Alpha reads from his senior high school yearbook: "I always wear a smile because anything else would make me have to explain what you wouldn't understand anyway." In this video men's style, grooming, fitness and lifestyle expert, Aaron Marino of IAmAlphaM, AaronMarino, and Pete & Pedro says that was the quote he chose which represented his life at the time. He wore a smile as the 'happy guy' rather than telling people what was really going on with himself. He thought this was easier than being honest with people about his turmoil and demons. He continuously battles them - and you should deal with yours as well.
    Hardships vs Demons
As you age, grow, and live, things form who you are. Some our strengths are from hardships. We have lived certain ways and experienced certain things that make us unique and amazing. Demons, on the other hand, are not the good things. These form us in a negative way and are the hardest to get over since they affect us on a deep level. Even if you compartmentalize them, they can manifest themselves in different areas & aspects of our lives -- they can potentially ruin your life if you're not brave enough to deal with them head-on. Alpha made a decision years ago to chose happiness over anger & hostility.
    Alpha's Demons Develop
Three years old was the first time he went to a therapist, being a child of separation and divorce. He doesn't remember much of that. About 10 -15 years later, he shut down. He didn't want to talk. He had several step-fathers, and they were emotionally abusive. With the 2nd step-father, he lost his ability not to stand-up for himself as he wanted to not rock the boat. He just wanted a place to live and keep his friends. He harbored anxiety and resentment toward his mother.
When he went off to college, he was still super pissed off. This time was very dark. He was a bit depressed. He was self-medication to numb the hurt, anger, and abandonment. He was very sad. But he graduated, and he moved to Atlanta, GA. He was dating a girl who was dealing with depression. For a long time, he didn't know what was going on with her, but he knew his own needs weren't getting met.
He opened a nutrition store, and got taken advantage of by his partner. He was miserable at home, his job, and his mother. He needed someone to talk to. He sought out a counselor. This one was a good one. What works for one person may not work for another. This counselor made him find his value and worth - it was a gift. Despite the bad negative experience, he decided he deserved to be happy.
    Men & Mental Health
Mental health is important, and many times, men don't talk about it. Perhaps there's a stigma attached to it. Alpha says that men are not equipped to handle the demons on their own. Those who chose to be happy and find therapy are the ones who strong and will succeed. As a side note, Alpha sees that social media is not making people feel good about themselves. He also sees people taking their own lives, and they even had resources to help them.
    Better Help betterhelp.com...
Alpha found an amazing resource, Better Help, through watching The Phillip DeFranco Show and reached-out to them. Alpha signed-up and has Wade has a counselor. This therapy is online, super affordable, and convenient with licensed therapists. Alpha feels he needs to talk about this since mental health is a priority for all men. You can always benefit by talking to someone about issues, and they can be your cheerleader. They help you get better - period.
You can get advice or help for anything - no matter how small and if it's affecting you, hit that link. Fill out the survey to get matched with a therapist. It's crazy affordable too! You get 30-minute session per week with unlimited messaging. It's $35 - $80 billed monthly. If money is tight, you can apply for a financial discount. The beautiful thing is that you don't have to sit face-to-face which is unnerving for Alpha. You're on the phone - and it's amazing! You have nothing to lose - take care of yourself. Utilize the resource to be better and more confident: Try Online Therapy

I'm a woman. So I know your channel isn't tailored specifically for me. But I just wanna say that your channel has changed my life. I let my depression and trauma from my childhood affect my grooming and attitude and just everything. I was angry, drinking too much and just being ugly. I stumbled on your channel and your advice and idk. When the young teenage men on here say that you're somewhat of a father figure they aren't lying. It's sad that today we have to find parental guidance online. I turn 25 in a few months. I didn't think I was going to make it to 21. I was so suicidal. So to anyone young and afraid and just tired of life and the darkness. Please hold on. I've lost so many friends to suicide. Please don't do it. Please talk to someone. The state offers counseling. Call a hotline. I promise it will pass. Thanks Alpha for making this video. I'll leave the boys club now 🤐

Thanks for sharing dude! Even the most confident successful people still struggle with their own problems, and it takes courage to share them publicly. I’ve been seeing a counselor for a couple months now, in their office, cuz I’ve developed depression from repeated head injuries playing sports. To add to that my wife and her coworker had an affair and ran away together in an incredibly cowardly fashion, and dealing with stuff like that sometimes seems impossible without the right help. The difference it makes to speak to the right people and, if necessary, take the right meds is priceless. Don’t be afraid to ask for help, everyone needs it!!

I didn't get my life together until i got diagnosed with ADHD that I was trying to muscle through until my late 20's. Big mistake. Everything was so much easier after that. I also realized i was depressed because I wasn't able to focus and not because I was not capable, hardworking or talented. It was like having the fog clear and being ready to take on life.

I absolutely loved this. At a young age I got a therapist because of extreme issues I discovered. It was hard, but I did it and recovered over time. It's a myth saying getting help from others make you weak as a man. In fact, it makes you strong and wise because you can't do everything on your own. You shouldn't burden everything on your shoulders. We all need someone. That's what people and friends are for.:) Good luck for all those warriors out there. You WILL get better. And shoutouts to alpha M. Been a subscriber for years now I believe. Proud of your hustle, and you inspire me:)

So I put a smile on my face to show it’s all good, which ends up becoming beneficial. But no matter those benefits, in the end those demons come back and tell me things in my head and say it’s not gonna be alright. Just gotta keep fighting and not lose that mental war

As someone who is studying and working on a placement in mental health and addiction, I cannot tell you how many times self-care and loving yourself comes up for the people I work with. Mental health really does have that stigma around, but it's people like you who are able to continue on and seek the help they need to move forward. Keep being the person that you are and keep on fighting those demons - and remember that you're worth something.

