I spent the night at the campground by the Durango-Silverton depot while on a bike trip from North Carolina to Western Wyoming in 1984, and I would recommend it to anyone and everyone who might be on a similar trip, it was great! Seeya! ☮✌
Wonderful scenic train journey experience really we are enjoyed thanks for sharing beautiful video and useful detailed information congratulations to both of 🙏
🤣🙈 Gosh... that was awful! lol 🤣🤣 Still can't believe it happened! We were soooo embarrassed.. & then doing the walk of shame down all the cars to our seats! 🤣🤣
I was in Durango and rode the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad a week before y’all did! I did the same 5 hour Cascade Canyon ride, that blue water is soo pretty!
Oh my gosh! How cool is that?! Wasn’t it sooo pretty?! Those leaves too were so bright! What a small world tho! Thanks for watching & for letting us know! 🎉
We did the entire trip in 1986. The train passes over the deepest gourge with a train trestle in America which is something special to see and there is a miner’s village at the end with a good gift shop. Sometimes it’s better to take your time in a place than just rush through in a day. Colorado in the summer is wonderful
This brings back nice memories of when my sister, I, and a coworker vacationed in Durango at the Purgatory ski lodge in August 2016. I had first ordered open gondola seating, but after reading some reviews on why that was not a good idea (soot, embers, temperature uncertainty, etc.) I changed to closed train seating. We took the roundtrip option to Silverton, the views were amazing and showcased how beautiful Colorado is. It was a spectacular fall day, but occasionally opening the window made me realize my wise decision to ride in the car. Soot, smoke, and sparking embers all met me in puffs as the wind directed them through the window. However, I would suggest this excursion to everyone, if you have respiratory trouble just don't select gondola tickets. Durango is a beautiful place to live and the people are so nice there.
Hey Kenneth! So sorry for the late reply, but thanks so much for watching! Oh wow... I'm glad that wasn't our experience on the open seating on the train! We honestly loved it and didn't have any of the soot, embers, etc! But I can see how that might happen... We've ridden a train in East Tennessee that was open and had that happen. We honestly would have loved to see Silverton while we were there, but I guess it just gives us a reason to revisit! 😊
I just found your channel, what fun! I'm a native here and Colorado so I hope you can come back again there are so many awesome things to see and do here. Gotta go, I have to binge watch the rest of your videos!

We have lived in Colorado for almost 20 years and have never been to Durango! Never been to SO many places here. In fact, just last night I decided that this year we would stick to our home state and finally visit all the places we have never visited since we moved here. This is definitely going on the list! BTW, what a wonderful adventure you guys are on! I'm living vicariously through you. 😊

Durango is small, but nice everyone is so friendly. It’s a nice little hippie town. Once voted top 50 places to live in the unites states. Animas museum always seems to get left out of the mix but it’s a great museum!

You guuuuys! THIS was the video I’ve been most excited for. You brought back so many good childhood memories for me, so thank you! My grandparents took my sister and I on this very train ride from Durango to Silverton when we were in 3rd grade. 😢 happy tears. It’s so beautiful there along the river. Glad you loved it like I do. A couple of my fun observations for ya. Y’all are chasing trains like a couple hobos tryin’ to skip town 😂 At least you worked up a good appetite for those ice creams. I’m not sure if that funny sound Matt made was his lips slurping the spoon, or all the Vegans on RUclips crying in unison? I might end up with nightmares tonight just thinking about the little fingers that miked those nuts hahaha. Great video kids.
Awww love to hear that soo much!! So many great memories, I'm sure! It's so beyond beautiful there! We were in love with the beauty!! Hahaha gosh Jason.. it was sooo bad!! 🤣🤣🤣 We were A. We were terrified that we were going to be stuck in the wilderness all day B. sooo embarrassed that we made the train stop & have to do the walk of shame all the way to our seats lol bahahaha definitely the vegans crying! 🤣🤣🤣 Those little fingers are going to give me nightmares too! hahaha Thanks so much for making us laugh so much!! We always LOVE reading your comments!
That looked like a lot of fun. The views were awesome reminded me of the train ride we took in Alaska but that one didn't stop. Those burgers looked good minus the cheese. Matt I now know what you watched as a kid Thomas the Train. Natalie great editing as always On to 41. I can wait for the New England videos
Oh wow! I bet it was awesome! We never did a train ride in Alaska but I bet it was soo beautiful! Aww thanks so much George! Y’all are the best!! We are excited to share those!! 🎉
Beautiful! Glad y’all caught that train. I had to laugh when Nat said she ate pretty much all potatoes on her vegan diet. Sounds like something I’d do!
For when you visit New Hampshire, you MUST go to Pickity Place in Mason! It’s a farm to table lunch in the Little Red Riding Hood house/gardens. Literally a life changing experience and meal!! Must make reservations early though!! Also, about an hour drive from there is Hampton Beach, a beautiful and big beach in NH.
Agh man! We went to New Hampshire in October! We really enjoyed it! Lots off beautiful fall foliage in the White Mountains!😊 But we’ll have to check those things out next time! It’s actually our next video that will be coming out! Thanks so much for watching!

