- Tomas Jech is a professional animator in the videogames industry. He currently holds the position of Senior Animator at Riot Games on League of Legends. Prior to joining Riot, he has interned in animation at Pixar, animated on Halo: Reach at Bungie Studios, and was an animator at Blizzard Entertainment. Throughout his career, Tomas has had the great fortune to work alongside some of the most talented creative professionals in the world. But creative work is always a struggle, and innovation comes with a host of fears and insecurities to overcome. In his talk, Tomas shares the lessons that help him deal with insecurity directly and maintain an innovative environment in the ever-changing industry of game development.
This is seriously one of the most relatable and honest talks I've had the pleasure of hearing. Forever saved.
raw. real. i can tell he was nervous at first, then he became more comfortable with the crowd. i appreciate this for everything it offered - there was no hiding, no gimmicks. true vulnerability and honesty. thank you.
this is exactly what an insecure person like me need to watch... yepp be open and vulnerable, let people know who you really are and eventually u will feel connected with somebody who is desperately looking for a person like you
“Eventually u will feel connected with somebody who is desperately looking for a person like you” 🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺
Proud but Hunble guy..
I know how He Feel being an intern or got the JOB👏👏👏
His sparkling eyes and compelling voice what a power packed lesson for life
It blows my thoughts because I come from that culture where you are supposed to be tough in order to survive the harsh/stark reality of life
Nothing seen like this before, that guy risked being laughed at or worse if the audience didn't find any of it funny,
that sort of thing, reaches,it reaches at a deeper level, touches you and makes you feel "maybe that's what I need to do to,maybe I must be vulnerable, maybe by doing what he did I can be successful and more of a fun person.Let the world know, how exciting of a human I am"-those kind of words.
If you don't risk being laughed at you probably aren't being yourself. Especially with the proliferation of the internet, there is always someone who won't like you or won't get you. Confidence is not about knowing everyone likes you -- that's impossible -- it's about knowing you like you.
I love how honest he was. I've been one to rank other people's work against my own, hoping I wasn't the worst
Awesome talk, and he's got an amazing personality, cute too
Dude, thank you! Exactly the story ! needed right now!
Same here!
This was beautiful. i struggle with insecurities also. so il always remember his words in my moments of insecurity. Thank You.
Love this talk! And so true. We are all afraid to be vulnerable and to be ourselves. And often that can hold us back from achieving our full potential. Sometimes when you do allow yourself to be vulnerable, it can give others permission to do the same. And then we just realise that we are all human. And it's OK.
Fantastic. Your focus is on workplace creativity and insecurity, but I think there's also a lot more life lessons to pull from here. Great talk.
Goddamn, didn't think I'd find a Ted talk about insecurity. Let alone be delivered by someone who struggling in the same job I'm struggling with right now with the exact same insecurities I'm battling.
This made me feel better. TED is truly psychic
This was insanely good! Keep up the awesome work bro!
Sitting across from him, I can confirm- Brad is intimidating as all hell. Seriously though- great talk Tomas!
Loved this. Can relate to this so much. I like how he backed up his message by being just as vulnerable in his delivery it added great dimension
I am gonna share this to my kids, you are an inspiration Tomas, thank you i needed this to myself too
Wow this had so many layers to it, and has definitely inspired me to be more open. One of the best talks I've ever watched!
true artists! i love you both for your courage and honesty. Tomas, you are a breath of fresh air and a gift to the world. while i was watching this, all i kept thinking was, "Wow! I wish I could have worked with guys like this!" honestly, it would have made my path in life a whole lot easier and a lot less painful. thank you both -am inspired and grateful!!!!
I LOVE THIS TALK! The imposter syndrome is something that many of us suffer from. It has been helpful to me that so many people spoke up about the imposter syndrome in the recent years at both my schools and work places. This insecurity and lack of confidence makes it really hard to be vulnerable. Thanks for the reminder of a lesson that we can all learn from.
I feel like I can listen to this guy for hours, hilarious and lovely!
Super Awesome!!! Super thanks!!!! Thanks for sharing!!!
As I login to play League... Hits home with me, currently considering a new line of work and the games industry being one possible avenue!
"Innovation and creativity requires you to be vulnerable" . That's a good quote because Ex'pression college now cost $140,000. Getting all these unsuspecting kids into debt before they've matured enough to question the matter isn't a very innovative business model. Especially since Obama has cracked down on some of this nonsense.
This is my first reply ever to a youtube Video, and I want to tell you I am experiencing the same things you experienced while young. Your video is soooooo on point to the situation I'm facing and I thank you soooo much for sharing this.
amazing tedx talk... so expressive
True! :)
The part where it hit me was do not think success would help you get over your insecurities. I needed to hear that.
What I'm picking up here is the point that insecurity stems from a sense of entitlement for many people.
When you're vulnerable, you are also more honest and humble with yourself, thereby losing the attitude.
I am openly vulnerable. It doesn't help with my insecurity at all. It just pushes people away, makes them uncomfortable and distancing.
what a great speech! thank you!
this was so good, coming out from binging the whole 'so you wanna make games' series made by riot and narrated by him. damn so good
This is a great talk. You can tell how nervous he was but he kept being himself
Ah!I could relate so much. I mean even I am very much filled with insecurities and fear ,be it school or any other socialising platform. I wish to overcome soon.😉
Man, this was so good! I think we all - and I mean all of us - can relate to this.
I love this talk..being an aspiring animator and a cg artist myself, this is just so relatable.....LOVE IT! So honest...
That was really real and thanks but I will always remember how much of an affect you had on my life. Your authenticity is very powerful!! Thank you From the bottom of my heart

What I learned: If I use success to solve insecurity, I can achieve more.

How to Stop being INSECURE??
BE YOU
What is not For You
Its not FOR YOU..
GOD has his Own Purpose For You led by Holy Spirit
Not what the world could offer but what GOD could provide.
And Think that GOD created YOU different , Unique and
Wonderfully Made
Sat at the back of the room, wanting to be an animator; hey, that sounds like me.
Then I got a job at Dreamworks; oh, nevermind....

There is no BLIZZARD anymore -.-

I think you missed your calling as a comedian/public speaker. :)
This is so hard to watch..
What i learned is, being too expressive is not really appealing
pixar -> halo -> blizzard, jesus
Damn brought me to tears :'((
Protect Brad at all costs :(
Fantastic. Your focus is on workplace creativity and insecurity, but I think there's also a lot more life lessons to pull from here. Great talk.
