  • Durango & Silverton K36 481 coal-fired leading the outbound Cascade train through a snowstorm between the Rotary Park bridge and Hermosa. Then the next day with sunnier yet icy/snow conditions, 481 leads another outbound coal-fired Cascade train through similar spots. Absolutely stunning yet extremely cold conditions.

So glad we made it out to this place Alex. It was awesome catching these scenes together and experiencing the last of coal fired steam on this railroad. Thanks for lodging with me and putting up with us all! You’re an awesome dude man! We will have to catch up again soon!

Okay, I need to go there this season. I’m in Arizona now, not too bad of a drive compared to california.

Well this is awesome for me I hate stinky oil firing. Nothing beats the smell of COAL and steam oil mixed in the air

I for one will never go back if they are burning oil, I can watch my shop heater do that. They need to worry more about being authentic and less about making the hippies in Colorado happy.
