  • Rhonda explores the power of self-doubt. It's capacity to cripple, it's tendencies to terrorize and how it convinces people to give up on their dreams. And, ultimately ... how to transform that self-doubt into a powerful catalyst for change.
Rhonda Cochrane is a yoga teacher, personal trainer, athletic coach and author who is driven by her curiosity of the powerful body, mind and spirit connection.
Rhonda has published dozens of articles and is near the completion of her first book. Rhonda’s writing is raw, honest, funny and thought provoking, leaving the reader with questions to explore within themselves.
This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at ted.com/tedx

Nothing like a woman who jumps out of a towering inferno -- and then returns to save everyone else! Forwarding this to a couple people I know who need it. That stuff about the fish was powerful. Thank you for sharing, Rhonda!

I'm in a phase where I feel crippled everyday due to my self doubt. I'm trying to change things and take the leap to do something bigger. It's 5 am in the morning and the anxiety kept me up and made me look for something on YT that'll help. It's really good to hear this and I hope I get there soon. Thanks a lot for this. :)

Wow, amazing. My father was an alcoholic. He was such a nice an great man and a father, when he started over and over again, trying to beat his self doubts, but unfortunately he is gone. I miss him every single day. I missed the feeling how he always believed in me. That's why I'm trying every day hard and I feel that he is proud of me. For those who feeling crushed I can say only one thing - You will make it. It is not easy, but it is worth trying.

Thank you so much for posting. This is truly an inspiration! I’ve been watching this video many times over the last 2 years, and it never fails to uplift me. Five weeks ago, I myself began a running program. And you are right - running is hard when you’re first starting out. But despite the sweat and the huffing and puffing, I am loving every minute. I really enjoy the workout and the exhilaration, or “runner’s high” that I often get. Thank you once again and God bless!

Beautiful well needed and thank you. I never doubted myself until I had a tragedy in my life. Doubting that I can sell my house and the first person who came to view it bought it at a higher value than I was hoping. And it took so long because I was doubting myself. Not a young woman anymore but I have places to go and books to write, I no longer doubt that I can speak for Tedx. Look out guys I'm headed your way. I don't know how or when, but God willing I will meet you.

That part about dreams really resonated with me. It is when I have dreams and when they seem unreachable or out of reach that the self doubt button in my head switches on. In addition, other people’s discouragement only makes things worse. I know deal with that by not talking about my dreams or goals with anyone that I know. I confide in strangers because unfortunately, they are much nicer and encouraging than the people I know. Xx

Many people carry the heavy weight of self-doubt during their life journeys. Self-doubt becomes a powerful enemy that holds us back from achievement and success as what is said by William Shakespeare, “Our doubts are traitors, and make us lose the good we oft might win, by fearing to attempt.” Thanks for share !

I've always had a fear of people most of my life. If you dealt with emotional abuse and trauma in your life from early childhood to adulthood then you'd doubt yourself as well. At 19 i had hope of one day getting married and having a kid before 30. Now i'm 31 and still feel hopeless. There are times i think about ending my life. i try to hide it but what does it matter. No woman would want a guy like me anyway.Every time one of my friends name is mentioned i feel a sense of self doubt. He is like Raymond from Everybody Loves Raymond, and i'm like Robert in the fact being i'm ignored once my friend comes around.
This same friend thankfully has the patience unlike me to know that one day i'll overcome my self doubt including fear of women and people.

I in a phase where my job is not great in terms of pay. I am don't laugh much, I don't have sense of humor and may be because of this I am not able to attract anybody in my life. I feel, if one of colleague loves the company of the other colleague of our, but not my company. Coz may be I am not impressive in any ways. All the times I keep talking about my struggles etc. Why would somebody love me. I tried to make a girlfriend all my collage life but I failed to impress anybody. And now at job also I fail to make a good friends who will like me and wait for me at office.

I dunno. "I know that you were born free of self-doubt.". Really? I thought everybody was born helpless. Is helpless different than self-doubt? I guess that would depend on your self-awareness/concept-of-self. Analyze this poem, and tell me what you think:
    The Jury's Still Out
I wake up sleepy, and in a haze.
New to the world, and learning its ways.
    Had breakfast, being spoon-fed.
    (Didn't pay attention)
Cramming new knowlege into my head.
Then out of nowhere I hear, "How was that?".
I think, "Whatever.", wanting to avoid a spat.
I knew my opinion had no clout.
But I also knew the jury was out.
How was first day at school? Did you make new friends?
Was school cool? "Whatever.", I don't know how it ends.
Whatcha gonna do when ya grow up?, they ask.
Picked the classes you want to take?
I had an idea; wasn't too big of a task.
I just wanted to avoid being a fake.
I know my opinion has no clout.
But I also know the jury is out.
Who'll you work for? Whatcha gonna do?
How will you retire? Where will you live?
Takes a lot of money to get your own crew.
Just living life is a whole lot to give.
    Then:
Did you work hard? did you give your best?
I've another question, but can I be blunt?
Haven't you done enough? Shouldn't you take a rest?
Isn't it time for your last final stunt?
I know my opinion has no clout.
But I also know the jury's still out.
    Hindsight is usually twenty/twenty.
Are you satisfied with all you gave?
Have a lot of memories? Are they good and plenty?
What do yo want on your stone at your grave?
Yeah, there're a lot a things to think about.
But I know my opinion has very little clout.
And all I have to say, is that the jury's still out.
