Unfortunately, Marty Schottenheimer is currently battling Alzheimer’s disease. For all of his postseason heartbreak, he’s still 8th all-time in career wins with 205.
Update: As reported by Adam Schefter, he’s been moved to a hospice facility. Please keep him and his wife and family in your thoughts.

I've been a San Diego homer my whole life, I was too young to remember the Boss Ross teams my Dad still talks about, but I can still recall the horrors of Ryan Leaf. Marty had a lot to do with the change in how fans felt about the team afterwards. Some of my favorite childhood sports memories are when the Padres beat the Braves in the NLCS & watching LT absolutely destroy teams in his prime. I am really grateful for all he did for this city in his time with the Chargers. He might not have been the most creative play-caller, or best player evaluator, but I enjoyed watching those early 2000s teams so damn much. Even if it meant getting your hopes crushed in the rain when Nate Kaeding blows his FG attempts. 😭

joesakic91 AJ smith didn’t waste Rivers career. Spanos and his mismanagement ruined it for him. We all know that Rivers is better than Manning. The only reason Eli has those rings Is because the Giants Defense carried him there lol

@@Misfit_Z71 But Eli Manning still have to lead the Giants offense to the game-winning points against Tom Brady and the Patriots in SBs 42 and 46.
That's why Eli Manning was voted Super Bowl MVP in both of those Super Bowls.
Without Eli Manning's heroics and beating Brady at his own game which was game-winning drives, Michael Strahan and Justin Tuck don't have Super Bowl rings on their fingers.
You don't know anything about winning.

joesakic91 sounds like I rustled someone’s jimmies for having a different opinion and apparently I don’t know anything about winning. If that’s what helps you get through the day then I’m all for it buddy.

@@Misfit_Z71 Well, your opinion doesn't hold water.
So by your logic, Tom Brady was carried by Adam Vinatieri, Tedy Bruschi and Bill Belichick in his six Super Bowl titles? Was John Elway carried by Terrell Davis, Jason Elam and Steve Atwater for his back-to-back Super Bowl titles in 1997 and 1998? Did Joe Montana let Jerry Rice, Charles Haley and Bill Walsh to a dynasty in the 1980s for the San Francisco 49ers?
See, you don't know anything about winning. Sure, football is a team sport, but you still need a QB to come up clutch in crunch time especially in the playoffs. That's why the QB gets more regular season and Super Bowl MVPs.

God rest your soul Marty Schottenheimer. At least you are now at peace, free from the pain. God rest his soul. I hope one day he does be part of Canton.
