The only reasons his team have done well has been because of high end talent in the form of Watson, Watt, Hopkins, Clowney, the reseeding years of Aaron Foster and Carlos Hyde, half a year of the honey badger and Kendall Fuller whenever he wasn't in the IR. His preparation is terrible, He can't build a defense to save his life and he forces his star players because of pettiness. The only reason he made the playoffs in 2015 and 2016 was because Andrew Luck spent half a year in rehab and because the Colts had no offensive line, allowing the Texans to reach the playoffs at 9-7. And if Deshaun Watson hadn't bailed out his ass then the Texans would've lost to the Bills. 2017 was Bill O'Brien's true face as a coach. Remember, even with Watson starting the team only started 3-4. Once Watson was lost for the year and he had to rely on T.J. Yates they went 1-8. He is Marvin Levi at his best and Hue Jackson at his worst. How can he can excuse settling for three on fourth and one inside the Chiefs 20 and yet run a fake punt on his own 32 on fourth and four? People want to talk about how poorly run the Bengals, Cardinals and Browns have been run, but I will concur that the Lions have been run more poorly than those teams combined. except Ford didn't accept any government bailouts. GM and Chrysler did. The Ford's didn't want to lose control since they are the majority shareholder and would have given that up if they took a bailout.
Can we appreciate the fact that Stafford went from 5-46 in 2017, to winning the Super Bowl after he finally escaped Detroit? I still wanted Burrow to redeem the Bengals and net Ohio its first Ring...but this is a great consolation prize
Update: Matt Patricia and Bob Quinn have been fired. You’re free, Detroit (for now). Wait, never mind, the Ford family is still here. Enjoy more incompetent coaches and wasted talent with no end in sight
If you are a Detroit Lions fan, you are working on 3 whole generations of Detroiters never knowing what championship football is like. Ever since the Ford family bought the team out in the early 1960's, the Lions have only 8 winning seasons and ONE playoff win. You know things are bad in Detroit when you have to resign to cheering hometown boy Jerome Bettis winning a Super Bowl with the Steelers.
Is anyone in the Ford family who knows anything about football? I mean, someone has to figure it out sooner or later. Michael Bidwill shook off his father’s bow-tie-shaped shadow. Jim Irsay may be a drunken fool but he knows how to hire good people. Someone has to be able to figure it out.

Which is worse by Ford? The Edsel, the Pinto or the Lions? I do like the Lions but I completely despise Ford. No thanks, I do like my Dad's Toyota Prius.
I hate how some teams waste talent. Detroit leads the NFL in ruining careers. Barry and Megatron chose to retire early because of all the losing. Hell, Matt Stafford would be considered a great QB if he ever had anyone to throw to. Honestly Stafford isn't as bad as advertised. He had terrible coaching his entire career. Put Stafford with, say, the 2018-2019 Bears and he kills it, makes it to at least the NFC title game. Only Aaron Rodgers is better than Stafford in the NFC North.
@Blue Skeptic Which era was worse for the Ford family, the 1950s Edsel, the 1970s Pinto or the 2000s Lions? The Lions are the NFL's lemon of a team (Edsel) ready to explode into flames when rear ended (Pinto).
My great-uncle played for the Lions back in the 30s. Probably the last time they were any good. Because of that family tie, my dad is a die-hard Lions fan and has been since childhood. He accepts the misery and takes the victories where he can get them. I would love for them to be good. It’s not going to happen anytime soon, but just to see my dad be thrilled for his favorite uncle’s old team... Great video, as usual, Tree. The Ford Family has a lot to answer for.
We are the bruised and beaten my friend, what can urinating tree do to us that's worse than what the Lion's will do? We endure hell every year. And cheer for it.
In 1978, the NFL went to a 16-game schedule. In the 43 seasons since, Detroit has lost fewer than 10 games in 21 of them. And one of _those_ was 1982, when a strike reduced the season to 9 games. The Cleveland Browns have five more playoff wins in the Super Bowl era than the Lions. And Cleveland took 3 years off & then re-started from scratch halfway through.
As a Browns fan, the phrase "At Least we're not Detroit!" has always comforted me when it comes to football. At least our futility is entertaining and with style, personality, and character. Detroit's is pretty much...not worth the insults, which is infinitely worse.
Perkaholic How is the Browns a contender if the regular season hasn’t even started yet??? Just because they made good moves in the offseason doesn’t matter until we see them all win games
Lemadayslucas they won consistently after they fired Hue Jackson and added Odell Beckham and Kareem Hunt without losing anyone. It’s pretty safe to think they’d be a contender
They finally did it. The Detroit Lions have won a playoff game for the first time in 32 years and just the second time in the Super Bowl era. Even as a fan of the team that lost, I can't help but feel happy for them.
Kind of surprised you didn't mention the curse that Bobby Layne put on this franchise. Dude gets traded to Pittsburgh after winning three championships in Detroit and literally says that the Lions won't win a championship in 50 years. And they didn't. And the curse is still going strong.
He said 50 years. That the Lions still haven't won the NFC championship and are currently mired in sub-mediocrity means that the "curse" was ultimately completely meaningless. The Curse of the Bambino was huge precisely because 1. the Red Sox were an elite organization that was *supposed* to be winning championships, and 2. it was always some crazy 11th-hour freak coincidence that denied them. Cursing the Lions was like shooting a man in the head as he's falling into a volcano.
Lions fan here, no. The best season I could possibly reason for them would be a divisional round exit, but even that needs a whole cavalcade of things to go Detroit's way, not realistic. They are wildcard contenders again...
Tree: Stafford can't beat quality opponents. He's serviceable but not elite. Pads his stats in the 4th quarter to make himself look better then he is. Meanwhile in 2022. Stafford has the best season of his career and wins the SB

@@wagglewiggle The Rams had more weapons for Stafford. Let's face it. The man literally carried that team for years, even after Calvin retired. Beautiful. Only thing missing is a clip from Beverly Hills Cop with the Lions fan main character Axel Foley going off out of context to represent the fandom
The Lions last won a championship in 1957. It was also the last time Detroit was one of the strongest cities in the nation instead of the fallen dumpster it’s become today. At least the Pistons, Tigers, and Red Wings had success since, even though all of the franchises are in crappy times as well.
I remember when I started getting into sports it was during the time that the Pistons, Red Wings, and Tigers were all good while the Lions sucked. It was a time I assumed Detroit was a great sports city and I found confusing why the Lions aren't as good as the other 3.
See, Lions fans? That's the Super Bowl ring on Stafford's finger, and that's what a Lombardi trophy looks like. That's arguably the closest you'll come to seeing them so long as the Ford family owns the team. At least under Campbell the players are finally starting to give a shit

In 1978, the NFL went to a 16-game schedule. In the 43 seasons since, Detroit has lost fewer than 10 games in 21 of them. And one of _those_ was 1982, when a strike reduced the season to 9 games.
