 20 years the spring loaded or #popupwaste has become very popular, but unfortunately not without its own problems 🤪. Many of the #springloaded pop up wastes were and are still installed inside of hand basins which made maintenance relatively easy, it is the ones which are installed inside of bath tubs where the real issues pop up! 😢
If you cannot physically gain access to the underside of the spring loaded waste then there could be a long and expensive task ahead of you. If the entire plug and waste needs to be replaced access to the underside of this two piece mechanism is going to be required. With relation to bath tubs sometimes a few tiles on the side of the bath hob may need to be carefully removed?
In our #youtubevideo created here in #adelaide by #MayfairPlumbing we walk you through some of the easy maintenance steps and tasks that can be done to help maintain these fixtures and if need to be replaced. Like many things in life with some regular routine maintenance the life span can be extended significantly!
Today in the plumbing market there are a few more common pop up wastes installed so for us to carry the correct spare part has become a little easier as maintenance plumbers throughout Adelaide and the Adelaide Hills of South Australia, but some times you will have to order in a rare part from the suppliers. Plumbing at times can be challenging especially with these spring loaded plugs! But with a little bit general regular maintenance they can be easy enough to fix if required? It can very frustrating if you have a full bath or sink and the plug simply will not pop up, what a nightmare? RIGHT! 💁🏼🤪😫
Hope you find this little video of some assistance with your plumbing project! ""Please give it the thumbs up and please subscribe to our channel""🤞🏻🤞🏻👍👍👍👍

Thank you for the great solution. The spring mechanism stem snapped off at the bottom. I had already pulled most of it apart before finding your video. Stuck at trying to remove the drain plug outer as I did not want to damage the basin. I knew the waste plug outer was held in with silicone as I watched the plumber install the new basin about 5 years ago. Unscrewed the centre stem and took bits to local plumbing supplies. Replacement was $6.95 - Great Relief!

After seeing this video I went bought some new pliers and a new spring mechanism and after applying the technique, out it came and from there it was straight forward. Thank you for this posting.

Hi, The spring-loaded waste plug in our bathroom wasn't responding to WD40 anymore, so I said to my wife, "We need a plumber" and she said to me "I'll google it." And rather like Howard, who left the previous message, I find myself listening to a guy in Hawthorn, South Australia! Great video, fixed the waste and it's been working fine ever since. Nonetheless I managed to free it with a bit of gentle tapping with pliers (which you probably wouldn't recommend), and I'll now try and oil it.

Thanks for your video, but unfortunately by POS clicker waste is stuck in the downward FULL position, no return to level with the waste base, think the issue is that my kid washed her hands in the sink after playing in a sandpit that has really fine sand and its locked the spring mech, the "plug" part that stops the water from escaping will not turn, soon as this lockdown is over i'll finally have viewings on this hose and escape the clicker nightmare. and yes they installed clicker in the bathtub. I'll never have a clicker waste again and I USED to supply them

Hi, I’ve got a Mizu DN40 from Reece plumbing in a bath in a new home and the plug continually gets stuck down with a full bath and won’t release. I’ve had two new ones supplied under warranty both with the same issue. From what I can tell the weight and pressure of water in the bath is causing too much pressure on the spring not allowing it to release and drain the bath. Is this something you’ve encountered? Unable to get any help with it from anyone unfortunately.

The manufacturers of these pop up valves should be made to incorporate a hexagonal flange around the body so that all you should have to do is drop a tube spinner onto the body and it then comes out with the minimum of fuss and not having the potential of putting strain on the unit and risk cracking the ceramic bowl in the process. Just a thought.
