- In this instructional video, Arthur Coldwells goes over the functions of the 2017 Suzuki GSX-R1000R dashboard, otherwise known as the Suzuki L7.
Dashboard systems have become highly sophisticated interfaces and are generally quite easy to use, once you've learned the process. For those curious about their new machine or need to brush up on how to access or alter all of the various functions, this video will show you how to adjust ABS, Traction Control, among other aspects of your GSX-R1000R.
This video will also apply to the GSX-R1000 and the differences remain minimal. For either model, you'll have a reference point to learn about the inner workings of your dash.

anywhere to get analog instrument for L8?? this cheap digital shit is just completely worthless, usually unreadable, slow, unprecise.... absolutely nothing positive to say about it after 10Kkm on that bike!
I have the Triumph Street Triple RS, that TFT screen is about the highest res screen on a motorcycle to date, it looks too "neat" and reminds me of looking at an iPhone screen. However this GSX R1000R screen suits a sports motorcycle, there is something authentic/racer about it, doesn't look like an iPhone/tablet... well done Suzuki for keeping it real.
I just picked up the ABS 1000 model yesterday and I had watched this video before and it helped tremendously. A 10 out of 10 star review. The only thing I would add is that you can turn traction control off too by scrolling one more past one.
Thanks! Appreciate the kind words....
I'm about to buy one and have like to ride a wheelie here and there (closed track) and was having trouble finding if you could turn the tc off so it wouldn't interfere with wheel lift like my r1 dose.
Thanks mate this is great. Just got a 2017 1000 with Yoshi and bidirectional QS installed from new. so this was exceptionally helpful.
This bike is amazing. Ez bike too ride .smooth powerful .best 1k i ever owned ...✊👽👊 A mode trac off !!!
Can you turn the TC off?
240man91
no you can’t 👍
I can on my 2018
Yes you can
Great video thanks, just bought one and this saved me a heap of time reading. Cheers !
same right here 😂
@@yata_26_9 Me too. 2021 can turn off traction control, if you want to...
مرحبا هل ممكن يوجد طريقة لتعليق رفع الدراجة wheeli كما يوجد هذي الميزة في bmw ودكاتى اتمنا ان الرد وشكرا لك
Just picked up the new 2021 1k This video is very helpful thanks you
I guess you could also change the temperature scale from °F to °C?
Show them what happens when you hit the start button after the bike is already started. Also, worth noting, the bike has a nasty vibration at higher RPM's when you have the TC set higher. It becomes a lot smoother when you lower the TC.
Anyone know what the symbol next to the fuel tank means please? The circle with the line through it
Good video. Picked up my bike today so it was very useful!
Can you explain what the different rider modes of A/B/C do to the bike???? Cause that is what is confusing me....
I just got a 2023 gsxr1000rz, and it's was explained to me as this
A MODE..... Full power. It's a fucking a beast.
B MODE..... Power is close to a 750, but it's just a little more beefy, and throttle is set a little lower. It's not as touchy
C MODE.... it is set up as a 600 where it's only like half the power. To me when I used c mode it's more like a mix between a 600 and a 750.
I started on c mode and used it for 3 days maybe and switched it to b and traction control at 7. I was cruising at 120 and dropped down to 3rd to takeoff and touched throttle just a little and it still came straight up. I'm just now comfortable enough on a mode and I love it. Work your way up.
Level 7? Thing will hardly move lol
Hahaha yeah, you're not wrong. But who are we to tell people what level to start at? Lucky you can change it on the fly in a couple seconds, so no biggie.
It still moves, its traction not engine power. I use anywhere between 2 and 5 depending on weather and road conditions. If anything using a higher TC control would save your tire and would be great for new or lazy 1000 riders. It still hauls ass regardless of the TC setting.
good vid, pick my bike up next saturday, will be useful in setting up, thankyou
hey bud how do you get the odometer to show, im supposed to buy a used 2017 1000r, but it shows only mpg numbers where the odometer is supposed to be and is showing trip A.
Is it pretty easy to do? Thanks
@@flawlessfoose It's all in the manual. It's pretty easy once you get the logic of the system. You'll be changing all sorts of stuff in no time. After the bike is started, hit the start button a second time. That's your launch control. Have fun!
I got mine in 2017, I've changed everything so many times to get my preferred settings. If you have your TC set higher, you'll have a nasty vibration in the upper RPM range. Lower your TC and it goes away. I keep mine set on 2. For track days I go to 1.
@@64t120r thanks, I bought the bike, black and blue, so sexy.
I figured it out just like you said real quick when I went to look at it. Thanks for the tips. I didn't know that about launch control, im gonna try it in the morning 😁
@@flawlessfoose All the best with your bike. Rubber side down.
@@64t120r absolutely sir! Hey and I tried that launch control, that was interesting and it definitely launches you forward but smoothly! Dont know if i will ever use it again, but cool that I have it.
Stay safe too freind!
Great video, simple and to the point, sincere thanks :-)
That's a lovely looking Casio watch.
Hahaha thank you! Apple watch--Christmas present from my better half. I'll tell her you like it :)
Do more of these on different bikes
how is your redline red? Is it because its the R model? My 2023 gsxr1000's is red and I would prefer it to be red
Tomorrow I will probably buy a gsxr1000r 2018 if its as clean as I think and this wideo made me be more prepared.
Thank you SOOOO much for this video! That batry (sic) needs put on a tender! ;-)
How do u set clock?
this might be a dumb question, but how do you get it to show the Odometer on the screen, it isn't showing it but instead is showing MPG numbers and only trip A. How do you get it to show Odometer? I'm supposed to buy a used one and want to make sure of the total miles.
