@ben4450 Dominant has two different meanings. In the key of D, A is the fifth, or dominant, which makes A7 the dominant chord in the key of D, like you said. Dominant can also refer to chord quality though. It means you play the root, 3rd, 5th, and b7. D7 is just shorthand for D dominant 7.
Thanks, I was having difficulty following a book, where it showed to use finger 1, 4 and 5. My thumb is at a really awkward position, and cant change quickly.
I am trying to work out how to play all sorts of guitar chords on the piano. eg, Csus2, D4/F# (is that half a bar each of the 2 chords?), Em7. Is it true that playing 7th chords, like Em7, (E minor 7th) the 7th is always flattened, rather than the true 7th note of the scale. (eg C7 is C Major 7th and consists of C E G and Bb). I need to know as I get a lot of free sheet music from chordie.com but it is written for guitars. Also, how can I read guitar tabs? I only play piano. Thanks.

I don't get it. Shouldn't the 7th be C#? As that's the 7th note in the D Major scale? I'm getting confused here :D
