In The Equalizer, Denzel Washington plays McCall, a man who believes he has put his mysterious past behind him and dedicated himself to beginning a new, quiet life. But when McCall meets Teri (Chloë Grace Moretz), a young girl under the control of ultra-violent Russian gangsters, he can’t stand idly by - he has to help her. Armed with hidden skills that allow him to serve vengeance against anyone who would brutalize the helpless, McCall comes out of his self-imposed retirement and finds his desire for justice reawakened. If someone has a problem, if the odds are stacked against them, if they have nowhere else to turn, McCall will help. He is The Equalizer.

"yours (life) is going to end on this funky floor"
Coldest. Line. Ever.
I think it is pretty good. I think this is pretty damn awesome myself; "Choose the right words to plead for your life and I'll let you have your soul back after breaking your body. Now beg for your life."
classic line
Over 9800 dollars, that would be a decent amount to most ppl. Just like the girl's life would mean something to most ppl and to let her go would be like nothing to him, he has plenty more and many other ways to make money, but he doesn't out of either ego or greed.
You should have taken the money is the cold line. $9,800 for your life
Over $9,800 Dollars.
Anyone else notice how Rob almost bodied everyone in 28 seconds and when he counted from 26 by the time he got to 28 the boss had faded out and couldn’t hear anything? It’s the little details like this that also makes this a great movie 🔥
I never get tired of this clip. The main villain is fantastic at being a complete scumbag. An incredible actor.
For sure!
Me either great scene
David Meunier. He also played Johnny Crowder in Justified and was excellent in that as well.
The main villain is that other guy Teddy. This guy is a secondary villain.
@@daveballjoint5285 Yes. He plays the role very convincingly.
The first is by far the best. One of my favorite action films.
The third is excellent also.
yes i agree
@@YTW-rw6pr I saw video clips from it and was turned off completely. I thought the scenes were gratuitous violence to excess and the McCall character had started to seem downright sadistic. I thought it was disgusting and had no interest in seeing the full movie. This first film was excellent, the second was a big step down, and the third seems like exploitation of the Equalizer premise.
@@YTW-rw6prtbh the second one is fire too. The third one is good but in my opinion it’s too short compared to the others and it needed to flesh out his relationship with the Italian town a little bit more but overall it was great. Probably my least favorite of the three tho. This scene is the best out of the whole series in my opinion.
I think the first equalizer is the best one. 2 and three are great.
The first Equalizer is about him doing it because its the right thing to do, the second one is out of pure revenge and the third is about him fighting for something he has found and doesn't want to lose
Agreed.
Denzel's character is such a good guy cause he only kills and hurts morally terrible people, but he's kind of insane.
That thing with the watch and watching people slowly die, and then you cut to him high-fiving a school girl passing by with a smile.
I don't know about insane really, the watch part was clearly part of his training and as for watching the Russian mob leader guy die, what was he supposed to do? Give him first aid or just walk out and leave him to die and was that somehow "better"? As for the part with the girl would you rather he shot her or just did something like morose and dark like brooding instead?
@@Slayer398I understand his point. Throughout the entire trilogy there is this juxtaposition concerning McCall. Two opposing truths coexisting - the enjoyment he derives from it all (clearly seen in the third, and stated in the second), and yet this super kind and altruistic attitude towards others who are evilly treated and oppressed.
@@mightymanofvalour8691 I can definitely agree McCall has serious issues, as we can see more than a few OC behaviours in the first 2 movies and a really questionable sense of morality when it comes to those he has been sent to or (apparently decided) to kill. As to his "enjoyment to killing" I will have to take your word on it as I have not seen the 3rd (was there a 3rd movie, when did it come out?).
If anything it seems like his morality is like a switch in the first 2 movies when he's killing and his actual personality is the kind and altruistic one that was sublimated once he becomes the killer he was turned into by the government. But that's just how i read the character. Your mileage may vary.
@@Slayer398 I hear that.
Yeah, the third film came out last month. A good watch. It needed maybe 20 minutes more to bridge two parts for me personally, but how that might of spoilt the rhythm of the film, I get it. It had the feels of the first film. Darker tone for sure.
@@mightymanofvalour8691be like a lion yet like a lamb. Switch on what's necessary when the occasion rises.
