you can also add 2 filter in one tray , the tray have a clamp each side, you don't need that extension, I use like that and works perfect
Hey Ray, Great video. I am planning to get the Tilta Mirage and you have answered many questions that I had. Your videos are really helpful. It's too bad that we couldn't hook up during my trip down in FL from Montreal. Hopefully next time. Keep these videos coming!
Douglas!!! Great to hear from you again. I really wanted to make it down there while you were in Tampa. I deeply appreciate your email too. The footage in this video is from when I was down in Tampa the week before you came! I was actually at Disney over the weekend. Thanks again and we'll talk more in the future! Hopefully in person next time!
Nice video … thanks Ray
Yees, really nice review!!
Nice job on the filters!
Niiiiice review, thanks Ray😊
Thanks for designing such fun and creative filters! I use them on shoots every week.
@@RayValencia Welcome share more contents with @vaxis_vfx(INS and RUclips is the same name), we would like to repost them very much, thanks😁
The best videos!!!
My dude!!! We gotta start making some videos together. Maybe a Disney day or something very soon.
@@RayValencia yes sir !!! And we gotta get you to film one of my fighters
Great review, thank you! I wish Vaxis would make some diopters for the Mirage system. My only route now is taking diopter glass out of 95mm screw mount filters to use in the Mirage filter tray.
BTW, with super wide lenses, using the filter clamp only to get the filter very close to the front element can work well. I get zero vignette with a 14mm if I’m careful.
Great content. I watched your both videos. Very well done. I have Sony A1 camera which I recently bought. I shoot stills(landscape/portrait/birds) and videos(short films). Which is ideal for me, Mirage or smallrig VND 3645 matte box. I prefer to use VND filters or I don't know whether to go for Vaxis filters. I work on native prime 20mm lens to Zoom lenses up to 400mm.
Nice video man, have you got a chance to try rainbow streak filter, I can't find any samples of if :(
Sadly no, I don't have that one. It looks like the anamorphic filters, but with multiple colored streaks instead of all one uniform color.
Thanks for this review. I am quite happy with the Mirage matte box. As you point out, the Vaxis filters are light, and best of all, very affordable. I use the 1/8 and 1/4 Black Mist, and will consider some of the other filters. I'd like to see a comparison of the white mist and black mist filters.
The one major drawback to the system is the vignetting issue with wide lenses when adding the stackable filter option. It's a shame that Tilta didn't think this part through better in the design phase, but I bet the stackable option came after they designed the matte box. They could have easily resolved this by allowing you to use a screw-on filter with the basic Mirage matte box, but the slide in 95mm filters are too close to the lens mounting ring. So close, and yet so far....bummer, Tilta.
Q: The streak filters have a strong "bend" to them at the outer edges of the lens. I presume this is exaggerated by wider angle focal lengths. I wish Vaxis made a more subtle streak filter, as the current streak filters are a bit too much (for my taste).
I completely agree Dave. I love this matte box for gimbal work, but I often want to shoot super wide, use a Variable ND, and a mist filter too...which like you said, you get vignetting (or you can't fit a tray where the Screw-on VND would go)....So sometimes I'll use an 82mm Screw-on Tiffen Black Pro Mist filter, then screw the Mirage filter ring onto that. Or I'll use a rectangular fixed ND filter. There are work arounds, but the more parts you add on, the less "lightweight" it is, haha.
Yes, I had another section in this video talking more about the Pure Mist filters, but I don't have those in hand, and the video was getting kinda long, so I cut it out. I'm not as much of a fan of Pro Mist, which im assuming is like Pure Mist. It softens and blooms everything. Not just the highlights. If I ever get some, I'll post a video for you. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
@@RayValencia As Tilta is frequently pushing out new gear, it wouldn't surprise me if they came out with a second version of this matte box to address with vignetting issue. SmallRig modified their similar matte box product to accommodate screw on filters, so maybe Tilta will follow suit. Regardless, the Mirage is a great piece of kit.
BTW, I enjoy your channel content. Keep up the good work.
from what focal lengths is this issue? i mean under 20mm for example?
Happy Holidays! Not sure if you celebrate Christmas but for the holidays I just received the matte box and a few of the Vaxis filters. I'm curious as to which filter pouch you use to transport all your filters. The one shown around 00:53 mark of the video. Thanks!
Hi Crystal. Merry Christmas! I had a great one with family and friends. Thank you!! Great mattebox and filters! Congrats on the kit. The filter pouch came with my Tilta Mirage Matte Box. I got the VND Kit where it comes included. I think you can get the pouch directly from TILTA.
Which IRND combination do you prefer? 1246 or 2346?
Wooot first
Winning!!!
This may be an obvious question/answer, but do the filters include the plastic enclosure that houses them and goes into the actual matte box? Or do they arrive in filter/glass form only?
Vaxis only makes the glass filters for this system, and they just arrive in leather pouches. The matte box components are made by Tilta and it comes with 1 single filter tray. The trays are made of metal, and you can add on the one that I did that holds 2 filters.
@@RayValencia Thank you!
great video! thanks
But.. did you just say 2 filters are way too much for this matte box if you don't want vignietting and then you just moved on? what?:) that just ruined it.. I always use an ND and a black promis or something else /cpl.. so 2 filters should be the standard.. what a shame.. how is this matte box even a choice for the people if they can't use 2 filters.. crazy.. if you found a solution meanwhile.. please share it
Bogdan, I didn't just move on, I’ve already covered this Vignetting topic in detail. I was actually the first person to expose the Vignetting issues with the filter stacking, and adding on more filter trays. So you have to watch my in-depth video about the Tilta Mirage Matte Box to get the full picture. THIS video is about the Vaxis VFX filters, which don't have any vignetting issues. It's a Tilta Mirage problem, not a Vaxis issue. Here's my Tilta Mirage video: ruclips.net/video/E-H2uGuXrVA/видео.html
Any vignetting with FX3 and Tilta VND?
Hi Grzegorz. I have another video diving deeper into the tunneling and vignetting issues on the FX3. ruclips.net/video/E-H2uGuXrVA/видео.html It is mostly when you add on a second filter tray, and go anything 24mm and wider.
@@RayValencia thanks a lot! that's very helpful.
