Communist trees are usually pretty shitty. They all have the same layout: 1) Go Communist (either peacefully or by civil fun) 2) Join Comintern or have your own faction. And that's kinda it. You can have some kind of conquering but not that much.
Aside of Bulgaria and Yugoslavia, I guess you can have fun with Czechoslovakia (manpower to defend against Germans) and Baltics (nice for cooperative multiplayer) but that's basically it
The path of Communist Japan's "Fate of the Imperial Family" doesn't really makes sense since the player only receives -10% Stability and that's literally it. If it was much more accurate, you would lose -100% Stability because you are literally killing Japan (The Emperor).
I mean 10% isn’t enough to show the effects that would have but less ridiculous rapid social changes than the emperor’s divinity being questioned have been the norm in hoi4 focus trees for a while
The American communist tree is a little interesting just because you can annex the entire Soviet Union if they are about to lose the war with an enemy so thats cool but yeah. Most the alt history paths for old DLC's are pretty outdated for sure. They need more role play and extra bonuses that change the gameplay for them to give you a reason to even go down those paths.

FDR wasn't a communist sympathizer and Landon (or ANY Republican in HOI4's timeframe) wasn't a neoconfederate. A communist revolution should be because you elected a market liberal sort of guy in 1936 and started rolling back the new deal (which while you can debate the effectiveness definately did keep enough Americans above water to stop them from radicalizing IRL), while the Neo-Confederates would probably rise up in response to the New Deal going harder (i.e. FDR/someone else trying to force the Dixiecrats to allow it to expand to cover black americans too or a Republican like Wilkie expanding it)
The Thing about Bela Kun. He was Purged in the Soviet Union in the Late 1930s, so you were right on the money. That is why he "Magically Disappeared" from the focus tree. Sorry, nerd mode was here.
1:50 - You basically have to speedrun going Communist (IE tanking your Stability) to get Bela Kun and it's totally pointless because he has no unique traits or content. It's like getting the unique fascist leader in Brazil, only worse.

It's not a broken option to get Béla-kun, but it's near impossible in historical AI-on. Kun Béla was purged by Stalin in 1938. If the soviets start the purge, you will just lose the option to get him. It's not broken, it's just shit.

Also something unique about Communist States of America is that they have elections, and maintain many of the American institutions like the Senate. Therefore, MacArthur probably would think 'eh, good enough, this isn't my ideal America, but it's American enough, and as long as there are enemies to fight idgaf.'
Thr british communist path is actually pretty nice. Ye you lose the empire. But you get infinite MP and à very strong early industry for it. You can just steamroll germany or the US in 39. Also it is important to accept to lose India as it allows you to bypass 140 of bad focused

As someone who played communist Hungary: I was playing multiplayer, and tried to go for historical, but Germany clearly didn't know what he was doing. It was during the time you had to renew MEFO bills manually, and he forgot to do so. He was also very heavily went for civs while MEFO was active, and went for mils once it lapsed, so not even prepping for an early war, or he would have went for it sooner. The Romanian player and I just silently left the axis chat on discord, and we both went to papa Stalin for help in order to see what we can do for him. Yugo did the same. Italy very heavily encircled Belgrade and Yugo was fighting for their life when I managed to flip and join up, and Romania was still only around 40% commie, so I just went for it. I very quickly liberated Vojvodina for Yugo in order to keep his divisions and equipment in the fight, and with the rest of my meager army I managed to encircle the Italian army, as neither Italy, nor Germany paid attention to losing me and Romania. Of course once they noticed what is happening they went on a full assault against me, but by the time I was about to fall, Romania managed to flip to communist and their army, together with the soviet saved our bacon. The Italian army without equipment was quickly eaten by the Russians, despite having 0 org because of the purge. We then managed to barely hold the line while the Russians mitigated the purge, and once it was done, we just steamrolled Europe before the USA could join the Allies. It was the most fun game I had in HOI4.
I think with how peace deals work now, it might be beneficial to actually allow the civil war to fire. IIRC puppets join the enemy side in a civil war, so if you win and get a peace deal, you can just annex not only the rival faction, but all the puppets as well. This way, you can do the Imperial confederation more quickly and more easily (having the puppets annexed enables you to skip most of the required focuses). I might be wrong about this, but I do know that you can still do the Reinforce the Empire branch as commie Britain just so long as you do the first focus before flipping. Also, when going commie Japan, releasing Korea is not a bad strategy because Manchukuo won't be able to annex it if it exists as a country and you could quickly rush to conquer Korea to use it as a more advantageous staging ground so that you don't have to deal with Manchukuo's navy. These paths are still terrible, though. Shouldn't have to play in these kinds of wonky ways just to enjoy the paths. They should just be innately fun.
