Hello All,
Thank you for the great response to this video. I wanted to write a short comment to let you know that Erich Dusdal, the man who deserves sole credit for the genie in a bottle concept, left this world last night at the age of 92. A veteran of WWII and a consummate outdoors-man, Erich could often be seen deploying his "genie in a bottle". His claim was that he could bar fish all year and loose only 2 or 3 weights, compared to the dozens that are typically lost by bar fishermen. When Erich's family learned the video had been viewed nearly 400 000 times, they were blown away.
Thank you Erich, and God Speed!!
Sorry to hear. Loved the video, definitely using this in our spot on the Columbia River in Oregon. When fishing there we use 6-8 oz weights and pretty much 1/2 the time you lose your weight because of break off. Thank you and Erich for the great advice.
RIP Erich and thank you for this trick, I can't wait to try it out and amaze my freinds. You'll live on through this piece of genius, Heath Robinson would be proud.
ComocosonoEWL we use a similar technique in texas involving a bowling ball and a howitzer !
Captain Quinn nice trick Quinny
Well said mate, greetings from South Australia, check out some of my videos "Jowdie the Australian Kelpie " will get you there
2:12 the fish is like: weeeeee look at me
i use to just yank on my fishing pole till my line snaps or i bring up some "treasure" from the lakes dephts
Lol just did this today
@The King Family task failed successfully
Same LMAO
Did this today . Got my son to walk out and follow the line . He looked down and saw lodged between a rock cemented into the sand .
@The King Family man I hate loosing bobbers
now I have no hook and no bottle of water....thanks bro 😐
Lol
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
You must have forgotten the 3rd step: rub the bottle for good luck!
Looked like a great tip so I decided to try it, but by the time I drank the bottle half empty I was so smashed I fell in the freakin river anyway :D
Word of caution. Bottle can't be hard liquor.

Yea, I was just going to comment on it. I saw it @2:10 and was wondering what that was. What river / state was the video taken at +Captain Quinn ?
Christian Hernandez yup
Videos like this are why i love the sport of fishing. Sharing knowledge learned from others is epic. Great video, keep them coming!
Most expensive lure i ever baught i snagged it on the 1st cast. Spent ten minutes but worked it free. Ill have to remember this trick, Captain.
lost a rapalla floater on a snag snagged there at same spot 5 times then snagged one I could not retrieve, at least I pulled out 25 or so rainbows with lure before I lost it. 3 of them 14 inches or bigger.
If it looks stupid but works, it ain't stupid.
I can keep my pants up by hammering nails into my pelvis but that’s fucking stupid
you could flip the bail and throw the bottle past your lure then wind in really quick to pressure the lure from the other direction
Rod/reel combo with fishing kit as an emergency setup ruclips.net/user/postUgkxntWMOZsO1Zfv-pdn_XuffEtNkTYAYu4Z recommend but started to use this every day. The rod is thick and seems durable. I keep it neatly tucked into a regular backpack all the time with my fishing gear, and can grab it anytime, put it on my back and go anywhere. I just read in another review that the rod length below the reel is adjustable as well, so I will try that too for even more portability. Probably the best setup I've ever owned. I lost the cap for the eyelets, but no big deal since I still have the black cloth sheath that came for the pole and I use that. Very portable and high quality.
This is a very good tip for bank fisherman who fish where there is current, anyone who has lost a lot of terminal tackle in a river knows the struggle and aggravation of getting snagged and breaking off their line
Dude...y saw this video before my vacations and my favorite spoon got stuck in an underwater log in the middle of a fast river.
I did this and my favorite spoon was saved.
Thanks mate...a lot
Cool trick!
For recovering your bottle in case this trick doesnt work, just tie a second line to the bottle to reel it back on shore! It could even have greater chance to succeed if you have 2 reel/2 persons working that snag hook in different angle
thanks!
is a good idea!
No more lost fishing lure!
I say hello from Costa Rica!
Awesome. Thank you for sharing this trick. I've lost several lures and sinkers. Now I know how to retrieve my tackle. Thanks...!
This works! I was in the ideal position to test this on the river. I used a power clip instead of a snap swivel. I also used a 1 liter iced tea bottle. Works like a charm
Really it works I tried many times. Before watching this video I use to cut my fishing line when it snagged. Thank you.
Thank you so much! I’ve been learning to fish and have donated quite a bit of tackle
Thanks Capt!🎉🎉🎉I've saved several lure from their watery grave by using your Genie float trick. You're the best!
I usually swim out and pull the snag...works everytime
You would probably die doing that we’re I fish
Simply things is genial things! Clever, cheep and easy. Thank you!
This guy deserves to be subscribed to.
That is pure genius...thank you Captain and Erich Dusdal!!
that's the single best thing I have ever seen in my whole life !
The best thing was the porn movie "lord of the strings" i guess?
2:12 You had company! Thanks for this tip!
The wink in the animation was perfect
I did a search in RUclips for "how to get your hook unstuck from a rock when fishing". Thinking I wouldn't find anything your video came up. Genius 😁. Now I won't have to change locations I go because of snags!
You can use a heavy sinker attached with a snap swivel as a lure knocker also.
nice trick and shot of fish jumping!