The directing and photography here make this scene so effective. No too-quick cuts, no confusion. Just well-choreographed portrayal of a punishing payback.
I’ve seen this clip a thousand times and didn’t notice until now that Robert is literally fighting with himself over the door. One hand opens it; the other closes it, two or three times.
Good catch.
He was contemplating whether he wanted to go that route again. He promised his wife who passed away that he would never go down that road again! That’s why after he kills them he looks sad and says I’m sorry (to his wife)
I OFTEN wondered what was going on with the door, I thought he just momentarily distracting the crooks lol
That's OCD. he's not fighting himself. It's the same he twiddles his fingers and spins his ring. It's something people with that condition tend to do. If you doubt just look up OCD and the equalizer.
I thought he just wanted to check for how sound proofing that door was
I always want to know what he says to the last guy he kills with the corkscrews. I hear it as "bon voyage" in Russian. Whatever he says, this entire scene is a masterpiece in modern filmmaking. It's not really about the violence. It's one of the most perfectly written, most beautifully filmed and acted scenes in modern cinema. And Denzel is obviously the focal point here, but every one of these actors delivered a perfect performance.
When I watched it on Netflix, the translation said "Understand?" This is a reply to what long hair said to him when Slavi slapped Alina in front of Robert.
Yeah it means “Understand?”
@@iwishiwasachimp that makes it even more awesome!
@@davidtatro7457The word he is saying is "ponyal". It means "understand/understood" in russian
I enjoy this part because it's a callback to earlier in the movie when that same Russian gangster mocked Robert saying the same thing, assuming he didn't understand Russian. Robert repeating it back to him in the moment of death is poetic, especially how the gangster gets wide-eyed realizing that Robert knew all along.
The minute he said come back I'll let you have her for free, he killed everyone in that room... the man is an artist, he paints with blood.
One of *the* best action scenes that I've seen--and I'm 65. This is my favorite film in the trilogy. It has lots of heart.
When he started facing those skeleton heads to them you KNEW it was about to go down!

I have seen only one man in my life be so calm in the execution of a fight. This man was what nobody expected his size his body weight. We all thought that the guy was going to get his ass kicked. But what happened next surprised about 20 of us watching. The skill and sheer calmness of this guy was so on point it literally scares the shit out of me to this day.
3 dudes at a club walked into this guy as he was walking out with his lady. I assume it was his lady, one guy grabs the guy by the arm. The little guy just stares at his hand on his arm. He went normal to Tasmanian devil in seconds. I will never forget the look on those dudes faces as he literally wipes the floor with all 3 of them. The bouncer at the door when he looked at who was fighting stood frozen in his own skin as if he saw a Fkn ghost. Me and my friends till this day still talk about him. The way he moved as if he knew every move they were about to make.
Never forget this man’s face as he smiled at me and just walked away like nothing ever happened. Shaved head mustache beard about 5/10 little Mexican dude a bit overweight for his size. I couldn’t believe it, I thought in that one instance never judge a book by its cover. Weeks later I was begging to ask that bouncer who he was when he saw him. He didn’t want to talk at first but handed him $200 cash. I had to know, he went to school with this guy in high school and he said he was bullied in high school and took all the beatings without shedding a tear. He said I saw him in the halls of Coronado high school in San Diego. He said you ok!? To James was his name the one that got bullied. He said I will get older and bigger and beat the living shit out of the bullies that once was in school. He served in the military with him also and was absolutely fearless. Like nothing mattered anymore, like he was dead inside.
After he served with him in the military, he and a few buddies were told a story about him. What he told me next terrified the living shit out of me. This is the guy nobody would ever fk with ever again. What ever your worst fear would ever be he would make sure that fear was him instead. I don’t want to repeat what he told me.
So damn good. Denzel is just amazing. He can do anything. I love this movie.
I dunno why, but I love the way he drops the corkscrews at the end. Like "DONE".
Mike drop.. He does it with many of his characters.. I recall in Book of Eli as well under the bridge scene..
The double stab with the knive is just cold.
It's like ballet LOL
he's using Kali, very technical dangerous art
Cold?
Wonderful lateral moves
The problem here is you don't know how dangerous the guy is until its too late
I love the way the bad guys in front of McCall always underestimate the killing machine and regret it deeply a few minutes later. When they're still alive;
I kinda don't like it ngl. Like it's a cool twist but it's always more satisfying to me when the protagonist is clearly revered for his abilities
May be because of my autism.
