Great tips mate. The best part about your tips is how we, as fisherfolk, should be minimising our impact on the same environment that we want to catch heaps of fish from. You're a legend Mr Moody.
I'm so glad I found this Im decently new to fishing and I know snagging is pretty normal but I figured I'm doing something wrong when I'm getting snagged every couple of casts, definitely aggravating.
No worries. I recall seeing this sometime ago and was struck at the time about how clear and sensible this was. I've subscribed and will enjoy seeing what else you've posted.
HI there Ryan. I don't tie that paternoster loop anymore unless the mono is real heavy as that knot reduces the line strength to about 54% of the original. I make a loop in the main line and tie in another line using the Alberto knot, which is a very strong knot. This also allows me to use a different line weight to the main line. I like your sinker release idea! I am going to try that. I was going to experiment with using a metal paper clip to achieve the same goal. Thanks for the tips.
Hi Martin, in my experience we’ve never lost a fish due to it and we’ve caught some pretty big fish. It hasn’t failed me once in a thirty year charter career and even in early days when we used to lock up our hand lines on big reds. We do use it only on the leader and we use a Bimini double to attach to the main line via our wind on leader system. Knots are a personal preference and we use this system as it has never failed me and also I can tie it very fast. As a charter operator getting lines back in the water fast is a priority as you can’t catch fish while your line is in the boat. But the most important thing is to use what works for you so thanks for sharing your insights.
Hi Ryan, I’ve been tieing this knot for YEARS! And all of a sudden, I’m not sure why, but it’s only been in the last 12months, when tieing the dropper loop, I find the knot, not biting and slipping all the way out….makes a awful mess of the leader. Then needing to cut it all off the braid and starting again. Have you had this issue? For you info, I’m doing the wrap anywhere from 4-7 times. Depends what mood I’m in. I’ve tried adding more twists, and also reducing the twists to a definite 4, and same outcome. Sometimes it bites and lock up good, and some other times, just keeps slipping as you pull tension to lock the knot.
King Fisher we have a cheat sheet of lures here. Ryan uses the same lures in salt or fresh. : www.ryanmoodyfishing.com/gear-and-tackle-selection-cheat-sheet-optin/

Great advice especially regarding sinkers.
Top idea on leaving only the sinker behind, I'm always finding line hooks etc all over the place. Sick of cleaning up after other people
Awesome tips Ryan 🤘

No sorry mate can’t say it’s happened to me yet.
thanks Ryan - a query re circle hooks if you have the time - would you consider a circle hook to minimise snagging on the dropper rig, and if so when?
When I’m live baiting I use a circle hook.

What is the best barramundi lure you have used in freshwater

The sinker just goes through my knot.
Tie a bigger knot or use a smaller sinker.
@@RyanMoodyFishing thanks mate, will try this setup this weekend!
Sucks when you lose your biggest fish because of the rocks Damn I saw a big shark 🦈 and he hid under rocks