Unbelievable backdrop. The mountains were amazing. First video.
this actually helped me tonight thank you
I've donated more than I'll ever admit in tackle so I'ma for sure try this one and it's awesome to see I'm not the only one
Thank you so much. I will be saving some money this year fishing my local river with this genie in a bottle trick
Very nice tecnique, and i got result after using.
Thanks for tricks.
Genius in a bottle. Good shit!
That's a brilliant idea. Next time that happens to me I'll give it a shot.
This trick earned you a new subscriber
I have tried this trick with a bottle in the Salt River here in Shepherdsville Kentucky. It does work, there is so many down trees and debris in the river it's hard to keep their line from getting hung up
I keep my fishing lures tight! Thanks to this video, I never loose them.
Thank you so much man i got back most of my hooks with this method
That is a very clever idea.
Wow im gonna try it it looks so cool never thought about that
captain quinn is captain genius
This is way better than swimming down to the snag lol. Ill be trying this
I have applied this technique on piers and docks in north cal bay area!!! works great feels so good not to lose your gear to the water gods
That was a quality idea . RIP Erich .
can't wait to get stuck again juste to try it out!
Awesome tip! Thanks. If you have a second rod/line on a lake or stillwater you could probably do the same type of trick and use the second line attached with a swivel to the snagged line and walk the second line around/along the shore and try freeing up the snagged line.
wow !! Outstandingly savy !!
I dig the new format and tips. Doing fine work up there in the great north. Cheers
Dude, great idea!
Cool idea. That was freaking cool seeing a fish jump at 2:11
FINALLY!! I'm not the only person that says pop!!
Hey captain quinn your videos are badass this videos awesome definitely going to keep this in mind whenever I snag up in the rivers over here in Oregon
Originally thought this was a joke video, thanks for the tip!
I do a version of that by letting a lot of line out, and then in one motion, quickly flipping the bail closed, keeping the rod tip close to the water to keep as much resistance on the line as possible, (works much better fly fishing), and ripping the rod away from the direction of the snag. Same concept as Capt Quinn. Quinn’s method is very smart and realistic, sadly because of all the trash that gets thrown a long the shore by other idiots. Great video, great idea. Keep it going Captain
So that’s how I’ve got a couple lure out by accident. I’ll leave to grab a rig out the truck, but setting the rod down for a 1minute sometimes do the trick.
simple and brilliant.
This episode is great
Thanks Capt.
Dudes the real MVP 💯
Thanks bro it is very very useful technique
Thanks for the tipsy ❤❤😊😊iam a beginner.. i tried this method
Good idea and it may work. Thanks.
Holy crap.. Thanks man.. Will save me at least 50 buck a year. Much appreciated
I like the guest appearance at 2.13
Thank you for the short video. Not an idiot mate as you don't know what on the riverbed . Live other viewers so nice to see the fish in the foreground do a roll for the camera.
I will do this and always carry a bottle with water! good tip
Thank you for the tip. I will use it today on neches.
That’s pretty slick! Good vid.
Capt.Quin!! That was something.......
Saludos desde Tucumán Argentina
Great tip! I am going to share it on my Facebook page!
Nice! nice trick, Dolph Ziggler brother XD
This works much like the way we release snagged reef anchors over here in Australia. Good idea and I may well use it next time I'm snagged.
that's a very cool trick, although it may not work every time , I can see the that would work over half the time at least.very clever.
Nice the dolphin at 2:13 min ( extra bonus ! ) cheers from Manaus - Amazonas - BRAZIL
Wow that was agreat idea ...thank you cpt.
Good one captain..!!! Thxs a lot.. definitely will give it a try
You deserve a lot more subs
Lol the fish stole the show!!😂🤣🤣
Thanks 35 year old Spicoli. Seriously though, good tip.
intersting . hope I remember to try it out.
Cool, never heard of the spark plug trick- might be cool to try in more of a still water situation like you say!
because of the flooding rains in Oklahoma, this trick MAY work as well on our lakes since there's a good current in them now.
gw197234 I know exactly what your talking about. Where are you abouts at?
zachary Kendrick In OKC. you?
gw197234 Broken Bow. Mccurtain county. It was horribly glad it's it is over tho it did mess up our river quite a bit.
zachary Kendrick I love broken bow
that is great! I would actually rig up a bottle like that permanently and just store it in my bucket
Thanks dude....it really works.
Thanks for tip. Good Technique.
Awesome tip! Thanks for sharing!
This video intro kicked my d in the dirt, I’ve been laughing about this video intro for hours. “As you can see, I’m snagged up here.... like an idiot!” Lol
Nice tip captian
this really does work
Very cool my friend. Very cool.
Great tip mate. Well done
Really helpful
Captin Quinn, this is absolutely brilliant! Here in North Carolina we regularly fish Lake Jordan B Dam, which is treacherous for consumption of fish 🎣 lures, expensive jigs, weighs, hooks🪝 live bait-you name it-the Leviathan of Jordan Dam eats it. Your informative video is absolutely brilliant and will definitely be put to great us. I yee Captin Quinn, continue with the awesome content and you’ve definitely earned the loyalty of The Clarkstars.
“oh Captin my Captain”
THANKS
Michael Clarkstar
Awesome tip . I have lost a few of my really good lures bc I was hung up on something. This will definitely help to save me some money
"I do not want to donate any more money to the river this year" 😂😂😂
Great tip