Always YES YES, I can't say enough about Denzel Washington thank you for this viewing I really appreciate it 🙏
I love that at the end, when he says "I'm sorry", he isn't talking to the mobsters he just killed; he's talking to his dead wife.
There's a saying in Korea, to catch a tiger, one must go in a tiger den. Often time people think your crazy to do something like that but for a tiger hunter, it's just another day on the job.

In seconds 6.11, he directed each of them to those three dimensional skulls to send a message that they were on the brink of death. They did not understand it, but in seconds 6.38, the position of the skulls changed and they returned to how they were before.
I love that the head Russian gangster in this scene is a Kentucky born gangster in justified tv show
The secret to making a great movie. First, cast Denzel in the lead. Second, make the movie.
Can't believe this is 10 years ago.
It’s such an amazing scene in the movie.
They have guns and knifes ..but Denzel has super skill with experience.... and that matters always
They have guns and knives: Theirs.
Robert McCall also have guns and knives: also theirs.
The look on Denzels' characters face when he thinks he's really going to let her go for the money compared to his face when he opens and shuts the door over and over tells you everything about McCall's character before the movie even really starts going
Denzel is one hell of an actor. I loved him in Crimson Tide and Man on Fire plus Training Day. But he takes the cake here.
He's a wonderful yoyng man
...back in the 1990s he always played the lawyer
These r the meanest, most evil looking bad guys I've ever seen.
One of the most badass scenes in movie history
Excellant scene that features one of the most depraved, cruel, evil and dispicable villains I have ever seen in cinema.
I can only conclude that he is a relative of Putin’s.
Denzel is sublime. A perfect actor. As is the russian villan…
One of the best scenes in the movie.
I hope Denzel makes many more Equalizer movies. They are the best out there. Better than Bourn, Bond, etc.
When he opens and closes the door three times, it's like he's saying "I can't do this. I have to do this. I can't do this. I have to do this."
7:29 that guy brought a gun but he forgot that he doesn't need to be close to his opponent to use it like a knife lol
Denzel knew he was going to get up.
5:04 ... he knew he wasnt going to accept the offer that easy and expected him to have stipulations more than the 9800. The Russian lets go of the handshake first pushing his hand aside. McCall almost smirks and knows what he has to do when he is done talking.
Gee, I hope there is an E4. They are very entertaining movies, and it's fun to see the bad guys get their's.
Denzel just confirmed 4 and 5!!!
Just superb.
You should’ve taken the money
DW is badass. Love all his roles, but the Equalizer is da bomb
the moment he locks himself in the room
It's a movie 🎥
No one escapes HIS ROOM
Never gets old.
How many movies is Denzel in utterly destroying his opponents? The book of Eli is my favorite.
Brilliant clip 👍
Whats scarier, a room full of armed Russian mobsters or the unarmed man that walked in there calm AMAZING!!!!
I love that scene.
One of my favourite scenes ever in movies.. So well done
A man who is not afraid to die can accomplish anything.
Used to love the tv series with edward woodward in the 80's. But Denzel absolutely kills it. He is the equalizer.
The corkscrew up through the flesh behind the chin is just "medieval". And you know when they (their characters) woke up that morning they thought they were some of the most bad asses around. Unfortunately they FAFO.
I said it before, I'll say it again - everyone's a "tough guy", until they encounter someone tougher than them....
I like how the video title isn’t “Rob McCall takes on a Russian gang” it’s just “Denzel” lmao
When he closed the door back and locked it I would have ran or hide somewhere. Clearly it showed this man is a killer and not afraid of any of us that was in that room with guns and he didn’t have any lol
the knife defense after the shot glass to the face was badass. Do you see him bouncing?
Where?
People who go into the tiger's lair do so knowing the unpleasant outcome.
Denzel acting is a bad bad mamajama he is so cold my goodness you don't know what he's going to do next but you better watch out watch your back because it'sshowing you what he can do by enacting and he wants to be good actress acting so people will be able to watch his movies over and over and over again I really like these movies that he has made it was great great movies
This scene never gets old
You should have taken the money. .....
One of the best scenes put to film. This scene truly encapsulates how bad-ass McCall was as a government spook. And ending it with "I'm sorry" (to his late wife)...the icing on the cake.
