I'm pretty sure he though Al was just there to arrest him, being "the grieving Lawyer" he probably assumed he was there still serving the kaw in some capacity. So he takes the opportunity to try and act cocky and humiliate Al as he believes him to be bound by some sort of authority. But it's after Al tells Falcon his reasons for being there ARE personal, that Falcon says, "not in front of my boys" as if to say he only then realized his life was in Jeopardy. Then of course Al does the unthinkable and Falcon is faced with a reality his narcissism convinced him was only reserved for his enemies. It's the fact he's totally blindsided, that I think adds to the perfection of Al's vengeance. He let's Falcon bolster himself and act like a fool knowing full well what he was going to do. Amazing directing.

I don’t think so, at least not entirely.
He may have felt guilt and pain from going through that again. He knows the family is innocent like his was. I’d imagine (as if I really could) that it’s a mix of that guilt that he’s pushing past, and a deep need for justice understandably corrupted by selfish revenge that prioritizes wanting to share his misery with another who deserves it over the lives of more innocent people.
Ideally the family would be informed in detail of all the evil deeds their father did, and then somehow have a fair trial to be properly convicted and swiftly sentenced to an execution with his family in attendance to see justice in action. Obviously wasn’t going to happen, but at least tell the kids and wife right there before taking the father away to be dealt with and leave them to grieve with the remainder of their lives.

Benicio del Toro is a powerful actor - just nuances and light twitches from his face are enough to send chills.
He didn't flinch when he shot the family in cold blood.
Julio Cesar Cedillo's acting once his family were shot point blank is just so full of angst and unimaginable pain.
    Amazing acting.
This scene alone gives me chills and the feel of the pain of loss of deeply loved ones in a split second. It depicts
the fragility of human life and how cause and consequence deeply affect our emotions to the point revenge in a
tit-for-tat blurs lines of what's "right" when everything is so wrong.
If someone chopped off my wife's head and threw my daughter into a tub of acid, there is no more right or wrong
in retaliation; it just is. No justifications can right the killing of the innocent in retaliation and yet the world is full of
greys because of consequences from cause. It's not enough that a murderer be sent to jail to live out his life behind
bars for any gruesome crime he committed in atrocity. That's too easy.
If we spend our life hurting and killing others, it will come back full circle, one way or the other. No one ever gets off scott-free.

This scene is something special. It puts the viewer in a position to contemplate whether killing the other family members was totally unnecessary and results in a feeling of horror, or rather completely justified and results in a feeling of satisfaction. Or, most likely, a combination of multiple emotions. It challanges you to grapple with the concepts of revenge and morality, and ultimately, attempt to define "justice" by your own standards.

Someone pointed out in another version of this video that, if you follow where his gun points, you can tell the order he killed them in, and why. The mother died first, so she wouldn't have to see what happened to her children. The younger boy died next, before he could realise what was happening, and the eldest was last.

    • @seeharvester
      @seeharvester 7 месяцев назад +31

No, it was in that order because it was an economy of motion.
Less movement between shots, and swinging from right to left.
A natural direction for a right-handed shooter considering recoil management, etc.
If he had wanted to inflict major emotional damage, he would have shot the children first, then hesitated, then shot the mother so she could also feel his pain. In a way, he spared her.

Fausto looked at him with a face that said “you won’t do anything.” And as soon as Alejandro mentioned his daughter, Fausto’s wife was the only one who understood their family was going to be killed. It was only after Alejandro went through with it that Fausto felt that shock. It was as if all that power had gone to his head up until that moment when he realized he was touchable.

I also think the wife's reaction was because it's moments like this where she's confronted with what her "beloved" does every day. Ordering children and wives to be slaughtered and disposed in acid. The illusion of a man she can love disappears and she's forced to face what life she chose.
Then yea, she probably adds 2 and 2 together and realises there ain't no getting out of this one.

In both movies, the protagonist breaks into the antagonist's home. Benecio del toro would make a great Tony Montana if they did a remake.

The look on Fausto’s face is real pain and terror. Great acting from Julio Cesar Cedillo!

It’s a violent life in and around cartels. When you have people that don’t value life and people always seeking revenge its crazy. He becomes as bad as the man he killed.
