That is doubly true if I have never really lived the life that so many others have. I never really dated much when I was young so I do not want to lose the second half of my life like I did the first half. We need to create some sort of "old people without kids" club that does things like check up on you and make sure that the hospital/nursing home/etc. are not abusing you while you are senile. It would require paying dues in advance for the years in which we have too much dementia to be able to make sensible decisions. I feel like the lack of a reliable service like what I have described is the only thing preventing more people from going without kids.

  • @rnrtruestories

i don't think it's weird not to have kids, we have friends who have 1 kid and that's it or no kids. It's a hell of a commitment. I thought i didn't want kids and then we had my daughter and I absolutely love being a Dad but i don't have a yearning to have another one. I feel like i want to cherish all the time i have with my daughter while still having somewhat of a career. I totally understand when you guys say "i like my life." that's pretty much how i feel with only one kid.
You're absolutely right when you talk about societal pressure. I remember when we got married we got asked when we're having a kid and then after our first, we got asked when we're having our next one.

I remember I was in a restaurant with a couple of friends mine and next to us there was another family, a mom and dad two teenage daughters. The two teenage girls barely talked to their parents t just texting away on their phones. Anyway, after the dinner I drove one of my friends to his house and we chatting about kids while driving and one thing he said he did not want any kids imagine pouring all the love and energy into a kid and for them to turn around and not spend anytime with you because they were on their phones. This was a reference to what we had seen in the restaurant.
We both said that we wanted to enjoy our lives because having kids you have to sacrifice a lot, time, money basically you life and believe it or not there are some people who regret having kids and if they could get a do-over they would never have kids or have them so young.

Great video Aaron! I’m the same, I don’t hate kids, I even worked with them at a primary school for a couple years as a Teaching Assistant. I’m also a very happy Uncle. I have just never had that feeling or parental urge of ever wanting my own children. Not saying I won’t change my mind, but I’m 36 now and still feel the same.
I’m lucky in that my family and friends don’t pressure me in my life choices.
One of the arguments I hear is “you need to have kids to keep the human race going” yep.. I’m sure a world with billions of the human race will become extinct if myself and a extremely small number of other people choose not have kids.
Another argument is “who will look after you when you’re old?” Look just because you have a kid it doesn’t mean they will be sticking around to care and look after you. Even great parents can raise a kid who goes off the rails/falls in the wrong crowd/becomes a alcoholic or drug addict/ends up in prison etc.
Or what if you’re kid moves to another country for a successful career? How are they gonna look after you then? Will you expect them to quit their careers and run home to care for you?
Then there’s the argument of being selfish not wanting kids. What IS selfish is being constantly harassed by parents/family members wanting you to give them grandchildren.
    Just do you people 👍

We know you have a hard past as a young kid back then, but i think its a good option to have just enough kids and teach them how they should be raised that you've always wanted to since you we're a kid back in your day.. Just what in the lion king movie, "Circle of Life". And all of these are just my HUMBLE OPINION, and at the end of the day we are your kids who are willing to learn from you everyday.

Being a parent can be rough. I feel like the majority of people have kids just to have them. There isn’t a huge internal conflict on whether they should or shouldn’t have kids. I believe people should have a huge conflict and they need to decide if having kids is worth the sacrifices. Most people say you will regret not having kids but you have to look at what makes you happy, what you look forward to on a day to day basis, if you enjoy being around kids, and if you are willing to raise a child. It’s not all sunshine and rainbows.

I am so glad you made this video, sometimes it's an awkward place to be when you don't have kids out of choice. My husband and I got married when we were 30 and have made the decision not to have kids. We love our nieces and nephews but we are on the same page about it and we have communicated about it thoroughly. We never felt any pressure from our family but it always shocks me that strangers or acquaintances seem to feel the need to pressure us. At this point though I will be 40 in a month so I don't get asked as much anymore. It's such a huge responsibility and not something you should give into just because you don't want to disappoint. Our two cats are just fine with us.

Check out "I Regret Having Children" group on Facebook. Here is one of the latest testimonies:
“I am a 34 year old dad of 2 boys (5 & 7). They are extremely needy, disrespectful, and pretty much everything revolves around them. I find myself aggravated more than happy, and stressed out when I’m around them, daily I regret coming home from work, i cringe at walking through the door, to find kids that don’t even take their eyes off the tv to say hi, or they are fighting and screaming, jumping on furniture, the house a complete mess, and every meal you put in front of them is shit to their eyes. At this point, they bring rarely any joy to my life, I’m miserable. I love them, and try all the time to engage them with games, and try to instill morales/discipline into their lives but it’s like talking to a board, the only time there is peace is when they are on a tablet. I feel lost, and to make matters worse, me and their mom have pretty much zero support, I feel cursed, I feel horrible for these feeling, I strongly regret having kids, and if I can turn back the clock I would NEVER have had them. I want to go back to school to make more money, but can’t cause that would mean I won’t be around to help their mom who is also another stress ball due to the kids. Please add me to this group, I could use some support, and also see that I am not alone, maybe pick up a few tips on how to make things better for my shitty miserable situation.”