Later in the movie when he sits down with Teddy in the restaurant for the "brick by brick" scene...you could cut the tension with a knife.
Shame the 2nd installment SUCKED. Haven't seen the 3rd; heard it was a very SLOW burn, aside from the occasional action sequences.
The second film was AWESOME!
Third one is very enjoyable! A great Third in a trilogy!
The first was the best, the second was a up and down, it had its moments but it wasnt that good. The third was great, more like the first, but slower.
man idk about that....the seocnd one was very enjoyable.....and the third one even if people think is slow....it was always incredibly well made and brought the story to an amazing stop....overall thw trilogy is beautiful
Encapsulates means
I think it would have been interesting if he had said, "manners, maketh, man."
Robert mcall is the only honest man in the movie
This is one of the best movie scenes. Ever.
The guy at the back,on the seat just inside the door is the only one who seems to suspect something is badly off about mc’call.
He acts nervously.
Er ist so genial und phänomenal der Film 😊❤❤❤❤❤ mir gefällt er sehr gut gratulation 😊❤❤
He is regretting for use 3 more seconds than his calculation. Man finishes in seconds.
This is the baddest clip ever.
That thing with the watch is consistent with someone who is obsessed with precision. Rob is obsessive compulsive but this is the reason he’s so neat, so precise, and so efficient in everything he does. When he kills the bad men he stares into their eyes to make sure they’re dead and to see the exact moment they die - there’s that need again for precision, for being exact in everything he does.
Love this movie & this scene just tops it off.. Funky floor,
Instead of counting, Denzel should have told the boss, “since you won’t be needing it, I’m gonna give your car to Elaina!” Chump…..
...Wonderful!! Don't waffle around so long, make up ypur mind!!!....
And at the end the when McCall looks at his watch and gestures with his head "huh" my timing could have been better while Russian dude lies on the funky floor suffocating on his own vomit #epic
The BEST scene in the ONLY good Equalizer movie!!!

The coldest thing about this whole scene is how he estimates 16 seconds before he starts, ends up at 28 seconds, nods "not bad but I could have done better" and then looks around counting trying to find where he lost time lmao
I think those 9 seconds he subtracts were for his last kill. He was toying with the last one, where he could have just finished him off immediately.
Who would win Equalizer or Jonh Wick
McCall likely. Wicks main fighting skill is his determination, whatever happens he gets back up. McCall doesn't need to get back up because he's not down. He is always prepared. If Iosef met McCall at the gas station McCall would predict Iosef would be back for the car and be ready. John Wick's power is he has a lot of friends. He gets saved a lot. McCall has extensive knowledge about people mind and body which would give him the edge. John Wick only wins if he go pew pew from far away.
mcall got shot in the back by some little kid in equalizer 3 and would have died if it were not for some doctor, and you think he can see Baba Yaga coming when John is alert and ready for him? hand to hand wick would kill him easy, @@PrincessTrunksBriefs
@@PrincessTrunksBriefsWick took on 2 assassins at once in hand to hand combat. Not saying Mcall wouldn't be a tough competitor, but hes been vulnerable. Getting shot by the kid in the last film.
@@davefarlow That's because McCall is old and has a heart. He won't kill women or children. He could have easily killed the boy when he got out of the house in the last movie, but didn't for a reason. To honor his late wife.
Think of it like this. John Wick is The Punisher. Robert McCall is Batman; the old one who killed Superman. McCall with a few seconds of prep time will trounce Wick.
Wick has determination and McCall has experience. Both have shown they are knowledgeable and deadly, but McCall is ruthlessly efficient, making the least number of moves to accomplish checkmate. Wick wastes a lot of energy making extraneous movements.
Wick's best chance is to snipe McCall from a distance. McCall just needs to observe Wick to determine the best sequence of moves to kill him. So a face to face confrontation is the most dangerous situation for John Wick to be in against McCall. But, McCall is also an expert sniper so it works both ways.
@@ravendon Well you are forgetting one thing. The writers. Whoever writes the script would decide who wins, and Denzel ( Robert mcall) and Keanu ( John Wick) both have huge fanbases so if a crossover movie came to be it wouldn't be one sided. I'd say they are both equal. It just depends on what the script is.
