    What if Dementors were more like Armus from Star Trek the Next Generation. In Star Trek, Armus was all the negative emotions and evil intent that an alien race had purged from themselves. It manifested itself into a sentient puddle of black goo that was the personification of pure evil.
    What if Ekrezdis was experimenting trying to find a way to purge his own madness. He experimented on on sailor first before trying it on himself. He thought he had it figured out and attempted to purge his madness. He succeeded but the the madness magically manifested itself into the first Dementor and it killed Ekrezdis.

    I don't think that Ekrizdis is the one who created the first Dementors. Let's re-read that passage again: "Those who entered to investigate refused afterwards to talk of what they had found inside, but the least frightening part of it was that the place was infested with Dementors. This reads, at least to me, like Dementors predate the creation of Azkaban, of the island but that an infestation of them was disturbingly unique to Azkaban.
    We also know that they breed like a fungi and I think this might be the actual origin of the Dementors. Like a house that suffered from moisture problems can become a breeding ground for mold, so might a place that has been tainted by dark magic performed between its walls, that has seen tremendous amounts of pain, misery and despairs, breed Dementors. Once they are there, they will create an environment where their kind thrives. Ekrizdis' vile experiments with dark magic might have been of such primordial evil that it turned Azkaban is the most Dementor-infested place on the globe, as where magical torture dungeons might have been known to spawn a Dementor or two, Azkaban Castle bringing forth thousands...

      I think what might have scared them was the remains of all the soulless bodies in the castle. There could have been thousands, lost sailors or captives. Maybe they didn't die? What would soulless bodies, without thought do in such environments and being further preyed upon by dementors. I also think the dementors might still hold attachment to the former bodies which is why they don't want to leave.
      I also think evil wizard guy just failed to achieve lichdom like voldemort and he might be the first

    Perhaps dementors were a side effect of Ekrizdis’ experiments. Similarly to how Peeves was never alive, and is simply an accumulation of the chaotic energy of all the students that called Hogwarts home. Maybe the first dementor was an accumulation of all the anguish, despair and torment that occurred within Azkaban.

    Why not do a theory on the Diadem of Ravenclaw holding the curse on the defense against the dark arts position? All the horcrux's had dark powers. And Dumbledore admitted to Harry that since he turned Tom Riddle down for the job, no defense against the dark arts teacher lasted more than a year. But one should ask: "How do you curse a job position? " Most people think that once Voldemort was finally dead, the curse broke. But if that was the case, why did the curse remain when he lost his powers? Voldemort was alone for many years, neither alive nor dead. So you would think that the defense against the dark arts job curse would've broken, but it wasn't. Somehow, the curse on a job position continued. We know voldemort hid the Diadem of Ravenclaw in the room of requirement. A place not many knew about. The diadem of Ravenclaw was a horcrux. A piece of Voldemort's soul hid inside it. The diadem was hidden inside Hogwarts. Therefore, that's what affected the position. Voldemort's soul had to simply target the new teacher. Look how powerful the diary was.

    • @Larka661
      @Larka661 8 месяцев назад +1

      @TheGoddamnBacon I actually came up with this theory because it makes sense. All the Horcrux's had curses on them. And we know voldemort applied for the job when dibit was headmaster. But turned him down. That's when it's theorized he asked the Gray lady about the diadem, and she told him. Later, he applied again for the defense against the dark arts teacher when Dumbledore was headmaster. And Dumbledore turned him down because Dumbledore knew his real intentions. And Dumbledore couldn't keep a defense against the dark arts teacher for more than a year after he turned voldemort down. And the diadem was a horcrux, and he hid it in the room of requirement. And not many people knew about it, not even Dumbledore. He mentions in the 4th book that he needed to go to the bathroom and he found one, but was never able to find it again. So, how else could that position have been cursed, if it wasn't the horcrux hidden in the room of requirement?