It took me years to work through my personal demons where I was able to get the point that I have no problem talking about them and admitting them to others. By confronting things in my past that took me down the road of self destruction. For many years I drank and did cocaine to bury my problems trying to act like they existed. It got to the point that I couldn't look in the mirror and recognize or respect the person looking back at me. I went to counseling and let go of the guilt and anger and the baggage of my past. I stopped cold turkey with the drinking and drugs. When I did that, it was my world brightened up and I saw things more clearly and saw how much I had missed out on . Today I'm the happiest I've ever been because I finally like, love and respect myself

I fell in love with a girl, she's pretty, athletic and she makes my day every time I see her. There's only one problem, I'm short. It's been a while since I had thought about my height being a factor in my relationships. I was so happy back then when I could just talk to anyone, or just stand in a room without feeling awkward. I know there are some people who are gonna be like "your height shouldn't matter, cuz your awesome!" Well its easy for someone who's over 5'1 to say to me. Just thought I had to let it out and share with the fam, I'm not being my most alpha at the moment, I need reassurance.

Sunlightshadow I am aware of that, but it happens too often. I meet a girl, we had good conversation, and then it just hits me saying "remember, ur short, there are other guys that are better than you". Until I had decided that my height was dragging me down (literally).

wrls listen up dude, dont listen to the inner voice that tries to bring you down. How does beeing small make you worse than other guys? Not at all in my opinion. If you are watching alphas videos i bet you know how to be a good person, how to dress and are probably better than 90% of the other guys. You are awesome! Never forget that!

Thank you Aaron for putting this message out there for others. In the past two years I've had 3 different types of mental health therapy and I've gone from the darkest place I've ever been, to the brightest place. I'm extremely happy and real smiling all the time...i feel amazing!
I also feel that from eating super healthy has helped out alot which I feel is information that isn't spoken about when it comes to mental health.

I currently and seeing s therapist and getting help for myself. Through therapy and my family and honestly through your videos, I’m beginning to see what I need to do in order to live a happy, healthy and successful life. The biggest thing, and you said it in your last video, it’s gotta be on your own gumption. You can either feel sorry for yourself or you can make shit happen. And honestly, I choose happiness over the things that have brought me down, and it feels great to have hope for the future because nothing is worth your health and happiness. Alpha, I love your channel, it’s helped me discover some things about myself and somethings that will help me in life and I hope you keep up the awesome work. Looking forward to your next video. And will also be signing up for tiege Hanley soon. Take care, man.

alex kanyima unfortunately there’s a handful of people who are incapable of understanding signs of depression, anxiety, or suicidal thoughts. Does “why don’t you just feel better” ring a bell? This ties in exactly with what Aaron said about the bad therapist. Most people are understanding because we don’t want others to suffer, even if we don’t understand it. I myself have gone through some intense bouts of depression and I know the feeling of reaching out, and being told that I was doing it to myself. Never listen to this advice, if you can even call it that. You matter, and people care about you. If you reach out, 9/10 someone will be there to lend a hand.

Born of Fire I understand the sentiment. Something worth pointing out here is the small amount of information the comment in question showed me. It sounds run of the mill, because there was nothing specific involved that I would be able to work with, aside from the topic itself. As someone who’s also dealt with severe depression and anxiety, in the past, I believe that you and I both know that just having it doesn’t give you experience in helping others solve it. This is why I pursued study in Psychology, and continue to study it. It’s hard to understand in moments of weakness, for those on the receiving end of what sounds like bland advice, but the bottom line is getting help via therapy, counseling, or medicine is all that we have to help aid those in need. A large portion of depression is caused by chemical imbalances, you either need to visit a doctor to get prescribed something to fix it, or begin visitation with a professional, so they can assist you in pin pointing the cause. What I say here in this RUclips comment will have little to no affect of how anyone views depression. That’s just the internet. But to say that seeking help is wrong, or that it is lazy, or not good advice. Is not good advice in and of itself. Regardless of the depth of the pain or anguish someone is going through, the first, and possibly biggest obstacle is finding help and pursuing whatever options you are given.

Aaron, myself as well as this whole community you built has the utmost respect for you because we know you have the same for us. You've helped me and countless others with possibly every aspect of life through your channel and ultimately, to a caliber where I can honestly say that you're a second father to me. I don't necessarily have family issues like some may have if you're wondering but regardless, you are a living icon and you inspire me to better the lives of other people. I am who I am because of you and I don't mean that in a sacrificial-worshipping way but definitely 100% truthfully instead. Much respect Aaron. Thank you for your service

I relate to that quote in your yearbook so much. I always smile, at least most of the time, to avoid questions or to avoid to be confronted with what people won't understand anyway. I've also had one stepfather for many years growing up who abused me in many different ways. It still effects me quite a lot in different aspects of my life. I still find it very difficult to stand up for myself. Letting my own voice be heard has in the first place always been difficult for me, since I've always had trouble communicating because of my autism, but the things happening in my past made it even more difficult.

The thing that makes this guy and his channel stand out from all these other male self help RUclipsrs/influencers is that yes we can see you are a super confident and successful man but you are not afraid to be open and honest about who you truly are. You don’t let your past defy you but grew what from it and you’re showing other males who may be lost or in a rut and are trying to find a way out a navigation system. Thank you for this video. I have bipolar disorder and I struggle with it every day, and I will forever. I currently see a counselor and take medication. I can definitely say that getting help for your mental health is one of, if not the most important things you can do. That’s for anyone. Not just mentally ill people like myself. If this service fits your needs, do it. If something else is more to your liking, do that. Talk to SOMEONE. A counselor. A priest. Someone.
It’s so important and you will only benefit from it.
