I made this yesterday and would call it a success! The bitterness of the sprouts was so mild, they actually tasted good. Thumbs up for this one!

I've made this so many times since I first saw this video like five years ago. I use pearl onions, though, since they're cheaper and easier to find. Still delicious!

Bravo Chef John. Ate Brussel sprouts when I was a kid. Mom boiled them and we put butter and salt and pepper on them. For some reason most of my friends seem to think you have to disguise the flavor with bacon, balsamic, garlic, or any other over powering substance. You did good Chef John.

My hubby made this on sunday. We skipped the chipolini onions .. however the recipe still held good. It was very tasty and ended with us wanting to eat more of it. Excellent recipe indeed

I love brussels ! cut them as you do, in a bowl, pinch of salt, splash of water, cover and microwave until fork tender. No need to add anything else like bunch of butter! delicious on their own. !

I made this today & it tasted really good! The boiling did not destroy the texture or the taste of the brussels sprouts & onions. I did not use cipollini onions tho because I could not find any of it at the supermarket so I used small red onions instead. I also roasted tomatoes just for the heck of it. That looks delish! I've never made sprouts that didn't come tasting REALLY bitter. I'm gonna try this and if I STILL don't get it, I give up.
Sprouts are my favourite brassica. Must try this recipe. Have to use shallots cos the Italian boyos are unavailable here in rural Wales UK.

i tried brussels sprouts once because my parents never made me eat them but they were horrible but then again it was from the freezer section this has made me tempted to try them again. What freaked me out was that they were sweet but they look so cute i wish i liked them.

This gives a well needed assortment of vitamins and minerals. That you need for a healthy life and this is a way more delicious and richer way to get those vitamins and minerals than a pill or caned green beans. Give the Chef some credit and give yourself some taste. This with a nice meat main coarse and potato side would be outstanding !!
It's to season them, and to par-cook them so that when they roast, you don't risk burning the outside while waiting for the inside to cook.

This one place I worked at, whenever we cleaned Brussels we would take the outer leaves and fry them. Then we would mix them with a bacon vinaigrette. The whole kitchen would snack on that for the rest of the night.

my trick with brussells sprouts was always to cut a cross shape in the root part before I boil them and when they go in the pan, I add a bit of sweetness like honey or brown sugar to help bring down the bitterness.

I just so happen to have purchased some of those little onions and in the aftermath thought, "now what?" I stumbled upon this and I happen to have Brussels's sprouts too! It is on my list of things to cook soon.

I "thought" I hated Brussels sprouts I don't know probably for the past 12-15 years because my first experience was terrible. Maybe it wasn't cooked correctly or season but it smelled and taste bad. Loved it. I added little balsamic vinegar in end after removing from oven. It gave nice tangy sweet taste along with lemon juice. Thank you Chef John for the dish

What a depressing night on you tube.... Everyones crying about everyones videos!! How can you chew on a piece of chicken fat or a beef roast and tell me Brussel sprouts taste bad ?? The onion and salt will take away the taste of pure vitamins and organic healthiness that your soooo not used to and call it a bad taste. Learn to appreciate a simple taste like this before you get any further into cooking food people. A steak a potato and this YUM!

I have put cider vinegar on my Brussels sprouts since I was a kid. These look great, but I would still put vinegar on them. I love that tang with them. I can't see why it wouldn't be good with the onions too.
I put cider vinegar in my coleslaw. Brussels sprouts are just baby cabbages. Genius. Now you just made me hungry at bedtime. I'm stealing your idea.
You need to get some of the sounds of the food cooking into these videos, sizzle and bubble in butter are from the trumpets of angels.