    I had to grab a coat while listening to this one. Following along with your thoughts, I can’t help but wonder if Rowling was influenced in her creation of soul-harvesting Dementors by the Grim Reaper which is often associated with the Black Death which plagued Europe during the 14th century.
    The thoughts, arguments, and reasoning behind your theories are very well supported, convincing enough to compel both magical and non-magic hearers alike. You’d make a formidable Professor at Hogwarts.

    Assuming that Ekrizdis creater dementors is false imo. Dementors have appeared in ancient history (story of Illyius and Raczidian) as has the patronus charm. No where does it claim that Ekrizdis created dementors, only that when Azkaban island was discovered, dementors were the LEAST frightening thing on it. Ekrizdis had done/made other terrible things there. It's more likely that Azkaban attracted a bunch of dementors due to it's dark magic. Also when Lupin describes dementors he says they infest thr foulest places. Meaning many places not just azkaban.

  • @wrorchestra1
    @wrorchestra1 8 месяцев назад +9

    I always thought that Dementors were the results of some dark experiments on Lethifolds. As Lethifolds are affected by the Patronus charm, it maybe that they are related in an unnatural way. Maybe trying to cross a Lethifold with another creature. Experimentation on Magical Creatures is banned and the Island would've been a good place to do it.

  • @rhueoflandorin
    @rhueoflandorin 8 месяцев назад +4

    I think i like my theories better....
    First theory was that Dementors are born when a human commits suicide in the presence of residual magic. What do i mean by residual magic? I mean, where magic was performed there remains a trace, forevermore....the trace weakens with age, but if the magic is more fresh, or particularly dark, the chances of a demon spawning into existance from that magic near the place a muggle commits suicide increases. Bit of a stretch, and also means dementors CANNOT breed themselves in the normal sense...they multiply by causing so much depression that people take their own lives, and if that occurs in a place where magic still lingers, there's a chance that magic can manifest into a dementor.
    Theory two was due, in large part to Harry's boggart displaying similar magical traits to a dementor (causing harry to relive his past trauams...) the theory goes that a BOGGART BECOMES a dementor if it SUCCEEDS in causing a human witch or wizard to fall prey to it for long enough... ie: they sap the magic out of a wizard and "evolve" like a friggin pokemon INTO their final form: the dementor. This explains why a boggart was able to display the magical qualities of a dementor but other things it can transform into...it doesn't gain those traits....like if it turned into a basilisk, it wouldn't have been able to "kill on sight". But since it is fundamentally a "baby dementor" it has the same magical traits as a boggart (or can have)

    I agree with you for the most part these theories make sense. What I disagree is that you say Avada Kedavra rips the soul out of your body as if it was a fact. It is not a fact because we don't know how Avada Kedavra kills you. I think that the curse simply shut down all of the body parts function, making it seem more merciful in a way but even an organs shut down is not actually nice.

    I think the evil wizard was trying the achieve lichdom, like voldemort and the spell backfired, and it ejected his evil soul, creating the first dementor. I think your right with dementor breeding, in that they 'kiss' the soul out of a body and corrupt it into a dementor. I think what the wizards found at the island after he died was the soulless bodies of all the victims of dementors, decayed over time but maybe not dead.

  • @MrPsyJak
    @MrPsyJak 6 месяцев назад

    One strong theory is thaø Dementors are a hybrid of a Lethifold (a black cloak-like creature known for eating its victims) and a humanoid creature (possibly an Inferi or a vampire, or possibly even humans). One factor that strengthens this theory is that Lethifolds are also vulnerable to the Patronus Charm.
    Fantastic Beasts & Where to Find Them, Comic Relief 2001
    One issue with your theory, aside from Dementors being already known to the wizarding world, is that an Obscuris begins as a wizard or witch, which a sailor most likely wouldn't have been.

  • @hilossrt4
    @hilossrt4 6 месяцев назад

    I think both theories are correct: the sailors on the island were tortured and one was unintentionally or intentionally turned into the first Dementor. From there the other miserable souls on the island that were also being tortured were slowly attacked by the first Dementor and became Dementors themselves. With the dark wizard eventually falling prey to his own creation as well. I think that only miserable souls turn into dementors when attacked by one explaining why they are not more widespread and threat to the world.