Oh, that’s an awesome idea! Thanks for that info! I think that would be the way to do it. We really would’ve loved to see Silverton, and if we’d had longer to visit, we definitely would’ve made it a priority to check it out!
I use to cook for the diamond Belle is an awesome place next time walk around the strater hotel in 2sd floor above the Belle is a room Louis lamore use to listen to Rag time music n write books
My parents almost missed their plane on their honeymoon. The train was already taxing toward the runway and the staff had to stop it while they ran out on the tarmac to catch up. This was way back in the day when airports were way more low key about security.
Wow we went to Durango in January and it was AMAZING! Unfortunately the railroad was closed but driving up towards Silverton is beautiful as well :) Loved the video y'all :)
Oh wow! Yea, I bet it was quite a different experience in January! We wish we’d had more time so we could make that drive because we heard amazing things about it! Thanks so much for watching, y’all!😊 Safe travels!

Hey Allison! Thanks for watching! Both the Silverton Train and the Cascade Canyon Express are available Spring, Summer, and Fall. But yes, the only train offered during the winter is the Cascade Canyon Winter Train.
Matt, I love your leather jacket, where did you get it from? Btw, I lived in Colorado for 20 years, you ran out of breath running because of the elevation...lol. But seriously Colorado is so awesome, you would need to spend at least one to two weeks to see the great spots there. You picked a great spot in Durango, oddly enough I never went there. Another great video!
Hey Kevin! Thanks so much! My jacket is from a boutique shop here in Nashville called Alegria. Had it for about 3 years and absolutely love it! Haha… Didn’t think about the elevation in the moment, but it definitely makes us feel better about our being out of shape! Haha… And you are absolutely right… It would take at least 2 weeks to hit the highlights! Thanks so much for watching!😊
You guys! Great video! Megan used to work at The Strater (in Matt’s defense, she says the diamond belle saloon was not closed on Monday and Tuesday when she was there)! How did you pick Durango!? Such a cool town but definitely off the beaten path. Keep up the great work!
Oh really?! That’s so cool Megan used to work there!! Glad to hear it wasn’t always closed! Was it a cool place at least?! Lol 😂 now we’ll have to go back! 😜 Since we have other jobs and are only able to travel 3-4 (maybe 5) days for most of our trips, logistics play a large part in our planning. In order to hit all 50 States in a Year, we had to be very strategic and visit 2-4 states on most of our trips. For this trip, we coupled Colorado & New Mexico together… fortunately, both cities we visited in each of these states has a activities that were on our bucket list, so it worked out! Lol… we always try to find the balance of logistical decision making and destinations/activities we want to visit/people want to watch… if that makes sense! Thanks so much for your support! 💗🎉
@@AdventuresofMattandNat yeah, it’s a pretty cool place! Definitely worth checking out if you’re visiting. That makes sense about grouping states together. Whenever I’d go visit her out there I’d always fly into ABQ because DRO was way too expensive and just rent a car and do the drive. Years later B6 started flying into ABQ and that made it really easy to visit her old college friends and go to weddings and whatnot. Albuquerque has some cool stuff to get into and Santa Fe isn’t too far away either…the green chilis out there are sooo delicious and the landscape is crazy, like another world. Can’t wait to see the New Mexico video! Great work!
I have always wanted to do a train tour and they have some close to me that also does an overnight camp trip with the caboose, but kind of pointless right now without a girlfriend... thanks Matt and nat..
Ahh we love Arizona!! Unfortunately we already went to AZ but we can’t wait to come back & explore more! Next State is New Mexico! 🎉 Any suggestions for AZ for us for next time?!
@@AdventuresofMattandNat I’ll have to find that video, where did you go when you came here? New Mexico is neat, but only drive through once. Have fun safe travels!
Hey! Thanks so much for watching! We did stay overnight for one night, but it was not luxurious at all since we were on a tight budget. Lol... We stayed in the Days Inn which has closed since we were there. 😬 That said, it was actually better than we expected for a Days Inn. If you're looking for a historic/boutique property to stay at then the Strater Hotel or the Rochester Hotel seem like great options. If you want a more modern hotel with a name you know, the Holiday Inn Express or the DoubleTree both look nice. For a more budget-friendly option outside of the downtown area but still close, the Comfort Inn could be a good choice. Hope that helps! Safe travels! -Matt
How y'all doing? My wife and I have been binge watching your videos. We're having fun right along with ya. Just a curiosity question, what made y'all pick Durango over towns like Denver, Colorado Springs, Fort Collins, etc...? I'm not knocking y'all, I'm just curious how you go about choosing your adventure
We are so good Justin! Thanks for asking. Give your wife our love! Thank you so much for watching & for your support, we appreciate y’all more than you know! 🎉 Great question... sooo we are part time travelers.. So usually we can only get off from work 3-4 days at most (unless I use up my vacation days lol) so we do trips with multiple states to cover more.. & for this trip we did Albuquerque, New Mexico & Durango, CO since they were closer together & we could drive between the two. We are so looking forward to going back & exploring more tho!! Thanks so much for your question! ❤️ - Nat