  • @Baranello92
    @Baranello92 3 года назад +1

My husband and I are still debating on if we want children or not. Like your wife, I also haven’t had the “biological clock” feeling. That feeling that I must raise children or I won’t be happy. My mother and father knew they wanted to be parents when they got married. I have no idea what that feels like. I love my marriage the way it is and so does my husband. It’s never been a topic of serious conversation because it’s not something that was needed to bring value into our marriage in particular.
However, I am also a nurse and I have seen countless patient who are in their 60’s, 70’s etc. whom never had children and who’s partner has passed on and they are alone. Many regret not having kids because they have no one else to comfort them. Even those who have extended families, aren’t always involved or maintain close bonds. While working with people, it is a topic of conversation that always follows the line of “ I didn’t think about it until it was too late, and I got too old”. On the other hand, many others don’t regret it regardless of their situation in old age.
Even though my husband and I are undecided, we both do have those involuntary thoughts that we need to have children. For me it’s not social pressure, it’s literally our brains telling us to do what we are built for. Despite the fact that we have the choice, It is a deep seeded human behavior maintained over hundreds of thousands of years to come to terms our own mortality and self preservation by having children. It’s isn’t something we think about until we need help and there is no help to be given. It can sometimes be an internal battle with ourselves when the thought of kids comes up in our minds even when we are sure we don’t want them.

Alpha I have so much to say to you but I'll try and keep it as short as possible. For 10 years now I've been watching you videos to help myself, I had a bad depression and social anxiety and your videos helped me to at least TRY and go out, talk to people, dress out of my comfort zone and work on myself. I started working out, got an amazing physique and became a manwhore hoping this would fix everything. Guess what, it did NOT! 10 years ago I was addicted to games like World of Warcraft and Counter-Strike which I replaced with working out but then drugs and alcohol took over and made my life turn from already bad to horrific. I got in debt, got a DUI, screwed up my relationship and eventually became homeless. In March 2019 I went to a rehab across the world in South-Africa. This were the hardest 2 months of my life, but also the most rewarding. I learned so much. Sadly I relapsed because I was just focused on staying clean and did not do something about my underlying issues I've been struggling with my entire life. Thanks to therapy and your videos I got out there and I stepped into action. I got out of my comfort zone, I interacted with people, I picked my passions back up, I worked in becoming a better human being for the entirety of 2020 and I still am. I am now sober for 11 months and 12 days, I am back together with my ex and it has been great, after more then 130 job applications I am starting a great new opportunity the first of March and your videos contributed to this. You keep reminding me to keep working on changing for the better! From the bottom of my heart I want to thank you so freaking much!
To anyone who is struggling with something, go talk to someone, your girlfriend/boyfriend, your parents, a friend, someone online in a chatroom, a professional! Accept help, be aware that you don't act like you are the victim and step in to action. You're all worth it!
    Much love,
    Roël

      Cause you have WISDOM!
Just because someone says something, doesn’t mean they mean it. My ex wife didn’t want kids, and I put up with her decision for years because I loved her! We got divorced 9 years ago. After that, I met a “hottie” married again and now I have two wonderful little girls. I absolutely LOVE being a father!!!! Who gives a shit about the expense, your NOT going to take it with you to the grave!!!!

    This ain't a song for the broken-hearted
    No silent prayer for faith-departed
And I ain't gonna be just a face in the crowd
You're gonna hear my voice when I shout it out loud
    It's my life
    It's now or never
But I ain't gonna live forever
I just want to live while I'm alive
    (It's my life)
My heart is like an open highway
Like Frankie said, "I did it my way"
I just want to live while I'm alive
    It's my life
Yeah, this is for the ones who stood their ground
For Tommy and Gina, who never backed down
Tomorrow's getting harder, make no mistake
Luck ain't even lucky, got to make your own breaks
    It's my life
    And it's now or never
    I ain't gonna live forever
I just want to live while I'm alive
    (It's my life)
My heart is like an open highway
Like Frankie said, "I did it my way"
I just want to live while I'm alive
    'Cause it's my life
Better stand tall when they're calling you out
Don't bend, don't break, baby, don't back down
    It's my life
    And it's now or never
'Cause I ain't gonna live forever
I just want to live while I'm alive
    (It's my life)

If you're an only child..... You better have children!!! You are your parents' only hope for a lineage. If you're a male child, thats even more so important. Your grandparents were thrilled to have a third generation born and now you're parents want the same thrill. Don't deny them that. Some would say.

I have made a lot of mistakes because of a lack on introspection and guiding role models. You've helped me in many ways, Aaron. Some decisions have been so scary but I have to do me and not drag others along as I figure myself out.
