    Awesome video! It will help me a lot but (maybe) for a different use case: I live on a small apartament and my acoustic drum set is "silent" (mesh heads and silent cymbals) which is fine for my neighbors but not that fun to me. I will combine my Behringer Xair18, my set of mics, Reaper and this tips to trigger my drums and listen to a nice/triggered sound while not bothering my neighbors (not that much)

    I love this method! My template has several kicks and snares setup (pre-fader, otherwise, hits might trigger differently as you raise or lower the source track) so I can audition with the faders in seconds.
    Wonderful video, as always! You are such a blessing to all us Reaper users! Thank you!!!

    Yes, layering is a good formula to achieve fantastic results, not only like shown here but also when used with synths /vst instruments to create awesome drones, strings, SFX or anything one can imagine.

    With the new parallel effects processing in Reaper 7 and Paranormal FX Router script, you could use only 1 track with as many samplers you want in parallel positioned after the trigger. The beauty of Paranormal script is that you can mix the volume of each sampler to taste from within the router.

    Is there a way to turn this into MIDI notes on a new track?

    • @mabian69
      @mabian69 Год назад +2

      Just use MIDI sends to copy the MIDI notes from the track with the Audio to MIDI to other tracks - no need to duplicate the Audio to MIDI plugin instance in the other tracks

      even simpler, select the audio item on the track with the inserted plugin, RS5k isn't needed in this case, and run 'Item: Apply track/take FX to items (MIDI output)' which will add a MIDI take with the notes to the audio item, then explode the item to individual takes

    this is great video, but in my case i have a number of old songs that only have a mono drum track that contains snare kick hihat all in the mono track , how would you go about retriggering samples for such a track?

    • @TimOost
      @TimOost Год назад +5

      I would try three copies and do a band EQ and then a reagate which can also trigger de sampler with midi. Then add hits manually that are missed . I would be happy to give it a try for you if you're unsure how to do it . Please provide your email if your like my help.

    • @mcpribs
      @mcpribs Год назад

      Exactly what Tim said! If that doesn’t work for maybe a bridge, or something, you could split, and remove/mute just the hits you want (i.e. just the kicks on the kick channel).
      Great advice, @Tim Oost

    Can Reaper do Audio to Midi with a live interface? Like as I’m playing and recording, trigger midi with the mics and hear it right away? Or it can only be done with a recorded piece of audio?

    2:39 - so you can only use a SINGLE sample?
    There is NO velocity sensitive multi sample kind of thing, no?
    Do you have any suggestions for THAT, please?
    Thanks advance!

    • @kurtjanssen3887
      @kurtjanssen3887 Год назад +1

      I haven't tried it yet, but you can probably open multiple Audio to MIDI triggers and set the sample to be played with the open and close threshold, so that different samples are triggered by different parameters.🤔(.. just tried and managed to isolate the snare and kick from 1 track)

    • @REAPERMania
      @REAPERMania  Год назад +3

      ReaSamploMatic5k does do multisampling based on volumes. If you hit the "list" button you add multiple samples and they'll trigger based on velocity.

    • @BeesWaxMinder
      @BeesWaxMinder Год назад +1

      @@REAPERMania thanks so much for this explanation… I still can't quite visualise it… Is it possible you could do a video about it please?
      I can't think that there would be some sort of information "built in" to the audio that would indicate, say, which was a loud hit which was a quiet hit etc

    • @ARE_YOU_SICK_OF_YT_CENSORSHIP
      @ARE_YOU_SICK_OF_YT_CENSORSHIP Год назад +1

      @@BeesWaxMinder my guess is that you'd need a velocity tracker of sorts which will translate audio volume to velocity which will then trigger a multi-sample in RS5k
      found a suggestion by ashcat_lt in the thread t=197392 (post 2)
      he wrote:
      "Insert JS Midi Velocity Adjustment (the correct name is MIDI Velocity Control) and set up Parameter Modulation to make the Velocity Add slider follow the Audio Detector. This would go after ReaTune and before the VSTi. It usually works well enough once you tweak the various PM parameters just right."
      for drums ReaTune is redundant because the question he responded to concerned bass

    • @ARE_YOU_SICK_OF_YT_CENSORSHIP
      @ARE_YOU_SICK_OF_YT_CENSORSHIP Год назад +1

      i tried to set it up so it affects the velocity of a MIDI note going into the RS5k, for this you need 2 tracks with the same audio material,
      1. on one track you insert Audio To MIDI Drum Trigger, MIDI Velocity Control, RS5k (in this order)
      2. from another track you send audio to the first one on channels 3/4 or any other except 1/2
      3. in the first track enable parameter modulation from audio signal for 'Velocity add' slider of MIDI Velocity Control plugin, the audio source should be channels 3/4, that is audio coming in from the second track
      then it's a matter of playing with parameter modulation settings

    Can you do that without the "duplicate track" - step, in case you wanna do that before editing some notes, but "non-destructive" as well?
    What I'm looking for is some way to send the audio from one channel to a new one, always replicating the current state of the original channel, and then using it for triggering.
    Awesome video, as always!

    Just tried this on a track with some fast double kick parts and i cannot adjust the threshold right to get some accurate signals for my midi kick.
    I tried gating and the gated original signal sounds just fine.
    Is there anything Else i can do to tell my kick sampler the right hits?

      In my template, where I have several kicks and snares always setup like this, I place a channel strip before it all. This does two main things for me:
      1. If the level of the track is too low to trigger the samples, I just boost the output level of the strip to feed more gain into the trigger plugin.
      2. If the original track has a lot of bleed, I can gate very tightly; just enough to just allow the original to trigger the sample, and adjust from there in the trigger plugin.
