Music videos for sure, ad films and for certain situations, where it supports the story telling ☺️ 1/8 I would use all the time, cause I like the slighty softer image.
I think I’d use 1/4. Doesn’t look overdone but you can actually notice it. I could barely notice the 1/8. If I needed less than 1/4, I think I’d just add some softening in post.
Amazing! Been considering getting the Tilta Mirage, but unsure whether to get the mist filters or not, but seeing this I've encountered a new dilemma and hoping someone here can help answer it, what's the difference between the black mist filter and pure mist filter from Vaxis? 🤔
I prefer a 1/8th mist filter for stylized work. It adds a really nice texture and roll-off without being too noticeable. I'm using the PolarPro mist filter that's around 1/6 and sometimes I find it slightly too powerful
Thank you for these tests! I'm looking into investing in the Tilta Mirage Mattebox and was looking for pro mist options, this video definitely answered my questions, thank you!
Love the videos, very informative and sensible. That being said, I can see that you definitely want to move into narrative filmmaking in the near feature. When do you think you'll make that jump? Wether it's a a short or feature. All things are possible, with passion and purpose.
Hey, man. Good video. Thank you. Does the Tilta Mirage support a circular 95mm mist and a circular 95mm polarizer and the vnd wireless at the same time? Or I have to put rectangular filters on the front when I'm using not less than 3 filters?
@@damiencooper the point is that, for example, I share your view of using a default pure mist 1\8 in every single take, also the vnd and often the polarizer too. They're three filters, and think if I need the fourth.
@@damiencooper Yes, I know , but there is a small adaptor, the same as the VDN and you can apparently put it together with the VND to have 2 filters 90mm, but with out the motor to use the motorized VND. Not my experiment, but saw another RUclips who shows it working fine... Thank you
nice video. mistfilters are a bit overrated imho. often it just washes away beautiful details without adding much value. I use them very rarely and if then only for the shortest time needed and on 10-20% mist, otherwise the loss of detail is too much for my taste. keep them videos coming, I watch every single one. greetings from berlin
On what projects would you go for the 1/2?

It seems like it would be best to get multiple circular filter trays and keep them attached all the time. No prints that way
Blank insert trays are $40. So yeah, I'd get them for each piece of glass.
Vielen vielen Dank für dein Video!
Hab nach genau sowas gesucht und bezahlbar ist das ja allemal ☺️
Gloomy or bloomy!?

Agreed. Everything above 1/8 has to serve a very specific purpose

Does documentary count as narrative? 😅
Hi, is it possible to connect the Tilta mirage over an pro Mist Filter that I have on the optic?
technically yes.
2:32 Me when I show the girl I bring home my lens collection
Haha, find yourself a girl that appreciates that collection 😉
Hahaha. I noticed that too. Damien so happy with the lens holder; model utterly unmoved. So funny 😅
funny
Sehr gutes Video! Kann man den VND mit einem Mist oder anderem Folger gleichzeitig nutzen?
What is the difference between the pure mist and the black mist filters? Vaxis makes both. I'm looking to get one but not sure what the difference is
Pure mist affects the entire image more where as black mist leaves the darker areas alone and only affects the highlights
sorry if i missed it. do you talk about which lens that is? looks like the mitakon 50?
It’s a rehoused 18-35 sigma lens. Review is on my channel (recently uploaded)
Great review!! I was wondering how do you mix the 95mm filter with the VND on the tilta mirage?
You don’t. You can use the VND with rectangular ones though

It does not. You’d have to get the two filter add on but it vignettes on wide Angle lenses
@@damiencooper, so, what's the solution? Do I buy another matte box?
@@fabiobus7671 that't a good question.. running three filters on a wide angle lens will mostly always be tricky
@@damiencooper the point is that, for example, I share your view of using a default pure mist 1\8 in every single take, also the vnd and often the polarizer too. They're three filters, and think if I need the fourth.
@@fabiobus7671 I usually use internal NDs and a mist filter. You can use a screw on mist and the mattebox
Can you use the VND and the Mist filters at the same time? Trying to find out before I purchase... Thank you!
These, no. Both are 95mm circular. You can use the VND+ Square Mist Filters
@@damiencooper apparently you can get 2 90mm holders and attach them at the same time I saw in another video? After I posted here
@@ekphotography yes. But the VND has its own case and won’t fit in there afaik

We got lucky. Ours ended 2 days prior to the premiere

Depends. Too strong, I agree. I love the subtle 1/8 though. But I agree. I don’t use it for everything !
And thanks for the support!
@@damiencooper sure ;)

Longer lenses need smaller mist filter -I think !
I’ve read that too but couldn’t really confirm that from my own tests