Yes, You have to!! It’s absolutely beautiful!! Umm so you are stranded in the National Forrest. There is a covered picnic area but I think that’s about it & we had ZERO service. So realistically, it would’ve been me crying waiting by the train tracks for the next train (which was probably the next day!) 😂🙈 We still sweat when we watch that scene back!

Lol… The food was excellent and the Downtown/Main Street was great! Isn’t it crazy that we only have 10 more states to release?! Crazy! But no worries… we don’t plan to stop the adventures anytime soon. Already working on some fun trips for the rest of the year… domestic and international! Thanks for always watching and giving us a good laugh in the comments! Lol… Hope y’all are doing well!😊
I didn't know about this train in Durango, Colorado, looks like so much fun! Adding it to our list of places to visit! Love your videos!
It's definitely worth a visit! The moment we saw videos of it for the first time, we knew that we had to check it out! Aw... Thanks so much! And thanks for watching!😊
We went all the way to Silverton. It was amazing
ahh thats awesome! We can't wait to go back & explore it!
Love the Cinematics! Love the train and the views looks like an awesome adventure. Thank you for sharing
Aw… Thanks guys!! 🥰🥰 We appreciate you watching!
We were terrified that we were going to be stuck in the wilderness all day B. sooo embarrassed that we made the train stop & have to do the walk of shame all the way to our seats lol
bahahaha definitely the vegans crying! 🤣🤣🤣 Those little fingers are going to give me nightmares too! hahaha Thanks so much for making us laugh so much!! We always LOVE reading your comments!
So great!! Funny as always!!! Beautiful views and walking back in heels would of be a terrific vlog 😂😂😂😂 Keep up the great work 👍 🚂
Thanks so much!!😊 Haha… Yea, I’m not sure she chose the right footwear!🤣🤣 Thanks for watching!😊
That looked like a lot of fun. The views were awesome reminded me of the train ride we took in Alaska but that one didn't stop. Those burgers looked good minus the cheese. Matt I now know what you watched as a kid Thomas the Train. Natalie great editing as always
On to 41. I can wait for the New England videos
Oh wow! I bet it was awesome! We never did a train ride in Alaska but I bet it was soo beautiful! Aww thanks so much George! Y’all are the best!! We are excited to share those!! 🎉
Love your videos!
I'm in Colorado i was Denver two days ago :>>
Ahhh… Isn’t it beautiful?! We can’t wait to go back!
Tickle says hey! 🐈⬛
Heyyy 👋🏻 😊
Beautiful! Glad y’all caught that train. I had to laugh when Nat said she ate pretty much all potatoes on her vegan diet. Sounds like something I’d do!
🤣🤣 thanks so much for watching!
That's where Amy grew up y'all! She was born in Colorado Springs but lived in Durango. Gotta show her this video. ❤️❤️❤️
No way!?! That’s awesome! We had a great time! Such a neat town!😊 Hope y’all are doing well!
@@AdventuresofMattandNat true story! 😁
Loved the video! Lost track of time huh, wink, wink. Great footage, videos and pics don't do justice.
🤣🙈 yes we did.... gosh we wanted to DIE of embarrassment getting back on the train & doing the walk of shame back to our seats! Still can't believe that happened! haha Thanks so much for watching for your comment! You are sooo right! They don't do it justice!! We can't wait to go back & explore more!
