As a portuguese I can confirm that going on a tour on civil wars and taking terretories is a real portuguese pass-time (trust me, most original comment)
I believe that Romania under Carol II would deserve an honorable mention as it can subjugate all the Balkans and, if it plays it's cards right, can conquer the Soviet Union with German help and get a funny event once it owns Stalingrad and Leningrad.
I've actually found as the Netherlands its better to just hold the front and never let the Germans take any of your territory, which is surprisingly easy if you get an intel network, get at least level 5 forts across your front (and aa if possible to prevent strat bombing), and if you've been training enough soldiers from Indonesia. I actually don't even do the war on pacifism usually, since you lose that effect when war breaks out, and it really kind of just wastes time and resources to go through it which can be better spent on industry. With all the core defense you get from the monarchist path, it really isn't too hard to hold the line. The best part though is that if they can't get through you, they only have a small gap they can attack Belgium through, which usually has an insane number of Belgian and French soldiers guarding it, so provided they don't lose to Italy, I actually usually see France survive in my Netherlands games. Though that does prevent you from getting Belgium and Luxembourg for yourself.

Really the only kinda mid ones are Greece and Turkey, Greece since you have the civil war at the start, and can't do your unique stuff without going non historical, and the Ottomans since going down their path is too long, and they miss out on the whole foreign policy and interaction trees at the bottom
I have monarchist syndrome. whenever national focuses allows me to go monarch, I go. I think monarchism should be separate ideology, however their war goals focuses are cool to make monarch ideology with lower world tension limit
Portugal wrong order of operations. The Portugese branch of the monarchism thing gives a ticking debuff - the order of operations is to do the brazilian (left) part of the focustree first, overtrhwo the old brazilian gouvernment, and while that civil war is going on, you take your two portugese focuses and the third re-unification bonus in quick succession to minimize the impact of the ticking debuff.
How big are your divisions? I noticed once when I was using 40 width infantry to hold The Netherlands that there was only 1 division in the battle because of combat width decrease from river attacks. So when this one division finally retreated the tile was lost even though there were multiple full org divisions in reserve. a full army of 20 widths with shovels and AA should hold the line pretty reliably.
PLS MOUNTAİN GENERAL MAKE A VİD ABOUT THİS if you form plc as lithuania you can get -20 (stability buff not included) consumer goods -that one hitler dictator trait for your leader and on top of that 10 percent recruitable pop factor and some war support and doctrine cost lowering buff (-10) -coring poland and all of baltics and in future most industrialized parts of ussr -very good pp gain modifier if doing monarchist focus of "ennobled seimas" (its in early part of the tree) -doing the focus "royal reforms" gets you good modifiers and also to do such focus you need to do couple extra (mostly giving stability war support going to war stability and war support reduction reducement -permanent communism and fascism lowering modifier