Thanks
Thanks for your video, very helpful. 👍
What is the tacho set option?
Very well explained.Thanks for sharing!
The abs system above the n sign what’s that more or less mine has randomly been on on my gsxr 1000
Can you turn off the abs?
No. But you can pull the fuse 👍
for races, which QS mode is the gear shift faster? 1 or 2?
??
@@tharris1161 Which QS mode is for faster switching?
@@tharris1161 gsxr has mode 1 and 2 in QS
@@perizcunha i know but is the gear shift faster in 1 or 2 lol
@@tharris1161 So what is the difference of QS mode 1 and Q2?
So what is the circled lightening icon?
I wud like to ask the same ? Wats that icon
Great detailed video 👌🏻
I know this was 3 years ago but I have a gsxr 1000 al7. When I try to turn the QS on it doesn't let me it just stays on off? Any idea why? Thanks
Hey Lewis,
Unfortunately, we haven't come across that issue. I'd check all of the connections to and from the QS to make sure that they're properly connected. Beyond that, I'd see if your dealer can diagnose the issue.
What is that lightning sign, below the word GEAR which is below QS? Just bought the bike, I think it was on all the time, then I went over the settings and now is not there anymore, just an empty space
Its the shift light
Thank You very informative
how do you change the clock please ?
Gr4eat and useful video, Cheers
Very informative 👌🏻👌🏻 Great video
can you change the tach to read more accurately on the top bar? ex, 1-10 on the vertical and easy to read 11-15 on the top?
Unfortunately not... the display has very limited options in terms of actual look.
Trip A or B not showing up on home screen?
Finally i understood it. Switched of the QS / Blipper.
Hi,Can it be fix on K8 1000 Sir?
Why should one disable QS? I did! Cause it's better for the gearbox and the chain. And i like shifting the standard way. Brilliant video by the way.
Why not just use the clutch? Or you talking clutchless without QS?
Never had issues with QS damaging gearboxes and that's for race bikes
It is not bad for the gearbox at all😂
Tc5 is a wheelie control level btw
how do you change the the pm -or- am on the time? I can only change the numbers, not the letters.
Move the hours all the way through. Once you hit 12 it will change am to/from pm
great Vid, thank you
How you Make the screen Black ?
Darkmode how?
thank you very nice video
i wish i have a superbike !!
Life saver
Great video great explanation
Hi how to change the gear to race shift? 1. Gear up and the rest down? Will that effect the autoblippers function ? Tnx
A N you have to manually reverse the shifter linkage so that you get Moto GP shift pattern
Thanks 🙏
Hi- great video!
Could you tell me how to activate to shift lights? I don’t even have the lighting bolt on my display...
Thanks!
Use your RPM settings.
What are your guys thoughts on Quick Shift 1 or QS 2?
I've only used QS2 (the more sensitive one) and it works well for me. I tried QS1 briefly when I first had the bike but prefer the quicker operating of the 2 setting. It's pretty close though, not a huge difference between the two. Why do you ask?
@@arthurcoldwells1326 thank you, im picking up my 2018 gixxer this weekend.
@@md12318 There's simply nothing to dislike on this bike. Depending on how/where you ride you might find the suspension a little soft and want to stiffen it up a little, but the bike is simply awesome. Fit a set of Dunlop Q4s to it as well when the OE tires wear out :)
i ride with QS turned off, its simply way too rough, halfway ok only for upper 3 gears, and lever itself takes forever to move up after downshift, especially on low rpm, with QS off, much faster
Mode 2 is gp pattern for inverting the shift sensor
I just rode my 18 gsxr 1000R home. Simply amazing. I have no experience with quick shifting or blipp. Do I have to let off the throttle when up shifting or downshifting? Feels weird not using the clutch? Any help would be greatly appreciated
Hey Mike216ism,
When you're upshifting, there is no need to release the throttle. You can accelerate as aggressively or softly as you like and click up a gear without releasing the throttle. For the autoblipper, it's best to close the throttle before you click a gear down.
Take care!
@@ultimatemotorcycling much appreciated. I'm getting better every ride. There's definitely a technique to it
@@ultimatemotorcycling does the qs have to be on to be able to shift without letting off the throttle? I'm still.trying to under stand whats different with the qs on and off. Its been off and I shift with out the clutch but I do let off the throttle when shifting. Please explain!
@@LEXXELITEAUTODETAILING Hi Daily Struggles,
Correct! The QS has to be "on" in order to use the QS function and shift without releasing the throttle.
What you are doing right now is the "old-school" way of shifting without the clutch, wherein you roll the throttle off and unload the gearbox briefly, which allows you to shift into the next gear. This is the technique that riders used before quickshift systems existed.
The advantage of using a quickshifter is that it allows you to shift without ever releasing the throttle. This can be done when riding aggressively or casually, saving you time and energy.
Hope this helps!

So which is more sensitive QS mode 1 or QS mode 2? Mode 1 is less sensitive then mode 2?
Level 2 is the most sensitive. From the User manual:
MODE 1:
The “Quick shift” is available. The gearshift lever stroke required for the shift change, is set larger and the force required for gearshift lever operation is set heavier than those in MODE 2.
MODE 2:
The “Quick shift” is available. The gearshift lever stroke required for the shift change, is set smaller and the force required for gearshift lever operation is set lighter than those in MODE 1.
Thank you for the response. You Rock!
No problem! Cheers