If u decide to take the train all the way to Silverton u can catch the bus ride home instead of riding train back still worth it to see Silverton
Became a patron, looking forward to more videos 😀
Aw… Thanks so much Suhas!! We’re so excited to have you in the Patreon family!😊
So much fun !!
Thanks for watching, y’all!😊
My parents almost missed their plane on their honeymoon.
I would love to hear about things to do in January!! Looking to go this January
I love watching all the bloopers ! Also o was vegan for a few months and I remember my diet was 90% dark chocolate 😂 oh and vegan garlic bread
😂😂☠️ bahaha Holly your comment made our day! Honestly that diet seem sooo bad 😂😜 & sounds like something I would 1000% do! Lol Happy you like the bloopers! 😂🙈 We appreciate you watching & thanks for the comment! 🎉💗 - Nat
I live there!! >:3
Thanks so much for watching!🥰
Silverton trips are done during summer, cascade is winter if anyone is trying to plan their train ride 🤷🏻♀️
Ohh… That sounds like a lot of fun and right up our alley! Hopefully you’ll get to check it out sometime soon! Thanks so much for watching!
Yup… almost missing the train seems like something Eliz and I would do… 🧐
Oh really?!? Haha I KNEW we liked you guys! 😂😜🎉 y’all are going to TravelCon are you?!
What state you two hitting up next? Come to AZ!
@@chelseeloucks1418 We went to the Grand Canyon and Page!
I have family members who live about 5 and half hours from Durango and where I was born 7 hours roughly
Hey Matt & Nat did you guys stay over night in Durango or was this just a day trip you guys did? What can you recommend for places to stay...
-Matt
I was born in Colorado I was born in Boulder
cool man!!
So usually we can only get off from work 3-4 days at most (unless I use up my vacation days lol) so we do trips with multiple states
to cover more.. & for this trip we did Albuquerque, New Mexico & Durango, CO since they were closer together & we could drive between the two. We are so looking forward to going back & exploring more tho!! Thanks so much for your question! ❤️ - Nat
@@AdventuresofMattandNat thanks for the reply. I appreciate it. If you ever go back to Colorado feel free to ask me questions. I've lived here most of my life. Anyway, have a good one. I look forward to seeing your future videos
*Cue John Mayer’s “Stop This Train”
🤣🤣
I’ve been wanting to go here too! Omg so what happens if someone misses the train?
Yes, You have to!! It’s absolutely beautiful!! Umm so you are stranded in the National Forrest. There is a covered picnic area but I think that’s about it & we had ZERO service. So realistically, it would’ve been me crying waiting by the train tracks for the next train (which was probably the next day!) 😂🙈 We still sweat when we watch that scene back!
Where is the best side to go durango to silverstone? Right or left?
The side we were on! Sit on the right side of the train up the canyon & then left coming back. (It’ll be the same seats so it’s perfect! 🥰👏🏼 Hope that helps!
parking tickets, bird poop, lost on a lake....and now almost missing the train. What next???
🤣🤣 I’m not sure I want to know what’s next!🤣🤣 -Matt
If you're ALWAYS the last one's back, that's just selfish and rude. I'd have left you there.
Hey Tom, we definitely learned our lesson. We aren't perfect. Just learning & growing along the way. Thanks for watching.