    They were canonically created by Ekrizdis and were a result of his experiments. In the sense that inferi are basically zombified corpses with dark magic flowing through them, dementors are the same, they are the souls of his victims, except they are almost primarily dark magic. These people were stripped of everything good in them and were cast into the world as these floating mindless carcasses that feed on the very thing that was ripped from them.

  • @ericburton3963
    @ericburton3963 6 месяцев назад

    I actually have a theory about how Dementors are created, they have a huge overlap with an obscurus from their shadowy form, association with negative emotions unkillable nature, and even the point that even victims of an obscurus have marks left on their face which may draw a direct connection between them and the dementor’s kiss.
    I wonder if Ekrizdis was experimenting with obscurus, he was alive during the 15th century, which coincides with when witch trials took place, and obscurus were likely prevalent. Perhaps he was even an obscurial himself seeking to prolong his lifespan through dark magic, and realized because the obscurus feeds on dark emotions he might be able to feed it someone else’s so it doesn’t consume his lifespan, the logical conclusion of this being to feed his obscurus the souls of tortured people. Given enough time perhaps intentionally or unintentionally his obscurus became strong enough to survive on its own and develop its own consciousness, becoming the first dementor.

    In my understanding Dementors existed before Ekrizdis! "[...] but the least frightening part of it was that the place was infested with Dementors". So the Term "Dementor" seem to be already existing at this point in history. After all i read and your video i would conclude that maybe the first Dementor was created out of the "Mass Suffering" somewhere in Time? Maybe one of the big wars in the Roman empire, where many many died on a Battlefield, where pain and suffering was all over a place and then some magic got chaotic and created a Dementor? So they seem to breed even without people (because "[...] The fortress was therefore left abandoned for many years, a home to continually breeding Dementors.", so tecnicly dementors seem to not need living humans to breed). so i guess not Ekrizdis created them, but they joined him because they felt the souls on that island and thought "Wow what a nice place to feed" and ekrizdis was not attacked by them because he literaly fed them souls. So in my understanding they are not actualy created in Azkaban but they came there because of all the experiments of Ekrizdis.

    My theory is the Dementors are created from the souls they consume. That when they consume a soul everything that makes that soul unique is destroyed. All memory of whom they were. And that is also why they can’t return as a ghost. And after sometime it appears in albeit physical form of the soul’s despair of having everything especially happiness taken from them. So that is why they look to consume happy memories and endless and fruitless attempt to reclaim what was lost.

The body would decay over time hence their look but they can't actually die because there is not a soul to separate from the body. Also they have the need to feed on the souls of others in an attempt to regain that which was taken from them. There is also a difference between ghosts and Dementors in the fact a ghost is a soul that has lost it's body vs a body that has had its soul taken. Just a thought.

    a variation: it may not be 1:1 for dementor creation,
    it could take multiple damaged souls fusing together to form 1 dementor

    Since he spent his time torturing and tormenting innocent souls i think as the despair of it all got worse and worse, the very essense of the island was saturated with it. And because of this amount of despair the dementors manifsted form from all this. I dont think dementors come from souls. They are to pure i think.

    • @bambi5227

    I actually feel sorry for J.K. nowadays. She keeps spouting hateful crap, but I think she is coming from a place of fear and depression. In a way, she's become a dementor herself.

  • @RIBill
    @RIBill 8 месяцев назад

    The problem is, dementors themselves are soulless. So they couldn't be created from a soul. However, maybe the magic that created them is identical to the kiss. Torture a body an when they are an inch from death, pull out their soul. Maybe dementors can only be created from non-magical beings. Kiss a wizard, soulless life. Kiss a muggle, you get a dementor.

    • @HarryPotterTheory
      @HarryPotterTheory  8 месяцев назад +2

      I guess this just depends on how you perceive the transformative nature of the soul. Good take, though!
